Author's Note
Hey! Welcome to my second MidDream fanfic! This is in Daydream's POV instead of Midnight's like the last one. Hope you enjoy!
Daydream Finds Out
Here, right here and now, I stood in Midnight's room, MIDNIGHT PERSEPHONE SPARKLE'S ROOM, with her DIARY out in front of me, clear as crystal.
I hadn't meant to look.
I hadn't meant to intrude.
It just "attacked" me when I touched it as I was looking for a spell book. But, now, here I was, looking at her diary. Each word was written in her hand, nothing too juicy, despite the fact that she was practically a celebrity.
I was reading something that she had written months ago. The pages back up there were old and a little worn with age.
"I went to the mall with Shooting Star and Ice Heart today," I imagined Midnight's voice as I read the words.
"I felt really bad because I didn't invite Daydream. My friends told me I shouldn't invite her because she's "a demon." I was so stupid and I went along with them. I felt so guilty the whole trip and I was constantly hoping that Daydream wouldn't show up and feel betrayed," She wrote, making my wings droop.
That had been pretty hurtful, but it's not like I'm not used to it. People call me a demon to my face all the time, and it's also at an unbelievable rate. I understand why she wouldn't have invited me. I could see just from those few sentences how badly she felt.
Still, I kept reading.
"When I got home, you'll never believe what I saw. It was horrific to see. Daydream had been trying to fight a loose Daybreak, which is what is left over from Daydream's transformation into Daybreaker from the Fall Formal incident. She was losing. Today, I felt something primal awake inside me. It was almost uncontrollable. I felt like I needed to protect her at all costs, nothing else mattered. I fought the Daybreak and banished it to the dimension where my friends and I dump gross stuff into. Serves it right!"
I blinked at what I was reading. Yes, I remembered that. Midnight had rushed in and saved me. She banished the Daybreak.
"I can't believe it tried to hurt Daydream like that. I was so mad. If I hadn't left the house and stayed with her, she wouldn't have gotten hurt. It's all my fault."
Hearing Midnight say something like that wasn't what I was used to. But I have to remind myself sometimes, she does care about me. She always has. The thought made my heart flutter. I flipped forward a few pages, biting my lip in excitement.
"Daydream and I went to the Great Galloping Gala last night. HOT DAMN!"
I flinched at reading the swear word in all caps.
"Daydream was so stunning! She was wearing a beautiful orange dress that showed just the right amount of cleavage and WOW I was trying to not drool all night!"
My mouth fell open as I gawked at the writing on the page. Midnight thought I was hot? ME?! Midnight Persephone Sparkle! THINKS DAYDREAM CHERRY SHIMMER IS HOT!! ME!! I practically squealed as I did a little dance around the room, but remembered to be quiet. I picked up the book again and flipped forward a few more pages.
"I made a new friend about two days ago. Her name is Youth."
I paused as I read the name. This diary entry was made about a month ago. Huh...
"Youth loves to bake cookies for me and the girls. I can't wait to introduce her to Daydream."
Okay... I guess I'll act surprised? I flipped the pages back a little, trying to look for more things about me in there. Eventually, I found what I was looking for.
"I couldn't stop thinking about Daydream today. I really miss her so I just have to write about her right now. I love it when she does that cute thing with her hands when she's nervous. It's so adorable to see her all fidgety."
I practically set the book on fire! SHE THINKS I'M CUTE!! OH MY GOSH!!
"Sometimes, I dream about her. My favorite ones are when she's holding me and I'm holding her too. She'll look up at me with her big beautiful eyes and she'll ask me if she wants to kiss me. I say yes, then I ask for permission to kiss her. She pulls me down to her and we kiss. But, I bet her lips won't be as soft as in real life. I usually wake up after we kiss, and I come to terms and guess that it will never be real."
