//-------------------------------------------------------// Derpy Hooves' Ballad -by Lumox6- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 1: Welcome To Ponyville //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 1: Welcome To Ponyville It was quite cool on this particular morning, despite it being the middle of summer. Derpy Hooves, a mare with a peculiar set of gold eyes, and a peculiar cutie mark of bubbles, was flying through the air over her soon to be home of Ponyville. Carrying a box packed with items from her old home. In the box contained a pillow, a bag of bits, and a letter of recommendation. Nobody knew how hard she had to work in order to get that letter. Nobody would ever know. She approached the Town hall where Mayor Mare presided. She flew down low to the ground, underestimating her speed however, she smashed into an apple cart being pulled by a blue stallion. CRASH Derpy looked up to see an angry stallion glaring at her. He stepped towards her. "What the hell are you doing? Do you know how much damage you've done!?" Derpy said nothing, she rubbed her head, a tear flowing down her face. The blue stallion stomped the ground. "WELL? DO YOU?" Derpy still said nothing, she was still trying to figure out how she had miscalculated her speed, she just didn't know what went wrong. "YOU BETTER BE ABLE TO PAY FOR THIS YOU RETARD!" He was yelling at her when an Orange mare wearing a stetson trotted over and interjected. "Rusty, What seems to be the problem over here?" Said the orange mare to the blue stallion. "She just destroyed a weeks worth of apples!" He pointed his hoof at Derpy, who was trying to wipe crushed apples out of her mane. "Did Ah just hear you say the 'R' word?" said the orange mare with a raised eyebrow. "Yeah so? She is a retard, look at her eyes." The blue stallion looked at Derpy, who froze. The orange pony put a hoof to her face. "Ah thought Ah told you that we don't talk that way about other ponies, that isn't the kind of reputation Sweet Apple Acres represents." She looked up at him. "Rusty Pioneer, Ah'm afraid Ah'm gonna have to fire you." Anger shot through the blue stallions face. "Really, your just gonna fire me because of what cross eyes over there did? Fine, fuck you!" He looked at Derpy, who was now getting up, and shot her an angry look before turning around, and stomping his hooves as he trotted away. While the orange mare was looking at the blue stallion, Derpy decided she had had enough and quietly grabbed her belongings before sneaking off and over to the town hall. The orange mare sighed before turning around to face Derpy"Ah'm sorry you had to see tha-" Derpy was gone and nowhere to be seen. The orange mare sighed before cleaning up all the crushed apples that lay on the ground. _____________________________ "Well then Miss...Hooves," said Mayor Mare who happened to have a scroll tied with blue ribbon as a cutie mark. She handed Derpy the keys to her new apartment. "Here is your new home, welcome to Ponyville." Mayor Mare gave Derpy a big grin before leaving. Derpy walked into her new home to see it was not very spacious. The ceiling had a creaky single fan accompanied by a couple of cracks. The walls were gray and peeling off. The furniture was old and falling apart. The carpet was stained and looked as if it used to be white. She walked over to the bedroom, and grabbed for a door knob to close the bedroom door but noticed that the door was missing. In fact, it looked like it had been ripped off of it's hinges. The bed was bare, but thankfully, fairly new. Derpy laid her belongings on the bed before walking over to the window. She opened it to just to stare at a brick wall that was apart of the building next to hers. Derpy tried not to show her disappointment, but after what had happened earlier, she collapsed onto the bed. Burying her face into it and sobbing. What happened? Why was she like this? She looked up and grabbing the pillow out of the box, laid her head on it and cried herself to sleep. _____________________________ 1 year before in Cloudsdale. Celestia's sun had gone down to reveal Luna's full moon. It was a cold night, one that was about to get a lot colder. Derpy had been at the Hospital for eight hours, eight hours of pain and hope. Hope that she would finally get to meet her daughter. The doctors warned her months before that the baby might not survive, that she would either miscarry or have a still birth. Derpy prayed to Celestia that that would not happen, that she would get to raise her daughter and see her grow up. But unfortunately, Celestia's light was not upon Derpy that night. Dinky Doo was her name, she was a beautiful little gray filly with a blonde mane. The Doctor handed her to Derpy who was now crying tears of joy. Derpy gently held dinky in her fore hoofs. Dinky opened her eyes, looking at her mothers. "I love you, my sweet little baby." said Derpy, a tear falling down her face. Dinky smiled