The Encounter (A Harmony Quest backstory)
The War
Previous ChapterNext ChapterToday, has to be one of the worst days of my life. It hasn't happened yet, but this day would be even worse then the day my parents die.
I always loved ponykind. I loved their peace and harmony. I could start to feel love again. In the past, I was living in what seemed like a hopeless world. I didn't have friends, there were conflicts, there was hatred... I couldn't bear it. But, a glitter of hope cast by Twilight was enough to save me.
But today... It's all going to fall apart. And it's all my fault...
A few days ago, I got captured by someone I have never seen before. He knows Frisk, because she's the one he wants revenge on. I thought, 'Revenge for what? What has she done to you?'
He just replied, 'You don't need to know. But, if you join us, and we win, I'll tell.'
'Win what?' I gasped. 'Wait, you don't mean...'
I knew he had a sinister smile behind that robe.
'Exactly. If you join us and prevail, I will give you all the power you want. You won't be inferior to others anymore. I understand you have been suffering from beaten down by others before, have you not? Through this battle, you get the chance to show those people your true power. Once we win, I will let you... You know what I mean,' He persuaded.
'But... But I don't want to harm my friends!' I shouted.
He stopped pacing around. 'Oh, your friends. You see... Do you think they really care for you? Are you sure that we two races can really establish all of this collaborations and whatnot? It's true; War is bound to happpen sometime between us. It's inevitable. Why are you trying to defend what's right when it's impossible?'
I stopped, and started to think.
'I'll give you two choices. You join, and we'll win, and your wildest dreams of being powerful come true. If you refuse...' His sword was heard loud and clear as he took it out.
I had a dilemma: How do I get out of here without getting killed or doing the wrong thing? I can't teleport, because my hands are tied to a pole. I don't want to die just like this. But... That means I'll have to join these awful, heartless, and to be honest, inhumane humans! And harm my friends in the process! But... The thought of being able to seek my own vengeance... It's tempting. If we win... I'll finally take revenge.
No, no! That's wrong! I will never do that! I'm a man of mercy. Why must I be so vengeful?
'Come on, make your decision already,' He told me, starting to walk towards me with his sword.
Whatever my decision is, I'll be unsatisfied anyway. Join them, my friends get killed. Don't join, and I'll die just like this.
At last, I sighed and answered him.
He was right. A while later, he wanted to declare full-on war with the ponies! And I was part of the plan! I started it! What am I doing with my life!?
But, there was no avoiding it. Now, I'll have to do something that's just so cruel. Twilight is gonna be so mad at me after this...
One night, about a week after the ponies shut down the portals, probably because they were holding off the attacks, I sneaked into Equestria, thanks to my portal abilities. I had my magic ready for my mission, and even before I did it, I was starting to cry already.
I saw her, sitting alone in the library. She seemed to be working on how they can turn the situation around. Well, they have no choice but to defend anyway. I started to cry even harder, but I was trying so hard to not make a sound. After a few minutes of guiltiness, I finally walked behind her.
'Forgive me, Frisk,' I said.
She turned. 'What the-'
Before she could finish, I already smacked her down to the floor and used magic to tie her up, so she can't escape. To make it more secure, I even made a bubble she couldn't run out of. She started to scream, and I was crying.
'What are you doing!?' She screamed at me. It's a bit muffled, though, due to the bubble.
'(Cries) I'm sorry, Frisk... I have no choice!' I cried.
Suddenly, Starlight rushed over to the commotion. She gasped.
'Nathan!? What in Equestria are you doing to her!?'
Crying, I wanted to pull her into the portal. But Starlight keeps using magic to hold the bubble back.
'Tell the others I'm so, so sorry for this... (cries) I didn't mean to... I didn't want all of this to happen... Please don't hurt me...' I kept stuttering.
In the midst of me crying, Frisk somehow used her magic and knocked Starlight back.
'It's okay, Nathan. Take me, if that's what you came to do,' She sighed.
I was confused.
'What? Your friends... They'll be gone forever after this! Are you serious!?'
She shook her head. 'If Twilight's not gonna stay by my side, then I won't either! I will join you humans, and take down the ponykind once and for all!'
