Chapter 2

The Sample Grows

The sample had been growing for many days and nights. At a slow process, the little embryo was forming. The sample was finally at the stage known as the NTB. This meant that under Equigenera law, they couldn't kill the sample or risk death.
Deoxy was sitting at his desk filing paperwork. When Ribose pressed the button to ask to be let in. Deoxy opened the door and Ribose walked up to his desk. " Explain yourself." Deoxy said. He always had impatience with those who came into his room without request.

"Sir I don't know how…but the sample. It...it has changed." Ribose stated out of breath and wheezing. The vagueness made Deoxy perplexed.

"Elaborate Doctor." Deoxy said. The fact Ribose was out of breath showed just how important this truly was. Ribose took a breath and calmed himself. After straightening his clothes and glasses, he spoke.

"Sir. The sample has increased its growth rate past the expected." Ribose said pulling a clipboard out to look at his notes.

"How fast?" Deoxy asked with slight joy in his voice. His creation was surpassing expectations already.

"According to our calculations…the sample is going to be fully grown 3.5 months." Ribose said handing over the notes to Deoxy. Deoxy scanned the papers, pulled off his glasses and set them down. His eyes were very serious.

"You're telling me Doctor Ribose…that the sample will be done 3.5 months. Faster than the typical eleven month incubation for normal Equines?" Deoxy Asked with a firm voice. A voice that he only used when he expected an absolute answer. Ribose nodded slowly to Deoxy. This made Deoxy beam and nearly leap out of his chair like an eager little colt on Hearths Warming.

"Fantastic! Take me there!" He said opening the door for the two to make their way to the subject. The two walked to a set of large doors and they swiped an access card. The doors parted and Deoxy stepped in to see a large fetus where the embryo was a month ago. Deoxy looked intently at the subject. He surveyed it for any problems and it was in perfect health.

"Amazing…it is already near day 225 in its growth cycle." Deoxy said looking at the instruments monitoring the subject.

"I tested some of the subject to check why this occurred. Apparently the sample from The Doctor is increasing its forming process. Along with the magic and other samples." Ribose said double checking everything.

"Fantastic! Now I can name it." Deoxy stated with joy. Since the specimen started growing, any progress on it made the old stallion more joyful than anything else in existence.

"What shall we call it sir?" Ribose asked looking at the specimen. Deoxy looked intently at the specimen. His creation was both his child and a weapon. A creation from his own blood. Finally, he stepped back.

"Sanguine. Sanguine Blade shall be his name. For his is a creation of blood for combat." Deoxy stated bluntly. Though in his heart, Sanguine was to be much more in time.

"Excellent choice sir." Ribose said when the door opened. In walked another scientist with a symbol of an animal cell on his coat. This was researcher Nucleus, the third most important person in the facility behind Ribose and the professor himself.
Nucleus walked in and snapped into a polite bow when he saw Professor Deoxy in the room.

"P-Professor Deoxy! What brings you here?" He said shakily. Nucleus was never comfortable when Deoxy made surprise inspections like this. Deoxy looked at nucleus and simply pointed at the container with a hoof. This snapped Nucleus back into a more professional mood. He adjusted a pair of observation goggles on his head before speaking.

"*ahem*Why yes of course. I had forgotten Ribose went to tell you. I was double checking the analysis by Ribose and the lab confirmed his theory." Nucleus said. Deoxy put a hoof to the glass.

"Welcome to life. Sanguine Blade…" He whispered to the tank and its contents He stepped out and back to his office happy that his creation seemed to be delivering all he hoped it would. He filed his work and patched into his television. He split the screen to four cameras and all were looking at Equestria. One the cameras were a rainbow Pegasus, a purple alicorn with a young filly and an orange earth pony with a yellow mare. The voices could be heard through the cameras.

"Apple Bloom! Give me a hand with fixin' the barn!" Applejack called out. Apple Bloom was already a grown mare herself at the time.

"Sure sis!" She responded. She wore carpenter clothes and had let her mane stay long but ditched her bow to look more adult. The two were hammering away at a wall that was damaged. Once it was halfway patched, Apple bloom looked at her sister from the corner of her eyes. "So is the wound healing?" She asked hesitantly.

Apple Jack sighed "Yes it is much better but I still cannot remember how it happened." she said while hammering.

"Well I am glad it's okay." AB replied with hints of relief. Deoxy turned his head to the other screen. With an alicorn and a filly.

"Sweetie be careful!" The alicorn Twilight said watching the filly balancing on books to reach a shelf.

"I am mom!" The filly responded. The filly levitated the books near her onto the shelf. She loved her mother but sometimes Twilight's filly had to pick up for her.

"I am sorry for sounding like a nag darling, but I just want to keep you safe." She said. The filly just giggled

" I know mom. It is okay." She said smiling and jumped from her book stack down to her mother. The filly hugged her mother as Twilight winced in pain slightly. That made the child immediately back away from the hug. "Mommy? Is your wound hurting again?!" She asked nervously.

"Just a little bit. I need some rest can you finish up here?" Twilight asked. The filly just nodded her head quickly.

"Yes mommy!" she replied going back to the shelves. The mare walked away as the filly levitated books to the shelf. Deoxy turned to the next screen with the rainbow Pegasus.

"Man my body still hurts from that sting I got. I cannot believe that I still need to rest until then." Rainbow pouted from her bed. An orange Pegasus flew in with purple mane and tale.

"Rainbow Dash! Are you okay?" Scootaloo asked. Rainbow sighed loudly.

"I am still hurting and I can't fly for another day." Rainbow replied miffed. Scootaloo rolled her eyes and quietly giggled.

"Bummer. Well can I get you anything?" She asked.

"Some ice and a drink." Rainbow replied rolling over.

"Got it! I'll be back soon!" Scootaloo said. Then the pony flew off.

"Phew. Still no one knows about us. Those scouts were good at their assignment. I will let them stick around. Until I find them useless…" Deoxy said. " I best return to my work." he said.He turned off the screen and returned to his calculations and waited for the next report from his colleagues…
