Chapters (chapter 1) case: the alicorn anomaly
"Already?" I ask the director. I'd just closed the Bat-pony case, now I've got another one. Before I can get in anymore protests, or the director can say anything else, Silver butts in.
"Why so soon? Hearthswarming is just around the corner. This weekend, to be exact." Silver tells the director. I turn back to the director.
"Yes! It is! What's the case? Please tell me I need to travel." I plead him.
"Yes, you need to travel..." He tells me, unsure of how to respond. I hop once, happily.
"Sweet! Where to?" I ask him. Silver begins to protest but the director cuts him off.
"Come to my office, I've got the case file for you." He tells me, and I nod.
He walks away, leaving Silver and I alone. I start to walk out and gesture for Silver to follow, he does and he closes the door behind him.
"Why do you want to leave on hearthswarming?" He asks me, giving me a puzzled look.
"I can't stand it, everypony it's just too happy, running around, singing. It's too much." I tell him, turning a corner and almost running into another agent. Silver stifles a laugh.
"You sound just like snowfall." He tells me.
"Who?" I ask him, stopping in front if the directors door.
"Snowfall Frost? Hearthswarming tale?" He asks, trying to jog my memory. To no avail.
"No, never heard of it." I tell him, he rolls his eyes, knocking on the director's door.
"Come in!"
Bump bump. Every few seconds. Bump bump. The railroad track joints. Bump bump.
Silver has fallen asleep a couple hours ago. I was absorbed in a book until about ten minutes ago. And it's grown dark outside. I might aswell try to fall asleep. I'll just have to block out the loud track noises.
Bump bump.
Stretching and yawning, I wake up. We've arrived at our stop. Took a full day. Now it's just a walk to Griffinstone. I wake Silver up and throw on my saddle bags. He does the same with his bags and we walk off the train. Squinting my eyes at the bright side, I turn to him.
"So, now we just walk this way?" I ask, looking towards the old dirt road.
"Yea, Griffinstone's about a mile, mile and a half that way." He tells me starting to walk.
"Okay..." I say, heaving a sigh.
"Here we are.... Rundown town of Griffinstone..." I say.
"This'll be fun." Silver sighs, walking alongside me.
I look at the map Silver's levitating in front of himself.
"Looks like the police station is, that way." I say, pointing to my left. We walk the road, gaining dirty looks from Griffins as we walk.
Finally arriving at the building, I stop and look at at. It's old, fading wood color, and looks like big house. Building up the will to walk in, I push the door open, Silver behind me. I walk to the front desk and see a Griffin, asleep in her chair.
"Excuse me?" I say, not rousing her.
"Hey! Wake up!" Silver yells and she jumps, looking at us.
"The hell you want?" She asks, sitting forward in her chair.
"I want the chief." I tell her, adjusting my wings.
"Back." Is all she says, leaning back to fall asleep again.
I look at Silver, and he shrugs. I turn towards the hallway to my right and walk down it. It's a long hallway, but no doors. The only one being at the end. Reaching it, I knock.
"Who the hell is it?" A gruff voice yells.
"Andreah Reigns, RCIS. I'm her about the pony remains found." I yell through the door.
"About fuckin time, come in!" He yells. Grinding my teeth, I open the door, Silver shutting it when were both in.
"What too you so long?!" He asks, acting almost frantic.
"Sir, it's a full days train ride from Canterlot to here. Then another half-hour walk to here." Silver says, earning a scoff from the chief.
"Anyway." The chief says dismissively. "We left the bones, not like we would want to do anything with them. They're in the old Town Hall basement." He tells me.
"Thank you sir. Anything else we need to know?" I ask him.
"No. That's it. You can leave now." He says demandingly.
"We were planning on it. Thanks." Silver says, anger dripping from his voice. "Come in Andreah." He beckons, opening the door.
I walk out without saying anything to the Griffins on the way out. Once we were out of earshot of them, and far enough away from the building, I spoke again.
"Well, I can already tell this case is going to be fun." I say, looking over to Silver. "Just, try not to shoot anypony."
