Spike was at the headquarters where the AEL monsters were tracked by the Royal monarchy, Celestia was briefing ponies on the situation of the closing days in the war against the AEL's it has been a few years since Spike joined in the fight and they were already closing in on the main birthing room where the monsters were created, they were planning on destroying it so that they can finally end the war.
"Today we will end this war if we destroy the main chambers of the AEL and blow it up, Now since its to risky to send a strike team in the only way we can attack the place is if we send in a single individual, I know what your all thinking, your thinking that it is to risky to do that and I agree but do you really want to keep this war going for the next several years?" Celestia asked, the defense league knew that she had a point so they agreed with her.
"So who will stand up to the challenge? Who ever is brave enough to go alone please step forward!" Celestia asked, everypony looked around as all of them hesitated to carry out the mission and that disappointed Celestia as none of them were brave enough to carry out the mission.
"It's a suicide mission Princess, if a pony tries to attack that place then they get killed in mere seconds, that place is crawling with AEL's, nopony is crazy enough to go in there and even if we send a strike team it's just as dangerous. I'm not going." Shining Armor ranted.
"I'm not going either Princess, I've already been killed by one of those creatures so I won't be going again, I know his is important but count me out." Twilight told her. Celestia sighed as she knew that it would be difficult trying to get ponies to go in there and take down the AEL's once in for all as it was dangerous.
The ponies looked around at the defense league members and the princess's and finally they heard a voice volunteering to go in to the AEL hive.
"I'll go" Spike said, the defense league members looked at him in shock, Twilight started to protest.
"Spike please don't do this! I'm to afraid to loose you!" Twilight begged, Spike shook his head.
"No Twilight I must do this if we are ever going to succeed in defeating these horrific creatures then I must do what I think I must do!" Spike told her, Twilight began to cry but Spike just shrugged and just told her he had to help out in defeating the AEL's. Spike looked at Celestia and she nodded in confirmation to him, telling him that he can volunteer. Twilight hugged him but then Spike had to pull away so he can prepare.
"Who else shall volunteer, we need two volunteers at least so that one can carry the bomb? Who is brave as Spike to see the mission to the end?" Celestia asked, then before they could guess Sweetie Belle walked up to volunteer. Rarity panicked.
"Sweetie Belle no! It's to dangerous! Your just a filly!" Rarity begged her. Sweetie Belle looked at the ground and gained her strength to talk.
"I can carry the bomb Rarity! Spike will need my help, I'm small like him, I can crawl through difficult spaces and use my magic to hold off the enemy as Spike places the bomb in there, so unless anypony else has a better idea then I must be allowed to help Spike!" Sweetie Belle spoke.
"No I don't want to loose you!" Rarity yelled as she started to cry.
"I'm sorry sis but unless anypony else has a better idea then I must be allowed to go!" Sweetie Belle ranted, Sweetie Belle looked at Princess Celestia for permission to go with Spike, Celestia hesitated but sighed and spoke.
"Alright...it looks like we have our...volunteers..." Celestia said, as the ponies left the room Spike spoke to Sweetie Belle.
"You do know that there is a slight possible chance that we will be killed?" Spike asked her, Sweetie Belle spoke.
"To many ponies have already died in this war, our deaths are better than a thousand more ponies dying. I'm sorry but it's the truth." Sweetie Belle said, Spike looked out the window in silence as Sweetie Belle thought to herself, Sweetie Belle and Spike stayed at the headquarters as they were briefed on the mission.
Spike practiced carrying the bomb and ducking while Sweetie Belle practiced some defensive spells, they practiced all day until they were ready to go through with the mission. A day before the mission Rarity was able to see Sweetie Belle and talked to her for an entire hour in case she never saw something.
"In case I don't come back alive Rarity I wanted to keep this." Sweetie Belle said as she handed Rarity a necklace that said best sister on it, it was cheesy but beautiful, Rarity cried as she hugged Sweetie Belle.
"I love you!" Rarity sobbed, Sweetie Belle told her that she loved her as well, they couldn't hug all day so they both let go of eachother and Sweetie Belle left for the final time. Sweetie Belle slept at the headquarters and then woke up the next day to prepare with Spike for the mission.
When they were ready they were transported to the home of the AELs before they went in a defense league guard wished them good luck. Spike and Sweetie Belle entered the restricted area and saw that AEL eggs were everywhere.
Sweetie Belle carried the bomb as Sweetie Belle and Spike walked slowly through the cave. Soon they came upon several creatures so Spike held them off as Sweetie Belle navigated through the chasms.
