Chapters Mutant Ponies: Origin Stories: Sol and Aqua
Yeah, it's our first week in Doctor Hoofman's fancy school for mutants. My sister rather enjoys it but I tend to stick to the background. My sister may not like to admit it, but I am the shyer of the two of us. Often, while she's hanging out with Nymph and the other students, I am shut off in the library alone just thinking, daydreaming, or even just reading or studying. I will sometimes hang out with my sister and with Nymph but more often than not, I spend the days alone.
A few days after we moved to the school, a few days after our dinner and ice cream and frisbee outing, we were happily settled into our dorms. Sol and I were put in the same dorm as we were siblings and had no issues getting along. Not long after we were settled into our rooms, Doctor Hoofman called us out into the main hall and from there, we went on a tour of the campus. My favorite place we went on the tour, aside from the library, was the school gardens. He saw how much I enjoyed the gardens and said that I would be in charge of watering the flowers and trees every week to which I eagerly agreed. It was an excuse to not only use my powers but to also get some alone time in the mornings and afternoons. I was absolutely thrilled. Every day after that, I always went out before the sun and watered the plants and then went out and watered them again in the afternoon, every other day pretty much. Never would I miss watering the plants. Everything was perfect.
A few weeks into our stay at the school, I made a friend in another shy pony named Blissheart. She was a pegasus with a power to make things explode and because of her ability, she was scared, nervous, and shy. Once she saw that I was as shy as she was, we began to talk and got to know each other better. After that, we'd hang out at lunch and she'd help me water the gardens. It was a true joy having her company and I would have it the entire time I was at the school and to me, that was the best part and I know it was for her as well.

A few weeks into our stay in the school, I got immersed beyond compare. I got into the school's drama club, their book club, and their poetry club. I enjoyed every second I was in those clubs as well as every second I was in my classes. I had all sorts of fun classes aside from my two-hour training sessions in the afternoons and one-hour training sessions in the mornings. I was in art class, then the standard classes like English, Old Ponish Literature, Equestrian History, and Chemistry. I was also in a really fun Anatomy class as well. All of them, I absolutely love! I share only my English Class and Old Ponish Literature class with my sister. All of the rest of them, we have on separate blocks which neither of us really mind. After I finish up my classes for the day, I go and chill in a corner near an open window and just sketch or paint with my watercolors. It's just my time to relax once I finish up my classes and I rather enjoy it.
After maybe an hour of drawing, painting, or sketching, I return to my dorm room and get changed for my afternoon training session. I then do my training session for the two-hour time span and do it to a tea, which always impresses the Doctor. I think I'm one of his favorites, to be honest even though he claims he doesn't have favorites. Also after our most recent training session, Aqua introduced me to her friend Blissheart and she's super sweet. She's shy just like my sister. I'm glad the two get along but I could never really get close to a pony that shy unless they were family obviously. Even so, I'm glad my sister is happy and more importantly, I'm glad she's making friends. For her, that's a very big improvement.

I'm so glad my sister has my back and I'm also glad she approves of my friend. I still haven't come out of my shell though. That's still going to take awhile and big sis is finally starting to realize that. I'll never be as outgoing and enthusiastic about everything like she is. That's just not who I am. Now, for my story, I have to share with you guys. It was one day while I was walking to class that I ran into him, a big buff guy, very well built and muscular. Seeing my small size, he hit me to the ground and walked the other way laughing all the while. Not long after that, Doctor Hoofman and my sister came up behind me and picked me up off the ground. "Who was that?" I asked as I looked around somewhat confused and disoriented.
"That's Porter, he's one of the rowdy jocks of the school," responds the Doctor, "he's one of my most troublesome, problematic students."
"Well, that still doesn't give him the right to pick on my sister," Sol chimes in with a mad scowl on her face.
"I'll talk with him in my office, don't worry," responds the Doctor. He and my sister then took me to the nurse's room where they got me all cleaned up. I had a bruise on my head and a few cuts, but other than that and a slight headache, I was fine. Not long after that, I began retreating back into myself, only talking to my sister and Blissheart. I wouldn't talk to anypony else after that and that worried my sister. She held out hope that things would soon change for the better for the both of us and soon they did because, only three weeks later, a new pony named Silver Wings joined the school and she, my sister, and I soon became the closest of friends. Silver also soon became close friends with mine and my sister's friends. We formed our own friend group in the school and for us, always hanging out together constantly, that was the best thing in the world. We'd do game nights together, movie nights together, and even just go to the coffee or ice cream shop together. Things were looking up and I was finally coming back out of my shell. My sister was right. I wasn't going to stay retreated into myself for that much longer thanks to her help and the help of our friends.

