Scootaloo's Secret
The Present
Previous ChapterNext Chapter"Daniel?" Scootaloo sniffles.
"Yes Scootaloo?" I ask back with a smile.
"I.... I made you something after you left us. I wanted to give it you.... Can I give it to you?" Scootaloo asks with a blush.
"Of course. I'd love to have something made by you." I answer.
My heart flutters for a second at the mention that she made me something. I put Scootaloo back down on he ground. She takes a deep breath and heads out of the room.
'I wonder what it is.' I think to myself with an excited smile.
I can hear Scootaloo re-enter the room. A few seconds later I see her slide through a gap in the rubble with a small rectangular, red box, peaking out from a bag on her back.
"H-Here it is. I don't know if you'll like it.... I'm sorry if you don't like it. I'll get you something else.... If you don't." Scootaloo finishes with a gulp.
"Of course I'll like it. You made it yourself, it's already the perfect gift." I say as I pet her head.
She blushes and starts to lighty kick at the ground. Her socks causing the noise from her gentle kicking to become muffled and nearly impossible to hear. After a few seconds she takes a deep breath and grabs the present in her mouth and holds it out in front of her for me to grab. I grab it and can see small bits of the present due to small holes being made where she held it in her mouth and her teeth made small rips.
US
That's what I can see through the holes in the paper. I smile and start to carefully unwrap it. Inside is a picture. Not just any picture though, one with a child like drawing of Scootaloo and me stood next to each other with smiles on our faces in a small wooden frame with the word US scribbled above us. I look at it and a huge wave of happiness washes over me. I look up at Scootaloo and see her staring at the ground.
"I love it. Thanks a lot Scootaloo. I especially love the drawing." I say as I pick her up into a hug.
"Really?" She asks as she stares into my eyes.
"Yes. Really." I give her a straightforward answer.
She blushes heavily.
"W-What did you like the most?" She asks.
"The fact that it has you and me together in it." I answer.
Scootaloo smiles and hugs me back.
"You really know how to make me happy." She says with a sniffle.
I smile and pet her mane. Small tears start to stream down Scootaloo's cheeks.
"Thank you. Thank you for being here for me, you're the best friend I could've ever asked for." Scootaloo sniffles.
"I'll be here for you. I'll be here everyday, everynight." I whisper into her ear.
She shivers in my arms.
"Thank you. Is it okay.... if I cry? Just for a bit?" Scootaloo asks choking on her own voice.
"Of course."
She starts to cry into my chest, her tears soaking my body. I hold her, not letting go for even a second, even after my arms started to ache I still didn't let go. After nearly a solid hour she finally stops crying and just starts to lightly breath into my chest.
"Thank you. For letting me cry, for.... just being here. For being a warmth that I really needed." Scootaloo mumbles into my chest.
"You don't need to thank me. I'd have done it whether you'd asked me to or not." I reply.
Scootaloo's breathing speeds up as if she's in a panic about something.
"Are you okay?" I ask.
"Y-Yeah. I'm fine." Scootaloo answers.
"Okay." I mumble.
Scootaloo looks at my face and smiles. She then licks her lips and slowly starts to get closer to my face.
"Are you sure you're okay?" I ask.
She suddenly stops and pulls her face away from mine.
"Y-Yeah. I'm just.... tired! That's all." She nervously laughs.
"Want me to carry you to your bed?" I ask.
"N-No. I'm okay trust me. Good night Daniel!" Scootaloo says as she slides into her bed and goes under her blanket.
"Oh, okay." I reply as I head out of the room.
I climb through the rubble and leave through the door. I'm stood in the hallway right in front of her bedroom door.
"I guess I'll go sit downstairs." I say to myself.
I head down the hallway and down the stairs. The living room is the exact same as it was when I left. I take a set at the living room table and just stare at the table. The dust has already built back up and created another thick layer. I start to draw in the dust using my finger. After a few seconds my drawing is finished. A small snowman in engraved into the dust on the table.
"I still suck at art." I mumble to myself. "I guess I could tidy up a little to pass the time."
I start to wipe the dust off of the table with my arm, causing the side of my arm to become dirty with dust. i continue using my arm to wipe away the dust until most of it is gone. I then head into the kitchen and use the sink to wash my arm. I then grab a small hand towel and dampen it. I then head back into the living room and back to the table. I then start to wipe the table clean with the hand towel. I smile as I look at my work and at the now clean table. The oak of the table is now visible.
"I think I did a pretty good job." I say to myself.
I then take the hand towel back to the kitchen and use the water from the sink to clean the dust off of it. I then wring the hand towel dry before leaving it on the kitchen counter.
"I need to check what else there is to do."
"Daniel!" Scootaloo calls me from upstairs.
I walk back to her room, through the living room, up the stairs and then into her room.
"Yes Scootaloo?" I ask as I climb through the rubble.
"I-I need to give you.... Give you o-one more p-p-p-present. I-If that's okay w-with you." Scootaloo stutters.
"You don't have to be so nervous. I'll accept any gift from you." I reply.
Scootaloo takes a gulp and then pats on the bed next to her. I know what she's asking me to do, so I sit down on the bed next to her.
"C-Close your eyes please."
"Okay." I reply as I close my eyes.
