//-------------------------------------------------------// The Watchful Thestral -by Naja nivea- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// New Reassignment //-------------------------------------------------------// Author's Note First story on this site I decided to type up which turns out to be just a pilot for this story idea, but if it does decent I'll continue forward with making more chapters upon it. Rapid knight - Purple Midnight Vision - Grey Moonlight - Light blue A New Assignment Rapid Knight trotted down the corridors of the castle making his way ever so slowly toward his captain's office after receiving a waxed sealed letter containing orders for him to meet his captain for a new assignment the day prior. He cursed for having to wake up bright and early right before the sun raised and to add wound to injure it was his day off. He sighed and, doing so, groaned about how he would have preferred to have been snuggling deeply in his bed while cuddling his ferret. Turning down another corridor he finally had his sight on his destination. He was now in front of his captains office about to knock before he seen his reflection upon the glossy reflective door and seen that he was rather rocking bedridden mane. He placed his hoof down then vastly as he could tried to straighten his appearance to somewhat appropriate standards, afterwards took a deep breath ready to continue forward with his action. Three knocks later he heard some racket behind the door and his captain calling to enter. Rapid knight entered to see his captain engaged with paperwork not having looked up yet to see who has entered. Rapid knight trotted toward the desk making sure to stand 5 hoof steps away before addressing his presence. "Rapid knight reporting in for new assignment, Sir." He saluted. "At ease, knight." Midnight vision spoke looking up from his paperwork and begin to slide it aside for the moment. Rapid knight put his hoof down then began to trot forward to take a seat in front of the desk after his captain motioned his hoof toward the chair. After taking his seat he then patiently awaited for his captain to speak. Midnight vision waited until Rapid knight was seated then simply pulled out a folder from under his desk. "Well Rapid knight the reason I called you here today was for a new assignment that I personal think would be suited very well for you since reading your record, I also might add that I'm pretty impressed by what I've seen; Somepony so young passed each course with high marks across the board which got you selected for this task out of all the other recruits." Rapid knight listened quietly just soaking in the information the captain was saying and was rather surprised the captain was praising his high marks. In all honesty Rapid didn't have it easy in getting them, but he damn sure pushed himself in achieving the accomplishments. Many hours/days reading books in the public library and devoting his youth to learning what he did now, it was a road less traveled that many wouldn't bother going down since the loneliness, but in order to get ahead one needed to know knowledge. Also most ponies didn't bother to help or turned a blind eye to orphaned colts and fillies which forces upon them to either grow strong or rot away. "Rapid knight are you listening", Midnight vision spoke. Rapid quickly snapped out of his thoughts and sheepishly spoke "Sorry, sir. I lost track of what you were saying." Midnight vision sighed and decided to give Rapid the short jest "Well that was to be expected after all I happened to drop a lot of info onto you, but to give you the short version the task I bestowed upon you is protecting a very important royal official starting next week, so if need to you can inform your fellow guard ponies you've been assigned with and afterward head over to the armory for your new issued armor and equipment for your position. I might also add that you will be relocated to new living quarters near your royal official for quicker access. That happens to be all I wanted to discuss with you so you may leave and enjoy your day off." Midnight vision hoofed over the folder on his desk to Rapid and dismissed him. Rapid knight was about to ask his captain more info on the pony he was suppose to protect until the captain hoofed over a folder with a sticky note attached written with a sentence saying "All questions you may have regarding your task are within this document," Rapid took the folder sliding it under his right leathery wing saluted then quietly made his way out. After making his way out Rapid dropped his posture and quietly sighed. Well that could have gone better, but I got lost in my thoughts about old memories I'd rather forget about, like I tell myself it was all for the better of getting out off that depressing place even though my loving caretaker was there for me ever step of the way it didn't ease my burden from the others. I was different after all my appearance was that of a thestral from mythical myths which caused many commotion and led to beatings from the others to point I kept spiting myself of this stupid accursed curse the celestial gods bestowed upon me. I learned to fight back after the many beatings I received to make them leave me alone to the point many feared me for what I would do to them if they crossed my path then of course rumors started about me. I played the part so they would leave me to my own devices and from that day forward I dedicated myself to my studies to better myself. It went on like that for most of my youth until my caretaker popped the question of what I wanted to accomplish in my life or if I had any careers in mind. I of course opened my mouth to answer her question, but my mouth moved without any words being spoken. She ruffled my mane while giving me her ever so loving smile which filled my heart with happiness while