Chapter 6
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThree days had passed since your late night visit to the library. You were uncertian what you were going to do right now but you convinced yourself that this would be a great and relaxing trip. It was just to watch other ponies watching stars anyways. If anything should happend, it would be best there. You would have a better time to figure out the situation since it weren't going to be any civilians there. Of course her friends would be there too but you could easily remove them from the scene. You just begged that if something should happend, let it be there. You didn't know if your body was ready to do something like that again and this time it involved a completly innocent pony, whos only crime was to be too good. You sat at the table in the kitchen. You were focusing on the difficult task at hand. You knew you would depart today to travel up to your destination. She talked to you yesterday and gave you all the infromation you would need. You had sent a notice to the Princess just in case of any emergency and now the only problem left was you. You didn't know what you were doing anymore. Was this because of the difference between earlier missions and this. You usually had a good view over everything but not now. Was it fear? The idea that you might have to do something unspeakable again. You jumped back when you heard the knocking on the door.
"Who is it?" You quickly ask. You weren't exactly in the mood for any visitors right now. You probably already knew who it was but you slowly approached the door waiting for a response.
"It's me, Twillight," the voice was clear and your guesses were correct. You opened the door rather hastely.
"Good morning," you said. You knew she would come by today to talk about the route you were going to take up the mountain but she still caugth you off guard for some reason.
"Hello," she said while looking at you. You hadn't showered today. It had been one of those nights again were you gave up sleeping and rather sat quietly and thought about certian things.
"Sorry about my look, I had a bad night," you tried to force a smile. You knew you had to happy or else you might come off as angry or not interested. You actually were kinda exctied. Since this was one of those one-time-only events, the thought of just being there made it exciting.
"It's not too bad," she looked at you with a smile.
"So, where are we going?" You quickly changed the subject.
"Well, I brought you this map, so if you could join me by the town hall in about two hours and we should be on our way," She explained. Two words made you suspicious. She said "me" and then "we" as in just you and her. Where are all her friends in this plan?
"So are your friends coming later or something?" you quickly asked.
"No," she said with a sad expression. "They were all too busy to join the trip so it will just be you and me. I hope that it wont be a problem."
"Of course not," you looked at her with a smile. Though you didn't like the thought of it you had to join her. It was for her own safety and it was kinda sad that none of her friends were able to come with her. She handed you the map.
"So just look over it a few times and we should be ready. I'll se you later." She walked away and down into the town again.
Well this was just wonderful. You had to be with her alone there. It would save you some trouble but it would still be very embarrasing. But maybe it was for the best. Should any "incident" happend when you were up there, nopony would get hurt, except you of course. But you didn't get this job to not be a risktaker. But it would be a moment of peace. To watch the sky and its wonderful show was probably just what you needed. You started packing. You hadn't brought much from Canterlot but it would be enough to survive through your staying on top of the mountain. You quickly opened the map to see where you were going. There was a mountain next to Ponyville and you were going to go there. It would probably be cold there and you would have to spend the night up there so you would have to get a few things from the local store. You decided to use an hour to clear everything. You rushed to the shower and it took only took a few minutes to get completely clean. You tried to be as quick as you could. Breakfast was already eaten and you were almost ready. You quickly packed a few clothes in case of the cold up there and your little book. You stopped a few seconds to look at it before you placed it into the bag. You took the bag on your back and left the house. You had used a little under an hour to do all this and you had plenty of time left.
You walked camly into the general store in Ponyville. You weren't in a rush and this place wasn't exactly the store you should barge through. You chose dinner and a nice tent. "This will probably come in handy," you thought while getting certian other things for it. You were done after a while and placed all the goods on your back. You were ready and you decide to head for the Town Hall right now. Packed with the different things you walked into the main location of this little town. The area in front of the Town Hall wasn't big but it would suit it's purpose for the different occasions which could happend here. You waited around for a while. You were still early but you thought you would get some time to yourself and just look at the scenery. It was a wonderful place. You weren't actually troubled with the weather here. It was sunny and beautiful outside. The entire town was marvelous and was in good contact with the nature. It was sad to think how Canterlot had developed through the years. Your thoughts were broken by someone talking to you.
"Are you ok?" You snapped out of your trance. The purple mare was talking to you.
"Yes, I'm fine," You probably looked wierd when you stood completly still and looked into the air. She looked at you for a second with a wierd look before she continued speaking.
"Ok, then. Should we start on our jorney?" She asked while moving in the direction which leads out of town. You nodded and followed without saying anything. You traveled along the road which led out of the town and north towards Canterlot. After a while you got off the road and into the forest. The forest was a pretty place but was soon gone and in the clearing you saw a mountain. It was a narrow path up but you had to walk it. You were assured that this was the best way to get up to the mountain. You just had to believe it. It looked like someone had walked there a few times before you. Not that it erased any doubts. You made your way up the mountain and after a while you got the hang of it. You came up to a flat area and you both sat down to take a break.