"I was already thinking about it." He says, smirking at me.
"So, the town hall. This way?" I ask, pointing my way towards the entrance of the town.
"Yes" he says. "Close to the entrance of the town."
"Let's go find it."
I look up at the building with a city clock on it. I pull out my pocket watch from my trench coat and check the time. The Griffinstone clock is broken. My watch says 9:46 while this clock says either midnight or midday, either way, it's broken.
"Well." Silver starts. "Even a broken clock is right twice a day." He says, laughing, then walking in. I follow.
Looking around I see it clearly rundown, but still used. A receptionist Griffin sitting at the front desk, typing Celestia knows what. I walk up to her.
"Hi, how do I get to the basement?" I ask her. She looks up at me and scoffs.
"What is a pony doing here?" She says.
"I'm here working a murder case. So unless you want to be thrown into the Canterlot dungeons under obstruction of Justice, I suggest you tell me where the basement is." I say, smiling. Having enough of Griffin bigotry.
Scoffing again, she points behind her. "Stairs"
Without thanking her, I walk that way and find the stairs she was talking about. Silver in tow, I walk down them.
I smell the mold of an unused basement. I look around seeing clutter, and a unicorn skull and couple of vertebrae leading into the dirt.
I walk to it, setting down my bags. I take out my trowel and brush and start working.
"Uuhhh..... Silver?" I say worriedly after a couple of hours of work.
"Yes, Andreah?" He asks.
"We have a problem." I tell him, looking down at the alicorn skeleton.
(chapter 2) case: the alicorn anomaly
"This has to be a joke. Somepony playing with us. Everyone knows there are only four alicorns. It would be big news if one was killed." I say, starting to uncover the remains more.
"Well." Silver says, walking up to me." Technically there are five alicorns."
"Shut up! It's a baby, doesn't count." I say gruffly. Successfully shutting Silver up, I manage to uncover the rest of the skeleton.
"Hey Silver.." I shout, picking up the skull. He walks back down the stairs.
"Yea Andreah?"
"Bring the the gurney, would ya?" I ask, examining the skull.
"No problem." And back up the stairs.
Looking at the skull, I see all the normal signs of a unicorn. On the outside of it, it's fused nicely, nothing to say it's been forced on or tampered with. Flipping it over I look into the Foramen Magnum. It's Latin for 'Great Hole'. It's the hole the spinal cord goes into to connect to the brain. Looking into it, using a light behind me, I see where to horn connects. Same story, fused nicely, no signs of tamperment. Seeing to MOD, method of death, I look around the skull again. I run my hoof over every surface I can, hoping to feel something out of the ordinary. Zip. I look again. Nada. Goose eggs. Dammit. This skull is remarkably unremarkable.
"Silver! Where are you with that gurney!" I shout behind me. Gaining no response, I place the skull carefully back down where I found it. Standing up, I take off my gloves and turn around to be staring down the barrel of none other, than a Griffon Arms firearm.
After the initial shock passed, I notice the firearm being held up by purple glow. Moving slightly to my left I see a familiar face. Smirking at me. Lowering the gun, the mare in front of me smiles.
"Good to see ya, Andreah." She says, non-chalontly. Placing the gun back in a holster on her hip.
"That's not how you greet an old friend!" I yell, throwing my forehooves around her neck. Feeling her return the favor.
"That's how I greet this friend!" She tells me, pulling back from our hug. "Still working as a boring bone inspector?" She asks me.
"You know I love it." I tell her, walking towards the stairs. "You still a cop for the Manehattan police department?"
"Not any more. Where we going?" She asks, following be up the stairs.
"Well, my partner was supposed to be grabbing a gurney for me, but he's running a little late." I tell her, walking into the city hall lobby. Looking around I see no sign that Silver had been there.
"Where the hell'd he run off to?" I rhetorically ask, walking to the front door. I reach my hoof up to push it open only to have the door yanked away before I can.
"Andreah's gonna be pis-- AAH!" He shouts, surprised, his magic dropping the gurney behind him.
"Hmm?" I ask him, raising an eyebrow.
