It had been a couple hours since Twilight and the others had arrived at the castle. Throughout the afternoon and into the evening they searched through the library, hoping to find something that might help them solve the map. But, almost none of the books they had looked in were of any use. And they still had a few more to go. Plus, being concerned for the young colt in the hospital, Twilight had sent Fluttershy back to watch over him.
"Arrgh! This is so frustrating." Twilight grumbled, looking between the map and an open book, "We've looked through so many books, but the markings on the map aren't in any of them."
"Well," Rainbow Dash said, standing beside the purple alicorn and looking over the map, "It's obvious it's a pirate's treasure map. But, I can't make out the signature in the bottom corner. And the riddles almost sound like something from a Daring-Do book."
As the two of them swapped thoughts, Pinkie was looking through another book that had a picture of a squid and a ship on the cover.
"Hey, I think I found something." She said, looking at the picture of a gruff earth pony stallion.
"Who's that?" Rarity asked, looking at the stallion on the page, "I've seen his cutie mark before."
"That would be Captain Moonlight."
Hearing those words, Rainbow Dash's ears perked up.
"Wait a minute." She grinned, "The Captain Moonlight? The richest, most feared, and coolest pirate in history?! Awesome!"
"How do ya know who he is, Dash?" Applejack asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Dad liked to tell me adventure stories when I was a filly. But, his favorite ones were about Captain Crimson Moonlight. He used to tell me that the captain had a way to control the sea, making it easier to rob ships, outrun pirate hunters, and disappear until it was time to attack again."
As interesting as Captain Moonlight sounded, Twilight was having difficulty making sense of it. The stallion she saw on the page was an earth pony. So, for him to control the ocean, it would have to be impossible. Even a powerful alicorn such as Princess Celestia would have difficulty. But, from what Rainbow had said, it sounded like the captain was able to do it with ease.
"Does it say anything else in the book, Pinkie?" She asked, looking over the pink pony's shoulder.
"Hang on." Pinkie replied, flipping the page, "It says here that the captain was the owner of a very powerful gem called the Ocean's Soul. But, when Captain Moonlight passed, the gem wasn't found and the holds of his ship were empty. There wasn't a single gold piece found aboard his ship."
Next to the portrait of Captain Moonlight, there was a picture of an ocean blue sapphire with the label; Ocean's Soul under it.
"I've seen that on the map." Twilight said, holding the map next to the book.
As they looked, there was in fact a gem that looked identical to the one in the book. However, the map was slightly weathered and was worn in some places. But, the gem in question was there.
"So," Rainbow Dash said with some excitement, "this map belonged to Captain Moonlight? Awesome!"
"It looks that way, Rainbow." Twilight confirmed, curiously looking at the map, "But, that still doesn't answer why our little friend has it."
Then, as if on cue, Fluttershy walked in with a smile.
"Good news, everypony." Fluttershy said, entering the big library, "The colt is going to be okay. He was just dehydrated and starved, the poor thing. But, the doctor said that he could be out of the hospital tomorrow morning."
Everyone breathed a say of relieve as they heard that news.
"Great." Twilight grinned, happy to know the colt will be fine, "In fact, we need to talk to him anyway. There are somethings we need him to clear up for us."
The next day, Twilight and her friends went back to the hospital to see the colt. Hopefully, the colt might be able to provide some information as to why he was in the crate. And why he had a treasure map.
"Good morning, Princess." A nurse said, giving a warm smile, "Your little colt friend is doing well, but he's very quiet. Hasn't said a word to anypony all morning."
"He's probably a little scared." Twilight replied, "After all, he was found in a shipping crate."
The nurse lead them to the room the colt was in and found him sitting on the edge of his bed with the doctor checking his heartbeat.
"Okay, son, breathe in." The doctor said as the colt inhaled, "Very good, breathe out."
Seeing the ponies enter the room, the doctor gave an approving smile to the colt, only to receive a shy grin.
"He'll be fine." The doctor said, addressing the ponies, "He just needed some food, liquids, and proper rest. But, it would be best if he was sent back to wherever he came from. His family is probably very worried about the young fellow."
"Thank you, doctor." Twilight said, approaching the colt, "Hello, little friend. My name's Twilight Sparkle and this Applejack, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rainbow Dash. What's your name?"
The colt didn't say or do anything to respond. All he did was look down at the floor and stay quiet. But, being the pony she was, Twilight wasn't willing to give up.
"I know you're scared," she began softly, "but you can trust me when I say that we're your friends. Nothing bad is going to happen to you. All we want is to help you."
The colt lifted his eyes back to her, but still remained quiet.
"Could we have his belongings brought in, please?" Twilight asked the nurse, who nodded, left the room, and returned shortly after with the saddlebag and neckless, "Thank you."
Upon seeing his neckless, the colt quickly snatched it in his magic and put it around his neck. That's when Twilight noticed the colt relax a little and a relieved smile cross his face. The colt then looked up at her with thankful eyes.
"That neckless seems pretty important to you, huh?" Twilight said, looking at the heart gem attached to the chain.
The colt nodded slowly, still remaining silent. But, the response was enough to tell her that she had gotten through to him.
"Is it from somepony special?" Twilight asked, receiving another nod, "You want to tell me who?"
The colt looked down at his neckless and held the gem in his hoof.
"It's from my mother." The little colt finally said, barely loud enough to be heard by all in the room.
Finally, the first words the colt had spoken since they found him. This was a big relief because it had proven that would be easier to talk to the young colt.
"I bet she's worried sick about you." Twilight said softly, trying to be gentle with her words.
"No..." The colt replied, curling his hoof around the gem, "No, she's not. She died a couple of years ago."
The ponies in the room shared a look of worry and sadness as they heard those words.
"What about your father?" Twilight asked, hoping to gain some ground, "Is he worried about you?"
"If he ever cared, he would've been there since I was born." The colt answered with a hint of anger in his words, "But, he wasn't. So, I doubt he cares."
Realizing that she was staring to lose the colt, Twilight quickly changed subjects. Using her magic, she retrieved the map and brought it between her and the colt.
"Are you familiar with pirates?" She asked, hoping to regain the colt's confidence.
"Actually, yeah." The colt replied, starting to calm down, "My home was near the harbour and I'd see all kinds of different ships and boats."
"Do you know who this map belonged to?"
"Captain Crimson Moonlight. I knew about him from hearing sailors telling tales about him. All though, it took me a while to realize that map was his."
Now they were getting somewhere, but it still left a few questions.
"How did you get it?" Twilight asked, looking at the map.
"I..." The colt began to say before pausing, "Burrowed it from someone."
The way the colt had spoken made Twilight believe he was lying. But, for the sake of earning his trust, she chose to go along with it.
"What's your name?" She asked, sitting next to him on the hospital bed.
"Surf Salt." The colt replied, looking back down at his neckless, "But, most just call me Surf."
"Pleased to meet you."
After Surf had introduced himself, the doctor approached Twilight with a slightly serious expression.
"Princess," he said respectfully, "may I have a word with you?"
"Of course." She said, getting off the bed and walking out of the room and into the hallway.
Once the doctor shut the door behind them, he looked through his charts.
"Is there something wrong?" Twilight asked, unsure of what the doctor wanted.
"Well," the doctor began, adjusting his glasses, "there is a slight problem. You see, since you found that young colt in a shipping crate, he's technically in Equestria illegally. By law, we are allowed to give him medical aid, but he can't stay here for long. And, even though he claims to have no parents or guardians, it is a likely possibility that he'll still be sent home within the next couple days. Now, I'm sure you already know all of this and I'm also sure you know there's nothing I can do to change what'll happen to him."
"Is it possible to find a suitable guardian for him?"
"I sent a letter to Foal Services last night. But, I'm not sure if they'll find anypony before Surf is deported back to his country."
Hearing all of this, Twilight began to think. On one side, Foal Services could find a good match for Surf Salt. But, it might take days, weeks, even months to find somepony. However, on the other side, having Surf being sent back without anypony to care for him didn't sound appealing at all either. But then, an idea entered Twilight's mind. One that could avoid and solve both problems for a while.
"What If I became his guardian?" Twilight asked, rubbing her chin, "For a temporary time, I mean."
The doctor was silent for a moment as he began to think. But then, after a while, he agreed.
"Well, given the circumstances, we can release him to you as long as Foal Services are aware. Plus, I believe no one there will argue over the fact that you are taking care of him for now. I'll have our front desk draw up the papers." He said, turning to leave, "You can sign them on your way out."