Spike followed her as fast as he could, they needed to be quick, the monsters chased after them, they tried to close several doors to try and slow them down but the monsters tried to surround them so they took a shortcut and went to the next area.
"We need to get the bomb to the center so that when we detonate it, it will kill evey single monster and end the monsters for good!" Sweetie Belle yelled as they ran throughout the area.
Spike pushed his speed to the limit as he ran as Sweetie Belle fought the monsters as she used several spells, she even protected Spike with a shield at some points as well, they could feel that they were almost there. They had to make it for Equestria, they needed to see the mission through.
Soon they made it to the main chamber they set the bomb down but before eye could set the bomb to detonate Sweetie Belle was stabbed in the back by an AEL, Spike screamed out her name as Sweetie Belle fell down.
Spike fought and killed the creature and then turned to see Sweetie Belle he tried to put pressure on Sweetie Belle's wound as more creatures tried to enter in from the ceiling, Spike wanted to get Sweetie Belle out. Sweetie Belle winced as she spoke in a weak voice.
"Spike you must listen to me, you have to get out of here! Leave me behind and save yourself, I'll set the bomb on a timed explosion so you will have enough time to get out!" Sweetie Belle told him, Spike wasn't having it though.
"No! I'm not leaving you here to die with these things! I'll carry you!" Spike protested, Sweetie Belle spoke to him as she quickly shot down his idea.
"Spike I'll slow you down if you carry me! You must get out alive! I'm done for Spike, it's the end for me, I don't want us both to die and they are expecting somepony to come out alive, please you must leave me, besides when do I ever get the chance to be the hero?" Sweetie Belle asked, Spike looked at the monsters trying to get in.
"But what about Rarity!? And your friends!? What do I tell them!?" Spike asked her, Sweetie Belle hugged him.
"You tell them that I love them Spike, you tell them I love them you have at least two minutes!" Sweetie Belle said, Spike started to cry but nodded, Sweetie Belle urged him to go, Spike hesitated but Sweetie Belle ordered him to go and he escaped without her. Sweetie Belle waited for Spike to get out.
The monsters started to try and break into the room as Sweetie Belle hovered her hoof over the detonation switch, she needed to give Spike enough time to get out, Spike ran as fast as he could while monsters chased him, his allotted time clicked downward as he ran to the exit, Spike cried as the monsters tried to catch him, he finally made it out.
Sweetie Belle saw the monsters break into the room so she closed her eyes a she prepared for death and then once she thought about how much she loved her sister she detonated the bomb with her hoof and it exploded, the explosion killed her and all of the monsters.
Spike was already a safe distance away from the hive of the monsters as he watched it explode, ponies ran up to it and cheered when they saw that they had finally ended the AEL monster reign, ponies cheered for Spike as they celebrated his victory over the monsters, Rarity walked up to the crowd searching for Sweetie Belle.
"Where is she!? Please tell me she's okay!? Where is she!? Where is my little sister!?" Rarity begged franticly. She saw Spike, the crowd celebrated around them as the crowd spread out to celebrate in order to give them space. Spike had no idea how to tell Rarity the truth.
"Spike where is my sister? Is she okay?" Rarity asked as she saw that Spike was the only one standing there. Spike hesitated but he had to tell her. So he gained enough courage to tell her and he explained what happened.
"I'm sorry Rarity...I tried to get her out but she sacrificed herself to protect the bomb from the monsters...she stayed there... I begged with her to escape with me but...she decided to stay there in order to protect the bomb...she told me to tell you that she loved you......she was killed...in the explosion....I'm so sorry Rarity." Spike said as tears filled his eyes.
Rarity stared at him as she couldn't believe what she was hearing, she started to cry loudly as Spike hugged her, a few days later a memorial was built for Sweetie Belle which Rarity went to visit, Rarity placed a flower on her sisters memorial and sobbed loudly.
Rarity walked away while crying, a few days later the AEL alert system was decommissioned as the AEL monsters were gone so they didn't need it anymore. Over time the defeat of the AEL monsters were taught in history and statues of Sweetie Belle and Spike were built in their honors. The AEL defense force was decommission and the and the education guides and equipment that was used by the defense force were put on display for the citizens.
Ponies finally moved on from the tough years that they had faced as they were glad that the trouble with the AEL monsters was over. Ponies were relieved that the monsters were dead. Rarity began to go to therapists so they could help her cope with her sister's death and after a while she was able to cope with the reality that her sister was gone. She finally moved on but she still thought about Sweetie Belle every now and then.
Equestria finally moved on as they were glad that the AEL invasion was over with. They knew that they were able to pull through the war with the AEL's and that was just what they did. They would always remember and memorialize the events of the war against the AEL's
