//-------------------------------------------------------// You should know it isn't safe -by Ecassmage- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// The Everfree Forest //-------------------------------------------------------// The Everfree Forest Pain, unimaginable pain was coursing through me. Not physical pain like when you stub your hoof or when you break your bone but pain at watching your fillyfriend's internal organs slowing escaping the large gash in her chest as a timberwolf slowly scowls around trying to find you as it's next victim. All that I'm left with, hiding in a this tree like a coward barely concealed knowing it can still smell me while still being able to see the one you like slowly bleeding out in front of you long sense passed out from pain. Knowing that I'll never be able to save her, to see her beautiful emerald green eyes ever again, or her smile that no matter how you're feeling always seems to mesmerize you and make you feel better about yourself. Suddenly the tree starts to shake and I look down and see two glowing eyes staring hungrily at me. I scream as loudly as I can and try to climb higher into the tree trying to flap my wings to push me up the tree faster. It almost succeeded too but a claw swatted my left hind leg. I cry out losing my grip on the branch I had a hold of and falling out of the tree and onto the hard rocky ground. As I lay on the ground winded from the fall and knowing the end was near, I look back to earlier that day when I had finally got the courage to go ask my crush out on a picnic on the outskirts of the Everfree forest and how she'd accepted. How I was so nervous that she wouldn’t like it or would pretend to so as not to hurt my feelings. How I was so wrong when she kissed me half way through right on the lips! I should have known that my luck wouldn't hold but I was so high on the feelings of her lips on my mouth that when she suggested to go into the everfree forest to explore I just went with it not stopping to thinking ‘wait isn't that the dangerous forest where everypony says is too dangerous for anypony to go in ever’ but nope just kept walking right behind her oblivious to the world but her. “Hey where should we go in here anyway?” She curiously asks me snapping me out of my slight daze “What about the ruined Castle of the royal sisters” I say as the idea popped into my mind. “Marvelous idea” she excitedly squeals kissing me on the cheek then starts trotting off without waiting for me. I shake my head so I might be able to think straight and so I could hopefully clear my head enough to stop the ever growing redness in my cheeks and trotted off to catch up. Catching up to my fillyfriend who was still trotting along like she was having the time of her life we walked in silence for several minutes until I broke the silence. “Do you know where the castle is?” I asked thinking we should have reached the castle by now. “Nope” was all she said. “Um.. then why'd you just start walking off like that if you didn't know where it is?” I asked hoping she didn't answer with an ‘I don't know’ sort of answer. “Because I thought It would be fun to guess and also it's fun to just wander around with you” she said like she wasn't wandering around in the most dangerous forest in equestria and there weren't manticores or timberwolves living in it. “But what if a wild animal finds us and tries to gobble us up? I nervously ask shivering at the thought. To emphasize my point that we aren't alone we hear a distant howling noise. Gulping, I turn to her to see she's looking at me looking a little frightened which I couldn't quite blame her for sense that's just how I felt. “W-w-was t-that a t-t-timber w-wolf?” She says not able to hold her nervousness back. “I-I t-think so” I stuttered, “...m-maybe w-we sh-should head b-back.” Y-ya, that sounds l-like a g-great idea!” She says trying miserably to sound confident. We turned around immediately to start heading back at a slightly faster pace hoping that we wouldn't disturb any of the residents of the forest. We didn't get far before we heard growling coming from somewhere to our right. We froze immediately slowly turning to our right to see if we could see the owner of the growl. The darkness made it impossible to see past the first few trees but as we started calming down thinking it was just the wind and our frightened minds playing tricks on us, we started feeling uneasy, like something was watching us. Then it hit us. “That smell, what is it!?” I tried whispering but was failing with the horrendous smell. “Egh” She exclaims after taking a whiff taking a step back from shock of the putrid stench. We both were wondering what and where the smell came from when a sudden snapping twig from behind us caught our attention immediately silencing us. We slowly turned around silently dreading what we were going to find behind us. “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” we both screamed as two glowing green eyes bore down on us not five feet away and we bolted out