"Alright then." Twilight grinned, "Thank you, doctor."
The group left with Surf Salt and made their way to the castle while Twilight carried the map under one of her wings. The young colt, now wearing his mother's neckless and saddlebag, looked around at the small town. In a way, he felt very out of place. But, since he was from a coastal village, it was a given.
"Where's the nearest ocean?" The young colt asked, seeing only mountains and hills in every direction.
"About a hundred and ten miles from here, darling." Rarity replied, "Manehatten has the biggest seaport in Equestria. Why do you ask?"
"It's just... Well, I'm more used to waves crashing on a beach, enchanting blue ocean as far as the eye can see, and the moonlight dancing across the water at night. Here, I just see hills, greenery, and land in every direction. Don't get me wrong, it's nice. But, I was born and raised with the ocean."
"I see."
Shortly after, they reached the castle and went inside. They returned to the library where they found Starlight and Spike reading separately.
"Hey, you two." Twilight said, causing the pair to look up from their books and greet her with grins, "How's it coming?"
"Well," Starlight replied first, "We've got good new and bad news. The good news is we figured out how the Ocean's Soul came to be."
"And the bad news?"
"The island on the map doesn't exist anywhere." Spike said, holding his book which was an atlas, "We checked the globe and every atlas we have, but that island can't be found anywhere."
"Okay, that's a problem."
Realizing that their chance to find the Ocean's Soul may be stopped before it can begin, Twilight began to think. The map only showed the island and some landmarks that could help identify it. But, what good were they if the island wasn't there to begin with. Then they heard Surf speak again.
"I think you're forgetting something." He said, taking the map from Twilight and opening it, "This is a pirate's treasure map that belonged to one of the greatest pirates in history. If I were him, I'd hide everything on an island that I would only know about. Plus, I'd want a way to find it if I forgot."
He turned the map and found a group of stars on the back as well as another riddle that read; To where the angels shine is where you'll find the arrow's line.
"What it means by that is," Surf began to explain, "if you find this exact group of stars, they'll point you directly to the island."
He inspected the group of stars carefully, before looking around at the library.
"Do you have a star map anywhere?" He asked, receiving a nod from Twilight as a book floated over to them and opening it, "Thank you. Now, if the stars here are correct..."
He looked at the globe in the room and saw the date on a calendar hanging on the wall.
"This constellation should be here." Surf said, pointing at a spot that was located in the middle of open ocean.
"How do you know all of this?" Rainbow Dash asked, looking at the spot, "I mean, that's pretty on the nose if you ask me. A little too on the nose."
"You learn a thing or two when you're around sailors long enough. Plus, I've read a few books on navigation."
The ponies exchanged glances before looking back at him.
"So, you can find that constellation?" Twilight asked, raising an eyebrow, "And understand that map?"
"Well," Surf replied, tapping a hoof, "I can understand some of it. The other messages and markings are a little harder to read. But, if you were planning on going to find the treasure, that constellation is a good start."
"Well, I'll admit, a little adventure would be nice. But, I'm afraid it would be too dangerous for a colt like you. Plus, I doubt that treasure will be going anywhere soon."
"Yeah... About that..."
Twilight looked down at the colt as he wore a nervous grin, causing her to think something wasn't right. In which case, she was correct.
"I, um..." Surf stammered, rubbing the back of his head, "May have lied when I said I borrowed that map..."
"Oh, then where did you get it?" She asked, almost unprepared for the answer.
"I may have stolen it from Sharp Edge. Most know him as the Master of Blades."
Immediately, the room went very silent as the group stared at the colt in bewilderment. No one moved as the name rolled through their minds. And his reputation was enough to make even Rainbow Dash shiver a little. And that was enough to make her next action understandable.
"YOU STOLE IT FROM SHARP EDGE?!"

Okay, it took me a little longer than I wanted to get this chapter together. But, I think I got it. Part of me thinks I could've done it better, but I'm not really sure about that.

Chapter 3: Start The Clock
"Okay, okay." Rainbow Dash said, holding her forehead, "Could you tell us why you thought it was a good idea to steal from Sharp Edge? Because no one in their right mind would do that."
"I did it under pressure from two things." Surf replied, burying his face in his hooves, "I was pressured into it because of some other foals. Plus, I was living on the streets and was desperate. I saw an opportunity and took it, hoping no one saw me."
"Did anyone see you?"
The colt went silent as he remembered seeing a large stallion enter the room and spotted him. He knew he was very lucky to escape, but that didn't necessarily mean he was safe.
"Well... yeah." Surf replied in defeat, rubbing one of his hind legs with the other hoof and looking down, "I was spotted just as I was leaving through an open window I had come in. I managed to lose him and stowed away on a ship. The rest you know."
The room fell silent again as they all thought. Now fully aware that they had a thief, a foolish one at that, in their presence, the group were left with the question of what to do next. However, a few factors played into their next action. On one side, they weren't sure if Sharp Edge was aware of the colt's location. And, if he was, would he go to the trouble of tracking the colt? On another side, the chance to find a recover a long lost treasure from a famous pirate did sound appealing. But, that also left the fact that they'd have to use a stolen map and might have to bring Surf Salt along to help understand it. And, it could be dangerous.
"Girls," Twilight announced, "group meeting in the throne room. Spike, stay here with Surf."
"Okay." Spike replied as the others left.
Once they entered the throne room, they closed the door and took their seats, except for Starlight.
"So, what's the plan here?" Applejack asked, looking at the purple alicorn, "From where I'm sittin' we've only got two options."
"What?" Rainbow Dash commented sounding slightly worried, "Stay here and hope Sharp Edge doesn't come here, or go out there and find a gem powerful enough to control the sea? Both choices are pretty bad."
"Even so, Dash," Twilight said, looking over the map she still had in her possession, "we have to make a choice."
"But, it's Sharp Edge. No one's crazy enough to challenge him."
All eyes turned to the cyan pegasus, slightly confused about her current behavior. It was rare to see Rainbow Dash scared of something. But, they never thought she'd be scared of another pony.
"He's only a stallion, Rainbow." Rarity said, playing with her own mane, "I'm sure his reputation isn't as bad as most think."
"He's a unicorn stallion that can wield a hundred blades at once." Rainbow Dash protested, tapping her hoof on the table-map, "Not to mention, he's very coordinated and talented in magic."
"How would you all that? Have you ever met him?"
"Well... Uh... Well, no. But, I've heard enough to know that he's not someone to get upset. So, here's my thought, why not wait for him to come here and we give him the map and the jewels. That might smooth things-"
Thump!
Rainbow Dash stopped as she heard a hoof hit the arm of a throne. Everyone looked at Twilight and saw that she wasn't interested in that idea.
"First of all," Twilight began, "we can't do that. The reason is because there's no guarantee that he's coming here or that he'll be grateful if he does. Plus, if he does get the Ocean's Soul, he'll be able to control every ocean in the world. And if that happens, there's a good chance of him using it to bend the world to his will. How Captain Moonlight managed to get something so powerful, I'm not sure. But, one thing is certain; that gem is way too powerful and dangerous for one pony to handle."
There was a slight pause in the room, which made them somewhat anxious.
"So, what's the plan then?" Applejack asked, breaking the silence.
"We go and find it." Twilight replied, looking around the table at her friends, "We find it before Sharp Edge and make sure that it's given proper protection. It would be safer under watchful eyes. But, before we do, Starlight, would you please tell us of the gem's origin."
Stepping forward, the unicorn mare stood next to Twilight's throne, clearing her throat.
"Well," Starlight began, "it's more of a legend than actual fact, but it should shine some light."
Her horn lit up and a large projection appeared above the table-map.
In the beginning, there was only the land, the ocean, the stars, the sun, and the moon. The universe had a certain magic with untold amounts of power. But, what good were all of these without someone to see and enjoy them?
Combining their magic, new life began to take shape. The sun gave warmth to their creations. The moon offered shade for rest. The stars provided wonder and hope. The land presented beauty and strength. And the ocean sacrificed her soul to give the creations life.
However, in doing so, the ocean had surrendered her own life and was bond to their creations. Never to be free.
As time passed, the others began to change and lose their magic. The sun and moon began to lose control of when to rise and set. The land had difficulty keeping up his strength to grow enough food for the creatures. The stars dimmed as the ages passed. But, the ocean remained as she was, unchanged and, as time continued, unable to speak with her friends.
