Oh no they didn't!
Rarity
Load Full StoryIt was a warm, sunny day in Ponyville and Twilight, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, and Fluttershy were enjoying the perfect weather outside on several picnic tables. They had pretty much talked about everything, and thought they should leave, but then Rainbow Dash brought up something rather interesting. "Hey guys, you'll never guess what I found the other day."
"What?" Twilight asked.
"I have some pages from Rarity's diary!" The others' jaws dropped. She waved them around a bit.
"How did ya even get em?" AJ questioned.
"I found them on her floor when I was at her place."
"Um, maybe we shouldn't look at those," Fluttershy suggested.
"Oh, and get this. They're from when Trenderhoof was here!" Fluttershy's ears pricked up. Her face formed into a bit of a devilish grin.
"Maybe it wouldn't hurt to read a few of them." Twilight grabbed one of the pages. She cleared her throat.
Dear Diary,
Trenderhoof is finally here and he is so dreamy! If it weren't for Applejack he would be mine! I mean, what does she have that I don't? I'm beautiful, smart, and rich! I realize saying that makes me sound like an egotistical snob who thinks beauty is everything. But it's all true! He isn't creating poems for me, or giving me looks of adoration. I'm so much prettier than her and so much more interesting! I just hope he notices me soon or else I'll, I'll, I'll do something! Ugh, why is it that the one stallion I like the most is the one stallion who I can't charm. What does he see in Applejack of all mares? If he was in love with anypony other than me, I would expect it to be a celebrity, not a country mare. I should feel better writing about all this, but I don't. I swear I will win over Trend if it's the last thing I do!
XOXO,
Rarity
The mares broke into laughter. "Beautiful, smart, and rich? More like a liar, delusional, and rich!" Rainbow Dash said. Pinkie snorted. Fluttershy was clutching her stomach and laughing so hard she was crying.
"What a drama queen!" Twilight criticized.
"Here's another one!" Fluttershy said. "It says,
Dear Diary,
I've finally done it! Trend finally realized who the finest mare in town is. Now that he's stopped having an interest in Applejack, I finally have a shot with him. I still don't know why he was so infatuated with her. Let's face it, I'm a lot prettier than her." Fluttershy stopped after reading half the entry. They all laughed. "Yeah right. As if she’s actually pretty. The only reason some stallions fall for her is because she plays the ‘Damsel in Distress’ card and bats her eyes.”
“She knows every stallion probably does it out of pity, right?” Twilight said.
“As if! She’s not smart enough to know that!” Rainbow Dash laughed.
“I don’t know how she figured out how to operate a business,” Twilight said.
“Maybe she tried to flirt with some stallions who help her out!” Applejack suggested. The entire group burst into laughter. “Or maybe she tried to bribe her sister!” she country mare said as she laughed.
“Honestly, she treats her sister like dirt most of the time! And her parents travel so much, so that poor filly has to deal with Rarity all the time,” Fluttershy said.
“Apple Bloom told me how Rarity treats her. Sweetie Belle can’t cook a thing and burns all the food whenever she tries. Rarity complains about it all the time, but she never actually tries to help the filly learn how tah cook!” As the group continued criticizing Rarity and looking at the pages of her diary, little did the they know that they were being watched.
Rarity could not believe what she was hearing and seeing. She didn’t want to believe it. But it was true, all of it. Them reading her diary, talking about how she was awful to her sister, and how she was a dumb fake. She ran away crying after they left. She threw herself on her bed and sobbed into her pillow. She looked up, sadness in her eyes. “Is that really what they all think of me? That I’m just an idiot who mistreats her innocent sister and has nothing but her looks and money?” Rarity sniffled. Suddenly, she heard a knock at her door. She trotted towards it, hoping it wasn’t one of her friends. She opened it, seeing that it was Fancy Pants. She tried to straighten her mane and wipe away some of her smeared mascara.
“Rarity? What happened to you?”
“It’s nothing, come in,” the unicorn said. Fancy Pants raised an eyebrow, but didn’t ask any more questions. Rarity asked him about his visit a bit, but for the most part was quiet.
“Rarity, can I ask you something?”
“Sure.”
“Is something wrong? You seem quieter than usual.”
“Well, yes, but you can’t tell anypony.”
“I won’t, I promise.” Rarity told him everything.
“I want to think that it’s just a bad dream, or this is all my imagination. I’d even rather them all be unreformed changelings than my friends. But I know that’s not the truth. But I want it to be.”
“Rarity, if this all happened, then you should ask your friends about it.”