"Andreah! I was just gonna give you this!" Smirking, he levitates the gurney towards me. "You said you need it..."
"Your late. I could've been killed." I tell him, sarcastically. But all too real.
"Yea yea. Who's that?" He looks at the mare behind me. "She's beautiful." He says. I raise my eyebrow again.
"N-not as beautiful as you.... Miss Reigns..." He says, a nervous smile on his face.
"Suck up." I say, before turning around and walking over to the mare-in-question. Standing there, with a blue body and a purple mane, is my friend from college.
"This is Swift Quill. She's a friend from college." I tell him, standing next to her. I watch Silver walking closer, no doubt checking her out. I see his eyes stop on her Cutie Mark, a quill and Griffon Arms pistol. Then I see her wave her flank a little.
"You know! Silver's my coltfriend!" I blurt out, feeling territorial. I see Silver's face turn red while hers shows suprise.
"Anyway!" I say, pushing the gurney towards the stairs. "I've got some remains to move."
Placing the last vertebrae on the gurney, I sigh. Just picking all those up took up a good hour or my time. I wouldn't allow Silver or Swift touch them with magic because they don't know where to place them in relation to the other bones. Noticing something off, I walk around the gurney to look at them.
"Hay, Silver!" I yell, and a couple of seconds later he comes running down the stairs.
"Yes?" He asks, walking over to me.
"This isn't an actual alicorn. Thank Celestia. I think it's just a method of boasting." I tell him, hearing Swift walk down the stairs.
"You see this?" I ask, pointing to the T-6 vertebrae. After getting a hum of agreement from both, I can continue.
"This bone here, and the two surrounding it, would be fused with these here." I tell them, pointing at the wing bases. "They are specific too pegasus., But these are the Thoracic vertebrae of a unicorn. Not a Pegasus." I say, lowering my hoof.
"But that means we have more than one set of remains to uncover." Silver points out.
"Yes, and it's not going to be easy."
Finding the lab was one hell of a chore. Only with the help of Swift was I able to find it. Wheeling the gurney in, I yawn.
"I'll go over these in the morning, I'm getting pretty tired." I say to the two behind me.
"Me too."
"Uh-huh."
"Well, you sticking around, Swift?" I ask her, hope in my eyes.
"Yea. I've brought a tent to camp in." She says.
"Or..." I start.
"The bureau has a couple of cabins just out of town, your welcome to one if you'd like." Silver finishes for me.
"Why not?" She responds, smiling.
"Alright! I'll lead the way!" I tell them.
Talking a deep breath, I flop onto the bed in the cabin. Adjusting myself to lay next to Silver, who was already in the bed, I let out the breath.
"So, was she your marefriend?" Silver asks, bluntly.
"What!?" I blurt out, my face turning red. "N-no! My barn door doesn't swing that way!!" I shout.
"Mmhmm..." He mutters, sitting up to see my face. "I'm thinking mabey... Your 'barn door' was broken for a bit and it swung the wrong way."
"Nuh uh!" My face saying otherwise.
"Well, if you need a third body in bed." He says, sticking his tounge out.
"That was a long time ago!" I scold, pushing him over, then crawling halfway into him. Just enough to look down at his face.
"Besides." I say. "I like it when I have you all to myself~" my voice dripping with lust. Not allowing him to speak, I push my lips on his. Earning a moan from him. Giggling, I run a hoof through his mane.
I'm going to regret this when I have to get up early in the morning.
(chapter 3) case: the alicorn anomaly
Waking up. I should get payed for it. The beds in these cabins are too damn comfortable. I should see where they get them. I need one in my apartment.
Yawning and stretching, I sit up. Climbing off the bed, I tidy it up. leaving enough room for Silver. I grab a towel for a shower.
RING RING!! Goes the apartment phone. I open the bathroom door, and start to walk to the living room if the cabin.
RING RING!!!!
"I'm fuckin' coming!" Silver yells. A couple seconds later he bolts past me. He makes it to the phone and picks hoofset.
"Hello?" I hear an incoherent voice emminate from the phone.