Soon after, she found herself alone. None of the others spoke to her, nor could they hear her. And so, out of sadness, she fashioned a gem that she hid and transferred her life force into it. But, her magic remains strong.
The projection ended as Starlight finished her story.
"So, does that mean we're connected to the ocean?" Rainbow Dash asked, trying to understand.
"Not necessarily." Starlight replied, "Think of it as a spark to a fire. Once the spark starts fire, it can be stable by itself. The Oceans energy, according to the legend, is what helped start life. But, it's still powerful on it's own. So, if Sharp Edge is trying to find the gem, I doubt he's able to control the free will of ponies with it. However, it still begs the question of what he wants with it? From what I've heard, he's a little out of control, but not so far as to rule the world."
"It's best if we didn't take any chances." Twilight said, adding her input on the subject, "Going back to what I said before, we don't know what he's planning. But, if he is after it, then we have to find it first. Plus, with Surf's knowledge of navigation on the ocean, we might have a chance."
The room fell quiet as they thought of the best course of action.
"Then we're gonna need a ship." Applejack said, breaking the silence, "Probably somethin' fast."
"I could talk to Princess Celestia and request an airship from her." Twilight replied, "I'm sure there's something fast in the Royal Aerial Fleet."
"An airship's not going to cut it." A voice said from the door.
Everypony turned and saw Surf standing at the door with Spike behind him. The expression on his face showed determination and certainty.
"In Captain Moonlights time," Surf Salt began, "airships didn't exist. The only way of travel was wooden ships that used sails to catch the wind. Of course, everyone already knows this. What everyone doesn't know is it was easier to navigate on the water, because of certain landmarks that could only be found at sea level. Pegasi and griffin pirates had the advantage of surprising others from the air, that much is true. However, getting to a secret spot and finding treasure was difficult, because the clues they had couldn't be found in the air. So, I say a watercraft is needed for this. Preferably, something that can carry heavy loads, but can move much faster than a ship with sails. A steamship might be your best bet, Princess."
Looking around the room, the colt could see that his input on the task ahead was somewhat bewildering and odd.
"How do you know so much about pirates?" Rainbow asked, tilting her head slightly.
"Books, sailors, old legends told by ponies around a fire." Surf replied, shrugging and smiling, "Stuff like that."
"Uh-huh. Okay."
Pushing past the conversation, Twilight spoke up.
"Very well, I'll ask Princess Celestia for a ship from the navy then." She said, retrieving a quill and paper.
"You're better off hiring someone who isn't military." Surf said, adding more input, "For two reasons. First, there's a good chance that the military officer in charge won't follow the proper route and go somewhere that is completely off course. And second, navy ships may attract too much attention. The cannons and flag are very big giveaways, along with the fact that it'll most likely be in naval colours. A civilian ship, however, can go undetected."
Taking a breathe and sighing, Twilight turned and looking back at the colt.
"Alright," Twilight sighed, "I assume you know where to find a ship also?"
"Actually, yeah, I do." Surf replied, "Just go to any tavern, bar, or pub near a seaport or harbour. There's bound to be a captain willing to help for the right price. But, start with the ship. Find the ship, talk to the crew, and they'll tell you where to find the captain."
"You thought this out, didn't you?"
"More or less."

Hey, everyone.
Ok, this chapter was a headache to put together. I wanted to make it longer, but kept hitting too many roadblocks. So, I had to make it shorter than I had hoped. Anyway, I hope it still works and makes sense to some of you. I'll try better next chapter.
The Lost Treasure Of Captain Moonlight
The morning sun peeked over the horizon, painting the sky a beautiful orange. The air was cool and tiny wisps of clouds hung in the air. A perfect morning for anypony who started the day early.
At least, a perfect morning to anypony who liked seeing the sun rise over a hill. However, for Surf Salt, it didn't match up to the glimmering ripples on the water as the sun rose over the ocean.
It was the day after and he was already wide awake and ready to get a start to the day. But, Surf was the only one to rise before the sun. So, he decided to wait for the others and watch the sun from the balcony.
"On your hooves, sailor!" A voice burst out, causing the colt to nearly jump out of his skin.
Falling over from being startled, Surf looked at where the voice had come from and saw Spike with a big grin on his face. The dragon then started to chuckle as he approached the colt and held out one of his claws to help Surf up.
"I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist." Spike smiled, pulling Surf up to his hooves, "It just seemed way too quiet this morning. Plus, I figured you might've wanted to hear something familiar."
"Well, I'll admit, you got me." Surf replied, smiling back, "And you're kind of right, that is familiar, but I've never had it directed at me before."
The two of them shared a laugh as Twilight walked onto the balcony.
"Good morning you two." Twilight greeted, "What's so funny?"
"Spike startled me, but we're good." Surf replied, "Just a practical joke."
Twilight looked between the both of them and smiled. It made her happy to see that Surf and Spike were getting along. But, today was a big day for them. Today was the day they were going to the seaport and hiring a ship.
"So, since you believe a steamship is our best option," Twilight began, looking at Surf, "I suppose you know what we might be in for, right?"
"Actually, no." Surf countered, "Out on the ocean, there's a large number of things that could surprise you. Sea monsters, storms, massive waves, and other stuff. I only said a steamship because they're big, sturdy, and reliable. For example; the Riptide Class steamship, the Thunder Hoof survived five hurricanes and one monster attack. Now, that's a tough ship."
Twilight raised an eyebrow at the colt as he told her what he knew. In a way, it sounded promising, but she wasn't fully convinced.
"Five hurricanes and one monster, huh?" She said, skeptical of the information about a ship she had never heard of.
"Yep." Surf grinned, "Steamships are the armoured beasts of the sea. Almost nothing can beat them."
"What can?"
"A heavily armed ship with large cannons and icebergs. But, where we're going, icebergs won't be a problem. Can't say the same for other ships though. However, the ocean is pretty big. With luck, we won't meet a modern battlecruiser that's under pirate control. Now those are something to fear. I've seen one up close and the shells they use are bigger than you, Princess!"
Twilight showed little interest after hearing about such a thing. She didn't know a lot about ships, but she was having difficulty believing a projectile that size existed. Unless it was made by magic.
"Uh huh. Okay." Twilight said in a casual tone, "Well, you should come in for some breakfast then we'll pack while we wait for the girls."
"I'm not coming too?" Spike asked, almost sounding left out, "I thought I was."
"I need you and Starlight here to take care of things while I'm away. Don't worry though, we'll probably be back in a week or two. And, I'll bring back some treasure for you, if you like. I'm sure Captain Moonlight wouldn't mind if a few gems became snacks."
Spike smiled a bit while hearing Twilight's plan for him. Surf, meanwhile, went inside, followed by Twilight and Spike shortly after.
About three hours had past and everypony who was going met at the castle.
"We'll be back before you know it." Twilight said, giving Starlight and Spike a hug, "With luck, we'll have the Ocean's Soul with us."
"Good luck and be safe." Starlight replied, "We'll do our best to take care of things here."
"I know you both will."
With that, Twilight and the rest of them made their way to the train station. Surf Salt, however, remained oddly quiet as they walked. In a way, it made Twilight wonder why, but given the task ahead, she believed that it was because he was somewhat scared. So, deciding not to openly say anything, Twilight extended a wing and draped it over the colt, causing him to look up at her in confusion. However, his confusion turned to understanding when he saw her expression and the message it carried.
WOOO!!! WOOOO!!!
"Last call for the train to Manehatten!" The conductor called as they arrived at the station, "Last call for Manhatten! All aboard!"
Quickly they got aboard and took their seats. Then they felt the train lurch forward as it began to roll away from the platform.
"I've never been on a train before." Surf said, looking out the window as trees, hills, and greenery raced by, "It's nice."
"But, ya still love the ocean, huh?" Applejack asked, looking over the seat at him.
"Always have and always will."
Twilight looked over at Rainbow Dash, who sat by herself across the aisle. Twilight also remembered that Rainbow Dash had not said a single word since they left the castle. Which was very odd for someone like her. And worrisome.
"Hey." Twilight said, getting out of her seat and moving to sit with Rainbow Dash, "Are you okay?"
"This is a bad idea, Twilight." Rainbow replied in a low whisper, looking her in the eye, "Other than the fact we're basically racing Sharp Edge to a mythical and powerful gem, there's something wrong here. You can scold me if you want, but I think Surf isn't telling us something important. I don't trust him."
Quickly, Twilight looked other at Surf and noticed he was caught in a conversation with Applejack and Rarity.