Starlight gasped. 'You were a traitor all along!?'
Frisk looked at her with her determined eyes. The mare stepped back.
'Nathan, we'll talk more later. Right now, whatever you're trying to do... Finish it.' Frisk said. 'And Starlight, even though I want to defeat all of you, I still pray you girls will be okay. I still love you all, well, at least six of you. I pray you'll be alright before the war ends.'
Going to the portal, I glanced at Starlight. She was crying.
'I'm sorry, Starlight. Tell the others.' I said. 'This war is happening.'
I was humiliated after that night. Frisk joined us, and became leader of the human side. I didn't know this, but Twilight apparently became a temprary leader of the ponykind as well. A week later, the ponies declared war on humans.
Well, this is just great! I caused the greatest war of human history to happen!
But in all seriousness... I felt so guilty. Just that was enough for me. But I had no choice. The king commanded that anyone who refuses to join the war will be dropped dead. Because of this, so many countries who wanted to make peace were forced in the war. I saw everything. Their lives were even worse when this went on.
I was with Frisk, side-by-side. We were dominating through the early few years of the battle. But, I wasn't happy.
After a while, I realized why Frisk decided to join us. After the siege on Canterlot that caused the war (Might as well just call it 'The Canterlot incident', as Historians call it), Twilight and Frisk had a really big fallout with each other. Twilight was mad at Frisk about everything that had to do with collaborating with the humans. Frisk yelled back at her, and they were done with each other, separating far apart.
I started to develop depression and anxiety.
There was no one else to blame other than the king. I started this. If I didn't join, perhaps this would be averted.
Every day, I couldn't sleep that well. I had to keep taking these pills to keep me fueled up for the fights. I couldn't sleep, because I was crying at how I was so blinded at the time.
I demolished all my friends' hopes and dreams. I knew they've had harmony for a long time. And I broke it. I blame myself for everything in this war. And this war is going to tear my best friends apart. I know Frisk and Twilight have always loved their best friend. But this war is only going to destory their friendship. It already did.
One night, I was going to go to bed, when I saw a text on my phone. It was Twilight. I sighed, and hid myself under the blanket (So nobody sees me) as I texted to her.
'Hey, Spark. How is life recently?' I asked.
She sighed. 'Hi, Nathan. (Sigh) My life is a total mess at the moment...'
My heart sank. I made her feel like this.
'I'm sorry,' I said. 'I put you all in danger, it's my fault. I took Frisk away. Perhaps you ponies would at least make a good defense against us cruel humans.'
'I know that,' Twilight replied. 'I don't care what happens to her. As leader of the pony race, I wish that they will get the punishment they deserve for attacking us. I don't need Frisk anyway, I hate her!'
I was shocked.
'What exactly happened between you both? I knew it briefly, but...'
She didn't reply for a few minutes.
'If she didn't do all this collaboration stuff with the humans, we would have been living happily. I don't get why she needed to do this in the first place,' Twilight explained. 'And she even turned against me!'
“Calm down!” I urged her.
I could already feel the rage pouring in her heart from her messages.
“I... I can’t!” She growled. “Equestria is getting destroyed every minute this war goes on! And it’s her fault! I told her this could happen!”
I wanted to cheer her up.
“Twilight, listen,” I told her. “I won’t be here without you.”
“Huh?”
I sighed. “The only reason why I met you, is because of the ties between your kind and ours. I don’t understand why our king attacked you. It’s not about Frisk. Not me, not you, and not your friends either. I’m being honest, I didn’t want to harm you.”
She didn’t reply for a while.
“I know...” She cried. “But I cant just sit back and watch my nation die, can I?”
I went silent.
“Nathan...” Twilight sighed. “I- I... I’m gonna go. I... I can’t do this right now. I can’t do anything right now.”
I tilted my head in confusion- Why would she say that? She is the most confident pony I’ve seen in my life. I know she can do things right and she never goes into a battle without a plan. I never imagined she would be powerless against anypony.
But soon, it hit me. And I wasn’t that happy.
“So, that’s it, huh?” I asked her.
“Wh-What?”
“You used me,” I said. “You tried to use me so you can get the confidence to try new things, and since the war started, because we’re separated, you can’t do anything to stop this battle.”