and then closed her eyes, never to reopen. Derpy held her closer to her, and began sobbing. Nopony could feel what she was feeling. She felt that it was her fault, her fault that her body didn't allow her to have a living child. The doctors took Dinky away from Derpy, never to be seen again. After the birth, Derpy stayed in her home for weeks, only coming out to buy food, not that she ate it, the circumstances didn't allow her to eat. The only pony who came to visit Derpy was Rainbow Dash, Derpy's only true friend. She knew that when she needed help, she could always count on Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash slowly approached the house and knocked on Derpy's front door. knock knock... "Derpy, are you there?" No answer. Rainbow Dash could only hear muffled sobbing through the door and decided to knock again. knock knock "Derpy, It's me, Rainbow Dash. Listen I just wanted to talk to y-" Rainbow began, before being cutoff. "Go away." Derpy said in muffled, somber tone. "I don't want to talk right now." Rainbow Dash wouldn't have it. "Derpy, please." Rainbow dash laid her head on the wall beside the door. "Open the door." No answer. "I know it's hard, but you can't stay in here forever, you need your friends." Rainbow Dash heard a rustling inside the home, before the door slowly opened. Derpy stood there, her eyes red and puffy, mane in disarray, her gray coat was shaggy and unkempt. Rainbow Dash didn't hesitate. She hugged the gray mare, causing Derpy to gasp. Derpy returned the hug and began sobbing into Rainbow Dash's shoulder. "I know Derpy, I'm sorry all of this happened." Rainbow Dash pulled away from Derpy and looked her in the eyes. "Where is he?" "I haven't seen him since I told him about the pregnancy." Derpy told Rainbow Dash this, raw anger surged into Rainbow Dash's eyes. "I don't get it Dash," Derpy looked up at Rainbow Dash. "He told me he loved me and would always be there for me." Derpy's eyes began watering again as she placed her face in Rainbow Dash's shoulder. "I'm so sorry Derpy..." Author's Note Here is my second story, I hope you will enjoy. //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 2: Howdy //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 2: Howdy It had been two months since Derpy had moved to Ponyville, and she hadn't landed a single job. All the places she applied at either told her that she didn't have enough experience on her resume or that they didn't want a mare who looked like she had a screw loose. She had no way to earn money, and would soon lose her apartment. She had to look somewhere, and decided that Sweet Apple Acres was the perfect place to do so. She approached the front gate to Sweet Apple Acres. The farm house was a beautiful sight. It almost took Derpy's breath away. She headed to the front door of the barn and knocked. knock knock...nothing. Derpy waited there, hoping that someone would see her out there. The door opened, revealing a big red stallion with a blonde mane, along with a green apple cutie mark. Derpy looked into his green eyes and blushed, unable to speak. "Uhh..." Said the red stallion, awkwardly looking around him. Derpy snapped out of her stupor and began nervously speaking. "I'm sorry but, do you have any work available?" she said, rubbing the back of her mane with her hoof. He looked down at her. "Eeemaybe." He walked back inside, closing the door. He was gone for about five minutes when Derpy felt as though she was being ignored. She turned around with her head down and began to leave when she heard the door creak open. Out stepped an orange mare wearing a stetson followed by the same red stallion from before. "So Ah heard you are looking for a job, correct?" Derpy lifted her head, turning around to face the orange mare. "Yes, I am." The orange mare saw her face and paused. "Wait a second," Oh no, Derpy was going to be made fun of again for her eyes. "Ah remember you." She raised a hoof to her face. Derpy braced for impact. "Your'e the mare who ruined a weeks worth of apples and bailed, aren't you?" Derpy lowered her head and was about to cry. "Well then," she looked at the red stallion. "Big Mac, can you get her ready?" Derpy raised her head to see the orange pony point to the red stallion known as Big Mac and then point to her. "She has a lot of work to do if she plans on making up for the week we spent bucking those trees. besides, we just had a spot open up." Derpy smiled, she had finally done it, she had gotten a job. The orange pony then walked over to her, raising a hoof. "Howdy, the names Applejack." Derpy grabbed Applejack's hoof shaking it a lot more than needed. "I'm Derpy, I'm so happy you gave me this job, thank you." Derpy put her hoof back to the dirt while Applejack regained her composure. "Well Howdy Derpy, Ah suppose Ah should show you around..." ______________________________________ Later that night, Derpy had trotted into her a apartment and jumped