of there. We ran so fast that I that the wonderbolts would have been proud. Sadly that timberwolf wasn’t alone as two more joined in on the chase. I tried to fly but my wings were still too weak to produce much lift other then make me seem lighter. Luckily for us being much smaller than the timberwolves we were able to easily duck and weave around all of the trees and low hanging branches that the timberwolves would either have to slow down or risk crashing or nicking a tree. For several minutes we did this until we reached an opening where a very old and ancient ruined building was lying. Not stopping to talk we looked at each other and silently agreed that it would be safer in there instead of out here. It was later that we realized that the Timberwolves had given up on us sometime during the chase but we were too frightened to realize that until we were in the safety of the ruined castle. “I-I can’t believe… t-that w-we got away,” I panted while shivering from the fright. “Y-ya, I-I know w-what y-you m-m-mean” she shakily got out before she collapsed from exhaustion. Stumbling over to her I shakily sat down beside her and tried to comfort her as best i could while she collapsed and started softly crying. “Shhh shhh, you’re safe now,” I said in a calming voice now that my heart rate was getting under control. “The timberwolves are gone and we’re both fine, we just need to lay low for a bit until the cost might be clear. “But I-it w-was m-my id-idea t-to g-go into th-this Celestia d-d-damned forest,” she said crying and sniffle into my lap. I thought for a moment on what best to say to lessen her guilt at almost getting me killed. ‘Well I didn’t try to stop you now did I," I said with bit of confidence hoping she’d stopped thinking it was all her fault. “Beside we’re both alive and well so does it really matter, they didn’t get us so you shouldn’t beat yourself up about it.” The only response I got was more crying only a little lighter thankfully and after what felt like a couple of minutes she finally stopped crying. After a half hour we decided to get going before we were too late to get home before curfew and set off down the rickety old rope bridge that looked like it had seen much better days. For the first little bit we talked about everything up to that point and she apologized for ruining the date I had been wanting, which I immediately shot down saying it would be a good date no matter what as long as she was with me to share the experience which I received a blush for. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR We both froze and turned around slowly before bolting away from the timberwolf that had snuck up on us. ‘How are they so sneaky and how did we not smell it like last time’ only to mentally face hoof when I realized it was down wind. Then I heard a scream. I looked back eyes widening as I saw my fillyfriend lying on the ground where she tripped over a root. I turned around and tried to race back to her but before I could the timberwolf came into the clearing and before she could so much as move and inch the timberwolf sliced open her barrel. She let out the loudest scream I have ever heard in my life. I stopped dead in my tracks and hit behind a tree. The timberwolf in front of me started howling but no response was heard. The Howling snapped me out of my shock and I immediately climbed up the tree I was hiding behind. I looked down at the ground which was a big mistake. The grass around my fillyfriend wasn’t green like it should, instead it was crimson red everywhere and her intestines were starting to slip out her eyes were open but I couldn’t see any life in them. And now I’m here on the ground where I had just fallen from the timberwolf. My leg was in pain but I was too winded and in shock to scream. The ground was wet where I had landed which was odd because the ground wasn’t wet when I was running. Lying on the ground I turn my head to the side and looked into the unmoving emerald green eyes of my fillyfriend. I slowly moved my way towards her and curled up beside her as the timberwolf walked up to me and prepared to end it all as the timberwolf lunged for his neck. Rainbow Dash was flying over close to the Everfree forest when she heard a scream then a howl. Fearing there was a pony in danger she immediately flew at break neck speeds heading in the direction. Suddenly another scream could be heard in the same direction, Rainbow Dash picked up speed thinking she might be too late. She found the location and saw a Timberwolf standing over an object that looked living. Immediately taking action Rainbow dived and flew right into the head of the Timberwolf crushing the head and killing it immediately. Done with that she stood up and looked at the mutilated pony with blood everywhere and organs oozing out of its barrel. On closer examination she realized that it was two ponies, a colt and a filly no older than 13. Sighing she picked them up and slowly flew back to ponyville to find the unlucky families’ who just lost their colt and filly.