“Huh?” Twilight was puzzled. “Wh-What are you talking about!?”
I sighed. “I wanted to be your friend, because you were such a big role model for me. You knew everything about friendship and you taught me to be a better friend. I’ve always been by your side. But... Are you so powerless, to the point that without me, you’re just curling into a ball? I can’t believe it.”
Twilight gasped, and hmphed.
“Well,” She retorted, “You are doing the same thing!”
“I beg your pardon, princess?”
“You wanted to be friends with me just to cure your loneliness at school. I see it now,” Twilight explained. “I knew I can help you to be more social and have friends. But I didn’t think this was the sole reason you wanted to be my best friend... You betrayed me! Why would you be friends with me, just for your own thirst for company and vengeance for what happened to you then?”
I tried to fake the truth out. “N-No! You don’t know what I used to go through!”
“I do,” Twilight replied. “You told me so much about what happened to you before. You’re telling completely white lies. I seriously couldn’t believe you wanted to be our pal, just to feel respected, just to feel someone would love them, just to get the confidence to stand up to their fears... With violence. I could already picture it- You joined them, because the king offered you power. If you win, he will give you the power for revenge. But as a pacifist, I won’t let you do that.”
I gasped. She knew everything. There was nowhere to hide. So I fought back with tears in my eye.
“I don’t understand,” I said. “You can’t be serious about all of this.”
“I am, Nathan. Why would you lie to me, all this time?”
I’ve had enough.
“Well, Twilight... Why did you lie to me about our friendship, then!?”
“What do you mean!?”
I wanted to groan, but the others will hear me so I didn’t. “You were a fraud all along. I trusted you, Twilight. You were everything I hoped for... But you decided to betray me, knowing every little plan I had. A true friend would never do that- Even if they did, they would surely have told their pal sooner in a more calm way- But you weren’t like that.”
Surprisingly, Twilight pushed it further.
“You are the fraud!” She growled. “You were the one who used me to fulfill your wishes!”
I didn’t want to continue playing the game anymore. I was done with Twilight. And she was done with me too.
“You know what?” I asked.
“Hmph, What?”
I let a tear escape my eye. I sighed, and texted back.
“See you after the war.”
“Wh- Huh!? Wait!”
“Goodbye, Twilight Sparkle.”
I proceeded to delete her contact on my phone- Something I never wanted to do. It only took me a few seconds to regret it. Tears leaked out of my eyes, my frown grew big, my hands naturally covering my teary face. I started to cry. I laid my head on my pillow, the tears soaking the pillowcase as I slept.
I made probably the biggest mistake of my life- And I can’t turn back the clock.
Fast forward three to four years later since the war started, the war was at a stalemate, surprisingly. The two sides were starting to crumble down on supplies and all that. Well, it's not much of a problem for me, since I could create these things with my magic.
As I was going to the training area through jumping through portals, I noticed some really familiar people, they were training with Frisk. It was really exciting to watch, and I stood outside the fighting ground to watch. All of them were shooting magic everywhere and all Frisk is doing is defending and yet she won. I was so amazed at my master.
'That was some good fighting,' One said. 'You're more than welcome to join our little group.'
'Thanks,' Frisk replied. As she was shaking his hand, I came in.
'No way... Aren't you guys YouTubers? How did you guys get swept into the war?' I asked in surprise.
My friend laughed. 'I know, right? So... I suppose you know all five of them?'
I nodded, and started to point out all five of them. 'I know all of you. Mark, Jessica, Dan, Stacy and Joseph, right?'
All of them nodded.
'We became quite close since we all joined the war. I'm kinda the leader of the group,' Mark explained.
Joseph sighed a bit. 'This war is really annoying. That's why we got together, we all wanted to see if we can put a stop to it.'
'I know,' Dan followed. 'Why would we want to fight the ponies anyway? I wouldn't.'
'I wouldn't either, I love them!' Jessica said. 'By the way... What's your name exactly?'
Frisk put her hand on my shoulder 'This is Nathan, one of my close friends.'
All of them gasped. They knew who I am.
