When I look back
At all the things of old,
I think of all the lessons
Of which I was told,
And when i think of those days
I think of all of the good,
The laughter, the memories, the fun,
Even of the sisterhood,
But while those times were nice
And I enjoyed them all the while,
When they were taken away
With them, also went my smile,
The first one to leave me
Was my dear friend Fluttershy,
She went in her sleep
I never got the chance to say goodbye,
That day was a sunny one
Music lead by a procession of birds,
Everypony said their goodbyes
Even her animal herds,
But while they were outside
Crying and being sad,
I was all alone inside
Being extremely mad,
'How could you do this?' I thought
'I wouldn't do this to you!
I thought that we were friends
And this isn't what friends do,'
'Friends stay by each others side's
Through thick and thin,
They should always be together
Up until the very end,'
And that was when I realized
That I had it all wrong,
She had been there for me
Through out this friendship all along,
Her death was not her choice
This wasn't what she'd sought to do,
Then I also realized
The others would soon be gone too,
I rushed outside
To say my final goodbye,
And I joined all the others
While we buried Fluttershy,
While others mourned in silence
Others mourned aloud,
Nothing could lift the sadness around me
That took the form of a dark cloud,
I buried myself in my work
I tried to keep them alive,
I work as busy as a bee
Trying to save a dying hive,
Although my efforts were futile
I didn't stop me from trying,
And I made it so much worse
When Rarity was dying,
I was praying to the heavens
To have just one more day,
So I can find the right spell
And make her stay,
Spike seem to be doing the same
For he never got any rest,
He always spent his energy
Helping with my impossible quest,
And when she eventually left
My heart seemed to break,
All because I had tried
What even it would take,
Next to go was Rainbow Dash
She left in a puff of smoke,
Applejack overworked herself
And died of a stroke,
The last one left was Pinkie Pie
(Which really didn't surprise me),
But I knew she couldn't last forever
That was plain as can be,
I cast rejuvenation spells
So she could last a while,
And she continued bouncing around
Which slowly brought back my smile,
But like all good things
She didn't last forever,
As she embarked
On her next endeavor,
I was really depressed when
She died of a heart attack,
All that sugar she ate
Built up to much fat,
And when she drew her last breath
I was there,
I saw the life drain
From the happy mare,
I looked into those
Now-distant blue eyes,
As I then said
My final goodbyes,
And with Pinkie Pie now
On her death bed,
All of my friends
Were now dead,
In a special graveyard
Is where they now lay,
And for all of eternity
They now stay,
That's when I then knew
No matter how hard I tried,
My previous efforts were foolish
Mother Nature wouldn't be denied,
I took to solitude
I sought to be alone,
I focused on my work
Casting spells and studying ancient tomes,
I was in a depressed state
With my friends dead and gone,
I acted like a vampire
I had the curtains drawn,
Soon i moved back to Canterlot
And moved in with the Princess,
Upon my arrival
She saw how my life was a mess,
She welcomed me with open hooves
And took me under her wing,
Just when i started cheer up
I heard a bird sing,
It brought back the pain
And the loss of Fluttershy,
I just couldn't bear the thoughts
And i broke down to cry,
Celestia brought me close
And gave me a consoling hug,
Until I was to calm down
From the feeling of being snug,
"Why must you cry dear Twilight?" She asked.
"Why must you be sad?
Aren't you happy your here?
Shouldn't you be glad?"
"No!" I shouted with anger.
"Why should I be?
I've been left all alone
Without my friends with me.
If you think that's something happy
Then you have gone crazy,
Your judgement is off,
And your vision is hazy."
But while shouted insults
And screamed profanity,
Celestia just sat and listened
To my verbal insanity.
And after I finished
She just bared and smile,
And said " Well then,
That must have been pent up for a while,
Now I know you are sad
From your friends' passings,
But why must it come
With this self-harassing?"
"Well I don't want to point hooves
But I am for certain,
That you caused my friends and I
To be separated by this immortal curtain"
Then what she did to me
Finally clicked in my mind,
"So this was the plan
The entire time?
You were jealous of my friends
So it left you one thing to do,
Make me immortal, so one day
I would only have you!"
“Now listen, dear Twilight
We needed your friends all the same,
I am not the one that is
The cause of your blame
You see, nature has a balance
And just five alicorns pick up the slack,
But having TEN alicorns
Would put it all out of wack,”
“So you just let me suffer
While leaving my friends to die?
Why didn’t you ask me
Or get a quick run-by?”
“There is a purpose for everything that happens
All things have a reason,
Like why night must go to day
And why there is each season,
But the gods will offer you something
one tiny little wish,
To bring possibly bring your friends back
To live in a world other that this,”
And with a greedy heart
And without thought, I said “Yes!”
But I had given to no thought
if this was for the best,
I a flash i saw a world
That was tearing from the seams,
All because of my wish
The world was filled with screams,
What could cause this horrid world
What could’ve brought the ending hour,
It was because my now alicorn friends
The world couldn’t handle the power,
With an Earth wracking boom
And a bright blinding flash,
Equestria and all its ponies
Were now turned to ash,
With a sob in my throat
And a scream in my lungs,
I wanted to take it all back
I wanted to be done,
And just like a flick of a switch
I was back in Cantorlot Palace,
Back in the peaceful pony world
Where there was no harm or malice,
“So do you now see why
Your friends could not live,
The Universe couldn’t handle it
Just something it couldn’t give’”

So my dearest Princess Celestia
Who I now write,
This dream that I had
Brings my friends deaths less smite,
I now know something
The greatest friendship lesson of them all,
That everything has a purpose
Even losing friends to Death’s call,
But while everything is great
One thing is left not understood,
Is why you’ve not followed AstraPony
Her stories are very good.
