One day in Equestria, a group of Archaeologists come up Princess Celestia to ask for funding so they can start digging for the remains of an extremely ancient race of unknown bipeds that preceded ponies. After explaining to Celestia that there was very little fossil evidence of such a race but also explaining that they had a very strong lead that led a ancient city under the ground just south of the badlands, beyond Equestrian territory, Celestia agreed to kickstart their dig. With guards, equipment and good spirits in tow, the group set off on their quest to discover history in the making. Upon arriving at the dig-site, they are greeted to dry, barren land. Not being deterred by this, the group begin digging. After many exhausting weeks and very little discovery the group begins to lose hope. That was until suddenly one of the group, a young mare falls into a pit partially buried by the sand. After coming to her senses and coming in contact with her co-workers, they explored the deep, dark crevice.