"Yea, your marefriend is here." He says, and to prevent him from embarrassing me further, I run over and grab the hoofset from him.
"Somepony's eager."
I gently slap him away.
"Swift?" I ask, gaining a laugh.
"One mention of 'marefriend' and you know exactly who it is."
"Oh be quiet." I say, embarrassed. "Why did you call?"
"I'm calling because I need you down at Griffonstone lab."
"I'll be there soon."
I enter into the lab building and as soon as I walk past the receptionist, I laugh.
"She doesn't care." I say to Silver. He looks back to see her zoned out.
"Probobly high."
"Swift?" I question, walking into the lab, but seeing it vacant.
"Hold on!" She yells from the freezer room. A bit later she walks out.
"What where you doing back there?" I ask her.
"I... I-i was looking things over. Just making sure things were okay." She says then trots over to the skeleton from the day before. "I found something."
Silver and I walk over and I put on some gloves. I place my forehooves on the table.
"What'd you find?"
"Well, you see here?" She asks, pointing to a square divot on both the wing bones and the femur.
"Yea."
"Well, I took samples and did some tests." She tells me, then places a tray holding the samples in little plastic bags. Then from under the bags, she pulls a piece of paper.
"These are the results." She tells me, levitating the paper over to me. "They're both from the same pony."
"How's that possible?"
"I dunno, Silver." I respond. "The vertebrae isn't made at all like a Pegasus's."
We stood in contimplative silence for a bit. Breaking the contimplation was the chief.
"Andrea"
"It's not pronounced that way."
"Whatever, there's more remains." He says.
I look at Swift and see her nervous.
I've been conditioned to separate myself from emotion when finding remains. But I'd be lying if I said no emotion would slip through. And it did when I walked up to these remains.
These remains were that of an earth pony. But not buried. Just dumped. And recently too.
"These where decayed long before they where dumped." I tell the two unicorns behind me.
"What makes you think that?" Silver. I hold up a radius.
"No scavenger marks. On any of these. If they had any flesh out muscle it anything organic besides bone, they'd of been taken from here, and those found would have marks signifying that of scavengers." I tell them.
"That's why this is your job."
Placing the last bone on the table, I sigh, glad that's over. After making notes on the sight that the remains were found, we brought them back. I search for MOD. Finding something odd in the skull.
"Silver! Come here!" I yell, and hear hooves clop down the hallway. The door opens and both he and Swift step in.
"Yeah, Andreah?"
"I need you over here." I tell him. "There's a hole in the skull. Can you identify Calibre?"
"Yeah, but are you positive it's a bullet that caused it?" Walking over, he looks at me.
"I'm sure, there's metal scraps in the orifice."
Content with that answer Silver throws on a pair of gloves he grabs the skull. Examining the hole, he nods.
"That's definitely from a Griffon Arms firearm. There's rifleing marks. My guess is a forty-four or forty-five." He says, and out of the corner of my eye, I see Swift tense up.
"What's wrong?" I turn and ask her.
"O-oh, nothing. I'm fine." She says, and relaxes, a thought creeps up In my mind.
'what if she is the one who's doing all the killing here?' emediatly I push that question out of my mind.
"Well, we have MOD. All we need is identification. Hard to tell who's doing this if you can't connect the Vic's." I tell them, they respond with a nod.
"Ugh! We have to deal with more Griffons?!" Silver whines as we walk up to the police station.
"Well, we are in Griffonstone." Swift says sarcastically.
"Let's just get this over with." He says, walking into the building.
Walking to the receptionist, I say where here for the chief, she ignores me so I walk right through.
"I'll wait out here."
"Me too."
I turn to the two unicorns who said that.
"Okay, just, don't mingle." A smirk arriving at my lips.
I then turn around and walk to the chief's office. Arriving at said offices' door, I walk in.
"What the hell do you want?!" He shouts. I walk in and close the door.
"I need some things from you."
"Get it over with."
"I need records of all firearms in Griffonstone. And records of all incoming and outgoing ponies." Pause.
"Here." He hands me a paper. Looking on it, it says exactly what I asked for, at least the last one. Incoming and outgoing.
