A Sirens Beginning. A Unicorns Salvation
Chapter one: The Meeting
A young boy looked at the newly snow covered streets outside the window of the abandoned factory that he called his home. It was the first day of winter. The boy was almost six years old but due to undernourishment looked to be around five. The oversized clothes he wore didn't help much either. He originally had had black messy hair but had changed it when he accidentally discovered he could change his hair color, length and shape. He could also change his eye and skin color. His hair was now mostly a aqua blue color with the front tips looking like it had been dipped in emerald green paint. It was also a lot less messy now. Being covered by his front locks was a lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead. His eyes were still their original emerald green color, but his slightly pale white skin had been changed to a more healthy looking white. Around his neck was an emerald green gem shaped like a sideways hexagon with a rounded off top. The gem was attached to a black leather-like strap. The necklace was something he had always had and any attempt to take it away from him had ended in failure. The necklace would always react negatively and sometimes viciously to those who were either brave or dumb enough to try. He was Harry James Potter, not that he knew that of course. His “oh so loving relatives” always referred to him as either boy or freak. He knew from listening through the door of his bedroom. Which was a cupboard under the stairs, that neither were his actual name. He also learned that his aunt and uncle planned to get rid of him before he and his cousin Dudley started kindergarten. Since he learned of their plan he had been planning on what to do once he was free from them. He also learned by listening in on them that his mother, who was named Lily, was adopted into his aunts family when she was just a toddler. Apparently the two of them never really got along with each other. His mother had also had what was thought to be the same necklace that he now wore. The time finally came when his uncle had to go on a business trip from their home in Surly, England to America. He had gotten up around six when his uncle had awoken him rather rudely and told him to be ready in thirty minutes to take a trip with him. They had arrived at the airport at seven and where taking off at seven forty-five. The flight took a little over eight hours to get to their destination which Harry learned was called Canterlot, Colorado. Thankfully it was one of those complimentary meal flights. About an hour after they had landed they had managed to get their luggage and a rental car. They had driven for about an hour and a half until they were in the less wealthy part of town. His uncle pulled over, opened the back passenger door, roughly grabbed Harry and his small backpack that had his luggage and threw him out of the car. While doing this his uncle had said in a harsh and uncaring tone, “My family and I are done with you freak. Do everyone a favor and go die in a ditch somewhere.”
He had then closed the door, got back in the car and drove off. That had been almost four months ago and he could honestly say that it had been the best three to four months of his life that he could remember. He may have had to scavenge or steal for food and other necessities, but at least he didn't have to worry about being beaten like he normally was whenever he did something his aunt or uncle thought was freakish or abnormal. He even managed to find a place to stay that was relatively comfortable. He was at this time looking through one of the books he had found in the trash that someone had thrown out. The book was a book of names. He figured he may as well come up with a name to call himself since he didn’t know his birth name. One thing he had always loved was music. As such he had decided that his name would have to do with music. It didn't hurt that he had discovered that he was not only good at singing but could manipulate people to an extent with his singing. He had been looking through the D's in the book when he came to in his opinion, the perfect name. Dorian. The name was of a musical mode based on the second tone of a major scale. He didn't know why but the name just felt right. Now he just needed to come up with a last name. He had just decided to think about it tomorrow when he heard shouting from outside. “What is that about?,” the newly christened Dorian said to himself.
