Chaper 1: Really? THAT'S a spell!?

Twilight Sparkle sat at her desk flipping through the quill-written spell book Princess Celiestia had given her, checking it for any new spells that she just had to learn. Two or three had caught her eye but she wanted to read the whole book before she sat down to properly study a spell, after all this was something that one of Celiestia’s former students had left behind when he had ended his studies. Suddenly she stopped, her nose crinkled, as grin reshaped her lips, then she burst out laughing.

“What’s so funny Twilight?” Spike said as the young dragon entered the room. “Did Pinkie Pie finally make a joke book?”

“No,” Twilight responded as the lavender unicorn looked away from her book. “I think whoever wrote this book put this last spell in as a joke. I mean, what kind of incantation is Boingis-Biggis Hooty-Booty anyway?” Spike burst out laughing as soon as she finished her sentence.

“See, it got you too!” Twilight giggled as she turned to face the laughing heap that had been her number-one assistant. She levitated the book in front of her with her magic to be sure of what she had read. “… Seriously, Boingis-Biggis Hooty-Booty have you ever heard of anything so ridiculo-”

Before Twilight could finish her sentence her magic flared, and in a burst of magenta-energy her and Spike’s bodies morphed into strange new shapes.

“-Us.” Twilight squeaked as she looked over what her spell had done.

Beneath her short lavender coat of fur twilight could see the shape of a flat stomach, wide hips, long legs, and two large round shapes on her chest. She turned around to get a look at her flank; each cheek was now so round and stuck out so far her tail could rest in the resulting cleavage between them. And attached to her shoulders her front legs had shortened compared to her hind legs, taking on a much different shape, in fact they looked like longer sleeker versions of the arms Spike used to have, complete with graceful lady-like hands.

Spike had been similarly affected, he had gone from being up to Twilight’s shoulder to a head taller than her, the tightness of his scales betrayed the form of rippling muscles beneath, his claws now much more defined especially on his feet which seemed almost disproportionately larger now. Clearly he was no longer a baby dragon, Twilight couldn't believe a body like these could belong to anything less than a mature adult. His muzzle had shrunk to his face and his nose had shrunk to a shape Twilight had never seen before anywhere in Equestria. His tail, still the length of his back now looked much longer and more flexible, and across his pelvis from where his tail and back connected…

“S-Spike,” Twilight stammered, “W-what’s that bulge between your legs?”

“It’s… It’s probably exactly what you think it is…” Spike confessed.

“Was it always so… Big?” Twilight asked, secretly impressed by what she was seeing.

Spike taken aback by Twilight’s second question, he stopped to examine it “I think so…” he replied “it’s just that I don’t have a belly to hide it anymore.”

Twilight forced herself to look away as she felt she may have been staring, her gaze fell on the town below her library where she noticed several other ponies going through a similar shock to what she and spike had just experienced.

“Look Spike! The spell must have affected the whole town!” Twilight observed. In fact it went further than that. All of the sentient creatures of Equestria had been affected, Every Unicorn, Pegasus and earth-pony from the Cristal Empire in the icy north, including the Yaks and Gryphons north of the crystal empire to the Zebras and Graphs to the South. The entire world was now populated with anthropomorphic versions of the characters that had always called it home.
When reports of this trickled down from the princesses to Twilight she felt compelled to address the town, she quickly organized a speech and hurried to town hall. The ponies there chattered among themselves so long and loudly it was difficult for Twilight or Mayor Mare to get their attention.

“SIIILENCE!” Spike roared in a voice as loud as a thunder-clap. Every pony immediately dropped their own conversations and looked up at the stage.

“Crude, but effective” Twilight observed “thank you.”

“Just trying to be helpful,” Spike replied.

“Stallions and gentle mares,” Twilight began, “I’m sure that by now you’ve all noticed that we’ve been transformed into strange new forms. Reports are still coming in but from what the princesses have informed me of it seems that our entire world is experiencing the same thing. Now I want to allay your fears that this is not some form of magical attack or Discord’s latest prank… It was my fault,” the crowd glared in Twilight’s direction.

“…I read a ridicules sounding spell out loud while levitating the book it was in” She continued, “so the magic already flowing thru my horn reacted to the incitation. I’ve looked at the spell and the page it’s on doesn’t say much other than it was “the greatest project” of the unicorn who wrote the book. Until I get this figured out I’m going to ask you all to remain calm and go about your lives as normally as possible.”

“Normal!?” Rarity blurted from the crowd “How can we act normal like this!?”

“I know our bodies are stranger now,” Twilight said, trying to comfort her frantic friend and the town at large. “But think about it, how many of you had trouble getting out your doors to come here or even walking now that we’re all bipeds instead of quadrupeds.”

Curious glances bounced around the crowd. None of them had noticed until Twilight pointed it out, but none of them had really experienced any hardship because of their new forms, it was only strange, and a little confusing. But they had needed no time to adjust to how their bodies now functioned. The rest of the world including their own nervous systems seemed to fit these new bodies as if they had always been in them.

“So… how long do ya’ think it will take to turn us all back to normal, Twilight?” Apple Jack asked.

“That’s the thing,” Twilight explained to the buff orange mare, “Either the spell is like a light-switch and using it again will turn us all back to normal or its effects could stack and casting it again could change things more drastically. Either way, it’s going to take more time and research, specifically into this “Harry Clopper” who wrote the spell and what kind of mind-set he was in when he wrote it.” A few colts and fillies giggled at the name.

“Are there any other questions?” Twilight asked.

“I’ve just got one question…” Rainbow Dash asked “Who is that?”

Twilight looked where Rainbow Dash had indicated. “Um… that’s Spike.”

Every pony gasped in a united shock at the knowledge that Twilight’s number-one assistant was now the same strapping young dragon who now stood in the background. Spike had no idea what to do next, he looked to Twilight for some kind of answer or cue, but she just returned his confused look. Taking a deep breath, Spike took one big step out of the background, gave one full turn, and took a bow. Mares and older fillies whistled and swooned in unison, Spike blushed at the sudden accolades of the town’s bachelorettes. Twilight smirked and rolled her bright purple eyes.

“Okay ladies,” she said “you’ve had your fun.”

“I haven’t had any yet!” Pinkie Pie chirped from the back row, Twilight gave her a confused look. “He-he-he, sorry, I couldn’t resist the joke. I’m good now Twilight, you can continue.”

‘The more things seem to change…’ Twilight thought. “Alright, if there are no more questions, beef ca- I mean Spike and I will be going back to the library to do further research. Keep doing what you do normally so our society doesn’t unravel and we’ll have an update as soon as we can.” And with that, Twilight and Spike made their exit.
