Shadow Dawn
The Elements of Harmony, and their precious princess had finally bitten off more than they could chew.
So thought Chrysalis, Queen of the Changelings. Her plan had been perfect. Impersonate that weakling foal, Twilight Sparkle, and then make her move against the Princess at midnight, when she was known to be weakest. It hadn’t all gone to plan, of course, and the “Element of Magic” had escaped before the dark queen could trap her, but still, bound against the wall, with her Friends and Princess by ropes of secretion at the heart of her new realm was good, now she could draw directly on the love they all held for each other. Casually, she stepped towards the lavender Mare, and slashed at her face with a clawed hoof, hoping to draw sustenance from the shared pain, but instead, something very different happened.
“STAY THE BUCK AWAY FROM HER YOU BEAST!The Royal Canterlot Voice ripped through the main dining room where the confrontation had finally taken place, and the parasitic queen felt herself blasted away from the Pony, and hit the wall on the far side, leaving an indent where she impacted. Hissing in anger, she dropped to the floor and looked towards the bound princess, Celestia, who regally raised an eyebrow and then shrugged.
The message could not have been clearer, but that was impossible, since every Changeling knew that there was only one being capable of unleashing the Royal Canterlot Voice, and she was bound against a wall.
Twilight Sparkle glanced up into the shadows of the rafters, looked at the Changeling queen, and began to laugh, infuriating her. “You really didn’t think this through, did you?” the Pony chuckled. “You don’t know what to anticipate. Oh, and by the way, you do realise these bonds are just for show, don’t you? I kinda escaped them half an hour ago.”
“Of course I anticipated everything! I attacked when your pathetic princess was weakest, Midnight, I impersonated you, and I bound all of you within my sight! Wait, Wha-” Was as far as Chrysalis got. Twilight nimbly stepped free of her bonds, and shot an arching lightning bolt towards the queen, who deflected it easily. As Twilight grinned, she realised her mistake. Many thing then happened at once. The bolt of lightning split into six, burning away the bonds holding the remaining Ponies down, who all leapt to the floor, ready to fight; a raging Battle between changelings, and the Royal Guards burst through the doors, ignorant of the rubble surrounding them, as the Ponies attacked furiously; A combat formation of six Night Guards dropped down from the roof, forming a circle with a space in the middle, only to be immediately countered by twelve of Chrysalis’ guards rising from the floor encircling the circle, only to quickly retreat as the Night Guards attacked with no mercy for their hated foes; and Finally, the Princess of the Night dropped to the floor, shooting a bolt of Night Magic at the Queen so powerful that Twilight instinctively recoiled and flattened her ears. The seven former prisoners all recognised her, and called out her name in relieved Unison.
“Princess Luna!”
Author’s Note:
I don’t own any of the material in this story aside from the Idea, all rights are owned by their respective owners.
Anyway, I thought I’d chuck you in straight at the deep end with this one. There will be a prequel explaining how this came to be, but I don’t know if it should be a future chapter or a story on its own. Anyway, stick around and see how this turns out. Will The Ponies win, does Canterlot survive, and what happens afterwards. We shall see.
Vengeance of the Righteous
Vengeance of the Righteous.
The Princess of the Night struck with another awe inspiring blast of magic, forcing Chrysalis to dive to one side.
"YOU MAY HAVE STRUCK WHEN MY SISTER IS AT HER WEAKEST, BUT MIDNIGHT IS THE PEAK OF MY OWN GOD-LEVEL POWER!“ Luna screamed at the Queen in the Royal Canterlot Voice. “AND NOW YOU WILL PAY WITH YOUR LIFE!” Drawing a sword too big for any normal Pony to hold from a sheath at her side, yet still holding it in one midnight blue hoof, the Princess advanced.