"How far up are we?" You turned to the mare.
"I have no idea," she answered to your shock.
"What!?" You yelled out and thought that it might not have been the best response.
"I'm sorry but I've never been up there before and some of the ponies back in Ponyville told me that this was a great place and gave me some directions." You looked at her for a while before coming to your senses.
"Ok. Hopefully their right. Sorry about my reaction," You calmed down. It wasn't her fault. She probably had a stronger bond to these ponies than you had to...Well anypony.
"It's ok," she said quietly. You stood up ready to walk again. She on the other hand looked at you like you were insane.
"Are you crazy, we can't walk now!" She looked at you with a strange look.
"Why not?" you replied.
"We have just gotten here and I'm exhausted from all this carrying," She pointed on her bags. The looked rather heavy. She had really thought this one through. Maybe except how much she could manage to have on her back. You looked through your things before looking towards her.
"Let me take one of them." That sentence seemed to trigger something. She looked at you for a short while before handing one of the bags to you. You placed it strategically where you found open space. It didn't feel heavier at all but that might have been from all the training. Sure, you were a pony who had to work againts magic but that didn't mean that every fight between the police and a criminal would resolved with magic. You had experienced that one time. You were chasing this pony who were accused of misuse of magic. Another word for making havock in the city. You finally tracked him down but there was something you weren't informed about. His body strength. You usually went alone and once you opened the door to the place he was supposed to be you were kicked in that jaw. You quickly got up on your hoofs and tried to indentify him. It was hard as your sight was blurry. Once you got a good look at him you decided that magic would be the best tactic here. You hadn't seen a larger pony before. You got him down quickly because of his mental health. Sure he could cast a few dangerous spells but he had focused so much on being a strong pony that he had forgot he was a unicorn. After that day you started training a lot more in physical training.
"Ok, let's go." She was determined. That was great. She walked past you and up the mountain. There was a large ascent which you really hoped where the last you had to overcome to be on the top. At least it weren't a narrow path anymore. You looked at the upwars lope for a few seconds before deciding that you should hurry up. The purple mare was already a quarter of the way up. You didn't start running but maintained a faster speed than your co-climber. You didn't focus on the mountain right now. You knew you were supposed to just follow the road and don't trip on anything. You thought back on all the good times in the force. The few you had. A usual day involved a lot of beating but here. It was so peaceful.
"Hey!" you heard a voice behind you. You stopped for a second to come back to the real world before you turned around. At some point you had passed her. You were unsure how but you managed it. You waited for her to catch up to you.
"How did you manage that?" she asked, clearly exhausted.
"Managed what?" You didn't understand what she was implying.
"You basically ran past me and you didn't answer when I yelled after you," You stopped for a few seconds. Well, you were done with thinking about the days in the force while others were around.
"Sorry. I was buried in my own thoughts," you tried to explain yourself.
"How did you manage it. Thought you were only a librarian. Are you mountain climber at the side?" She joked while starting to walk again. She was probably referring to your so called "running".
"No, I've just trained a lot recently," you said. like that explained anything. You remember "those" days in the force, which you only referred to as "Hell". It was a few days were you had to run different routes. Of course that wouldn't be hard if not the pony who planned those routes had a hatred againts any living thing. You sometimes looked back on those days and felt sorry for the recruits now-a-days. You snapped back to reality and you noticed how far up you both had come. After a few minutes you were almost at the top of the mountain and you could hear that this was it. Your asscoiate was really showing it by moving slightly faster and you could hear her exhaustion. You walked just for a few more minutes before reaching the top.
The overview was fantastic. You could look down and spot Ponyville and you could get a close look at Canterlot, your home. You felt kinda homesick right now. Sure, the place wasn't as great as everyone said it was and of course your job was kinda rubbish, but it was your mess and it was your home. You stood and looked at it for a little while. Just looking at your home from the other side of the city. The place looked so wonderful.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" The unicorn stood next to you.
"Yes, yes it is," you said with a smile. You started unpacking the various things you had with you. You handed the bag to the exhausted climber and went on to put up a tent. If you had understood the instructions right, the meteor storm wasn't supposed to happend before much later. The following day to be precise so you would have to sleep here tonight. You were told that it was only for preperations. You could understand that and you didn't complain. This seemed like a good spot. It was starting to get late so you both said your goodnights and she went inside her tent. You could see that the lamp inside got turned off.
You just sat there for a little while, just looking at Canterlot. It was so different. You could understand why so many ponies had been told that it was fantastic. All of them had probably just seen it from the outside. You thought over the good things you still had in Canterlot. A place to sleep (Which weren't the streets so you couldn't complain), the lovey job and the city itself. Despite all it flaws, a life there weren't bad. It was just so much more on the inside than what was said by everypony. You crawled into your tent. You would have a lot of time to look at it. It had been a long day filled with climbing and little sleep. Maybe you could finally sleep ok.
