Chapter 1: The Invitation
"Burp!" A purple dragon said, green flames bursting out of his mouth and a nicely rolled up scroll laid nicely upon the floor.
Spike picked up it and unraveled it. "Ahem..." he began.
"Dear Twilight, I would like you to come attend a dinner here at the Empire to celebrate my little filly Flurry Heart's birthday. You and your friends are all welcome to come. The dinner will be held tomorrow night. I'd love to see you, and I'm sure Flurry would love to see her auntie and her friends. Hope to see you. Love, your beloved sister in law. "
Spike finished reading the scroll to Twilight Sparkle and Starlight, Twilight who had been reading a book looked at him and Starlight who said,
"Flurry Heart's birthday. Sounds nice. Right Twilight?" Starlight looked at her mentor. "EEH, my little niece is already almost a year old." Twilight got up from her throne chair and elatedly levitated the letter out of Spike's hands and smiled widely.
"Oooh, I can't wait to go" Twilight said excitedly. "For all of us to go" she added. Spike and Starlight exchanged a smile at her.
"Hey, do you want me to go tell the others about it so they can start preparing?" Starlight asked with a grin.
"That would be great" Twilight said with a reassured look.
"Great!...I'll go now" Starlight said enthusiastically and left the castle.
Starlight Glimmer walked around Ponyville and saw Fluttershy and Rarity trot out of the spa giggling and having a conversation and she approached them. "Hey guys, whats up?" she asked them.
"Oh darling we just got out of the spa, isn't that right Fluttershy?" Rarity said with a smile, the yellow pegasus next to her nodding.
"It was very relaxing" Fluttershy said softly.
"Thats good. Anywho I came to tell that Twilight received a letter from Princess Cadence and it said that she was inviting all of us to the Crystal Empire to celebrate Flurry's birthday party"
"Flurry Heart's party?! Oh my what a delight" Rarity exclaimed happily.
"Yeah.." Starlight chuckled a bit.
"When is it?" Fluttershy then asked.
"Tomorrow evening"
"Tomorrow?! Oh we have to inform the others know right now" Rarity said with a huge grin.
"Would you do that? Will you go tell Pinkie and Rainbow and Applejack?" Starlight chuckled again.
"I can go tell Rainbow Dash" Fluttershy said sweetly.
"And I'll let Pinkie Pie and Applejack know, I do need to pick up something from Applejack's farm in a bit anyway" Rarity added.
"Thanks you guys" Starlight smiled.
"No problem dear" Rarity said, and with that Starlight walked away and said
"Phew, atleast I don't have to worry about telling the others" and she trotted back to Twilight's castle. As Starlight walked into the castle, she was bewildered when she saw a pacing around Twilight.
"Twilight? What's wrong?"
"Oh, hi Starlight! You told our friends about Cadence's letter right?" she stopped pacing and looked at her student with a frantic smile.
"I ran into Rarity and Fluttershy and I told them so now they're gonna go tell the other for me" Starlight smiled back at her but then turned serious. "Why are you so frantic right now though?"
"I'm just a little nervous for tomorrow that's all" Twilight rubbed her left forehoof on the ground.
"Why would you be nervous about seeing your niece, brother and sister in-law?"
"I don't know, It's just gonna be finally one of the very few times I get to spend time with either Cadence or my brother without there being a severe disaster"
"Oh, right" Starlight giggled nervously, quickly remembering the Crystalling and how that went at first.
"Yeah.." Twilight said slowly, another thought popping into her head which made her even more nervous but she decided not to ponder of that specific thought and just picked the book she was reading before.

Hours eventually passed by and Rarity decided to drop by the castle. "Hello!," she said with a smile approaching the reading alicorn.
"Oh hi Rarity" she looked up from her book, noticing the dark royal indigo scarf around Rarity's neck.
"Fluttershy and I told the others about the invitation and I couldn't help resisting getting scarves' for all of us to wear tomorrow" Rarity said happily, pulling out 3 scarves, one aqua, one magenta, and one brown. Wrapping the magenta one around Twilight, the aqua around Starlight, and the brown one around Spike.
"Wow, thanks Rarity" Starlight smiled.
"That's really thoughtful of you" Twilight said.
"I love it!' Spike said, happily enjoying the feeling of it around his neck and then left to continue his chores in the kitchen area of the castle.
"I gave the others' theirs already. I'm also bringing a teeny one for little Flurry Heart tomorrow as my gift" Rarity said smiling more.
Twilight gasped. "Did you say gift?" and she screamed.
"Er, yes? What's the matter darling?"
"I haven't gotten a gift!"
"Darling, you were just notified today about the invite today"
"But her birthday is tomorrow! How could I be so forgetful? Forget the invitation, I should've remembered to get her a gift, party or no party I'm a terrible aunt!!"
"Twilight, I'm sure you'll figure out a gift for her by tomorrow. When haven't you figured out something for a situation?" Starlight said, approaching the two whilst looking at her mentor. "How old is she? One?" she added.
"Yes"
"Starlight is right dear, you will figure out a gift for her." Rarity chimed in.
"But what?"
"Hmm, what about a new toy?" Starlight said with a smirk.
"A new toy! Yes!" Twilight frantically looked at her student with a huge grin.
"Heh..." Starlight's eyes widened as she was a bit frightened by her mentor's quick reaction.
"Well a toy sounds like a lovely gift for your niece" Rarity said with a smile.
Twilight eased up and with a nervous laugh said "Yeah...Thank you Starlight"
"Hehe...no problemo"
Twilight got her saddlebag immediately and said "I'm going to get her a toy" and she quickly trotted out of the castle, leaving Starlight and Rarity both with a smile.
