All I own is this story, Lightning Storm (Rainbow's BBBFF). Summary: *Takes place during season 1 for timing purposes but I might have some season two references in there by mistake so please correct me if I do so I can fix them. Thanks!* Time has once again brought it's way back to October twenty eighth. For most, it's just another date on the calendar. For Rainbow Dash, it's the worst day of the year. Two years ago that day, her three year old younger brother, Lightning Storm, was stolen from their cloud home. DING! ... DING! ... DING! Twilight groggily turned and slapped the off. It was October twenty eighth and she had scheduled to help Pinkie Pie set up for a party. For what, she didn't know. Nor, why they had to start setting up for it so early. All she knew is that Pinkie said it was "super duper important". Pinkie Pie even made her Pinkie Pie Promise to help her set up. "Good morning, Pinkie!" Twilight greeted as she entered the cupcake shaped bakery with Spike on her back. "Hiya, Twilight! Hiya Spike!" the pink party pony replied with her unusually optimistic yet extremely goofy big grin, "We better get started if we want this doozie of a party to go on without a hitch!" The three then spent the remainder of the morning setting up various decorations, games and other Pinkie Pie party essentials. By the time noon rolled around, Sugarcube Corner was a complete party perfection minus eight of the guests, who were to be arriving any second now. Within half an hour, all but one party goer had arrived. The one who had not arrived was the most important one of all the guests, Rainbow Dash. "Where is she? I was sure she would come." Pinkie thought out loud as she waited by the window. "Who ya waitin' for, Sugarcube?" AJ asked as she looked at her distraught friend. "Rainbow Dash" she replied. With that the music stopped and the guests all stared at the party pony. "Sugarcube, I know ya mean well, but Rainbow needs some space today of all days." AJ explained to the hostess. With that the party ended as Pinkie didn't find a reason to continue to have this party without the guest of honor. Pinkie told Twilight and Spike that they could go and that she would clean up. So the two left with AJ, who had also offered to help out. "AJ, why Rainbow need her space today?" the studious unicorn asked her work pony companion. "It's really my right to say but I don't want ya to bring this question up to Rainbow, so I'll tell ya." the orange earth pony replied, "It all started about five years ago..." Rainbow waited excitedly out side of the maternity ward. She was going to be a proud and loving older sister to a little bouncing baby brother in less than a few hours. She wished her dad could be there too but he had been sent off to protect Equestria over seas. "Miss Dash, would like to see your little brother?" a kind nurse asked a few minutes later. "Yes please, can I see my mom too?" the teenage pegasus asked as she got off the chair she had been sitting in. "Here's the thing, sweetheart." the nurse refused shakily as she led the young mare through the hospital, "There were complications and well..." The rainbow maned pegasus stopped listening after that. She knew what complications were and she knew that complications during a pregnancy could lead to death of the mare or foal, if not both. Instead of listening she stopped dead in her tracks and said four lone words, "She's gone, isn't she?" The nurse nodded, "Yes, but before going she named him and asked us to give you custody rights. He is healthy and should be ready to leave by tomorrow morning." "What did she name him?" the sky blue pegasus asked emotionlessly. "Lightning, Lightning Storm" the nurse replied as she pointed to a colt through the window of the nursery. He had a grayish blue coat, pacific blue, blue shark and blue sponge mane and alice blue eyes. Two weeks had passed since their mom's death and, though Rainbow put on a brave face for her baby brother, she was scared she wouldn't be able to do enough to keep her little brother safe. She was lucky that Granny Smith had offered to watch Lightning down on the farm while she was working her job as a weather mare because she would have been forced to leave her job and main source of income to watch him. Their dad would be home next month, so she was very excited to see him again. It was night time and Rainbow was getting Lightning all ready for bed. Suddenly, a knock was heard at the door of the cloud house. Rainbow looked through the peephole to see who was wanting to see her at this late hour. Outside her door was a pegasus guard. She opened the door and he only said three words and handed her a letter before flying off, "I'm so sorry." The rainbow maned pony quickly glanced over the letter before rushing inside, tears flowing from her eyes. It had been just a little over a week since Lightning's third birthday party. Rainbow was outside their cloud home taking the trash out when suddenly the sound of breaking transparent cloud, shortly followed by a blood curdling scream, came from Lightning's room. "AHHHHH!!!" Lightning screamed. Rainbow flew as fast as she could to her younger brother's room. What awaited her shall always haunt her memory. The cloud window shattered, the curtains blowing and most terrifying of all no Lightning. Rainbow looked at a picture of her baby brother at his first birthday party, teardrops running down her cheeks. After a few minutes she stopped the tears and just looked at her little brother's cake covered face. "I WILL find you, Lightning! I promise on my element of loyalty! I know you're out there! I MUST find you, you're BBBFF!" she said confidently before getting up to pack for her journey, "I won't be too late! I'll bring you home!"