He then ran up the stairs to get a higher vantage point of the area the shouting was coming from. What he saw was something that made him pause for a moment. It appeared that a kid around his age had done something to piss off one of the local gangs. Dorian knew that judging by how pissed they sounded that if the kid was caught they would either be dead or close to death when the said gang was done with them. Now most people would simply shrug this off and go back to their own business. However, Dorian was not most people. The idea of leaving someone to such a fate left him feeling nauseous inside. Quicker than some would think possible for someone of his size, he sprinted back down the stairs until he got to the ground floor, grabbed his makeshift survival kit and made for the back door. Once outside, ignoring the cold and snow he ran towards the building next to the alley that he saw the kid and gang members heading for. He got to the fire escape and climbed. Once at the top he ran towards the part of the roof that he could hear the commotion from. Dorian quietly looked over the side and into the alley below. He could now see that the kid was indeed his age. However, the kid was also a girl. Dorian was now glad that he had decided to come and try to save the kid. He may have been a kid himself, but in the months he had been on the streets he had overheard what most the gangs did to girls they got their hands on. She was currently hiding behind a dumpster. Dorian picked up a few rocks and threw one to the opposite side of the alley and away from the hidden girl. Hearing the noise caused by the rock, the group of thugs ran towards it and out of the alley. The girl waited till she couldn't hear the thugs anymore before she slowly made her way out from behind her hiding place. The girl had a relieved yet confused look on her face, wondering what had caused the noise to distract her pursuers. “Hey, up here,” Dorian said in a hushed tone. The girl looked up at the voice. Once she caught site of Dorian she stopped. Looking up at him like a deer caught in the headlights of a car, Dorian gave a reassuring smile before he made the “follow me” gesture. He then made his way back towards the fire escape. Once back on the ground he looked back down the alley to see if the girl was following him or not. Luckily she was and they were in the clear. Once she was within three feet of him she stopped. Dorian then made the “follow me” gesture again and headed back to his home. As he was running back to his home, he would occasionally look back and around to make sure she was still following him and to check if the thugs had realized that they had been tricked. Once they made it, he quickly opened the back door and motioned the girl to go inside. The girl stood there for a while, clearly unsure whether she should trust him or not. However, the need to get out of the combination of cold, wind and snow out won her worry. As soon as she was inside Dorian closed the door behind him. Dorian took note that the girls clothing was soaked, ripped and dirty. He then ran over to where he kept his make shift towels, blankets and extra clothing that he had managed to procure. Grabbing a set of each he then ran back to the girl. Handing the sets to her and motioning towards a nearby public bathroom, the girl nodded with a relieved look on her face. Once she was gone Dorian then went over to one of the small battery operated heaters and started it. Around ten minutes after he was finished the girl came out of the bathroom. Now that they were safe he could get a good look at her. She was a inch or two taller than him. She had red and yellow striped hair, seafoam green eyes and slightly tanned skin. Dorian smiled at her and held his hand for her to shake. He then said, “I'm glad I was able to get to you in time. My name is Dorian. May I know yours?”
She looked at his hand confusedly. She then looked him in the eye. She must have seen what she needed because the smiled, took his hand in hers and said in a rather confident voice,”Thanks for saving me and the names Sunset Shimmer.”
However, once their hands touched a soft silver glow appeared around them. They both noticed this but had no time to think or voice their surprise because the glow then intensified into a bright flash. The next thing they knew they dropped to the ground unconscious. Both started to dream of memories not their own. After a good half hour they both started to awaken. No sooner were they fully awake did they look at each other and simultaneously exclaim in a shocked voice, “You're a sentient unicorn pony from another world/you have magic?”
They then noticed that during the time they were unconscious that they had moved closer to each other until they were practically snuggling. They immediately leaped away from each other with a blush forming on their faces. Wanting to try and restart their conversation he decided to take the initiative and said,”So, you are from another world?”
“Pretty much and you somehow have magic. Which is something I didn't even know was possible in this world,” she replied.
After some thought he said to her, “How about this, I'll tell you what I saw and you do the same, deal?”
She thought about it for a bit before nodding. I then told her what memories I had seen, from the world she was from. Which was apparently called Equestria to the Equestrians themselves. The inhabitants were mostly all sentient animals ranging from the everyday animals to those thought to be a myth. The most dominant species were Ponies which had marks on the flanks that appeared once the Pony found out their true true talent. They not only came in a variety of colors but four types. The first type was Earth Ponies. Which looked like regular Ponies save for the coloration. They also were really good at things that had to do with the earth like farming and were physically the second strongest. The next was the Unicorns. Which Sunset was a member of. They looked like Earth Ponies, but had a cone shaped horn on their heads. They were one of the two Pony species that could use magic, like you would normally expect it to be used. However, they were also the physically weakest. The next to last were the Pegasi or Pegasus as the were called individually. Just like Unicorns the Pegasi looked a lot