Epilogue

"Carry That Weight"

Rarity groggily trotted down the staircase, a limp cigarette in her mouth. Tonight for some reason, she hadn’t been able to get a single wink of sleep.

Maybe if I drink some warm milk I’ll be able to finally sleep. She wondered.

She entered the kitchen and opened the fridge. She was nearly blinded by the light inside and muttered some expletives under her breath.

She found the milk however and groggily tugged at it with her magic. The milk begrudgingly drifted from the fridge over to the counter. She opened the pantry and dragged out a coffee mug. She sloppily poured the milk in, some of it spilling.

Opalescence appeared, probably smelling the milk and lapped up the spill.

Rarity closed the milk and put it back in the fridge. She turned towards the microwave and put the mug inside. After about two minuets, the microwave dinged and the milk was ready.

Rarity took the mug out of the microwave and practically dragged herself over to the couch. She flopped herself down.

“I am Iron Mare.” A male voice suddenly said.

Rarity was instantly snapped out of her zombie state and bolted up from the couch, lighting up her horn to bring some light into the room.

“Who’s there!” she shouted, prepared to don her armor at a moment’s notice.

There was a sigh and suddenly a pure white unicorn stallion seemingly appeared out of nowhere.

“Good evening, Miss Rarity.” He said, tipping his head in respect.

Rarity eyed him suspiciously. He had a dark blue mane with light blue highlights and he wore a beautiful black leather coat that covered his body.

He’s actually kind of handsome, Rarity thought. Except for that eye patch, I mean what’s up with that?

“It’s the eye patch isn’t it?” He suddenly said, sounding somewhat amused.

“Who are you and what do you want?” Rarity said, taking a step back.

“Well, as to the first question, I’m Shining Armor, director of N.E.I.G.H.S.” he extended a hoof.

“Um, okay then.” Rarity said as she reluctantly shook his hoof. “Wait, N.E.I.G.H.S.? You mean that YOU’RE Twilight’s boss?”

The stallion nodded. “That’s right.”  He smiled as he shook her hoof.

“And as to your second question, I’m here to talk to you about a very special project I’d like you to take part in.” he said as they sat down, Rarity turning on a nearby lamp.

“Um…okay, what is it?” she asked, her curiosity piqued. No use being rude, she thought, since he seems like a nice colt. She awkwardly sipped her milk.

“What you said has caused quite a stir.”

Rarity raised an eyebrow. “What did I say to cause such a stir?”

“I am Iron Mare. That’s really quite a bold statement.” Shining Armor said, “Just to come out like that. Really quite a world shaker.”

Rarity shrugged. “Well, I guess you could say honesty is the best policy. Wouldn’t want to be like that bat nut in Trottingham.”

Shining Armor chuckled. “Well, it’s obvious Miss Belle that I’m not here to make idle conversation.”

Rarity raised an eyebrow. “Oh really? I seriously couldn’t tell.” She replied, her sarcasm getting the better of her. “I mean seriously, you practically broke into my home.”

She laughed quietly to herself, looking up from her milk at Shining Armor. However, once she saw his face, her laughter died.

His face was suddenly very stern and serious. Gone was the calm, cool, somewhat suave stallion from before, in his place sat a stallion who could, at any moment, be easily capable of ending Rarity right then and there.

Rarity shifted in her chair, suddenly uneasy. “Um…what is it that you want?”

“Miss Belle, I must warn you,” His voice matched his stern face perfectly. “This is only the beginning of something you can’t even imagine. What you did, it starting something. I’m here in your house to ask you to partake in a very special and secret project that I am working on.”

Rarity raised an eyebrow. “Really? What is that?”

“Miss Belle, I’m to talk to you about what I’d like to call, ‘The Avengers Initiative.’”

"Boy you're going to carry that weight

Carry that weight

A long time"