'Wait, you're Nathan? The one who has video game powers!?' Stacy squeaked, feeling excited.
I had a ball of magic in my hand like it's nothing.
'Oh, it's nothing. It's just me,' I said, laughing.
All of them were instantly excited. They all had a passion for gaming and didn't think they were gonna see the one who has these powers so quickly.
'Alright,' Frisk chuckled. 'How about we go have a bit of chatting time?'
'Oh, right,' Stacy said, creating a portal with her portal gun, one of the powers she chose. 'Follow me!'
Since then, life started to get better. I had some pretty cool friends to keep me company through my darkest period of time. Well, not everyone gets to spend time with their favorite YouTubers, right?
I've been filled with thoughts of betrayal for a long time. And finally, I have someone to talk to about it. Funny enough, it seems to me Frisk is starting to be a little less motivated to fight a while after. I didn't realize why at the time.
One day, I heard the shocking news Frisk got captured by the humans. I saw everything and I heard everything she said. For the first time in quite some time, I heard she said that she missed her friend, Twilight Sparkle. I was heartbroken and I was furious at the humans' treatment of Frisk and her two friends, Mark and Jessica.
I ran away to Britannica, and I ran into someone familiar.
'(Gasp) Oh, I think I know you from somewhere...' She said, trying to recall her memory.
'You do?' I asked.
She remembered. 'Oh yeah! You're my daughter's friend, Nathan, right?'
'I am indeed. Your daughter... You mean Frisk?' I questioned further.
'I am Chara. You seem to be rushing... What's the matter?' Chara asked. 'If you are a friend of my child's, then I will help you.'
I had an idea, and whispered it into her ear.
'I see. Don't worry, come with me. The school I teach in is abandoned, but for now, you'll be safe to do anything you mentioned in your plan.' She was worried, but she took my hand and ran.
I immediately phoned Stacy to break the news.
'Hello? Oh, hey Nathan, what is going on?' Stacy asked through the call. 'By the way... Frisk has been gone for a while and she's still not back yet. Do you happen to know what happened to her?'
'I was about to explain it to you,' I said worriedly. 'She got captured for betrayal!'
She was shocked. 'What!? Is this true!? Where is she? We need to go rescue her!'
'(Sigh) I heard that she got captured by the other armies, and they will be locked up. I was at the scene, but no one noticed me, thank goodness. Anyway, she is in trouble; Not only that, even Jess and Mark got caught as well!' I explained further.
She was shocked. 'No wonder they haven't come back yet! I saw them went out and never came back for the past few days!'
Suddenly, on the other side of the call, I saw a general passing by.
'Hold on one minute,' I said, dropping the call.
(A few moments later)
'Sorry about that, someone wanted to talk to me, but everything is fine.' I stuttered a bit because of my nervousness. 'Now, where were we, Stacy?'
'Frisk got captured and we need to go rescue her.' She reminded me.
'Ah, right. I have a plan for you, Dan and Joseph. If you do as I say, we can help free the trio and escape.'
'Sounds good!' Stacy replied.
'One request, though.' I said. 'Are you willing to risk your life to betray the human race, and help the ponies like me?'
She went silent, but then said, 'We all share the same fate. We will fight for peace, not power. We will all accept this challenge.'
'Excellent, we will carry out the plan in probably a few days, I am trusting in you three.'
'Won't let you down, buddy.' She said, hanging up the call.
Suddenly, Joseph and Dan went over to her.
'You were on the phone for quite a while... What's wrong?' Dan asked.
Stacy smiled. 'We are going to save the ponykind, my friends.'
The two have no idea what she was talking about, but they agreed anyway with no objection.
So, a few days later, I was able to steal a helicopter from the army base of Britannica. I got attacked, but it wasn't long until I escaped. Plus, I had a magic aura so it won't get damaged.
I picked up Dan, Joseph and Stacy, taught them briefly how everything works, and set off to find the other three. When we got there thanks to someone carelessly giving me the exact place of where it is, I stepped down and infiltrated the base.
I told them I was coming to visit the three and tell them how stupid they were of trying to betray us, but in fact, when I got there, I punched him hard and used a potion to make him fall into a coma. I grabbed his keycard and helped the trio escape.