onto the bed. She was so happy that she finally got a job. She remembered that Applejack told her that work starts promptly at 5:00 AM and that she won't begin getting paid until she makes up for the smashed apples from before. Derpy started rolling around on the bed. She would soon be able to buy bedsheets and maybe a new can of paint for the wall. She laid there, fantasizing about what she was going to do with her apartment when she heard a knock at the door. knock knock. Derpy got up and trotted over to the door and looked through the peep hole. The door flew open, almost hitting the cyan pegasus outside. "Dash, You made it!" Derpy jumped and nearly tackled Rainbow Dash to the floor in a hug. "I'm so glad your'e finally here" Derpy then let go, allowing Rainbow Dash to get up. "I didn't know you missed me that much." Said Rainbow Dash, giving Derpy an awkward smile, before regaining her composure. "How have you been Derpy?" Derpy gave a happy sigh. "I just got a job today." "Really? Where?" Rainbow Dash was shaking with anticipation. "I got a job at this beautiful farm known a Sweet Apple Acres." Derpy smiled "I know that place." A smile grew on Rainbow Dash's face. "My marefriend, Applejack, lives there. How did you get a job there?" Derpy gave a nervous smile, while rubbing the back of her mane. "I may have...uh... destroyed a weeks worth of apples and accidentally got the last worker fired." Rainbow Dash lifted an eyebrow. "How did you get him fired?" Derpy lowered her head. "He called me a... retard." A small tear ran down her face as she said that word, the word that had been uttered to her by almost everyone she has ever met. From the moment she was born. People had used that word to describe her. They always judged her because of her eyes, never her personality. It wasn't her fault she was like this. "So, Applejack came over and fired him because of it. I'm sorry Dash." Rainbow Dash walked Derpy inside and sat down on the couch at her side, embracing her. "You are not what those ponies say you are." Rainbow Dash then pulled Derpy's chin up. "Never let other ponies define who you are because of your appearance. If they can't accept that you are different, then they aren't even worth the effort." "Derpy looked up a Rainbow Dash, a single tear streaming down her face. "Thank you Dash." "Hey, I brought some more boxes from your place." Rainbow dash motioned over to the door. Derpy wiped her nose "Thanks, Dash." Derpy followed Rainbow Dash out and began bringing in boxes. "No problem, Derpy." //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 3: The Crush //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 3: The Crush It had been 2 months since Derpy had started working at Sweet Apple Acres. She knew her way around the farm quite well. She would arrive at 4:30AM every morning. She would arrive 30 minutes early so that she could try and prove to Applejack that she wasn't just some worthless pony who couldn't see straight. She knew everypony on the farm by name. She had grown quite fond of Applejacks older brother, Big Macintosh, or Big Mac as she called him. Derpy had developed a crush on him the first moment she laid her gaze on him. She dreamed about him, some dreams more vivid then others. She loved the way he listened to her when she spoke, the way his mane blew in the breeze, the way he looked after a hard days work. But the thing she loved most about him, was that he was a nice and understanding stallion. He was so accepting of people and was even accepting of his sister dating another mare. He told Derpy that it was not his place to judge others for how they lived, and it was this that made her truly fall in love with him. Derpy arrived at the farm and saw that Big Mac was getting his wagon ready for another day of applebucking. "Hey Big Mac." Yawned Derpy, walking through the big doors to the barn. "Hey Derpy," Big Mac looked over to her, seeing her yawn. "Ah see your here early again." He looked back down at his wagon. He was trying to fix the front right wheel for one of the wheel spokes had come off and the wheel had warped. He was having trouble getting the wheel off. "Well, the early pegasus gets the worm." Said derpy who was now getting her apple barrels ready. Big Mac chuckled at her bad joke. He grunted as he tried to get the wheel off, but couldn't. He turned to Derpy who was about to head out. "Hey...uh...Derpy." "Yes?" Derpy looked behind at Big Mac and blushed. "Can you help me with this wheel?" Big Mac grunted as he strained to pull the wheel off. "Sure..." Derpy trotted over to where Big Mac was. He got down and lifted one side of the wagon while Derpy pulled the wheel off. She then set it down and grabbed the spare wheel, putting it on. With a grunt, Big Mac placed the cart down. "Thanks Derpy, I couldn't have done it without you." Big Mac smiled at her. "U-uh...s-sure, no problem." Derpy was blushing. She couldn't believe how nice Big Mac was