like Earth Ponies but instead of having a horn on their heads they had two feathery wings on their backs. The Pegasi were shockingly able to physically touch clouds and even sleep on them. Because of this, they were in charge of weather control. They were also the third strongest physically. The last were the Alicorns. Their numbers were in the low single digits. They were a perfect blend of all three other Pony races. They were taller than the other Ponies and were physically the strongest. The current ruler of Equestria was an Alicorn named Princess Celestia who was her mentor. Which led to why Sunset was here in the human world. Apparently she had not been getting to were she wanted to be in her studies as fast she would have liked. The stress had gotten to her. She had become easily aggravated and more cruel than she would be otherwise. This also led to her and the princess having a very heated discussion. The end result was Sunset running away after a few choice words were said. She had ran until she came to an abandoned part of the castle. It was there that she found a full body mirror that she latter learned was connected to another world and could transport anyone to that world that walked through it. After a few days of thinking and planning Sunset had gone through the mirror. Upon arriving in this world she had discovered that not only had she changed into some sort of bipedal creature, but was also naked. Normally this wouldn't be a problem since ponies were normally naked all the time. However, this new form was devoid of fur except for the top of her head. Luckily she had managed to swipe some clothes that were hanging on a clothesline. That had been a little over three weeks ago. When he was done he told her that he didn't want to sound mean but it sounded like she simply had a temper tantrum. Sunset looked slightly upset at this, but settled down saying she agreed that she overreacted, but that he didn't have to say it in such a way that it made her sound like a spoiled brat. He laughed sheepishly before motioning that it was her turn. She began with the fact that he was an orphan and he was left with his aunt and uncle by who knows who. That his relatives didn't like him one bit. Weird stuff that he now knew had be magic happened around him. Especially when he was feeling a strong emotion. He was punished and sometimes beaten whenever something that his relatives considered freakish or abnormal happened. That he did not know his birth name because they always called him either boy or freak and that the name Dorian was the name he had decided to call himself. That his bedroom had been a cupboard under the stairs. That his relatives had decided to get rid of him by abandoning him in another country. Which happened three to four months ago. That he could partially change his appearance and to an extent manipulate people by singing. While talking about his relatives he could see that she was not happy with their treatment of him. Once they were done talking about the others' memories. Dorian decided to change the subject. “Now I can tell by your face you have no idea what that flash of light was and neither do I. I can also tell you're not happy about my “oh so loving relatives”. Speaking of not being happy, I hope you don't mind me asking, but what did you do to tick those guys off,” I asked.
Sunset shrugged and replied, “I tried to take some food that they believed was theirs.”
No sooner did she finish her answer than did they both hear a growling sound. A sound
originating from her stomach. Sunset's face developed an embarrassed blush trying her best
not to look Dorian in the eye. Dorian himself just let out a good hearted chuckle while saying,”It might not be much but I have some canned fruit if you want it.”
Sunset gave a embarrassed smile while keeping the blush on her face and nodding. “That actually sounds pretty good right about now.”
I smile and went to get the food and some disposable utensil. I also grabbed two bottles of
water Once I came back I handed one of the larger ones to Sunset. Luckily they were some of
those easily-to-open cans. As they were eating they continued to make small talk. Once they
were finished and had disposed of the trash into a nearby waste basket. Dorian asked,”So what do you plan to do now?”
Sunset looked thoughtful for a second before letting her shoulder drop and saying,“I have no idea. That canned fruit was the first thing I have had to eat all week and when I tried to get something earlier I was almost caught by those creeps.”
Clearly she was distraught over her current predicament. I then told her, “You know if you want you could stay here with me. You would have a roof over your head and a relatively warm place to sleep. It may mean another mouth to feed, but I could use the company and a friend would be nice to have.”
She looked at me with a mixture of shock and hope. “Really, you wouldn't mind me staying with you and you want to be my friend?”
“Why not? Besides it would be a lot safer for the both of us together than being out there alone,” I said.
She continued to look at me in shock before tears started to leak from her eyes. Quicker than
he could react Dorian found himself in a bone crushing hug with a crying Sunset saying thank
you repeatedly. Once she had worked the tears out of her system she let out a stifled yawn. I
gave a playful grin and said, “Tired I see.”
She smiled sheepishly and said, “Maybe a little.”
I just laughed and led her to the part of the factory that I had set up as a bedroom. I had set up
several different types of bedding. Such as an actual bed that I had found and put together, a
sleeping bag and a hammock. I smiled and motioned to the bed while saying, “You can have the bed and I'll take the hammock.”
She looked ready to complain and say that I didn't have to give up the bed. However, she
stopped after seeing the look on my face. A look that said I wasn't taking no for an answer. She
simply nodded in acceptance and made her way over to the bed. Once we were both situated, I
turned the lighting down to that of a night light. I then said,”Goodnight Sunset.”
“Goodnight Dorian,” she replied.
As we both drifted off to sleep, neither of us could have imagined what the future would hold
and how our meeting each other would truly impact the other.
