//-------------------------------------------------------// Fallout Equestria: The Shadowlands -by Night--Mist- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue Night Mist's P.O.V. Running....... It seemed to be all I've been doing for most of my life for as long as I've been on my own. There was a period where I had been safe. We lived in what was called Stable V. At first I thought they meant Stable 5 when I was little, since the letter was matched to the number 5 in ancient text. But I was wrong. I found Stable 5 resided in another part of what ponies used to call Equestria from what I was taught about our nations history. We all know it as the Wastelands. While in Stable V, the overmare, Lightning Blast, who was a Unicorn did her best to make sure our Stable was well cared for. Stable life wasn't bad, but it was frightfully boring. Well, except for the books in the stable. I read everything from "Rarity's Guide to a More Exciting Lifestyle", which seemed to be an awful lot about fashion, but I suppose she was trying to lift ponies spirits in her time.... whenever that exactly was. Gotta admit, that was generous of her. And I also read things like Rainbow Dash's high soaring adventures as "Top Wing", and "Fluttershy's Secrets to a Thriving Greenhouse Garden", which has served the Stable very well. One book that really had my attention as a colt had been "The Oasis". This book was one of the most recent copies we had of all the books that were among them. Some dated back to the time before the event we call "The Flash", which was the final ultimatum that had ended the war between Ponies and Zebras, and nearly ended life as we know it, except for our ancestors who had taken refuge in the Stables built by the company Stable-Tec, and their founders, the CMC. I forget what the letters stand for. Anyways, other books were right after The Flash happened. But this book called "The Oasis", had at least taken place 100 years after The Flash. Most passed it off as a pure myth, for no such land had been recorded on our maps or in our Pipbuck's database. So, as far as I knew, it was that no one could find this rumored oasis. And I feel most, if not all who ventured to find such a place didn't fair too well. When I was about 8 years old, Lightning Blast had tried to take me from my mother and father. This was right after I had gotten my cutie mark. It bore a resemblance to what seemed like a sky of both day and night, but devoid of the clouds that blanketed the sky outside. I'm not sure what it meant, and I didn't see why this made the Overmare want to take me away from my parents. We escaped through the Stable V door, which no one else in the stable dared to open or step outside from these days. From that point on, we entered the Wastelands, and we had been given the sites of the ruined city of what had been known as Canterlot. We gathered what supplies we could, using our Pipbucks to make sure they weren't full of radiation. For a while we survived not very bad off. But when I was 9, Raiders had caught us by surprise, and they took the lives of my parents, who had been merely batpony. I suppose I should mention at this time, I am what's known as a Bat Pony Alicorn. I have all the traits of the other pony races, Earth Pony, Pegasi, and Unicorns. I had also developed wings that were leathery, and eyes more equipped for night maneuvers. Once in I while I had the occasional meat that had not been tainted, but my diet consisted mostly of vegetables and fruits, also not tainted by radiation. Daytime was really hard, till I found some glasses that shaded the sun's light for me. A couple of times in my life I had been captured by slave traders, but soon escaped their grasp. But I was constantly pursued, by both slave traders and raiders alike. I may have stayed a town or two of ponies who had built post war civilizations in the Wastelands, but I didn't stay too long. I didn't want to let them get hurt, and I knew I may be the target of blame should any misfortunes arise during my stay. That's not to say I didn't have friends in those towns, but they understood why I took leaves of absence. But today was another day of running. Raiders tailing me from behind, trying to fire their guns at me. I hated guns, even if I knew how to use them. They were so uncivilized. I preferred the sword. An elegant weapon, and much better for close range combat. I could easily stop bullets, but swords were another story. Even snipers who claimed themselves the best shot out here couldn't touch me. But here I am bragging. Today though, I had a huge gang after me, but I couldn't understand. They usually never raided this far north. it was on the edge of what I know as the Winter Territory. I had been up that way a few times, but only for very brief periods. As my attention was on the raiders, I had failed to look in front of me in my panicked state, and in an instant, I felt the ground beneath me vanish and soon saw a slope that lead into a darkened area, approaching fast. I braced for impact, and tried to use a teleportation spell. It had worked, but not as well as I had hoped. While I had been able to cushion my impact, it did not stop me from rolling down the slope into the darkness. As I came to rest at the bottom, everything that I could see in the dark area I was in, was spinning. I could hear the Raiders above cackling and one saying, "This will be as easy as shootin fillies in a cage." Just as I watched him begin to load his gun, I heard what sounded like thunder, but it was repeating itself like every 3 seconds, and the thunder was getting closer from what I could hear and had caught the sniper raiders attention as well as I saw him gasp. But I had been too weakened and to dazed to try and make an effort to see what it was. Everything started to become blurry, and I could hear some sort of sound that was odd in nature, but from what I could hear, it was not giving the raiders a good time as I heard their screams. As I began to loose consciousness, I could see shapes and shadows approaching, and voices that sounded, well, friendly. But finally, everything around me went black as I entered the dream realm. Author's Note Okay, please go easy on me about this chapter. I'm trying to see how well I did in first person. But constructive criticism is welcome. Let me know what you think.