to her. She really did feel like he was the one. Derpy cheerfully trotted out of the barn with her wagon in tow, leaving Big Mac to see her handiwork. He looked at the wheel and saw that she had put it on backwards. He chuckled. "Oh, Derpy." _______________________________________ Derpy had been working hard that day and decide to get some lunch. She went into the Applefamily kitchen and grabbed her lunch out of the fridge. She opened it, revealing a hay burger, along with some hay fries and a muffin. She was about to take a bite when she heard yelling outside. She grabbed her muffin and went outside to investigate. Standing there was the blue stallion who had been fired just 2 months before. He looked like he had seen some rough times. His coat was all scraggly and he looked like he hadn't shaved in a week. He looked like he was drunk. He was yelling at Applejack about his old job. "What do you mean you got somepony else?!" "Ah mean that we already have someone else who has taken your spot." Applejack said scowling at Rusty Pioneer. "Who did you give the job to?!" He asked raising his voice into a whine. "Ah'm not telling you that, now get off ma property." She pointed her hoof to the gate. He looked at her than glanced over to the barn to see a gray mare eating a muffin. Derpy cowered back, hoping he wouldn't recognize her. But he did any way. "I see, you let the retard take MY job?!" He yelled as he started stomping over towards Derpy. Applejack tried blocking Rusty but was only pushed down by his size. Derpy saw this and grabbed her muffin and began to leave when she felt something hard hit her in the face. She flew backwards and hit the door, slowly sliding down. She immediately wrapped her hooves around her face to defend herself. She was mostly in shock than fear. She had been hit her and made fun of before, but no one had ever had the nerve to strike her in the face. She realized this when another hoof came down across her stomach, the air was knocked out of her. She coughed into her hoof, a little bit of blood. She kept thinking about what happened when she heard him speak. "How DARE YOU TAKE MY JOB!" He spit on her. "I knew there was something about you." He started raising his hoof to strike the final blow. "Now I know that you are just FUCKING CROSS EYED RETARD!!" CRACK Derpy heard a hoof being brought down but didn't feel anything. She uncovered her face to see Rusty on the ground. His face bloody. His jaw had come unhinged, and flopped over. His eyes lay there, lifeless. She looked up to see Big Mac, standing there with his flank towards where Rusty dropped. "Are you okay, Derpy?" his green eyes showing sorrow, he lifted a hoof to Derpy. She took it and thrust herself into Big Macs chest. She began sobbing. He wrapped his forehoofs around her. "It's alright Derpy. " He looked to Applejack who was laying on the ground, staring in disbelief at Rusty, then at Big Mac. "Applejack, check him." Applejack got up and went over to Rusty, she placed a hoof on his neck. "H-he's dead." She had a horrified look on her face. "Go find Mayor Mare and tell her exactly what happened." He was still holding onto Derpy, who was still sobbing into his chest. "Why'd you have to kill him?" Applejack staring at her brother. "He was hurting Derpy, Ah had to do something, what did you expect me to do?" He was scolded Applejack. "Let him kill her?" Derpy looked up at Big Mac, she looked into those big green eyes. She knew what she had to do. She would tell him how she felt about him. "Now go!" "Alrighty then Big Mac." Applejack always knew to trust her brothers opinion. He had always been her voice of reason. ________________________________ Derpy's face hurt, she held a cold pack wrapped in a towel to her head. The cold pack helped the physical wounds, but no the mental ones. She had been yelled at and beaten, all because of her appearance. Another tear streamed down her face. She watched as the Medics wrapped up Rusty's body and carried him off. She watched from a distance as Big Mac explained to Mayor Mare what exactly had happened. That Rusty had been drunk, that he had pushed his sister down, and that he had attacked one of their workers. Mayor Mare nodded and shook her head. Big Mac pointed over to Derpy. Mayor Mare and him began walking over to her. "Miss Derpy, are you alright?" Mayor Mare asked in a concerned tone. Derpy just nodded, not being able to speak. Mayor Mare then motioned over to Big Mac who was standing just a few feet away. "Did Big Mac really come in and save you?" Derpy nodded again. "Well then." Mayor Mare flipped a chocolate covered Peppermint stick into her mouth, and looked at Big Mac who was waiting to hear what his sentencing was. "It seems that since it was all self defense, and that you were protecting Derpy here, I won't be charging you with anything." Big Mac breathed a sigh of relief, His breath crystallizing in the cold night air. "Thank you Mayor Mare