'I don't know why you're helping us, but thank you, Nathan,' Frisk said, patting my shoulder.
'You can thank me later, right now we need to get out of here, follow me!' I said, taking out my guns and passing them to the three for defense.
Our escape was caught by security, but we shot them down easily. Our bullets doesn't actually do damage, it only puts the enemy to sleep.
We got to the top, but as we almost took off, the king rushed over (He was apparently nearby when I carried out the plan) and tried to stop us. But, clever Joseph used a spell and the base went boom at an instant. Our escape was successful.
However, my heart sank. I knew I had to explain everything.
Frisk brought up the question of why I suddenly changed my mind and betrayed the humans. I had no choice but to explain the whole thing from the beginning. Yes, even the reason of why I joined in the first place. So I did. Everyone was shocked and what I've done.
'How long... How long have you been keeping this away from us?' Jessica asked.
I was silent.
'How long have you been doing this!?' Mark accidentally roared. He face palmed himself.
I was crying. I didn't want my friends to get harmed at all. But, I had no choice. My temptation led me into doing this. Yet, Frisk still forgave me, even after all that happened. I'm glad she still had a soft side even after 4 years of fighting.
And a while later, Frisk and Twilight finally decided to make up!
Since I still didn’t have Twilight’s contact on my phone, I desperately begged Asriel, Frisk’s brother, to tell Twilight about what Frisk is going through. After our escape, Frisk had a serious emotional breakdown- Se had to kill her former pony friend. Not too long later, he texted me back saying Twilight was having an emotional breakdown too- For arguing with her best friend. And now, she must pay the price.
To die.
But of course, Twilight knew- Frisk would not kill her, no matter how much they hated each other at the time. So she accepted the challenge- And fought with her in the Britannica Palace.
But they didn’t end it with one being victorious. Both of them were.
When I knew about it, I had to come and find Twilight. I was so so embarrassed and mad at myself for what I said to her some time ago. And I had to come clean with her friends too- For what I did to Frisk, For what the king told me, literally everything I did to cause this war.
I don’t want to be a traitor. But a good man must admit to his own sin.
So I did what I must.
I peeked into the hallway after everyone seemed to be reunited. When I did, what I saw melted my heart. The two leaders were embracing in a tight hug with each other, nuzzling and crying. I couldn’t exactly tell what they said, though, because of the tears and how muffled and shaky the voices were. On the side, I could just see the mane six, the new humans and even Princess Celestia herself was there. This was my chance!
But I didn’t want to interrupt the moment- So I waited. At least until the two stopped crying and let go. It was only a few brief minutes, so I was okay with it. In those minutes, however- I started thinking, “What if she still didn’t forgive me? Did she forget about me?”
No! I can’t be that shy to admit my wrongdoings. I’m a man that has stood up to much challenge before. This shouldn’t be an exception. So I went for it.
I walked into the hallway, with a frown.
“Everypony?” I called out.
They all turned over. Everyone was silent, except Twilight, Who had a huge gasp. I’ve completely forgotten how beautiful she was- It’s been years since I’ve seen her. When we met eye contact, I saw her purple eyes sparkle with surprise, and her mouth putting on a giant smile. Seeing her happy definitely made me cheerful too. So I hid my feelings and smiled back.
“I-I... I came t-to... I came to apologize,” I stuttered as I walked closer. “There’s something I need to-“
I stopped- I felt the warmest wing-hug around my body. I didn’t even notice while I was talking, Twilight Sparkle ran over to me to give me a big hug. The Grip was so tight, and tears leaked out her eyes. She held onto me like she was a little filly who just found her father after getting lost, not letting herself touch the ground. Her sobbing made her nuzzle me in content, having separated from me, one of her closest friends, for a few years and by such a ridiculous misunderstanding.
There wasn’t any reaction I could give. All I did, was froze in place and looked at my beloved friend.
“*sobs* I-I... *cries* I’m sorry... *sniff* I’m so, so, sorry...” I could tell Twilight struggled so hardly to utter those words out- Her crying made it almost unrecognisable.
I finally had the courage to return the hug. I wrapped my arms around my sweet pony, and tightened my grip. I sighed in bliss and absolute content as I nuzzled her.