"I'll admit, I'm not fully convinced either, Rainbow." Twilight whispered, looking back at the cyan pegasus, "But, if it worries you so much, why did you agree to come along? I've never seen you like this before and it's making me nervous."
"Come on, Twilight." Rainbow replied, "You know me. I'm loyal to the ones I care about. Plus, did you actually think I was going to pass up a chance to go hunting for pirate treasure? But, all I'm saying is that we should be very cautious. Surf's hiding something and doesn't want anyone to know about it. To me, that's hazardous."
"I get it, Rainbow. But, for now, just go along with it until we know for sure. Okay?"
"Fine."
For the rest of the ride, the ponies talked amongst themselves and avoiding too much attention. Soon, the city of Manehatten came into view and the train slowed it's approach. As they got closer, Surf focused his attention towards the harbour and saw various sized vessels and watercraft moving through the water or anchored.
"See one we could use?" Twilight asked, looking over Surf's shoulder.
"Not from here." Surf replied, scanning the boats and ships, "Maybe there's one hidden among the larger ships. We don't need anything too big, just big enough."
Shortly after, they arrived at the station and exited the train. The city was busy with ponies and noise filled the air. Twilight expected Surf to be overwhelmed by the onslaught of things happening. However, the colt beside her didn't show any signs of being concerned. Instead, he had the expression of determination as they moved their way through the crowd and into the open. Quickly they made their way to the harbour.
"So," Rarity said, looking around at the vessels, "are we looking for anything in particular? A luxury cruiser? Or, perhaps, something with a fresh coat of paint, polish, elegant living quarters, and a spa?"
"Actually, something like that one will do nicely." Surf said, pointing at a ship.
The group stopped to look at what he had found and were mildly surprised by what they saw.
The vessel's hull was grey with a black stripe around the bow and stern. The wheelhouse and living quarters were balanced in the center. While a large black and red smokestack stood vertically above them. On the bow and stern, three long poles on each end jutted out from the ship and into the air. The center poles stood vertically, while the others angled away from each other and held ropes and pulleys. Rust, faded paint, and grime covered certain places along the ship, making it appear to be very rundown and questionable.
"Sea Master. " Surf said confidently, causing a grin to cross his muzzle, "Oh yes, this'll do perfectly."
However, his confidence wasn't shared among the group. To them, the ship was nothing more than a wreck that hadn't sunk yet.
"Are you sure?" Twilight asked, stepping next to Surf, "It doesn't look very promising to me."
"Never judge a ship by its rust." A voice said, causing everyone to look.
They watched as a gruff dark grey earth pony stallion with a silver mane, beard, and tail approach them. His cutie mark was a helm that appeared to be slightly damaged. He wore a black coat with silver buttons and a captain's hat with an anchor stitched above the brim. On the chest of the jacket, they saw a gold helm with a ribbon shaped pin.
"Oh, is this your boat?" Twilight asked, pointing at the vessel, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean any disrespect."
"Ah, no need for an apology." The stallion grinned, extending a hoof, "You're not the first. Name's Black Helm. And, if I'm not mistaken, you're Princess Twilight. Pleased to meet you."
They shook hooves, before continuing with introductions.
"Nice to meet you too, Captain." Twilight said, "This is Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and Surf Salt."
"Charmed." Black Helm greeted, "Now, is there something I could help you ponies with?"
Without warning, Surf scooted between Twilight and the captain.
"We'd like to hire your ship." Surf said with some excitement.
The stallion looked down at the colt and also saw the neckless he was wearing. Appearing to show interest, the captain lowered himself to Surf's level.
"A fine bit of jewelry you're wearing, lad." Black Helm said, gesturing to the neckless, "A gift?"
Surf looked down at the heart gem and nodded.
"It's from my mother." Surf said, lowering his gaze slightly, "It was hers..."
"Oh, sorry, lad." Black Helm replied, placing a hoof on the colt's shoulder, "I'm sure she was a very caring mare."
Surf nodded again as Black Helm rose up to a normal stance.
"I'll make my ship available to you, Princess." The captain said, giving a smile.
"Oh, you don't have to." Twilight replied respectfully, "I'm sure you're busy and probably don't have time for us."
"Nonsense. I insist. As it turns out, we're currently in between shipments for the next three weeks. So, please, allow my crew to bring your things aboard. Lads!"
As if on cue, five big stallions standing nearby picked up the groups bags and carried them up a ramp and onboard the Sea Master.
"Don't be worried, Princess. Like I said before; never judge a ship by its rust." Black Helm grinned, leading the group up the ramp, "Welcome aboard and make yourselves at home. Lads, we haul anchor in half an hour! Get the engines ready!"
The group followed the captain as he lead them through a door towards their cabins.

Ok, so I had a bit of a problem with this chapter. My problem was that I had lost the last quarter of this chapter and had to rewrite it. So, if it doesn't sound as good as it should be, that's because I had trouble remembering what I had written. But, it's there and done with.

The Lost Treasure Of Captain Moonlight
"P-Please, don't hurt me!" A stallion said, backing towards a wall, "I-I don't know anything!"
"Don't lie to me!" Another replied, approaching the first, "Otherwise, you'll face the same thing your crew went through."
The first stallion looked around the deck of the airship and saw his crew beaten and bruised. Some were so badly hurt, it almost appeared that they wouldn't walk properly again. There were other ponies aboard his ship, but they weren't familiar to him. All of which looked intimidating and fierce. Even the mares of the group appeared dangerous.
"I'll ask again and I'll even spell it out for you." The stallion standing over the first sneered, "Where. Is. The. Crate?"
"I-I don't know what crate you're talking about." The victim (who was obviously the captain) whimpered, keeping low to the ground, "W-We've hauled so many recently and to many different places. I-I can look through our records for the crate number. It might help."
The brutish stallion towered over the ship's captain and grinned.
"See, that wasn't so hard." He sneered, raising an eyebrow and allowing the captain to stand, "I hope, for your sake, we can find it and leave without causing anymore...complications."
Quickly, the captain raced to his cabin and retrieved a thick book. He opened it and looked back at the group of menacing ponies.
"Um, w-what's the number?" The captain asked, flipping pages to the most recent entries.
"Zero, one, five, three, three." Another stallion replied, approaching the captain, "I saw it."
The captain flipped and scanned pages, until finally, he found the entry he was looking for. However, the crate's cargo, listed next to the number, confused the captain.
"Why do you want a crate of fabric?" The captain asked, looking at the book.
"That's none of your business!" The brute warned, grabbing the captain, "Where is it?!"
"Now, now, Hammer." A voice said in a casual, but smooth tone, "Is that any way to treat a captain aboard his own ship? He is being gracious enough to share this information with us, so he should at least know why. Would you agree?"
"Yes, sir. Apologies, Captain."
The captain turned around to see who the mystery voice belonged to. And he instantly regretted looking.
"Allow me to introduce myself." The blood red unicorn with a black mane and tail said, "I am Sharp Edge, Master of Blades, infamous crime lord, and leader of the Blood Crime Syndicate. As for why we want the crate, let's say that's something else entirely. You see, a few days ago, some valuables of mine were stolen from me and the thief was spotted boarding your ship and hiding in that crate. That is why we're here, Captain."
"I-I see." The captain gulped, sweat running down his face, "W-well the crate you want was delivered to Canterlot, where it should've been taken to Ponyville. That was almost six days ago."
Sharp Edge rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
"I would assume it was for the Carousel Boutique, correct?" He asked looking the nervous stallion in the eye.
"I...er....I wouldn't know, sir." The captain replied, feeling the cold stare, "My crew and I just haul it to where we're told it has to be. The address was on the crate itself. All I have in my logbook is numbers, what is in the containers, and which cities to deliver to."
"I see. Well, in that case, we no longer require your services."
With that Sharp Edge turned and motioned for his gang to leave the ship. They obeyed his silent command and quickly made their way off the ship and onto the landing dock. However, Sharp Edge remained aboard for another moment longer.
"I know you think I'm a monster because of my reputation, Captain." The stallion said, his back turned to the captain, "But, rest assured, I'm nothing of the sort. In fact, I'm just a stallion who will do what he must to insure success. Much like yourself, I imagine. So, I'll give you a choice. Work for me or we go our separate ways and you stay quiet about this little encounter. You have the right to choose freely and I won't hold you against your choice either. After all, I did just say that your services weren't required."
The captain looked at the blood red unicorn then at his battered crew. But, since he was a pony with standards, the choice was almost perfectly clear to him. He just hoped he had the courage to say it.