for the understanding." Big Mac then turned to Derpy who was staring at the ground. "Derpy are you sure your'e alright?" Derpy didn't say anything. She just kept staring at the ground. Big Mac lifted Derpy's gaze into his. "Derpy, Ah'm sorry you had to see this." Derpy looked into his green eyes, and she felt the moment was right. She leaned into him and kissed him. She held it there for a few seconds, before drawing back. Big Mac was surprised, He stepped back raising a hoof to his face. Derpy smiled at him, she then frowned when she realized what she had just done. She got up and began galloping towards the gate. "I'm sorry!" Derpy ran out of the gate and into the night. Big Mac looked at her as she ran off. He looked to the ground. He had no Idea what just happened or why it happened. He went to go find Applejack who was in her bedroom looking out the window at the very spot where Rusty lay just minutes before. "Applejack." Big Mac began before he was cut off by Rainbow Dash who had just entered the room." Rainbow Dash ran over and embraced Applejack. "Applejack, I heard what happened." She looked at Big Mac. "Where is Derpy?" Big Mac looked down at the ground. "She ran ran out of the gate and into the apple grove" "And you just let her?" Rainbow Dash glared at Big Mac, who picked his head up. "Why would you let her just run off like that? After what she just did to you." Big Mac looked up at Rainbow Dash and glared. Rainbow Dash had seen the entire scene play out, from the kiss to Derpy running out of the property. "That isn't any of your business." "Derpy is my business," Rainbow Dash glared at Big Mac. "Iv'e been the one who has watched over her through her entire life, I'm the one who has been there for her. I was there for her when she lost everything! I was even there for her when she lost her baby..."Rainbow Dash stopped her self, she had said too much. Big Mac turned his head down. "So yeah, it is my business." Rainbow Dash then put her head to Applejack's. "Go find her." Without another word, Big Mac walked out of the room and ran outside to find Derpy. __________________________________ Derpy loved this area of the farm. She saw this area on her first day and decide to lay here for her break. It was beautiful, the way the moonlight ran over the apple trees. She curled up under one of the trees thinking to herself. She wondered how it had come to this, why was she like this? She thought back to the first time she was picked on. She was just a little filly back then. She had just gotten home when she noticed that a group of young pegasus stallions had followed her home. They began chasing her, and when they caught her, they beat her up. All this infront of her home. They called her names, like retard and cross eyes. She walked into her home, badly bruised from her beating and found her father, on the couch passed out drunk, and her mother was laying in her bed. Her mother had been sick with cancer, but they couldn't afford the treatments to get her cured. Her memory skipped ahead a few months to her mother's death bed. Her mother was coughing up blood while her father was out of the house probably getting drunk. Derpy was there when her mother uttered her final words. "I...l-love...you...Derpy." Derpy's mother had passed away at night, during a beautiful moon like this. Derpy cried at her mothers side for hours. Derpy began crying. "Why me." Derpy then cried herself to sleep under the apple tree. _________________________________ "Derpy!? Derpy! Where are you?" Derpy awoke to the sound of her name being called. She didn't want to be found. She just wanted to stay there under that tree. She pressed herself against the tree, listening. The voice got closer, and it sounded like the voice of a stallion. "Derpy!?" She looked past the tree and saw Big Mac. He had a look of worry on his face. He was frantically looking around for her. He had been up all night searching the many acres they owned, trying to find her. Big Mac saw her poke her head out, and ran over. Derpy had never been good at Hide and Seek, Rainbow Dash always found her, no matter where she was. "Derpy, why did you run off." The bags under his eyes were more prevalent now that he was closer to her. He was breathing heavy. "I thought that if I kissed you, you would maybe smile, o-or kiss me back. I didn't think you would just stare at me." Derpy wiped her eyes. "I love you." Big Mac was surprised. "Why do you like me?" He stared at her with surprised curiosity. "Since the first time I saw you, I had fallen for you." She began. "You were the first stallion who had ever been truly nice to me. The first stallion to not point out my problems. I felt like you and I had a connection." She looked at the ground. "I guess I was wrong." "Derpy, I was nice to you because I felt bad for you." Derpy looked up. "I felt sorry because I thought you couldn't find a job because of your... disability." The words stung. "I never