“Spark...” I told her, brushing her mane, hoping it would silence her tears. “You do not have anything... *sniff* You have nothing to apologize about... *sobs* You know nothing about what I did... You all have no idea what I had to go through to be alive... All of this, is my own fault...”
Everyone, apart from the humans, who knew what I was going to bring up, was confused, and looked to one another. I didn’t really show a sign that I would be stopping the lovely moment.
“I was wrong. And you know that, Twilight... Forgive me, please?” I begged her.
She cried and sniffed. Then she let out a chuckle.
“Y-Yes... You were the one I depended on for my happiness this whole time... I don’t want you to leave...”
I nodded, and let go.
“You were my source of happiness too.”
We smiled, and we’re both glad to make up. But, what didn’t make me glad, was what came next.
“*clears throat* Nathan,” Frisk suddenly spoke up. “I believe you have-“
“Yes, captain,” I responded. “I know. Will do, right now.”
I motioned Twilight to stand by her pony friends and the princess. This was super nervous for me- I would be killed for betrayal as their ally. I could be accused of being a spy. I didn’t want to admit what I did, what my goal was, and my thirst for vengeance.
However... As Celestia said once, “Sometimes, a truth from the heart is better than a well-meant lie.”
“To begin, Everypony,” I said, rubbing my hands in discomfort and nervousness. “*gulp* I-I... There’s nothing I could really say now. I... I deeply, deeply, apologize for all you had to go through.”
Starlight was curious. “What do you mean?”
I took a very deep breath, and after a minute of unsuccessful attempts, the suspense was already killing my friends. Not wanting to delay my potential death any longer, I said it.
“I-I... *sigh* I started this war. Not the king.”
They all gasped at the same time.
“You Made this war happen!?” Rainbow Dash couldn’t believe her ears.
Fluttershy was scared. “Oh, but why?”
“Yeah! What’s going on?” Pinkie asked with her intrigued voice.
“Do tell us, darling,” Rarity suggested.
I looked to Twilight, and she came to give me a pat on the back. She nodded to me.
“Well,” I sighed. “A couple years ago, you would remember I suddenly went missing. In fact... The king captured me. He told me that if I helped him on winning the war, he would give me all the power I wanted. I’ve been bullied for all my life and cyberbullied when I grew up like now, by those stupid idiots that are oh so inhumane. I wanted the power. I needed it. I took the offer. I had to anyway, because if I didn’t, I’ll die. I know, a true soldier would seek death over suffocation. But with you all on the line, and seeing you do so much for me... *sniff* I...”
I broke down and kneeled down on the cold floor in defeat, and started to cry loudly.
“P-Please... Don’t kill me...” I begged and sobbed uncontrollably.
Twilight came over to support me. So did Applejack.
“There, there, sugarcube. Let it all out. Don’t say anything else, we’ve heard enough,” Applejack told me.
Twilight agreed. “If you don’t want to, we wouldn’t force you.”
I just tried to hug them and cry. Streams of tears leaked out my eyes- I just admitted betraying my best friends and the ponykind. I ruined everything- If I didn’t take the offer, none of this would happen.
“I... *crying* I just wanted... *sob* I don’t want to... *sob* To lose you all...”
Nobody was smiling at what I just said. Especially the ponies. I knew- I loved them so, so much, to the point I didn’t want my time with them to end. I didn’t want to die and end my friendships with them. But no one could’ve predicted all of this mess. They knew I cared about them- But if I did, why would I make the decision to do this? Why would I make them suffer?
Nothing was right about me. I was selfish. I was blinded. And I had a thirst for vengeance. A thirst... For someone’s blood.
A few minutes later, I stood up. I dropped all of my weapons I had with me, and disabled all my protective armour. I surrendered to them, kneeling down. I spawned in a black-coloured potion, and gave it to the group.
“Wh-What are you doing...?” Twilight asked.
I glanced at her, and sighed.
“I committed a crime to you all,” I said formally. “You have no reason to forgive me.”
Everypony gasped, but said nothing as I put my hands up.
“*sniff* Whenever you’re ready,” I cried.