A Changeling guard smashed into the wall right next to Celestia, Ribs shattered and Limbs oozing green blood, as the Night Guard, always more effective in hoof-hoof combat then their day counterparts, fought with their usual, unflinching, brutal efficiency. With the first of their quarry felled, they pushed forwards even more vigorously, desperately trying to dislodge any small foothold the Changelings might have gained. A scream of pain from the other end of the room distracted the Sun Princess, and the Elements. Celestia’s guards were quickly becoming buried under a rising tide of the lesser changelings, and one of them had just had his legs hacked from under him by one of the parasites. Leaving Luna and her Guards to a fight they clearly had no chance of losing, they leapt into action.
Celestia struck like a cannonball, the first blast of her magic sending a score of changelings spinning into mid air, before smashing against the roof as broken wrecks. Pinkie Pie, with her trademark Confetti Cannon, that Twilight swore she pulled out of thin air, from a distance clearly impossible for confetti to shoot, took three more with her first shot. Surprisingly, Rarity lead the actual charge, Horn glowing with enraged fury, firing bolts of her own into the mass. Changelings were burned left right and centre by it. Applejack, rear hooves flying, immediately bucked several so hard that their skulls and ribs imploded. Rainbow Dash, with her own amazing unarmed combat skills quickly engaged and defeated nearly a dozen more. Fluttershy, with an uncharacteristic show of rage, summoned every animal in the castle grounds. Soon, the very floor shook with the weight of the thousands of creatures charging into the battle. Twilight, meanwhile, stood back with her mentor and combined her magic with the Alicorn’s, so that the blasts of magic flying into the mass were actually two. Very soon, the Guards were fighting free of the pile, allowing Twilight, her friends, and Celestia, to turn back to Luna’s battle, only to see the Princess of Night smashing down with her sword, shattering the shield that Chrysalis had not had before the the battle, driving her opponent into the floor with the force of the strike. Meanwhile, the last few Changeling Guards were backing into a corner, their comrades lying in broken heaps behind the rapidly advancing Night Guard, who had only taken one casualty so far in the battle.
The Changeling army recoiled as their queen fell, many of them turning to dust instantly to feed the life of Chrysalis as it slowly bled out of her. Seeing that their foes were weak, the Ponies pushed forwards to drive the Parasites back. The Elements of Harmony, also sensing it, moved in to crush the remaining changeling guards, and massacred them. It seemed the ponies would be triumphant, and Luna moved in for the kill against her opponent. But Chrysalis had other ideas; with a evil grin on her corrupted face, the Parasite queen seemed to absorb the energy of all the fallen in the room, and used it to roll out of her depression on the floor, with her last six-point star-knife in her hand. Bounding out of the range of the Night Princess, she threw it at the most dangerous Element, Twilight Sparkle. Before she realised what had happened, the Lavender Mare was struck in the neck by the knife, and collapsed, a huge gash torn in her neck. Celestia and Luna looked towards the Queen, pure, unhidden hatred burning in their eyes. Chrysalis gulped as she realised her mistake. The sisters stalked forwards, horns glowing, as the Queen backed against the far wall. The same two words were on each sister’s lips. “No Mercy.” Terrified, the Queen could only cower against the wall, as the bright light of the sisters’ magic built to a crescendo. When they were done, Chrysalis, and her swarm, were only piles of dust on the floor. It was rare that the sisters let their magic run away like that, but, truly, they were furious. An Element Bearer had been harmed in front of them, and might be dying right there. Hate was a very strong motivator.
Unfortunately for the Ponies, Changelings were not the only things that Chrysalis had recruited, and, with her fall, an army of Griffons, recruited from the outlaws too violent for even Griffon culture, took off from where they had lain hidden, and moved in towards Canterlot, dark magic glowing firmly around their forms.
Even as the Princesses and the Elements closed in around their fallen comrade, trying to see if she was still alive, the Next stage of the attack was about to begin. The search for answers about where Chrysalis had returned from would have to be delayed, and an Element Holder would be unable to defend herself if attacked. Whilst Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash could probably take out most of an army between them, with Twilight, the Elements of Harmony were useless. The Royal Guard were on their own, without the magic of the Elements to give them much more than a bit of Combat Support.