fell in love with you..." The rest of his words fell deaf on her ears. She just stared at him, a tear falling from her face. She had just realized that the only reason she had a job, the reason that Rainbow Dash was her friend, that she had anything was because they took pity on her. She looked back on her time at the farm. what she thought she had done right, was in fact wrong and the only reason they kept her was out of pity. She came to the realization that she was, in fact, worthless. "Derpy, I'm sorry." Big Mac finished, he looked at her and saw no emotion on her face. She simply turned around and took off into the air. //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 5: I'm Sorry Derpy (Rainbow Dash) //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 5: I'm Sorry Derpy (Rainbow Dash) It was a cloudy day in Ponyville. A crowd of ponies were at the funeral of Rusty Pioneer, the stallion who, just two days earlier, had attacked her friend.Rainbow Dash resented him, he had been nothing but mean to her friend. This filled Rainbow Dash with rage as she flew to Derpy's apartment, hoping to talk some sense into her. Rainbow flew over building after building before finally reaching Derpy's apartment. "I hope she is okay." Rainbow Dash gracefully landed on the pavement. She slowly walked over to the door and knocked. knock knock... no answer. "Derpy? I know you are in there." Rainbow Dash knocked again. knock knock...still no answer. "Derpy... please open the door. I want to talk to you." Still no answer. Rainbow Dash was getting nervous. Derpy always opened the door on the second knock. Rainbow Dash walked between the Derpy's apartment and the other. She flew to the window and peered inside. The bedroom was dark, she could see a shadow on the wall coming from the living room. Rainbow Dash eyed the shadow a little closer, something was off. She saw the object twist. She screamed in horror at the shadow. She flew down to the door and promptly kicked it down. She flew up the stairs. Thoughts flew through her head. 'Please be ok, please be ok.' She hit the door, almost knocking it off the hinges. She froze and looked at the horror in front of her. There was Derpy, her eyes were open, glazed over. Her mouth was open, revealing her tongue. Her face was blue. "No. no no nonononono, Derpy!" Rainbow Dash screamed. She flew over to Derpy. Tapping her face. "Derpy, please wake up." Tears were streaming down Rainbow Dash's face. She frantically looked for something to cut the rope with. She looked on the counter and saw the knife. Without thinking, she flew over and grabbed the knife and immediately cut Derpy's body down. Derpy fell with a loud thud. Rainbow Dash saw the indentations from where the rope had tightened around her neck. "Derpy, Derpy, I'm here, please wake up!" Rainbow Dash felt Derpy for a pulse. There was none. Rainbow Dash came to a grim realization, and collapsed, puking on the floor. She looked up to the counter to see the note, folded neatly with the words 'To Whom It May Concern' She got up and grabbed the letter, carefully opening it and silently reading. Tears were streaming down her face as she read the letter. When she finished, she dropped the tear stained letter and fell to the floor. She stared at Derpy's body. Rainbow Dash crawled over and hugged her body. "I'm so sorry Derpy." She cradled Derpy's head in her forehooves. Rainbow Dash screamed. "DERPY!" She sobbed, placing her head into the dead mare's chest. "I'm sorry Derpy." //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 6: Goodbye Derpy Hooves. (End) //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 6: Goodbye Derpy Hooves. (End) It was a rainy morning as Rainbow Dash stood there at Derpy's grave. She was the only one to show up to the funeral. Applejack was horrified by the news, crying into her stetson, she couldn't come because Apple bucking season was starting. Granny Smith and Applebloom, didn't know what had happened, they didn't need to know what happened. Big Mac felt the worst. It was his words that had led her to her final decision. Rainbow Dash thought back to the night before. ____________________________________ Rainbow Dash had just gotten back to the farm. She had tears running down her face. "Sugarcube, What happened?" asked Applejack who ran outside to her marefriend. "It's Derpy, Sh-she's dead." Rainbow Dash cried, holding onto her marefriend. Applejack took off her Stetson. "No, tha- that can't be." A tear came to Applejack's eye. "How did she die?" "She hanged herself." Rainbow Dash sobbed, pulling out the letter. "She wrote this." Applejack took the letter and silently read it. Applejack didn't finish the letter, she dropped it and cried into her stetson. Big Mac saw this and ran outside to his sister and Rainbow Dash. "What happened, sis?" Rainbow Dash looked up at him. "Did we find Derpy?" Rainbow Dash reached up and smacked Big Mac with her hoof. "How dare