They all were shocked. But that didn’t change my mind- All I wanted, was to show them how much I owe them, all this time. I was just one, big sin to them for making that choice. I wanted them to forget about me. Forget this traitor of ponykind. Forget this powerless soul, who has nothing but harsh words and greed for power and attention.
I wanted them to kill me.
My eyes closed.
And...
*splash*
“Look at me, Nathan.”
I opened my eyes once more- I wasn’t dead yet. Why?
“No. I’m giving you the chance. Do it, Celestia.”
I glanced to the left. I saw the potion- Shattered to a million bits, the liquid leaking out. I refused to listen to her- She had no reason to prolong the conversation. But, all she did, was lift my head up, with a smile.
“Stop it. I don’t deserve this.”
Celestia shook her head and lifted me back on my feet with magic.
“I said STOP! Just... Just-!”
And then, when I was at the brink of exploding, I felt something on my back. Something... Light and smooth. Something large, soft and feathery. It was a pair of wings. My tears flowed out. I don’t want my death to delay any more. But I couldn’t get my spell to work- I was seemingly squeezed by an unknown force. When I did open my eyes and were made clear, I saw a coat of white fur. When I finally realized it, I thought it had to be fake.
Princess Celestia gave me a hug! The greatest princesses ever just hugged me tight! And after I said all those things!
“Thank you, Nathan,” She said kindly.
I looked up at her like she was my caring mother. “B-But... *sob* Why? I betrayed you, Celestia! I destroyed Canterlot! I made so many ponies-“
She used a spell to silence me. She also placed a hoof on my cheek.
“There’s no such thing as death penalty in our world, Nathan,” She giggled. “Also... Why care so much about our scars in the past? We need to move on. We all must. Even I couldn’t turn back the clock. I would love to change the past however I wish- I made many horrible mistakes too, like you. However, no. It can’t be done. Rather than lamenting about the past... You can change into the person you wish to be.”
Celestia winked, and the humans came too.
“My friend,” Frisk said. “I was never mad at you when you took me away. But, if you don’t come join us now... You better be ready for a pounding.”
She clenched her fists, and I nudged her playfully.
“No, please. Please don’t, Frisk,” I laughed.
Asriel stood on my right. “You are a brave fighter. You know what’s right, Nathan. Don’t surrender to the dark. Be yourself. Don’t let others change you.”
The gamers all nodded in agreement.
Looking around, all the familiar and friendly faces gave me so much confidence and courage. Even after what I did, even after my own selfish plan, even after all they’ve suffered... They were willing to forgive. It was the most heartwarming act I’ve seen before my eyes.
Twilight tapped me from behind.
“Frisk and I made up already,” She said, offering me a hoof. “You can do what’s right. I believe in you, Nate.”
I had a big smile. I knew just what to do. I took out my phone and called the king.
“Hello? Hey, your majesty... I, uhh... *chuckles* Got some pretty embarrassing news to tell ya.”
The king was rather unsatisfied with my tone. “Pardon, Nathan?”
I made a cold smile.
“Congrats, you played yourself. Goodbye.”
“WHAT!? NO, HOW DARE YOU-“
*beep*
We all had a hysterical laugh, and I shook Twilight’s hoof gladly.
“Does this mean you forgive me, Twi?”
“Of course, Nate.”
It was on the very day we took back Britannica. However, Frisk decided to step down, since she doesn't want to be fighting for the humans anymore. The country promised to be Equestria's ally, though.
After I made amends with Celestia and Luna, they ultimately forgave me and I was back to the family I know and love. I got to fight for what's right; I can finally get out of the grasp of the darkness. Because of this, we started to win battle after battle that year.
At this point, I finally see that things were looking up and it's not as miserable as before. However, my life-long mission... The battle I have trained for... My ultimate goal and dream... It's still left undone.
And in this midst of chaos, I swear to my friends, and I swear to god, I will put an end to my suffering. Let those maniacs come, I'm willing to risk it. Injure me all you want. Stop me with all of your might. You can even KILL me. But no matter what, I shall stand my ground and I make this resolution tonight:
I, Nathan Hon, will not give up, UNTIL THEY SURRENDER BY MY HANDS.