adding I still had time to decide and there was no rush. She was the only pony who actually loved me for me; bothered to take me in when no other pony would; provided me with love, shelter, and food. I couldn't ask for anything more. So I helped her anyway I could with that being cleaning, cooking, and being there whenever she needed me. It was the only way I could every repay her. Coming back to reality I seem to have made my way toward the armory without even knowing it. I was about to make my way in before I was tackled playfully by somepony. I was confused on what the buck happened until I heard a girlish laughter fill my ears, of course it had to be no other then Moonlight. "Hey there knighty fancy running into you here of all places with it being your day off and all or is it that you just missed dear old Mooney's company. If so I'm honored that you finally decided to accept my feelings after so long." Moonlight snuggled Rapid on the marveled titled floor. Rapid knight tried to gave Moonlight a deadpan look, but the snuggling made it hard "Sorry, but that's not the case. I'm just here because I got called into meet with the captain for a new assignment and was just about to get my new gear I was assigned for my new position. Now would you do me a huge favor which would involve getting off of me, Please." "You know knighty it would do you some justice to at least be flustered since it's not everyday a cute mare simply tackles a stallion and snuggles them in love. I swear sometimes I think your barn doors swing the other way with how you simply don't show any attention to the opposite sex." Moonlight spoke while adjusting her uniform. "Yeah well probably someday when I decide to hop on the bandwagon I'll be sure to inform you about it. Also you really should stop doing that since the others will start spreading rumors about us being an item and I highly doubt I could handle the attention or bickering." Rapid spoke while dusting himself off. "Yeah, about that..." Moonlight rubbed the back of her mane sheepishly. "Please don't tell me what I think your about to say!" Rapid spoke shaken-lee while his eyes dilated. Moonlight shuffled childishly while rubbing her neck."Yeah, I'm not going to go any farther then that since it seems like your about to pass out about the whole thing." "Lets out a breath, well that's not surprising I suppose. So how far are these rumors going with the whole thing, hopefully nothing to crazy." Rapid decided to put on his calm facial facade to hide his emotions from the world about the situation. "Nothing to bad from what I've been hearing, so were safe for now. Still I couldn't believe us being anything else, but friends no offense or anything." Moonlight started making her way to the armory, "Same, but you wound me dear Mooney I'm I not a stallion worthy of your love or have you just been toying with my poor little heart." Rapid switched over to his more mellow chromatic humor. "What! not at all knighty. I could dial it back a little if you wish." Moonlight looked back staring face to face with Rapid. Rapid decided to pull out his trap card and quickly lifted his head up while his hoof trailed up moonlight's neck. "I could show you so much more if you'd just let me." Moonlight felt a shiver travel down her spine when Rapid said that and his face being so close to hers that there lips where practically centimeters apart left her flustered. She stuttered trying to form words but nothing came out except gibberish. Rapid was surprised to get this sort of reaction out of Moonlight and told himself he might have laid the humor on to thick. He was always a stranger when it came to interacting with others that sometimes he pushed bounties. So he quickly dropped the act. "Sorry Moonlight, but I did it again and laid the humor on to thick. So lets just forget this ever happened." Rapid knight parted ways with Moonlight after the whole incident and went off to get his armor while having to deal with a bruised hoof that Moonlight re-payed him with for toying with her emotions while she trotted off with rose colored cheeks. Rapid seen his destination ahead and was about to head toward the window were the pony issued equipment out until he seen the pony point his hoof off to a far corner were he believed his armor was located. He waved off the pony for his help and trotted off toward the corner were he was surprised to see his new armor because unlike the standard ones this was repainted in a dark blue and black twin tone paint job while the emblem of equestria was replaced with a crested moon. The armor upon closer inspection was not made of gold, but steel ten folded casting which was very rare to be seen since not many were made of this material. It brought a thought to his head that who ever he was meant to protect within the next week was some very important noble or something if he was being armed with nothing but the best the royal guard had to offer along with two short silver daggers. After packing up the new armor and equipment he headed off back to his condo he's been renting out of the castle even though the barracks were rent free along with food Rapid preferred to have his own space and another reason was he never did well with other ponies expect Moonlight who was probably the only pony he could say he preferred to call a friend of some sort. He also would have informed the others in his squad, but neither one of them wanted anything to do with him so he just left them uniformed with the exception of Moonlight. He was now standing inside his condo ready to call it a day and pack up what little furniture he had later on tonight for the move to his new living arrangement within the next week. He trotted toward his bedroom and placed his equipment to the side while making his way to the desk to read up a bit on his new position that the folder would provide him.
