Passage from The Legends of the Everfree Vol. 2

Darkness, there are many legends associated with darkness. Most of them involve the creature being made entirely of dark magic, or something of a similar nature. However there is one worth noting, the legend of the Myrkur. Vague is one word to describe the Myrkur's legend, as very few ponies seem to know it, but a conversation with one of Ponyville's oldest residence blew away some of the fog surrounding this legend. Granny Smith, as she is most commonly known, told us that this Myrkur was something is old as the forest itself.

The Myrkur is apparently a shape shifting beast, and it has total control over the Everfree's weather, shadows, and chaotic magic. It apparently appeared shortly after the defeat of Nightmare Moon, and it supposedly attacked several *'caravans' before disappearing for decades. The funny thing about this creature, is it only shows itself to creatures or ponies affiliated with the moon, the Elements of Harmony or Luna. These ponies seem to be the only ones untouched in the Myrkur's **'attacks', and they walk away with tales of red glowing eyes and sharp talons ripping apart everypony in the immediate vicinity. Though this is questionable, as there were no bodies ever found according to historical documents. This, however, did not deter the stories of a bloodthirsty monster from forming within a decade.

We decided then to investigate the forest itself, even though it had been declared forbidden and find out once and for all whether or not this legend was true. Like always we mounted motion triggered cameras in areas where the Myrkur would likely visit during the night and day. We waited a few days, and when we went back to check on them we were shocked. Before we tell you what happens let us explain that these cameras had enough runes to prevent a hydra from destroying them, these things were almost indestructible. When we went back, as you most likely have guessed, they were ripped to shreds, and most of the film had been incinerated. It was however one photo, and it confirmed our suspicions. The Myrkur exists, and...as our gryphon put it...it flipped us the bird.

This, however vulgar it may be, shows us that it some level of sentience. At first we thought it was mimicking something it saw...but that was the first photo taken of it, and then it ripped the camera a new one. This shows us that it either saw the camera before it took the photo, and managed to flip it the bird within miliseconds, or it watched us set it up...and heard us reassuring our ***guide on what it could do. We have no way of proving either of being true.

*- The 'caravans' were later discoverd to be either Nightmare Moon Occultists, or Smugglers

**- these 'attacks' were always against those who attempted to harm the Everfree, or loot the old castle.

***- we hired a Zebra by the name of Zecora to help guide us through the Everfree, as well as help us find areas where this creature would nest.