"W-well, sir," the captain stammered, trying to regain his nerves, "as respectful as your offer is, I think it would be best if we just went our own ways. Besides, I don't think you'd want an old air captain and his rusty airship weighing you down. It could be expensive in the long run."
"I see. Well, I'll just leave you all to the rest of your lives then. My apologies again for my crew's behaviour."
"No need. All is forgiven."
With that, Sharp Edge made his way of the airship and onto his own. Once aboard his ship, the gangplank retracted and the lines holding the two ships together were released. Sharp Edge himself walked along the deck of his ship and watched the other ship pull away.
"Sir, I still don't fully understand why you want that old treasure map back." Hammer said, standing beside his leader, "I mean, you're one of the richest ponies in the world. Why would you want some pirate treasure that is worth less than what you have?"
"Hammer, my loyal friend," Sharp Edge chuckled, shaking his head slightly, "there are a few reasons. But, there's more to that treasure than silver and gold."
The ships drifted further apart as they talked. But, after a moment, Sharp Edge looked to one side and nodded at a mare standing next to a cannon.
"Fire!" She called, bucking the cannon.
BOOM!!!
BLAM!!!
BANG!!!
Cannons flashed as they shot towards the second airship. Fire covered the deck, the sound of ponies crying out filled the air, and the side was peppered with large holes. Soon, the ship began to sink as the balloon holding it suffered from rips caused by flying debris. Shortly after, it disappeared below the clouds and towards the ground.
"Should've taken my offer, Captain." Sharp Edge said quietly, before turning to Hammer, "Get us to the Carousel Boutique in Ponyville, find that colt, and get my map back."
"Right away, sir." Hammer replied as Sharp Edge walked by him and retreated to his cabin.

Well, here he is, the villain of the story. It was interesting when I first that of him. In reality, I was planning on having him as a messed up ex-convict or something like that. But, then I thought of Negan from The Walking Dead and decided to kinda model Sharp Edge off of that with some differences. In my opinion, it looks like it works. But, it might be different for you.

Chapter 7: The Journal's Memories
"In here." Black Helm said, entering his quarters, "I may have something that might interest you."
Twilight followed the captain inside and watched as he opened a drawer and took out an object wrapped in cloth.
"Behold, the only journal of Silver Spray." Black Helm said proudly, unwrapping the cloth and revealing the book, "One of the very few records relating to the Crystal Legend and Captain Moonlight."
The book appeared worn and damaged from age, but intact. Carefully, Black Helm let Twilight grasp it in her magic.
"That journal has been passed down through my family for generations." The captain explained, seeing the curiosity in Twilight's eyes as she slowly opened the book, "Silver Spray was my ancestor and once was part of Crimson Moonlight's crew. He was also the only survivor of the crew. Perhaps, his story may help you find what you're looking for."
"Why are you so willing to let me see this?" Twilight asked with some suspicion, "When I mentioned what we were looking for, your interest in us suddenly rose and it's making me slightly uncomfortable. Don't take this the wrong way, Captain, but I'm concerned you may try something against us when the treasure is found."
"Then I'll be very blunt here. I've also been looking for that treasure for years. When the end came and my ancestor was faced against life and death, he chose to save himself. However, he never got his fair share of the treasure he was promised. By rights, some of that treasure should've been given to him and passed down through my family. But it wasn't, so I've been trying to collect it in his place."
Twilight looked the captain in his eyes, trying to see if he was telling the truth.
"I'm not greedy, Princess." Black Helm continued, "All I ask is that me and my crew get a fair share and that we can cooperate with each other. Nothing more. And you can keep the Ocean's Soul. Even though something that powerful shouldn't be in anyone's possession."
"Why do you say that?" Twilight asked, cocking her head to one side.
"Read the book. It explains why. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to make my rounds and see how everyone is holding up. It's going to be a long voyage."
With that, Black Helm exited the small room, leaving Twilight alone with the book. Opening to the first entry, Twilight began to read and visualize the world through Silver Spray's words.
August 12, 754 A.L.
This is the day I finally become the stallion I aspire to be. To live on the ocean and breathe the sea air as we venture to far away places. If only my father were here to see such an endeavor and achievement. I fear, however, my rash and hasty actions may have torn a rift between him and I. He is my father and I love him dearly, but I am no farmer. I may have been born on land, but my heart belongs to the blue waters of the vast ocean.
Our captain is a stallion I hope to be inspired by and prove that I am worthy to be a part of his crew. Although, he is a stallion I respect and fear as well. This is for many reasons. However, I dare not pry on such a thing. I have seen enough already to convince myself to join his crew. And here I shall remain.
Our ship is one of pure majesty and strength. A Mare O' War I believe they call it. Cannons lined both sides of the massive vessel. Masts as tall as a full grown dragon with large grey sails. It is an astonishing sight to see. The name even has a certain respect woven into it. The "Crystal Legend" is perhaps the most beautiful ship I've ever seen.
When I arrived today, the ship appeared to be under repair. Upon what I saw, the damage looked very similar to cannonballs. This did not sway me, however. I know the risks and I feel confident in myself that I can conquer such things.
Twilight closed the book and wrapped it in the cloth again. As she was setting it on the captain's bed, Twilight looked over at the nightstand beside the bed and saw a framed photo. In the picture, Twilight saw Black Helm at a younger age standing next to a young blue unicorn mare who appeared to be the same age. But, something about the unicorn in the picture seemed odd to Twilight. It was hard to make out, but it looked like the mare was wearing a neckless with a heart shaped gem attached to the chain.
Twilight picked up the picture to look closer and noticed something interesting. The neckless looked identical to the neckless Surf Salt was wearing. The same neckless that belonged to his mother.
"Ahem!" A voice coughed from the door, "Find something?"
Twilight turned and saw Black Helm standing in the doorway.
"I thought you were still doing your rounds." Twilight said, eyes fixed on the captain.
"It's not a very big ship, Princess." Black Helm replied, entering the room and approaching Twilight, who was still holding the photo in her magic.
Black Helm carefully took the picture out of her magic and placed it back on the nightstand. Twilight watched as he stood there, looking over the old photo.
"That neckless she's wearing," Twilight began to say, "I've seen it before. Surf wears it around his neck. He told us that it belonged to his mother, before she died. Is that her in that picture?"
"Yes." Black Helm replied in a sad tone, "This was taken on our honeymoon. I bought her that neckless a little while before the picture was taken. About the same time she bought me this pin I have on my jacket."
"Then that means, Surf is your son. But, he always said his father ran out before he was born? If that's true, then why?"
Black Helm turned towards the princess and wore a pained and frustrated expression.
"Do you have a family, Princess?" Black Helm asked sternly, "I mean a husband and children?"
"No," Twilight replied, recoiling slightly by the odd question, "I don't."
"Then you'll never understand how far I had to go in order to protect my family. Making deals with demons and monsters just so they don't come and take the thing you value most. I might not look the part, but I can assure you, I'm not proud of myself for leaving them in that place. And I'm definitely not happy to hear from my son that my wife is dead and have him think that his father never loved him. But, I made a deal that if I left and never came back, then they could live peacefully and wouldn't be harmed. I even have the scar to prove it."
Finishing his explanation, Black Helm undid the top buttons of his jacket and opened it, revealing an oddly shaped scar. It looked more like a burnt brand mark on his chest, but it had the same signs as a large cut.
"S.E." Black Helm said sharply, keeping his voice low, "You know who that is, don't you?"
It took a moment for Twilight to piece together the mark. But, before she could say, Black Helm answered for her.
"Sharp Edge did that to me with a hot knife." The captain seethed, closing his jacket, "He did that to me and made my pregnant wife watch with a blade resting on her stomach, right where my unborn child was. He gave me a choice to have my family killed and kill me after. Or, be exiled and keep my family as insurance that I never came back. I chose to leave, because I saw no other way to ensure their safety. And all that was because I refused to rob a cargo freighter. I guess I should've known better before I decided to work for a cutthroat tyrant."
Twilight stared at the captain, awestruck by his story.
"I'm truly sorry." Twilight said quietly, "I didn't mean to upset you."
"You wanted to know why, now you know." Black Helm replied, turning away from her, "Now, if you please, leave my quarters. I trust you've already found your quarters with your friends earlier. And, if you need anything, you can find Mr. Horizon in the wheelhouse, along with my first mate Star Shot. He runs the ship during the night."