"Thank you."
"Firearm records, ask the mail griffon. We send records of that to Celestia. The mail office would have copies."
"Thank you, sir." I repeat. Turning around and walking out, I notice Swift and Silver walked off. Taking note of how often they disappear, I go looking for them.
"There you are!!" I yell, causing the two unicorns jump. I wandered the town until I saw them walking towards the lab. "Where'd you run off to?"
"I wanted to go look at the remains again. And he followed me." Innocent smile from Swift.
"Huh. Well, I need to go to the post office. So, Silver, you're coming with me. Swift, go look like you where going to." Glare at Silver.
"Yes mom..." He walks over to me.
"See ya later, 'dreah." She says and turns around. She then turns back around. "Mabey later, I could..." Smirk at me. "Take the Reigns?"
My face turns a red that would make a tomato jealous.
"Hi!!!!!! I'm Gabby!!!!!! Watcha need!?!!!??!" An over enthusiastic griffon asks as soon as we enter the post office.
"Hello!!" Silver responds, almost matching her enthusiasm.
I groan, Silver and I walking up to the counter she's at.
"Hi... I need a copy of the registered firearms in and around Griffonstone."
"I would gladly help!! But I'm going to need to see some identification to show your legally able to see such document." She says, an annoyingly happy smile still plastered on her face. I pull out my badge from my trench coat and hold it up.
"Oh! RCIS! Your official! I'll be back in a second." She says, running a claw under Silver's chin. "Ya cutie~" Then runs off to the back.
"Well well." He says, wearing a goofy smile, he looks at me.
"No." It's all I say.
"I mean, she's cute." He responds.
"No!" I repeat, almost yelling.
"Aww man." He says.
"I'm back!" A voice chirps, followed by her walking out a second later. "Here's your paper."
"Thank you~" Silver respond, smirking.
"Thanks, Gabby.... We'll be going now." Grabbing the paper. I drag him out of the post office.
(chapter 4) case: the alicorn anomaly
I didn't speak to Silver at all on the way back to the lab. Giving him the silent treatment for flirting with the mail griffon. Well, he wasn't exactly flirting with her . But the other way around, and he didn't stop it. So he'll get what he diserves.
Making it back to the lab building, we walk passed the stoned receptionist. Or was it the police griffon who was stoned? I dont know, they all look alike. Somewhat. Making it to the lab, I opened the door and yelled in.
"Swift! We're back!" No response. "Swif-mpfh." I blushed. I was blindsided by a purple glow. After realizing what was actually going on, I pulled away. Leaving a smirking Swift behind.
"What the hell!" Shouting, Silver pulls behind him and he stands in-between Swift and me.
"I saw the whole griffon thing at the mail place, figured Andreah would want to get you back, and I'd help." Smirk to a big grin.
"Worked for me." I couldn't help smiling.
"That's not fair! we never kissed!" More whining from my coltfriend.
"Yea, but payback is usually overkill." I say, walking past him and back over to the table. A groan from Silver and a laugh from Swift, I throw on gloves.
"I'm going to the cabin, it's getting late and I'm tired." Silver informs me. I nod to him.
"I'm staying later I'm going to get dental and send them to Canterlot. Then I'll look through the firearm records and the in/out records." I respond. After he grunts an acknowledgement, he walks out. Leaving swift and me to our own devises.
I Place the dental molds in plastic bags and seal them. Writing up an identification request, I place it all in a small, slightly flat, box. Sealing it, I make it out to the lab.
Tangled Wires
Canterlot crime lab
Canterlot
"Bam!" I shout in excitement. Happy to have that done. Swift comes trotting in.
"What'd ya do?" Curious eyebrow my way.
"I finished the molds." I tell her, slipping it into my saddle bag.
"You need me to run it to the post office? I can teliport and cut a half-hour in time."
I hum a thought. Finally "Sure!" Pulling it out of my bag, I hold it up to her. She grabs it with her magic, and then disappears. Leaving me alone. Fighting off a frightened shiver, I walk over to the desk and grab the in/out records.