The next morning at training, I saw sis over flirting with Heat Boy. That's what I call Fireball. As she did, I just continued to do my training. I was learning to do water tornados that day at training. "Not fair, not fair, not fair," my mind continues to tell me. "Why is sis the one with the cute boyfriend and not me?" Unfortunately, that second part I said out loud and sis heard it. The two of them then stormed out of the room. I felt so bad. I just turned my head away and got back to training. What else could I do? Me trying to apologize would blow up in my face just like it always does.
After morning training, I just went back to the room and locked myself inside. Eventually, sis came after a night out with Fireball and asked me to unlock the door. Unfortunately at that point, I was asleep. She then went and grabbed Silver who used her wings to open the door and let me in. As soon as I heard sis, I woke up. "Sorry, sorry, I didn't mean it!" I blurted out as I sat up.
"The whole I'm jealous of you, sis, thing you mean?" asks Sol.
"Mmhmm," I responded with a sigh. "I really am sorry. I didn't mean to blurt it out aloud."
"I know," responds Sol, "and you're forgiven."
"Thanks," I responded. Sis then comes over and tucks me in while Silver heads off to the trainers dormitory and goes to bed herself. I'm just glad my sister forgave me. To me, the closeness I have with my sister means the world. Without her, I don't know who I'd be.

It was not long after the school was founded that we got the letter. I remember it clear as day. As soon as we got, it moved into the school the next week. Once we were moved in, we met Doctor Hoofman and another one of the professors, a sweet mare named Glisten Glow. She, like the Doctor and the other employees of the school, had mutant abilities of some sort. "So, what do you train us for here? What do you teach us here?" I ask him.
"Yeah, and why us?" adds Aqua.
"Because you two are special, you're a perfect yin and yang living in harmony, the perfect students for this school," responds Doctor Hoofman with a smile.
"Okay, so when do we start?" I respond.
"First thing next Monday morning, this is a week for you to settle in and meet all your teachers," responds the Doctor with a smile. "I'll let you get settled." With that, he left the room and left us alone. We didn't see him again until dinner. At dinner, we talked about shared interests, cracked jokes, and my sister and I told him the stories of how we got our powers. He listened to all of it enthused, to say the least. After dinner, he then took us along with a few other new students out for ice cream and then to play frisbee in the park near the school. We all had a blast. I remember befriending a young pony named Nymph. She could shrink into the size of a thumb and could then fly around while at that size. I had to admit, it was pretty cool. We soon became the closest and best of friends, she, myself, and my little sister. After that day, we all walked to class together, to training together, and even hung out outside of school together. It was great and an experience we would never change for the world.

It was a rainy morning when I was greeted by yet another new student in the hall. "Hey," I said to him in the hall, "what's your name?"
"Fireball," he responds.
"Let me guess, fire powers?" He nods me a yes. "So are mine." I reply with a smile. A few minutes later, my sister comes up to me and gives me a nudge.
"You like him, don't you?" She asks me teasingly.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I?" I respond to her. "He's just like me."
"Well, just be careful," responds Aqua.
"I will," I respond. I then brush her off and go off to give him a proper hello. After awhile of talking, we immediately grow attached to each other and end up going out to the movies together after school that day. All the while, I couldn't help but feel I was blowing my sister off. Luckily, she enjoyed the time alone with Silver and Blissheart which made me glad.
A few hours later, the movie came to an end and we returned to the school and parted ways for the night after a fiery kiss. I then entered the room I shared with my sister. "How was your date with Heat Boy?" She asks me teasingly.
"It was good, we had so much fun, and no, no we did not melt down the theater in case you were wondering," I respond semi-annoyed with her before hopping in my top bunk and falling asleep.
The next morning, my sister and I were up with the sun and headed off to breakfast. Once in the breakfast hall, Fireball came over and gave me a kiss on the cheek. He then sat down next to me and put my hoof in his. All the while, Aqua was giggling to herself, but inside, I could tell that she thought she was losing me and I went over and told her she would never lose me. After all, a sisterly bond will never be broken. Alas, it can be weakened, and that happened today and I could tell. I hope she'll learn to like my boyfriend and see that our bond will still stay strong at the same time but only time will tell. Here's hoping and hooves crossed. That's for sure.