Twilight made her way to the door and stepped out of the room.
Eeek! *click!*
She closed the door and began walking down the hall. But, as she walked, she heard the sound of muffled crying coming from behind her. It only took her a second to realize who the sounds belonged to, but she just kept moving until she reached her room and crawled into bed.

The Lost Treasure Of Captain Moonlight
"Land it over there, Cut." Sharp Edge ordered, pointing to an open meadow just outside of Ponyville.
It was early morning when Sharp Edge and his crew reached Ponyville. From what they saw from the air, most of the small town seemed fairly quiet. The sun had just peeked over the horizon as the black airship lowered to the ground.
"Hammer, Ace, Fire, you're with me." Sharp Edge said as a ramp was extended to the ground, "The rest of you remain here and keep the engines warm, I want to be gone as soon as the map is found."
Leading his small group, Sharp Edge made his way down the ramp and into Ponyville.
As they passed the first couple buildings, the group saw that several ponies had begun their day. However, as they walked further along the street, some of the ponies seemed to show signs of unease and went back inside. Perhaps they recognized Sharp Edge and had heard of his reputation. Or, it could've been the weapons each member carried.
The most obvious were Hammer and Sharp Edge.
Sharp Edge, himself, carried a sinister looking dagger with black and silver trimming in its sheath, attached to his belt. Hammer, for obvious reasons, had a large hammer with two spikes on one side, resting on his back. Ace, a dark green unicorn mare with a blonde mane and tail, shuffled some strange playing cards in her magic. And Fire, a white pegasus mare with a flaming red mane and tail, wore an odd collection of small bottles with rags in them and a strange canister with a hose and valve on her back.
After a short time, they saw the Carousel Boutique come into view. But, as they got closer to it, the building appeared to be empty of ponies. The curtains were pulled closed and the door was locked.
BANG, BANG, BANG!!!
"Open up!" Hammer called, pounding on the door, "Open the door, or we'll open it for you!"
"Hammer, how many times do I have to say it?" Sharp Edge said smoothly, "You do not always get want you want by force. You have to do it with..."
"...patience and respect. Sorry, boss."
"Besides, it looks like no one's here. Ace, ask the neighbors, maybe they'll know something. We'll be waiting here."
Ace, who appeared bored, put her cards in a pocket of her jacket and started walking towards the nearest house. Once she reached the house, she knocked on the door and waited. Shortly after, a mare with a green mane opened the door.
"Hey." Ace said in a bored and unimpressed tone, "Lookin' for the pony who runs that dress shop over there. Know where they are?"
"You mean Rarity?" The mare asked looking over at the Boutique and seeing the other members.
"Yeah sure, whatever."
"Well, uh, she left with her friends a day or so ago. I'm not sure where she went or when she'll be back."
"Uh-huh, okay."
With that, Ace turned away without saying farewell and went back to the group.
"Left about a day or so ago with her friends, not sure where." Ace said, taking a stick of gum out of her jacket pocket along with her cards, "Not sure if that helps."
"Actually, Ace, it does." Sharp Edge replied with a grin, "Because I know where to go next."
Without saying anything, he began to walk away from the Boutique, followed by his gang. But, now it was later in the morning and the whole town was awake. By now, the group's presence was known. And it didn't take long for many ponies to quickly retreat back into their homes.
It didn't take long for them to reach their destination. Which, they soon found out, was the half tree and half crystal castle that stood tall over the small town.
Knock, knock, knock!
Sharp Edge knocked on the doors and waited patiently for a response. After a moment, a slot on one of the large doors slid open and revealed a pair of dragon eyes looking out at them.
"Can I help you?" A voice said from the other side.
"Yes, we were wondering if we could find Princess Twilight." Sharp Edge said politely, "We have something important to discuss."
Spike scanned each of the ponies he saw and immediately knew they meant trouble. Bigger trouble than he could handle by himself. Then from behind him, Spike heard hooves approaching.
"Who is it Spike?" A voice asked, "Someone here to see me?"
Spike turned around and was surprised by what he saw.
"What are you-" Spike stammered, before Twilight covered his mouth with her hoof.
"Is there someone here to see me ?" She repeated, adding a wink.
Then Spike noticed something odd about Twilight. Her eye colour was different. It was brighter. Then Spike understood what was happening.
"Er, yeah, Twilight." Spike said, winking back at the fake princess, "Should I let them in?"
"It would be rude not to, Spike." The fake Twilight said, taking a step back from the door.
Spike closed the slot and pulled the door open, allowing Sharp Edge and the others to enter.
"Welcome." Twilight said respectfully, extending her hoof out to greet them.
"Pleased to finally meet you, Princess Twilight." Sharp Edge replied, taking her hoof and kissing it, "I can't tell you how happy I am to speak with you. My name is Sharp Edge. Perhaps you've heard of me?"
"I've heard that name every now and then. But, the stories I've heard with it aren't very enjoyable. If you don't mind me saying, some refer to you as a monster."
Immediately after saying that, she saw Spike cringe slightly.
"Well, Princess," Sharp Edge grinned, "I can assure you I'm nothing of the sort. It's just hard times require hard work."
"I see." Twilight said, clearing her throat, "Now, I believe you wanted to speak with me about something?"
"Yes. We were hoping you might be able to help us find your friend Rarity. You see, she recently received a crate of fabric from Saddle Arabia, but there was something else in that crate. Some valuables of mine were mistakenly placed in it and we're trying to get them back."
"What sort of valuables?"
"Some family heirlooms and a map my mother gave me when I was a colt."
The fake Twilight paused and thought for a moment.
"Well, Rarity's in Manehatten and getting ready for a fashion show right now with our friends. I'll be joining them in a couple days. But, I was there when we opened the crate and didn't find anything other than the fabric."
"I see." Sharp Edge replied, rubbing his chin, "Then, in that case, I suppose we should be going. Thank you for your help, Princess."
Twilight nodded as Sharp Edge and his group left. Then after the door was closed behind them, Spike opened the slot and watched them get further away.
"Okay, they're gone." Spike sighed in relief.
The fake Twilight gasped and breathed heavily as she decompressed from the encounter. Then her horn lit up and her appearance changed.
"That was so stressful!" Starlight exclaimed, leveling her breathing, "And that spell isn't easy to hold either."
"Couldn't you have called Thorax for help?"
"You know how long it takes letters to travel. Plus, even if I could reach him, he wouldn't have gotten here in time."
"So now what? Do we get help?"
"We could, but who? This is possibly one of the most dangerous ponies in the world."
They paused as they thought about what to do.
"I could write to Princess Celestia." Spike said, remembering he could directly contact her, "Maybe ask if she could give us some guards?"
"That might work." Starlight replied, looking out one of the windows, "But, I don't think they'll be here quick enough. By the looks of it, Sharp Edge isn't going to be here much longer. We have to warn Twilight and the others about this too. Even though he saw Twilight here, I don't think he was completely convinced."
"How are we going to do that? We don't know where she is, or how to reach her."
"We don't know where, but the table map might. As for contacting her, can your fire do that?"
"No, it only works for Celestia."
Starlight thought for a bit, trying to find an alternative solution. Finally, she had one, but it wasn't going to be easy.
"Then we're going to have to reach her the old-fashioned way." Starlight said, rubbing her chin, "We'll need a ride."
Spike gave a grin as he remembered something useful.
"In that case," He said, leading Starlight to the throne room, "I know the best group for such a thing."
With that, they began preparing for their own journey.
Meanwhile, Sharp Edge and his group returned to their airship and began ascending into the air.
"So, what's the plan?" Ace asked, leaning against the railing, "Are we going to some fashion show?"
"No, Ace. Even though you need some colour." Sharp Edge grinned, heading towards his cabin, "You see, I know when I'm being lied to. And about half of what we were just told wasn't the truth."
"So, what are we doing then?"
"Well, if I know that colt correctly, I'd say they got aboard a boat and are at sea right now. All we need to know is which way they went. From there we'll find what we're looking for."
Sharp Edge was about to enter his cabin, when Hammer leaned in and spoke.
"What about the princess?" Hammer asked in a low tone, "She knows we're looking for her friend."
"No, she doesn't." Sharp Edge replied, moving passed the larger stallion, "Because that wasn't the princess."
"I don't understand."
"It's simple mirror magic, Hammer. The real princess is out there too. Who we saw was just somepony with a parlour trick. But, she made a big mistake."
"What would that be, boss?"
"Overplaying the role. Now, set a course for Manehatten harbour. Double time."
