It was a stormy night in Ponyville, everypony stayed in their homes with candles lit and blankets wrapped tight around themselves. At least most ponies were.
The apples were in their home caring for their young ones as they were startled by rough storms. Their youngest, Applejack, had just turned six months old, she would let out cries when it would thunder but her mother cared for her as much as possible, but her father was tending to Big Mac as he was startled as well, he was only three at the time.
Ears in the house perked up when there was still the sound of a foal crying when Applejack had finally fallen asleep, it was distant but most definitely noticeable. The father of the house hold investigated into the crying, he noticed it got louder the closer he got to the front door, so he opened it. The mother and father were shocked to see a human baby laying on the porch, drenched with water from the rain. The mother quickly got the human baby inside, it may have not of been a pony but it was still a child.
"I've only heard of things like this in them old folk tales honey! Why was this youngin' left on our porch?" The husband said to his beloved wife.
The mother held the baby in her arms "I'm not sure, but everything happens for a reason." She obviously was already having a motherly connection with the baby.
"It sure is cute Bright" the husband said to his wife.
Pear looked at her husband "It's a he Pear." She corrected him.
Bright nodded "Okay, what are we gonna do with him?" He asked her with confusion on the matter.
Pear sighed "I suppose we could ask around for his parents." She said while smiling down at the baby.
Bright tilted his head "And if we don't find 'em?" He asked with his deep country accent.
Pear looked up at her husband "Then I suppose we could take care of him." She informed Bright.
Bright swallowed "we could take of 'im, even though that'll cost more money." He finished with a sigh.
Pear smiled down at the baby human "What would we name him? We should be prepared if no pony claims 'im." She asked Bright.
Bright blinked a few times at her "I'm not sure, why don't we think it over" He suggested to her.
Pear nodded "Yeah, let's not rush anything, it's not like we've taken custody of him yet." She said before setting him down beside Applejack in her crib.
Bright sighed before sitting down on their couch "I'm sure Ma will be surprised to see him in the mornin'." He said before resting his head on the sofa.
Pear giggled "She loves foals, I'm sure she wouldn't mind another, even if he ain't a pony." She said before sitting beside her husband.
Bright looked at her "Hopefully this storm will pass by the morning, we need to go and speak with the mayor about the boy."
Pear nodded "Hopefully so." She said before watching the two children share the same crib "Hopefully so." She repeated quietly.
"So you two are telling me that this child was left on your front porch?" The mayor asked the married couple.
Bright nodded "Yes sir, we were wondering what to do about this?" He asked the official.
The mayor looked at the human baby closely "Humans are very rare in Equestria, the only place you would have a chance of seeing one is over seas. Judging how young this foal is then it would be considered a Equestrian citizen, but since it was abandoned then it is a orphan. So, if you want to then we can take the foal and place it into a orphanage." He informed the two.
They looked at each other before Pear spoke "Can we be his parents?" She asked the mayor.
The mayor smiled "Of course, you would just need to fill out some paperwork so we can get a new birth certificate, and we would also have you two marked as the parents." He told them.
Bright nodded "Well, we'd like to do that. Can we do the paperwork now?" He asked the mayor.
The mayor nodded "Absolutely, you two just need to put your signature, personal info and the name you have chosen for your new child." He informed them. The mayor reached into a cabinet and pulled out some paperwork for them to sign.
The two parents filled out the paperwork and looked at each other when they were asked to assign a name to the child.
Pear sighed "What do you want to name him?" She asked her husband.
Bright stared at the boy before smiling "Let's be unique... How about a name that hasn't been used." He asked his wife.
Pear rubbed her chin "How about... Red Jack Apple?" She asked her husband.
Bright nodded "I like it, we can call him RJ for short." He agreed with her decision.
They signed the name down on the paper before giving it to the mayor.
The mayor smiled "You will receive your documents stating that you two are the parents and you will also receive his birth certificate in the mail in a few days. Congratualations on the new child!" He said before the two left with their new child.
Big Mac stared at his new brother "How old is he?" He asked his parents.
Pear smiled at Mac "He's a little bit older than Aj, so he is around seven months old." She informed him.
Big Mac smiled "I've always wanted a brother, now I'll have somepony to play games with!" He said with excitement.
Bright chuckled "Yup, and now I have two boys to keep an eye on." He said before patting Big Mac on his head.
Pear held the two children in both arms, caring for their needs at any moment.
"Why does he look different ma?" Big Mac asked with curiosity.
Pear smiled gently at him "He's a different kind of foal, but he acts the exact same. He's as good as any other pony is in Equestria." She explained to the young colt. Pear looked down at her new son "you're as good as any other pony is."
Big Mac smiled at his new brother "I'm gonna go and play outside!" He said before running out of the front door.
Pear sighed before looking at her human child "You're gonna be something when you grow up, I just know it." She said before stroking Rj's cheek gently.
