Breakfast and plans - Celestia
“So you think I’m ready for this?” Princess Celestia asked her sister Luna over their morning breakfast.
“For this one tonight,” Luna paused to give it a little more thought. “Yes.”
“You know Twilight can use a lesson in dream walking. She and her friends did help you once-”
“NO!” Luna clamored.“Not Twilight Sparkle!”
She was startled by her sister’s sudden outburst.
“You’re not entering her dreams tonight!?” She asked perplexed.
“No…” Luna sighed, placing a hoof to her forehead. “It’s her parent’s... they are having marriage troubles.”
They sat there silently, Luna gave an earnest look at her.
They had a long history together: starting with being playmates as fillies, rulers as adults, enemies, and then reunited and forgiven each other. At this point in their age they could only trust each other. The only other two ponies possible -no capable-of doing what Luna was asking would be-
“Cadence!” Celestia blurted out.“She’s an Alicorn! She’s the princess of Love!”
Luna gave her a piercing stare. Celestia felt like she was trying to mentally telegraph her thoughts to her. She paused to think about her words and then immediately gasped in shock.
“Cadence can’t help…She’s married to Twilight’s brother. Making Twilight’s parents-” Celestia's voice trailed off.
“Princess Cadence’s mother and father-in-law.” Luna finished nodding quietly.
Celestia fell back in her dining room chair, and took a sip of her tea.
Luna remained still.
“Cadence absolutely refused to set hoof in her mother-in-law’s dreams when we spoke last night.” Luna finally said taking a sip of coffee.
“Was this in person?” Celestia asked.
“Yes,” Luna replied. “It was shortly after she and Shining Armor with their baby arrived by train. She said it was delicate but an urgent matter that the two of us should undertake.”
“And before you ask,” She said holding up a scroll. “Both she and Twilight agreed to help with rising and setting of both the sun and moon tonight and tomorrow so we can take the day off if we end up exhausted.”
Luna lit up her horn and used her magic to levitate a small bell beside her plate and rang it.
A servant pony walked into the room, and gave the two of them a bow.
“Make plans,” Luna told him. “We are going to be conducting some important sleep research tonight. Celestia will be in the astronomy tower, while Cadence will be in the guest chambers. It is important that no one is to wake us. Reschedule any royal business after sunset today for tomorrow night. If any emergencies should arrive, Shining Armor as agreed to be woken and address them.”
“And you, your majesty? Where will you be?” He asked.
“Busy with our sister in the astronomy tower as well. Please give word to the chamber maids.” Luna said glancing at Celestia.
“Ah yes! Very good your majesties.” He gave another bow and left the room.
Luna had gone back to drinking her coffee. Celestia kept her mouth closed tight till she knew the pony was no longer in listening distance.
“Shining Armor and Twilight are in on this too!?” Celestia finally asked in a harsh tone.
Luna snorted her coffee through her nose, followed by a coughing fit of laughter.
“Oh no,” Luna laughed between gasps. “Imagine -cough- them being remotely interested -wheeze- or wanting to have anything to do with their parent’s sex lives. Do you want to mentally scar them?”
“I see your point,” Celestia said unamused.
“We did send a letter to Twilight’s assistant Spike, to make sure to keep her undisturbed. He replied that was going to be very easy since Twilight has already gotten planning for covering for us tomorrow. He said the first thing she said to him upon getting my request was to cancel everything tomorrow and she was moving her bedtime to earlier tonight.
“Why is Twilight’s early bedtime important?”
Luna wiped her snout with a napkin, still clearing her throat.
“As I said before, Cadence wants nothing to do with her mother-in-law’s dreams. But she seemed almost giddy when we told her that Twilight has built a beautiful Mind Palace that she goes to before she falls completely into deeper sleep.”
“Oh, I see your plan now sister,” Celestia nodded. “With Shining watching the kingdom, and Cadence and Twilight occupied with each other-”
“They also agree to watch over the greater dream realm for the night,” Luna added.
Celestia looked quizzically at her.
“We have been giving Cadence and Twilight lessons for a few moons now,” Luna said quite proudly. “Together we know they will manage. At least for tonight”
Celestia was beginning to feel much better and better about the plan the more she thought about it.
“You were very busy last night, weren't you, Luna?” Celestia quipped nodding. “I know the two of them will manage fine tomorrow during the day.”
She paused for a moment.
“Twilight Velvet and Night Light,” she muttered quietly to herself
“Are just a regular Canterlot couple who need to get some spice back in their marriage.“ Luna responded calmly. “This is by request of the princess of love, fellow Alicorn, and with her consent to leave the whole thing in our care.”
“Has she taught you some love lessons?” Celestia asked with a sultry smile. “Oh and pass the fruit please?”
“Pfff,” Luna said, rolling her eyes as she levitated the bowl to Celestia.”We’ve been giving relationship guidance to ponies in their dreams since before she was born. In fact We once had to do a ‘save your marriage’ dream for her not that long ago.”
“No,” Celestia said with a scandalous tone. “You were able to dream walk into Cadence’s, an adult alicorn’s, dreams to give her help with her marriage?”’
Luna’s cheeks blushed.
“It was sometime after she announced she was pregnant with Flurry Heart, she and Shining Armor must have had a terrible row that night.”
“And nothing strange came of it?” Celestia asked.
“The crystal heart was reported a rise in its brightness the following day.” Luna boasted with a proud look. “Our only regret was what came after. Cadence came to Us in person and demanded that We teach her how she could do it too so she could help boost the morale to her subjects in the Crystal Empire.”
“Ah yes,” Celestia said serving fruit on her plate. “The population boom of the Crystal Empire.”
“Well deduced, sister.” Luna said levitating a fork of pineapple slice to her mouth.
“You two didn’t?” Celestia made an obscene gesture with the peeled banana she so happened to be holding.
“No!” Luna said immediately after swallowing a bite. “It was after she was with foal.”
“Do you normally go into dreams of mares carrying foals?”
“Sure.” Luna said quite confidently with a mouth full of fruit. “Yes their hormones make things a little loopy, but it’s all well manageable within the confines of our magic. The things that need to be said are said and done, and we leave as we do with all the ponies we visit in the night.”
Celestia gave her an incredulous blank stare.
“Oh please sister, you and your perverse imagination” Luna scoffed. “There is no physical contact, mares can’t get pregnant in their sleep through dream walking, that’s in chapter one of the book. Your own magic and DNA tests proved that Flurry Heart is 100% Cadence and Shining’s foal.”
Celestia rolled her eyes and sighed
“That’s not my concern, Luna. I’ve read the same books too.”
“Then what are you implying, dear sister?”
“How about you using your alicorn dream magic on another alicorn carrying a foal, and the affect of your magic possibly contributing to the fetus being born naturally an alicorn?”
Luna’s jaw dropped, as well as her fork and it clattered on the marble floor.
She started sputtering.
“We… Cadence’s foal… She? Shining and Cadence conceived… it was a natural birth… She was already… But, OH!”
It was now Celestia’s turn to nicker.
Luna’s mouth moved wordlessly for a moment and then she paused, and took a deep breath to say something.
“I-”
“Let's,” Celestia interrupted, “have that discussion later, dear sister!”
She raised her cup of tea to her lips. “With Cadence. Just the three of us… in confidence.”
Luna closed her gaping mouth, while Celestia took a sip.
“Yes,” Luna said returning to her royal demeanor. “Much later. After we take care of the matter tonight.”
“Agreed,” Celestia said using her magic to pull up her itinerary for today.