The entry ended there, leaving me speechless. Oh my gosh. She wants to kiss me. She's kissed me in her sleep. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. I began to feel dizzy but I pushed on. I flipped the page to the latest entry, my hand shaking.
"I almost lost the love of my life today. Daydream protected me. She shielded me. Stupid, stupid Daydream! I could've lost her!"
I paused, feeling tears come to my eyes. This had been this morning. A dragon had attacked. I remember specifically that I had pushed Midnight out of the way of a puff of flame that the dragon had breathed.
"She had no idea how badly she scared me. I thought she was hit! I thought she had died without ever knowing that I love her! Well, diary, I've made up my mind. I'm going to tell her how I feel tonight. I can't deny the way she makes me feel anymore. I can't deny the fact that she makes me want to go several times around multiple worlds as fast as I can. I'm telling her. I'm telling her tonight."
The entry ended there.
And there I stood.
She was going to tell me. She was going to tell me how she felt. Tonight. I wasn't sure what I was feeling. Joy, sadness, wonder, confusion? I couldn't tell. My eyes teared up as I closed the book and began proceeding to put it on the shelf. I grabbed the spell book I was looking for and began slowly heading out of Midnight's room. What was I to say? Act surprised? I mean, I can't just confess that I read her diary and know how she felt about me. I quickly turned the corner, only to bump into the girl who desired me.
"Ow!" We both cried out as we fell over. I had dropped my spell book and Midnight had dropped her gaming system.
"Uh, sorry," Midnight said, quickly, grabbing my book and her game. She lifted me up, looking completely embarrassed. I could smell her lavender perfume. It smelled good.
"It's okay," I said, taking my book. We both stood there in awkward silence for a few moments. Midnight cleared her throat.
"S-so... do you wanna... maybe... go to the roof?" Midnight asked nervously, running the back of her neck. I could see her pointed teeth poking out of her lips, which were curved in a soft grimace. I felt my stomach tighten.
"I'd love to," I replied, straightening my jacket. This is really happening.
Midnight took my hand and led me back into her room, where she took me out onto the balcony. We flew up into the night, before sitting on part of the roof. I could see everything up here. The houses of other people, the night sky. Everything.
"Is there something you want to say, Middy?" I asked, putting my hand on her knee. I could feel and see her visibly tense up.
"Y-yes. A-and it's very important," She said, placing her hand over mine. It felt really warm. Midnight took a few breaths. My heart was beating so fast. Would it have been beating slower if I hadn't read her diary?
"This is something I've wanted to say to you for a long time and... my nerves always get in my way. It's very hard to say but... Daydream... I.. I think you're a really good friend," She said, not meeting my eyes.
"What?" I said. I was completely shocked. I'm just... a good friend? What was that whole "the love of my life" thing? Had I dreamt the whole scenario?
"I know. It's stupid. I should be able to say that you're my best friend. I don't know w-why it's so hard," Midnight rambled, her face and tone showing a completely different story.
"Maybe it's because you love me?" I said, boldly lifting her chin with my hand. I hadn't expected myself to do anything like this. Midnight's lips trembled.
"I'm sor-" I silenced her by pressing my lips onto hers. I felt her flinch, but she relaxed and kissed me back. I felt her caress my face with her cupped hand. Her fingers glided across my cheek as her warm lips moved on mine. When we pulled away, which seemed all too soon, I smiled at Midnight.
"Daydream, I had no idea that..." she stopped herself, a little grin pulling at her lips. "Wow."
"Wow what?" I asked, playfully punching her arm.
"Hehe. The girl of my dreams just kissed me. On the lips," Midnight said, rubbing her arm where I had punched.
"So, do you want me to be your girlfriend now, or what?" I asked, scooting closer to my dream girl. She smirked.
"I love you, Dreamy," Midnight said, pulling me close as she put her wing around me.
"I love you too," I said, kissing Midnight's cheek. She blushed, her purple face turning red. I'm so happy this turned out fine. I think everything's going to be okay.