Mint shake: in 12/10 out:12/13
Scarlet curtain: in 1/4 out N/A
I wrote down Scarlet's name.
Swift Quill: in 1/4 out:1/6
Porcelain Bowl: in 2/9 out N/A
Swift Quill: in 2/9 out 3/6
I wrote down Porcelain' name.
"Wait a second." Looking again, I see Swift enter save day as the John and Jane on the table. Remembering the gun records, I grab them. Reading what it says on the top out loud.
Both those who enter Griffonstone and those who buy in Griffonstone must register their firearms prior to use.
Then I read names
Name: Arthur
Species: griffon
Calibre: .308 mag
After reading that I sigh, scanning down the page.
"They're all Griffons." I say to myself, still scanning until something catches my eye. I read it out loud.
Name: Swift Quill
Species: pony
Calibre: .45 Auto
I then hear hooves clopping behind me. I turn and see Swift clopping her front two Hooves together dramatically. She then stands and walks over to be.
"So, I suppose the brilliant Doctor Reigns has it all figured it out?" Her normal happy and sweet voice now coated with villainy and treachery.
"What figured out? I was just reading the list, seeing who owned what." I lie, hoping to cover my flank. It all piecing together.
"Uh-huh." She says, seeing through the façade. I start to walk towards her, but she starts walking around me, circling, like a vulture 'round a new corpse.
"It was you, wasn't?" I ask, gaining a groan from her.
"'coarse it was me." Circle, circle.
"I get it now." I pause. "You didn't know it was me, at the first sight under city hall, did you? That's why you had your gun to my head. But once you saw it was me, not some other pony, you couldn't pull the trigger." Another pause.
"We--"
"I'm not finished!" Cutting her off, causing her to flinch. But not cease circling. "I notice you tense a couple times after I mentioned facts about the case. Like the Calibre wound. And I'll bet my left flank you didn't really deliver those dental docs. Did you?" Leaving the question to hang, telling her it wasn't rhetorical.
"No, I didn't! But good skills, Doctor . To bad you don't have your muscle around. Probobly philandering with that mail griffon as we speak. Who's to stop me from doing... This!?" And with 'this' she shoved her .45 in my face. Causing me to flinch.
"You get off on this don't you?"
"What...?"
"You get off on this, DON'T YOU?" I yell. "I mean, you did kill two others, but for what? Trophy hunting? Charter?"
"Shut up..." Gun backs off a little.
"No... Not for money. But you get sexual gratification from this. It gets you off. That's what that kiss was? Wasn't it? You couldn't help yourself. You where surrounded by your work. Same with that 'take the reigns' inuendo. Your horny. You can't stand being around your work without acnowlagement." I ramble. Hoping to talk my way out. Stun her with how much I know. Didn't work.
"SHUT UP!!" She screams. Breaking point. "YOU KNOW NOTHING!!!" Gun closer. "NOTHING!!! NOTHING!!! YOUR A HALF WIT!!!" She walks closer. "YOU DONT KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE TO NEED TO KILL!! THE FEELING INSIDE! IT'S LIKE A WITHDRAWL. OR SITTING ON THE EDGE OFF CLIMAX!" Closer, closer. I dare not interrupt her. She's too volitile, and has a gun.
"AND THE KILL!" Small moan from her. "THE KILL... IT'S THE RELEASE!! THE SECOND DOSE!" She stops getting closer and her gun freezes.
"And it's the best feeling in the world." She whispers.
We stand in silence for a minute.
"Hey Andreah! You've got mail!" Dammit Silver...
"Silver!! Ru-" I hold my breath. My ears are ringing. Why are they ringing. My adrenaline is rushing. Is Silver yelling? A bright purple flash. Silver Runs over. My legs give. I'm lightheaded. He's pushing on my chest. I look down. It's blood seeping from his hooves? Is he hurt? Am I hurt? Where'd Swift go? My eyes are heavy. I look at Silver. It goes black.
(chapter 5) case: Andreah's murder
Author's Note
This chapter, and following chapters until this is finished, is in the point of view of Silver Colt.
