Twilight's Sun

Of her many years on the planet, the time Celestia spent with her student Twilight Sparkle were by far the slowest. For the first time, Celestia felt a connection to normal pony life. She could savor every moment they spent together to truly be content with life.

Celestia had long known the inevitable end to their relationship but one night when Twilight was young it hit her like a tonne of bricks. Shining Armour, the captain of the royal guard and Twilight's brother had been wounded in combat and was in a coma for what seemed forever. Twilight came rushing to find Celestia, tears streaming down her face... Angry.

'P-Pr.. Celestia, how could this happen?'

'Ah, Twilight my wonderful student, these things happen. We don't know for sure what will come of your brother but he is supervised by the bes-'

Rage flowed from the small filly, 'Everypony I know, someday will die! Mum, Dad, me and even Shining Ar...' Twilight breathed in deep, 'how can I accept something like that?'

'Accepting death is never easy, if possible at all. You will learn to cherish memories and the present'

'Everypony will die... except you... are you even bothered by death anymore?'

'Of course I am, there was a time for me when it seemed death was all there was in my life'

'Living like you must be like adding up all the grief in the world, why do you make these connections?'

'Imagine adding all the love...'

Sitting beside the hospital bed, Celestia recalled these memories and it seemed now that the tables had turned. She was the one who couldn't accept death when her best friend, whom she had only just been drinking tea with in the comfort of her palace, had now accepted her own death.

The mournful night lasted longer than usual, until Luna spoke with Celestia.

'My dear sister, we could sit around grieving our whole lives but at the end of the day the leaves would stay on the trees, the sun and the moon would hang in deep freeze and we would miss out on all the good in this world'

Celestia allowed herself to be swept in emotion but soon after brought up the sun in a rise that lasted well over an hour, the princesses drank tea and shared stories about the marvelous mane six of Equestria and their exploits.
