The Statue Garden
Do you Hear Hissing?
Load Full StoryThe two Pegasi flew at a hawks pace as they made their way across the Equestrian sky. They had passed the last vestige of civilization three days ago and would soon be over the uncharted part of the map. The clouds of this sky were untamed, as was the vast green forest beneath them.
"Corporal, requesting permission to speak." The wing pony flew up to his commander. He was clad in tradition legionary armor that was about half a century older than himself. The dull metal and faded red causing his amber coat to shine all the more. The gentle beige pegasus nodded, but continued to fly in silence.
"What do you think we're going to find out here."
"What do you hope to find out here?" Pansy asked as she surveyed the ground.
"Well of course I'd like to find out what's happening out here, but I would also like to find, fame, fortune, and above all adventure." Flash did a backflip in the air.
"Well doubtless you'll find the third and first out here." Pansy came to a stop. "Hang on, Flash is that a house down there." The Two stopped and looked down at the forest below.
"I think so." He nodded affirmative.
"Let's go down there with luck the may know what has happened to the others." Pansy descended in a gentle downward spiral falling slowly down to the ground below. Flash Magnus dropped straight into a nose dive falling like a ton of bricks to the unyielding dirt below. fell eyes looked on the ground as though it were a challenge to see who would blink first. At the last moment his wings shot out from his sides, and the wind grabbed him pushing against him. He landed on his hooves with a thud. His commander soon joined him on the ground. Not even disturbing the underbrush on the ground. They made their way up to the door and knocked three times.
"Oh my, my. Look what's landed on my door." An old crone opened the door and looked at them with a bemused smile. "Two little pegasus legionaries, how cute. And what do you desire of me?"
"We're looking for our comrades they came through this way heading west. Have you seen them?" Flash asked.
"I've seen a few other pegasus legionaries yes, they came by just a little while ago, but if you're going to catch up with them you'll need something to give you a bit of a boost. I have just the thing for you. Give me your bags." The two legionaries gave the old crone their bags and she dropped several strange pieces of food into them. "These should give you the energy you'll need to catch up with your friends."
"Thank you." Pansy took back the bags and gave the old hag a hug for her help, before the two of them took back to the skies in search of their friends.
"So what do you think should we take the pills that the old crone gave us." Magnus looked the strange thing over. "I don't think I've ever seen any think like this in Equestria."
"I think that we should after all if they were just there only a few days ago then we should be on the right track. Besides I don't think that the old mare meant us any harm." With a nod Magnus unwrapped the small pill shaped object, and tossed it into his mouth. He whooped and gave one to Pansy. When she ate it she was amazed at the burst of flavor and energy that she got from just one pill. "That was amazing." He wings beat faster than they eveer had before as the two of them bulleted away to the west.
Not long after the two of them came upon another small little hut nestled into the forest along, and to the west of the hut was a wonderful apple orchard that went on for as far as the eye could see. "What do you think Corpral?" Magnus asked as he looked down on the little hut.
"I think it's worth investigating." Pansy glided down, and as before Flash darted down to meet his commander on the ground. The two o of them walked up the porch and as before knocked thrice on the door. Which was opened by a creature that could only liberally be called a pony. Behind it came two more pony like figures one much younger the other much older.
"Well lookie here we've got some more of 'em fancy legionaries." The middle Fate looked at the two ponies at their door.
"We're looking for our comrades which way did they go? Please," Pansy asked.
"What was tha'. They wan' our mirror, Tha's a little odd they normally jus want a candied apple. The Fate of the future said. "Well okay ya'll can borrow it."
"They didn't say tha'," the youngest Fate objected.
"Oh hush now, an' don't talk back to your elders." The eldest of the Fates gave them a mirror and waved as the two confused legionaries left.
Soon they arrived in a strange place unlike any place that they had ever been in before. There was a thick unnatural mist all around them. They dove down to the ground not wanting to run into anything. All around them there was a strange hissing that seemed to come from nowhere and everywhere all at once. They made their way further into the fog. Pansy screamed.
"What's wrong." Magnus pulled out his sword, and turned to find Pansy blushing.
"I accidently bumped into this statue and it startled me." Her face was burning bright red. "It's nothing really."
"I would not say that before thinking." A strange hissing voice filled the forest all around them. "These statues are more than just nothing." The two pegasi yelped and jumped together back to back. their wings touching.
"S-stay back." Magnus swung his sword side to side. "I'm warning you."
"Your statement is in need of correction. The only thing that can harm me is my reflection." The strange half zebra half snack creature slithered out of the fog. "Now won't you look me in the eye, and join my statue collection little pegasi." Summer Storm jumped behind his sister who backed up slowly into another statue. "I'm sorry but your trip was in vain, and I win our little game."
"No you don't." Spring Showers pulled out the mirror that Granny Smith had given her. With a shriek Zecora pulled back. There was a second of silence before the old zebra started laughing, joined with two cheers as Rumble and Scootaloo picked up their two kids.
"Thanks for the game Zecora." Spring Showers laughed as her dad picked her up. Zecora drank a potion her hind legs returning to normal. "No problem it was quite fun now let's have some candy that our little game is done."