you try and act like you care!" She growled. Big Mac felt his face where Rainbow Dash struck him. Fury shot through him. "What the HELL was that for!" Applejack looked up. This was the first time she had ever heard him swear. Big Mac looked down at his sister. "Go inside now." "But-" "NOW" Big Mac screamed, he was never known to lose his temper. Applejack hurried inside and shut the door. Big Mac now faced a furious Rainbow Dash. "What the HELL is your problem!" "You, you are the problem." Rainbow Dash spat, picking up the letter. "Derpy loved you and you just cast her aside." "Celestia Dammit, I don't like her. I thought I cleared everything up." He screamed at her. "Well, does this clear it up for you?" She lifted the letter to his face. His face changed to curiosity as he reluctantly took the letter. Reading the letter, A tear came to his eye. "You set her off." He finished the letter and looked at Rainbow Dash. "You killed her." He stared at her, a tear streaming down his face. "I'm sorry." He whispered. Rainbow Dash left him looking on as she walked past him to the house. "Well, a lot of good your sorry will do now..." Rainbow Dash walked into the house and slammed the door behind her. Big Mac stared off into the distance for a while before walking off into Ponyville. He came back later in the night, drunk. He stumbled through the house and went to bed, not waking up until after the funeral occurred. ______________________________________ Rainbow Dash stood, Sobbing silently beside the mare who was one of her best friends. It hurt Rainbow Dash, thinking that in her final moments, Derpy had felt unloved. That she was unwanted and a failure. That she was just known as the mare with the googly eyes, the mare who couldn't do anything right. Ponies had always felt that something was wrong with Derpy, when really it was a problem with them. They were the problem. Rainbow Dash was there as they lowered the coffin. She threw in a beautiful red rose. "Goodbye, Derpy Hooves" Author's Note I've never written a sadfic before. Thanks for staying along for the ride. I hope you enjoyed. //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 4: I'm Sorry (Derpy) //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 4: I'm Sorry (Derpy) It was a dark cloudy morning. Derpy arrived at her house with a box of supplies. She set the box down on the kitchen counter. A tear fell down her face as she pulled a piece of paper out of one of the kitchen drawers and began writing. To Whom it May Concern- I'm sorry. I'm sorry I was born this way. I wish I could have just been normal for once. I know now that nothing in my life was real. My first love, My friendship with Rainbow Dash, even my job. I chuckle at the thought that maybe it was real. I always thought that maybe I would be loved someday, but I guess we don't always get what we want. I'm sorry for all the grief I've caused you. I like to look back and think of all the laugh's I had with Rainbow Dash, how she helped me with all my problems. She was my best friend, or I thought she was. Tears began falling on the paper, smudging some of the ink. That's why I have decided to write this letter. I have thought long and hard about my decision. I tried talking my self out of it, but I just can't deal with the pain anymore. I don't want to take away from anymore of your lives, and I feel that this is the only way out. I'm sure that when you find me, you will probably cry. Please don't, I know those tears are fake. I guess Celestia was right to take my child away from me. But, I will soon be reunited with her, my sweet little Dinky Doo. I'm Sorry. Derpy Hooves Derpy neatly folded the tear stained paper, setting it down on the counter. She grabbed the box and opened it, revealing a knife and a piece of rope. She pulled the items out of the box and set them on the couch. She looked up at the ceiling fan. Despite it being old, It still looked sturdy. She grabbed the rope and wrapped it around the fan, and gave a tug before doing a test fall to make sure it would hold her weight. It did. She pulled the rope off and then tied it around the fan. She grabbed the other end of the rope and tied a noose. She pulled it a few times to make sure it would work. It tightened around her hoof. She loosened it, enough to fit her head through. She walked over and grabbed one of the chairs and dragged it over. The chair was an old wooden chair. This allowed her to give her wings some rest. She looked at the knife. She had bought it in case she wanted to end her life another way. She couldn't stand the sight of blood and decided to just leave it there. She climbed on top of the chair. Balancing on her hind hooves, She used her forehooves to put the noose around her neck. She looked down at the floor, before sending a silent prayer to Celestia. She pulled her head up before uttering. "I'm sorry." A final tear streamed down her face as she kicked out the chair under her.