I must apologise in advance if Silver's personality is slightly like Andreah's. I have a certain way I prefer to write, and it's hard to switch when I have a pattern for a certain story.
I KNOW! It's a short chapter. If I made it longer it would bleed into the next.
(chapter 5) case: Andreah's murder
"Hey Andreah! You've got mail!" I shout, opening the door with my magic.
Heading to the cabin, I saw a letter from Celestia waiting for her there. Addressed to my beautiful marefriend. So I headed back to the lab.
Just barely around the door, a deafining crack sounded, and there was a bright purple flash. Flattening my ears I look towards where it came from. Standing, with a hole in her chest, is my Marefriend.
"Andreah!!!" No no no. I drop the mail and run to her. She falls to the ground.
Need to stop the blood.
I put my Hooves firmly on the wound and push. Keep pressure.
How am I going to get her to a hospital?
Racking my brain, I remember a crude teliportation spell. Keeping my hooves on her wound, I squeeze my eyes shut. Casting the spell to send us both to the Canterlot hospital.
That's really far. I hope I can make it.
I don't care if this will kill me. As long as I can save Andreah.
"WORTHLESS!!"
SMACK!
"GET OUT OF HERE!"
SMACK!
I run to my room, hearing my father's belt slam against the door.
I jerk awake, sitting up, sweating and breathing heavily.
"It's okay, it's okay. Your in the hospital." Gentle. Looking towards the voice, I see a nurse.
Sighing, happy it was a dream, I try to speak.
"No no, you'll hurt yourself. You used most your energy getting here." She places a comforting hoof on my foreleg and gently pushes me. Getting me to lie back down.
"A-Andreah..." I try sitting up again.
I look towards the nurse for answers. She looks down, then turns around.
"I'm going to let you rest."
"W-wait." Raspy.
She turns to face me. "Hmm?"
"RC..... IS.... chief..."
Darkness.
Whispers, one familiar, one not. I can't pin point the familiar one. I attempted to open my eyes. I get them open, but I'm unable to see much. It's a blurry blob.
"He's awake?" Clop clop clop.
"Mr. Colt. Welcome. That was quite the sacrifice. Your lucky you made it out. To bad it was in vain..." It's the chief.
Wait.
"In vain?" I can speak normally.
"Didn't you tell him?" The Chief blob it's facing away.
"What do you mean it's in vain!? Where's Andreah!?!" The EKG goes wild.
Another blob runs over.
"Please, stay calm. There's no need to get worked up."
Allowing time to calm. I speak again.
"Where's Andreah?" Blinking a few times, the fuzziness goes away.
Chief walks back over to me.
"Silver, Andreah died on the table two hours ago. The round hit her heart."
Hearing that, it felt as if my heart was hit.
"Chief! I know your there!" I yell from the hospital bed. Wiping my face of weakness, I watch the Chief walk in.
"Yes, Mr. Colt?" Closing the door, he walks over to me.
"I know who killed Andreah..." My eye twitches with that.
"All and any information is useful."
"She has a blue body and a purple mane. And her Cutie Mark it's a Quill behind a Griffon Arms pistol."
Nodding, he writes it down.
"Now, get some rest, Silver. And eat." With that, he walks out.
Oh, Celestia it's good to out of that dammed hospital. My legs were starting to cramp. I was told not to exert myself or teliport for at least another week. Fucking doctors orders. Great. That means I have to walk to the station.
Flashing my badge to the guards, I walk to the Chief's office.
KNOCK KNOCK
My hoof hits the door.
"Come in!"
I comply.
Door opens. Door shuts.
"What do you need Detective?"
Sitting down in the client chair I answer. "Sir, I request I be placed head investigator In finding Swift quill."
Pause
"Alright."
I was about to thank him.
"BUT! I don't want the fact you and Andreah were together to impede this investigation."
I must of had a questioning look.
"The whole of headquarters knew. It's what happens when you work alongside other detectives. And when you neglect to wash your coat after you two lay eachother."
My face flushed.
"Yea. Now, go catch us a killer."
I nodded and walked out of the office.
