Author's Note

Before you burn me at the stake, this is my first ever story. I know I have a lot to improve on. I also understand that this idea is not the most original I just wanted to give my take on the concept. Also, the lines dividing different parts are to show when a memory starts/ends. well, I hope you enjoy and I'm always open to criticism.

Immortality's Curse

All that filled the dark room was the dim golden glow of the alicorn’s horn. Every so often an odd sniffle echoed throughout the library, traversing every inch of its halls. A rather old and worn looking table is placed in front of the princess. Her mane is no longer flowing and her expression is distraught. Celestia's eyes, red and watery, are locked on a single photograph. This photograph depicts a joyful lavender colored mare standing next to the princess with a large toothy grin. By now the photograph was faded. Although it was taken over one thousand years ago, it still felt like yesterday. Tears began to well up and trickle down her face. They slowly made their way to the glass that was protecting the photo. The princess of the sun was at her weakest, She tried to remember happier times.

“Take it easy, mastering teleportation takes time.” Spoke the kind motherly voice to the small unicorn. The foal nods and focuses, igniting her horn. “That's it, now move the rock from the table to the floor.” After a small purple flash, The table and the rock where gone. When she heard a loud crash from outside the window, Celestia gasped. The foal cowered and looked up at her mentor. “I-i-i'm truly sorry princess I didn't mean t-” Twilight tilts her head suspiciously when she is cut off by the princess... laughing? Celestia did all she could to stop herself from continuing laughing. She gave her student a proud smile. The next words out of her mouth made Twilight the happiest pony of all time. “Don't be sorry my faithful student, that was quite impressive. Never in my life have I seen some-pony gifted as you. Not even Star Swirls himself.”

“Gifted…” Celestia mutters to herself quietly. She wipes her tears, trying desperately to keep herself under control. The white coated and rainbow maned alicorn rises and says out loud to herself. “Maybe a nice walk will help me clear my head.”

“clack clack clack…” Sounds of gold connecting with stone emanated throughout the sister's castle as Celestia made her way to the royal garden. It was never closed. The older of the two princesses loved to watch her little ponies roam around and admire the beauty of the royal garden. Today though, today, she kept it all to herself. Maybe it was a bit selfish, but Luna insisted she did so. As the princess began sniffing some flowers and admiring statues, she spots an empty podium. A proud smile creeps onto her face.

“BANG!” In one massive flash of color and light, it was over. The elements stand there, Twilight out of breath. They all look in awe at what they had done. Discord, one of the greatest evils in Equestria's history was nothing more than a stone impression of himself. He was frozen in the middle of one of his ear piercing laughing fits. Soon the princess of the sun found where this event had occurred, pinkie is still crying over her loss of Discord’s fluffy cotton candy clouds, it was the only thing she liked about Discord. Celestia felt pride overcome her as twilight described how she pulled her friends together to halt her long-time enemy in his tracks. Although this was a momentous occasion the wise princess knew this wouldn't be the last she’d see of him. Far from it

Celestia runs a hoof across the cold stone podium. It brought back plenty of good and bad memories for her. Such a seemingly out of place object held so much meaning and a multitude stories.

“This is it… it's really happening…” Celestia thought to herself as they stood in front of Discord’s trapped body. Should they really do this? Was it even safe? What will he do? It was too late to stop anything. Twilight and her five friends had already begun the plan. A beam of colorful light arched towards the statue. In yet another glorious flash Discord was now released. Days turn to weeks and weeks to years. Discord is now a changed being. The evil he once was is gone. Is he still mischievous? Yes of course, but that seemed to be a lot better than the god of chaos. The fact that Twilight and her friends could actually change discord for good shocked Celestia. That was thought to be an impossible feat for the sisters, but somehow twilight did it.

The empty podium stands as a symbol. It had a brass plaque that said. “All ponies can change if they want to, for better or for worse.” She continues to walk keeping her tears from welling up. Being outside puts her at risk of being seen by her subjects. Witnessing Their ruler like that would crush them, Celestia couldn't do that to her little ponies.

“Pop!” Celestia's ears perk up as she hears a familiar sound behind her. Normally she would calmly turn without a hitch, but when she saw what was behind her a shiver ran down her spine. Discord was floating around lazily behind her. He was twiddling his thumbs looking annoyed. “Don't look so down old friend~” he says in his slimy inconsiderate tone, but there was also a hint of annoyance in his voice. Emphasis was put on the word friend.

“Discord please… not today….” Celestia said in a strained voice and sorrowful voice.

“Oh, you say that every year. Can you just stop this already,” he said getting to the point rather quickly for him.

“You know how much I miss her Discord. Can you just, leave me be?” she pleads with him, but her request falls on deaf ears.

“But year, after year, you do the same thing. Every time this day rolls around you mope around and put every pony in a bad mood!” he was more annoyed than spiteful or worried. The Draconequus never truly felt sorry for the princess.

“Only you and Luna se-...” She’s cut off by him again.

“Bla blah blah still puts me in a bad mood. I mean come on, She came and went like -Snap!- That. why are you still so upset? It's just another grain of sand!” As Celestia begins to boil with anger she yells.

“Because she was the only mortal we ever connected with!” Celestia yelled in her royal Canterlot voice. The booming voice made the ground shake. Hearing something like that from Celestia could terrify any pony, even Discord shuddered in response. “Leave! We command you to leave!” she continued to yell and stomp the floor. Just as fast as he arrived he disappeared with the same familiar “Pop!”

The princess of the sun stands still panting heavily. Celestia hasn't been so angry in her life, and it's been eons since she used that voice. The sound was loud enough to wake Luna from her sleep. Luna made her way through the castle searching for her sister. “Tia? Tia where are you?” She said in a concerned voice as she roamed the halls. Celestia walked shakily back to her room, tears are running down her face. They mark the path she took throughout the castle. She had finally snapped, she knew it would happen before the end of this horrible, horrible day.

Celestia’s looking down at the frail pastel colored pony that lay in bed. The princess knew this would be her last memory of her. She smiles down at Twilight as she began to cry, a raspy voice comes from her student. “You’ve been the best teacher I could have asked for.” Twilight thanks her using the last of her strength.
“You were more than i could have ever asked for out of a student.” She starts to get choked up. “Now i have to… i… i have to say goodbye… my faithful student.” Twilight nods and takes a few more breaths before life leaves her. Celestia hugs her student and cries softly.

Luna finds Celestia laying in her bed. “T-Tia?. Are you-”

“Not now sister,” Celestia says weakly. Luna nod.

“You know where to find us.” She leaves after giving her sister a comforting smile.

-next day-

The day and night pass quickly. Celestia raises the sun like every morning and goes on with her royal duties. Luna asks later that evening “Tia? Are you okay?” Celestia nods as she stamps yet another paper with the royal seal.

“Absolutely splendid, why do you ask?” Luna tilts her head questioningly. Celestia’s mane is back to flowing with magic.

“I-it's just… we saw you rather upset yesterday.” Luna places a hoof on her sister’s shoulder.

“Ah yes, no need to worry sister. It's the curse you and I live with.”

“What curse might that be?” Luna asks looking into her sister's eyes.

“The curse of immortality of course.” Tia smiles down at Luna, but Luna could still see the sadness in her eyes. It never completely left. She would never forget her faithful student.

The End
