Note: Tried to make something cute. It really isn't. It's rushed and kinda shitty. But if you enjoy it. Good for you.
Together
It was a cold Saturday morning. Frigid wind blew by every few moments. Not many carts passed as there was no rush. No hurry. After all, ponies were awaiting the snow. But what we had right now was frost, sheets of it on every lawn.
The houses I passed were suburban and plain. They had no character or something crazy like that. Who am I to judge architecture? I'm a rocker not a math and design nut.
My friends were all ready and were waiting for me. I felt a bit bad, but forced an apathetic look. I did a bored wave to them. They were all chatty and excited. I kept myself quiet. But there was something that stood out.
A stallion I didn't recognize stood next to Paisley. He had a dark grey mane with a low saturation of blue coat. His eyes were an amber ocean. He gave off an odd vibe, and I felt the urge to stop observing him when he glanced at me. I hadn't exactly known attraction before, but judging by the heat in my cheeks and the pink washing his. I assume that is what it's all about.
"So we all ready to go?" Asked Paisley's dad. He always seemed so cheerful. I found it annoying.
The group responded positively and he guided us to the train station. Once we got there we had to wait for our train to arrive. The ticks of the clock machinery for the tower near us, and the soft steps and light chatter among the ponies at the station was calming.
Suddenly I felt like somepony was watching me. I glanced around for the source of the discomfort. It was that same stallion. He blushed and looked away when he was caught in my sight. It was kind of adorable. I don't know what he's seeing in me.
The train howled as it approached the platform after about 10 minutes. It slowed to a halt, and the doors were opened. A few ponies got off. But there were very few on board the train. My friends walked up to the doors, but I stuck behind. Letting the small wave go in first.
Once everyone else had gotten past the doors I grabbed my bag and went into the train. The group was packed together in a few rows, I sat behind the group. I put my bag next to me. When a voice spoke, "C-could I sit there?"
I looked up, it was Jagged Gem. The shy mare of our friend circle. I nodded, moving my bag and pulling out my headphones. I had finally tuned in and was jamming out only for one of my friends to poke me.
"What do you want?" I ask in an annoyed tone.
"Do you have a crush on somepony?" My friend, Mortar, questioned.
"What's it to you?" I growl.
"Chill, bro. I'm just curious."
"Or you want to go and tell everypony. Which you know full well is true." I looked out the window at the passing trees.
"Dude, why are you so angry?"
"Just my personality." I speak sarcastically.
He rolled his eyes and looked forward again. Once again, that feeling of being watched returned. The same guy was looking at me again. He had a small smile on his face. And it made me feel a bit calmer to look at. But I didn't look at him for too long. My eyes drifted out the window once more.
The mountains came into view after an hour. Their snow peaks and pine trees were very nice to see. Slowly it was snow and trees in my view. And eventually the snowstorm's flakes shrouded everything outside.
A hoof grabbed my shoulder, making me jump and look. It was the stallion. "Gem and I switched seats. Nice to meet you."
"Um...hi." I say in a bit of an awkward way. He was gazing into my eyes, and it was really creepy.
"You seem troubled. Something bothering you?" He asked, his voice a soothing sound. It was like the seaside waves and rain on a quiet day kind of calming.
"I'm not going to tell somepony I don't know what's up." I bite back a few swears in that sentence.
"Name's Mint Silence, I'm more like what you ponies call a hippie. I have been told I am very calming by quite a few ponies."
"Cool..." I look away from him.
"What about you?" He asks.
"I'm Fire Comet. I'm what ponies call a rocker."
"Nice. Very good music taste, I assume? Rock is an expressive genre."
"Yeah, kinda?" I say, uncertainly.
"So, know will you explain what bothers you?"
"When we get to the lodge. That way there's a quiet place to talk. Cause I don't want to talk about it around...them."
"I understand. We'll chat later." He says, oddly like he's trying to be agonizingly kind.
The ride wasn't long, but the weather outside the train was bad enough to cause nightmares in those who fear the force of nature. The window looked as though it was coated in snow. But that was probably because the trees have lower branches that cause reverberation throughout the tr- oh forget it, we stopped at the cabin's stop.
We all hurried up the path, hauling our bags. At the door, the leader of this little crew, Thorn Sting, unlocked the door and let us in. I immediately looked around for a room to put my stuff in. I found a decent room with two beds and set my bag on one of them. When I turned around I was face to face with Mint. He smiled awkwardly.
"Hope you don't mind sharing the room." He sets his bag on the opposite bed.
"Nah. Could've been worse." I sigh.
He shuts the door and asks, "So, you wanted to talk about your issues?"
"Um...well...yeah I guess." I try to sound calm with it.
"Alright. Talk as much as you'd like." He offers.
"Well...um...I guess you could say it's pretty complicated. Has a lot to do with my family and ponies like them. They made it kinda hard for me to make connections with ponies. My family pays me about as much attention as they pay to dust. Barely any. Most of the time it's nice, but if I'm having a bad day. They're not really there. I know it sounds like I'm whining."
"No it doesn't."
"But I mean, if you were born to a couple and they pretend you don't exist. It gets kind of hard to live with. And I've been holding back swears and volatile statements that may cause a fight for years. It's tough to do this kind of stuff."
"I see." Mint says softly. "You just want to be shown some attention."
"Really...yeah. I do." I sigh. Looking out at the snowstorm, through the plain window.
"Hm. Intriguing. LEDs go join the others. We have to eat with them or we look weird."
"I already do." I growl. "To them at least. They don't really notice me either."
"Mhm..." He looked thoughtfully for a second, then walked to join the others. I followed a moment after. Grumbling about having to put on a blank face.
The food was just another plain old dish, some salad. It wasn't exciting and surely needed more to it. But I forked it into my mouth and tried to be okay with the ponies I was talking to.
After eating, I walked over to look at the fire. I sat down, and a few minutes later I was laying there, watching the flames. Suddenly I felt something wrap around me. It was a wing and a blanket. I looked over, and there lay Mint.
"What are you doing?" I hiss, but not violently.
"You need attention, and I have love to give. Want to give this a try?"
"You're joking." I mutter.
"Not even a little bit." And while nopony was looking he gave me my first kiss. I sat there stunned.
"W-why?" I ask.
"Cause everypony, even you, need to have somepony."
"Well...okay."
"Let's enjoy this fire."
"Fine."