“But what if that makes things even worse?”
“It won’t.”
“I’m afraid of the chance that it will. What if that gives them more reasons to hate me?”
“We shouldn’t fear what bad things could happen. Worrying gives small things big shadows.”
“I suppose you’re right. The situation is already bad, I might as well try to fix things. Thank you, Fancy, I needed this.”
“Anytime, Rarity, anytime.” After saying their goodbyes, Fancy Pants left and Rarity was left to think. She looked at the time. Sweetie Belle had gone out with her friends and wouldn’t be back for another hour and a half, giving her plenty of time to herself. She sat down on her couch. It didn’t take long for her to decide whether or not to confront her friends about this or not. They would find out sooner or later, she should just get it over with. With her mind at peace, she went to her sewing room to finish an outfit she had been working on. By the time she finished, her sister was home and had entered the room.
“Hey Rarity. Whatcha doin?”
“I just finished a new outfit.”
“Cool, can I see?” Rarity carefully picked up the dress in her aura. It was lined with detailed floral patterns stitched in golden thread, made of smooth light blue fabric with half sleeves made of the same fabric, and had three blue ribbon bows at the front. “Wow, that looks amazing!” The filly looked at her hooves. “I wish I could sew like that.”
“Oh, cheer up Sweetie. Some ponies just have different talents than others. I know for a fact that you can sing better than anypony else in our family.”
“That’s only because whenever Mom and Dad sing, they yell at the top of their lungs.”
“Remember when at that party, they did a duet for karaoke?” Sweetie Belle giggled at the memory of her parents singing karaoke together. She hugged her sister.
“Thanks Rarity, you’re the best sister ever.” Those words warmed her heart. Sweetie Belle left the room and went up to hers. Rarity sighed. It felt good to have those moments with her sister, where they weren’t fighting or laughing at each other, like when they would read a romance story. It was one of the few activities that Sweetie Belle had always loved doing with her older sister. Sometimes they’d pretend to be the characters, or even write stories about the books. These thoughts made Rarity feel happy to know that she wasn’t a bad sibling. She walked up to her room. It was getting late, and she was pretty worn out. She pulled herself under the covers and drifted off to sleep, ready for the challenges the next day may bring.
The Mane 5 were sitting in the map room of Twilight’s castle waiting for Rarity. “I wonder what she called us here for.” Fluttershy said. Almost immediately after she said that, Rarity walked in. She sat down. She cleared her throat.
“Girls, there’s something I wanted to talk to you about. I heard what you said yesterday. About me.”
“Oh no,” Twilight said.
“Rarity, we know what we said was really bad,” Fluttershy began.
“And we’re really, really sorry about it.” Rainbow Dash continued.
“I’m not mad about what you said. I just want to know why you said it. Is that what you really think about me?”
“Of course that’s not what we think about you. Rainbow Dash just took out your diary pages, and then everything came out, we couldn’t stop,” Twilight said, her ears pinned against her skull. “We shouldn’t have even read them.”
“Now that I think about it, none of you are really to blame, other than Rainbow Dash.”
“Now hold on just a second, Rainbow Dash may have had the pages, but this ain’t her fault. We all chose to read the pages.”
“Well, you wouldn’t have even read the pages had Rainbow Dash just returned them to me.” The girls continued to argue, with Twilight and Pinkie siding with Rarity, and Applejack siding with Rainbow Dash.
“STOP!” Fluttershy yelled. “Do none of you realize that this is all of our faults? Rarity was partially to blame. Her actions and what she’s written in her diary prove that she is far from perfect. And the rest of us took things way too far and criticized her for things she hasn’t even done! Rainbow Dash, you shouldn’t have taken the pages in the first place, but the four of us actually read them as well, we all did wrong things, but us five, we were monsters! So please sto arguing!” The rest of the mares were stunned at her outburst.
“Fluttershy’s right, we’re all to blame here,” Twilight admitted. The others nodded in agreement and apologized to one another.
“So are we cool?” Rainbow Dash asked.
“Yes, yes we are.”
Author's Note
Some of the drama encountered is actually based on things that have happened to me and my friends, in some cases ex-friends. I know one of you is gonna say Fluttershy isn't this mean, but she was the one who was a little reluctant to read the pages. Also, even the nicest people can do mean things sometimes. Also Rarity doesn't have that big if an ego, but your bad qualities do tend to get worse when you're mad. I'm thinking of maybe doing an end chapter where each member of the Mane 6 gets called out by someone else on trash talking their friends.