Hammer nodded and started directing the crew, while Sharp Edge went inside.
"You can run, Surf." Sharp Edge sneered to himself, "But, you can't hide."

I know it's been a while since the last chapter, but I was having difficulty trying to peace together a good chapter. Whether this was good or not, I'll leave that up to you. But, to me, I think it turned out better. Let me know what you thought, if you feel the need to say anything.

Chapter 9: Mourning On The Waves
The sun hid under the ocean as morning approached. The waves splashed gently against the hull of the Sea Master as it cruised across the water. The breeze was cool and filled with a salty scent. Perfectly peaceful and calm.
Black Helm stepped out from under the wheelhouse and made his way to the bow. Upon reaching the railing, he rested a hoof against it. His other hoof reached into his inner coat pocket and retrieved his pipe. It wasn't anything special, just a simple piece of oak with a helm carved into it. Carefully, he looked over the pipe as a memory entered his mind.
"Happy birthday, my brave sailor." A voice said sweetly as Black Helm laid peacefully in bed.
Slowly opening his eyes, he saw sunlight pouring into the room and a sky blue unicorn mare's face looking down at him. She had a warm smile and eyes as green as kelp waving in the current. Her hair was as blue as the ocean and draped down like a waterfall from her head and down her neck. To Black Helm, she was the sea in the form of a beautiful mare. And she was all his.
"Mmmm." He groaned, grinning back at the mare, "Hello, my ocean queen."
"Did you sleep well?" She asked, leaned down slightly.
"I did. Perhaps one of the best sleeps I've ever had. I even had a nice dream too."
"Oh, do tell. You know I love hearing about those."
"Well, I dreamt that you and I were living in a big house that sat near the edge of a small cliff. Nothing too big, but just enough to avoid high tide. The ocean reflected the sunset and sparkled grandly. And there you stood, overlooking the ocean with pride, looking as beautiful as the background."
The blue mare's smile grew slightly as she listened. It appeared that she truly enjoyed hearing his thoughts and dreams.
"What about you?" Black Helm asked, looking up at her, "Did you have any dreams?"
"Kind of." She replied, leaning in closer, "But it was more of a prediction than a dream."
"And what did you predict?"
"This."
Lowering herself further, her lips met his and melted into a passionate kiss. They held it for a moment before separating.
"What do you think?" She asked, pulling away slightly.
"Not bad." Black Helm replied as his grin grew devious, "But, I think it could be better."
Without warning, he quickly reached up and wrapped his hooves around her, pulling her onto the bed with him. The sudden act caused her to squeak with surprise and joy as she felt his strength. In an instant, she lay on top of him with the blanket separating both of them. They melted into another deep kiss before releasing each other. She slid down slightly and rested her head on his chest, where she heard the sound of a steady and strong heartbeat.
"Black?" She said quietly, keeping her head on his chest.
"Yes, Blue." He replied, brushing her mane with his hoof.
"Do you think we'll ever live free?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, live away from corruption, poverty, all of this. Just leave and live quietly in a nice home with a happy family. Never having to work for beasts like Sharp Edge, struggling to make ends meet. And not live in a place where danger is almost anywhere."
Black Helm thought for a moment as he rolled her words in his mind. His eyes drifted around and looked at the room. It was small with some cracks in the walls. The window was cracked as well with the paint chipped from the frame. The door hung loose on the hinges and appeared damaged. The only nice object in the room was the bed. It wasn't brand new, but it was stable and free of damage.
"I think," Black Helm said, continuing to brush her mane, "there will be a day where you and I will leave this behind us. When it will come, I don't know. But, I know that as long as we stay together, anything is possible."
Blue Reef looked up at him and smiled.
"I don't think there's another stallion like you anywhere." She said, resting her head back down on his chest, "Or a better husband."
"Well," he replied, "I have the most beautiful mare in the world for a wife. I think it worked well for both of us."
He felt the movement of her cheek on his chest as she smiled. Then he saw her horn glow and a small box float through the air.
"I bought you something." Blue Reef smiled, allowing the box to land gently next to them.
Black Helm stopped brushing and turned to open the box. Lifting the lid, he found a smoking pipe made of oak with a helm carved into it. It was polished and smooth, never before used. It sat neatly in a soft padded outliner that was unattached to the box.
"It's wonderful, love." Black Helm said, taking it out of the padding, "But, you know I don't smoke."
"I know." Blue Reef replied, looking back up at him, "But, I thought it would make you look more like a captain."
Black Helm placed the mouthpiece between his lips and closed one eye, pretending to smoke his pipe. His playful nature caused Blue Reef to chuckle.
"There's something else in the box as well." Blue Reef smiled, "Under the padding."
Curious, Black Helm took the padding out of the box and found a plaque. On it were the words;
My father is a brave sea captain. What's yours?
Black Helm chuckled as he read it. But, then he looked down at his wife and saw something different in her eyes. That's when he realized what the plaque meant.
"Are you..." Black Helm stammered, his pipe falling out of his mouth and landing on the bed.
"Yes." Blue Reef replied with joy, "Yes, I am."
Tears rolled down Black Helm's cheeks, as did Blue Reef's tears. And with that, they wrapped their hooves around each other and held tight.
"I love you." Black Helm whispered, kissing her head, "Both of you."
"I love you too." Blue Reef whispered back, nestling her head into his chest, "And so does our child."
Black Helm held his pipe, now worn and aged. He brought it up to his lips and stuffed some tobacco leaves in it, before striking a match and puffed until the heat took to the leaves.
"Mind if I join you?" A small voice asked from behind him.
Black Helm turned and found Surf Salt standing and looking over the ocean as the sun peeked over the waves.
"Of course." The captain said, gesturing the colt over to the rail, "You're welcome to almost anything aboard this ship."
With that, Surf approached the rail and stood next to the captain. Both watching the sun rise out of the water and greet them.
"Your mother..." Black Helm began, blowing a cloud of smoke, "Did she ever talk to you about your father?"
Surf looked up at the captain with some curiosity, but felt comfortable enough to answer.
"She mentioned him a few times." The colt replied, looking back over the railing, "Always told me that he was out here on the ocean, trying to find his way home. Trying to find a way for us to be free. I used to sit by the window and watch as the ships came to the harbour, hoping that one day I'll see him walk up to the door. But, after a while, that hope faded away and I gave up."
Black Helm puffed another cloud and thought, before speaking.
"You don't have to answer, but I'm curious." Black Helm said, keeping his eyes on the horizon, "How did she die?"
He looked down and locked eyes with the young colt, who had a tear rolling down his cheek.
"She died while protecting me." Surf replied in a hushed voice, "Sharp Edge came to the house one day and was demanding something from her. I wasn't sure what, but he was angry when she refused. Before I knew it, the door to my room flew open and he started marching towards me. Mom quickly tackled him and told me to run away. So I climbed through the window and down the roof, before disappearing into a crowd."
Black Helm knelt down to Surf's eyelevel and put a hoof on the colt's shoulder.
"I went back home a couple hours later, expecting to see my mother waiting happily for me." Surf continued, dropping his eyes to the deck, "But, instead I found her laying on the floor. Her eyes were half lidded and her colour had faded slightly. I walked over to her slowly, before closing her eyes completely and laying down beside her. I cried myself to sleep and prepared a burial for her in the garden the next day. She's still there, under the dirt and a bed of lilies. If my father had been there, it might've been different."
Black Helm pulled the colt in closer for a warm hug, trying to comfort him.
"Yes, it might have been different if he was." He said, closing his eyes and feeling the colt weep into his jacket, "I am so sorry, son."
The Lost Treasure Of Captain Moonlight
"Stop, you little thief!" A stallion called as a young colt raced through a village in Saddle Arabia.
The colt was a young grey unicorn with a silk pouch for a cutie mark. He wore a red hearted-shaped gem and a small battered saddlebag that contained a small amount of jewels and a rolled up map. It was very clear that the items he had didn't belong to the young unicorn, but he had taken them on a dare from some other young colts. It's one thing to steal from some merchant, but it's another to steal from a very powerful and dangerous stallion like Sharp Edge.
However, the stallion chasing the young colt wasn't Sharp Edge, just one of his henchponies.
But, Sharp Edge isn't someone to take lightly. He was strong, mean, cold-hearted, and possibly the worst pony one could meet. He was a very rich stallion and had connections in certain places. If something was wrong and it involved him or his organization, he wouldn't hesitate to handle the problem. But, most times, the problem usually lead to someone in his employ. And usually, those ponies are never seen again after Sharp Edge has spoken with them.
Now, there was a rather different situation. The young colt had managed to break into his home and into a safe, taking a map and his prized jewels. Both were very valuable to him. But the map meant the most to Sharp Edge. Why a young unicorn colt would take it, he didn't know. But, one thing is for certain, he had no intention of letting it slip away from him.
Quickly, the colt rounded a corner and dashed into a busy market place. The stallion struggled to follow as the colt zipped between other ponies and merchant stands. The colt finally found his way to the other side where the port was.
In front of him were sailboats, rowboats, steamships, and airships. Cargo and passengers crowded the busy area, but that just played more to the colt's advantage. He knew a thing or two about ships and knew that an airship was faster. But, at the same time, a steamship can hold far more cargo or passengers, making it harder to find him.
"Where are you?!" The stallion called, barely heard over the overlapping conversations.
Quickly making up his mind, he darted towards an open crate that was about to be loaded onto an airship and climbed inside. The crate was full of colourful fabrics, which the colt buried himself in. There was a small hole in the wood of the crate, which allowed him to look out.
"I know you're here somewhere, brat!" The stallion seethed, finally emerging from the crowd, "You can't hide forever."
Thu-thunk!
The colt felt the crate shake a little as the lid was being put on top.
"Alright," a voice said as the crate was lifted and carried onto the ship, "this'll be the last one."
"Aye, sir." Another replied, "Prepare to cast off!"
As the crate was set down on deck, the colt watched as the stallion climbed aboard to search. However, he didn't make it very far onto the airship as one of the crew stopped him.
"Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to leave." The crew member said, holding a hoof against the other stallion's chest, "You're not allowed aboard this vessel."
"Get out of my way!" The stallion growled, glaring at the crew member, "Or I'll-"
"You'll what?" Another crew member asked, being flanked by several others.
The stallion looked at the ones around him and they looked right back at him. He knew he was well outnumbered, but he was also fairly big.
"Hmph!" The stallion snorted, choosing to obey, "Fine then. I'll leave your poor excuse for a ship."
Before he turned back toward the boarding plank, the stallion managed to catch a glimpse of a small eye looking at him through a hole in a crate. Flashing a chilling smile at the little pony watching, the stallion walked off the airship and headed back through the port.
The colt breathed a sigh of relief as he watched the stallion disappear back into the crowd. But, he knew that it still wasn't safe to come out, since the crew were on deck and preparing the ship to leave.
"Cast off!" A voice called, "Make our heading west and secure that cargo. It'll be a long voyage home."
"Aye, sir!" Another voice called, "Half-power to the engines. Elevation to six hundred feet."
"Aye, aye."
With that, the colt knew that it was too late to try and leave. Now his only option was to go wherever this crate went. However, he didn't mind. He had nowhere to call home and no one to go to. And the thrill of adventure was too tempting to pass up.
If only he knew what kind of adventure he was on...

It took me a while to come up with a good idea for a story. But, I think I found one that might stick. I hope you enjoy it.
The Lost Treasure Of Captain Moonlight
Water splashed against the hull of the Sea Master as it left the harbour and out to sea. The spray of the waves moistened the air and dampened the deck. Seagulls squawked and flew overhead, occasionally diving down to the water to catch fish. And ponies went about their business aboard the vessel.
"Nothing beats the big blue." Surf said, leaning against a rail and looking off into the distance.
"Aye, that be true, lad." A voice said, slightly startling the colt.
Surf whipped his head around and saw Black Helm walking up to join him.
"My father used to take me everywhere when he was in the business." Black Helm smiled, leaning against the railing as well, "Of course, my mother didn't really approve of her only son going out on the ocean. But, she never stopped me. Just said that I had the right to make my own decisions and to be careful. My father took me with him until I was twenty-two. But, by then, I had earned enough to buy my first boat. Nothing special, just a little single prop Wave Hopper. But, it got me started."
"Humph!" Surf snorted, returning to the view of the ocean, "At least you knew your dad. Mine has never been there since I was born. My mom taught me everything she could, but it was difficult sometimes."
Black Helm looked at the colt with curiosity. Something about Surf seemed to interest him, but he wasn't sure what.
"What was her name?" Black Helm asked, looking back at the ocean, "Your mother?"
"Blue Reef." Surf replied, resting his head on his hooves, "She told me she was named after the coral reefs of the Crystal Sea, which glow bright blue in the moonlight."
"I know those waters well, it's one of my favorite parts of the world."
Black Helm then turned to leave, patting the colt on his back as he departed. However, on his way to the wheelhouse, his first mate stopped him at the door to the interior of the ship.
"Blue Reef?" The first mate whispered, "We knew a mare named Blue Reef once."
"Shut your trap, Star!" Black Helm replied in a hushed tone and looking to make sure Surf wasn't listening, "You will not say another word about it. That colt has had it hard enough and I don't think he would appreciate the fact that he could be my blood."
Black glanced once more at the colt, seeing that he was still out of earshot and preoccupied by the ocean.
"It would be best if we never spoke of this again."
With that, Black Helm entered the ship and made his way up to the wheelhouse. Upon his arrival, he found Twilight standing in front of a big map of the world.
"You still haven't said where you're going or what you're doing, Princess." Black Helm said, grabbing and holding a pair of binoculars up to his eyes, "Care to fill me in on why we're out here? And don't tell me it's for a cruise. If it was that, there were plenty luxury vessels and pleasure crafts in the harbour. But you all chose my ship, which was the furthest thing from a cruiser."
Twilight looked between the captain and the map as she thought of a reasonable response.
"Well, it's more of a salvage mission really." Twilight said, putting on her most convincing grin and looking back at the map, "You see, I have a knack for artifacts and antiquities. Plus, I'm kind of adventurous. So, when I heard about a shipwreck that's supposed to be holding some rare items aboard, I couldn't resist the temptation."
"So you decided to go chasing this rumor?" Black Helm replied, keeping his eyes on the horizon, "I can't say I'm fully convinced, but I've never really pried into other ponies business. But, it would help if I knew which direction to go and what we're looking for."
"Take us due east, if everything goes accordingly we should be close in three to four days."
"Very well. Mr. Cable, ten degrees starboard. Engines at half steam."
Almost immediately, the ship leaned as it began to turn and smoke billowed from the stack as more speed was added. Then Black Helm set the binoculars down and grabbed the microphone for the intercom that had been modified to the ship.
"Attention, crew." Black Helm said, his voice echoing through the retrofitted speakers, "As many of you may have noticed, we have female company aboard. They have hired us for a salvage operation and are here to see it through. You will give them the same respect as myself and aid them if it is required of you. Any immature or inappropriate behavior toward any of them will be punished accordingly and immediately. However, if there is an issue between you and one of them and you're not the one who caused it, speak to me. Other than that, keep doing your duty aboard this vessel. That is all."
The captain placed the microphone back in its place and looked at a clock on the wall.
"It's going to be a long night, Cable." Black Helm commented, approaching the wheel, "Go down to the galley and make some coffee for the crew. And perhaps some tea for our guests, would you?"
"Right away, captain." The brown unicorn replied, letting go of the helm and exiting the wheelhouse.
Now it was just the princess and the captain in the wheelhouse as the ship steamed along.
"Alright, truth time." Black Helm said, looking towards the horizon, "What are we really doing out here? Because, let's be honest, the way you sounded, your fake smile, and 'salvage mission' story wasn't as convincing as you hoped it was. In fact, I wasn't convinced at all. So, why are we here?"
Twilight felt her ears twitch as she realized she had been caught.
"How did you know I had a fake smile?" She asked, cocking her head to one side, "You weren't looking at me when I did."
"Actually, I only said that the be funny." Black Helm replied, turning his head enough to show a grin, "But, since you just admitted to that, it just proves that you haven't been completely honest with me."
Twilight cursed herself for falling for the captains trick. But, now she had no choice but to tell him the truth.
"Okay, fine." Twilight said, rolling her eyes, "But, this stays between you and me. Deal?"
"Done." Black Helm replied, looking back to the ocean as the sun began to go down.
"How much do you know about pirates?"
"I know some. What? Are you hoping to find Captain Moonlights missing fortune, or something?"
"Yes, actually."
Slowly, the captain turned his head and stared at Twilight with confusion, bewilderment, and wonder.
"That's interesting." Black Helm said, taking a pipe out of his coat, "That's very interesting."
