//-------------------------------------------------------// Inheritors of Vita: Severed Fate -by Icetra- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue - A Tale of Ice and Fire //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue - A Tale of Ice and Fire Within the boundaries between dreams, reality and the unknown, there slept corridors without end, its depths inlaid with runes of profound arcana. Dull, grey stone hummed with vibrant magic, filling the hallways with a thick, twilight mist that billowed quietly. This was a realm that was ruled by one Potentate that was worthy of ruling the seat of this mighty power, the very birthright drawing the current inhabitant to conquer the monotonous yet troubling rituals and trials to claim it. And now the trio of heroes that seek to thwart him was now sleeping peacefully, under the spell of the mist that lulled them into their darkest memories. A decrepit dragon of the wintry element that walked like the Anthro. A being that reeked of anonymity, carrying the potential to become anyone and anything from another perspective. And the thin yet luscious beauty of Mother Nature herself. All three of them were now at the mercy of a cackling mad man. Instead of worrying about what's going on, the ruler of this realm shall speak of a riveting tale of an alternative future, the source of direction coming from the sleeping dragon. To think that dusty bag of dragon bones was once someone of significant importance. It was enough for the ruler to frown with dissatisfaction over such a travesty. Ah, but what can you do? Fate has a way of turning the most vibrant souls into a miserable pile of secrets and broken dreams. Among his lap was a book that originally held nothing but blank pieces of paper, a story told only when certain prerequisites were met. Now it was weaving a tale that came directly from the interlopers thoughts and memories, creating a future that could have been but never will. There exists an infinite number of causalities and blockades that can prevent the usual route of Fate and instead create a new, unsuspecting path. The ruler himself could not oversee the complicated intricate designs of the woven red thread, only accept the path as it is. Aggressively did the pages turn, whipping winds conjured by the fury of sharp paper as it released an immeasurable amount of magic into the reader's trepidated form. A shadowy grin pierced through the quickening darkness, a silvery eye peering among the halted pages that were now weaving the beginning. "Let us start from the beginning. Of a world created by the fair, cowardly folk of separated opposites. A mother and her children destined to rule over the sheep of the land, to protect their people with undying fealty." "It is time to end this cliche speech, and get straight to the gripping story of the beloved and despised known as the Protector!" Let me tell you a story, About a servant of Nature that sought unyielding peace and harmony. By escaping the turmoil of their beloved Gods. Leaving behind the stained tears of the woeful citizens. She pleaded that all will be well in the new land. That abandoning who they praised and loved will be a opportune moment. For if no one was willing to escape the God Wars. They will be the tools of the selfish and greedy. Corona was her name. A righteous Queen that guided the Solaris. Blessed with horn of magic, beauteous wings and titan strength. An Alicorn created by the gentle touch of her Mother. Yet when she lead the Aldhari and many others to salvation. None knew that her guidance was only possible by communing to a profound Goddess. However her Mother was a benevolent force that didn't carry ill intentions. Instead assisting her beautiful creations with her beatific light. With her power did she erect a barrier to protect them from the war. And a perfect world that was the source of her pragmatic yet bountiful earth. Crafted from a source of magic that will fuel the harmony that the Queen sought for. The ancients call it Ether, The World of Renewal. For one hundred years the lands knew peace. From the steadfast Aldhari to the power hungry Dragons. The griffins flew free in lofty sky blue horizons. While the humans focused on their haphazard contraptions. A plethora of other species joined with them. Singing in happiness and joy to the Queen that lead them. And there did she smile with identical intent. Partying with her people, basking in the afterglow. For centuries she believed that her people could never find their place. But after today, for so many years. She truly believed that she claimed peace for all. And for once cut loose and shed her ruling visage, becoming one with the common. In her weakness she did not realize that nothing lasts forever. This is expected of one in infancy. Fabricating thoughts that dismiss the natural order of Fate. It will be her reckoning, and her last chance to breathe. Though what happened in the next year... Was something that never should have been. Bringing along terrifying monstrosities that devour the breath of Vita. A source that will forever be unknown, and lead the destruction of a peaceful society. Past. Present. Future. Cross the boundaries of time! He who is a source of heroism and a scourge to the people! Grant the Aldhari another chance! And maybe Ether will reveal it's true form. "Falronn, it has been awhile since we've seen each other," said the one clad in fanciful attire. It consisted of a blood mantle fastened by a black diamond brooch, alongside a ebon cape embroidered with pure gold. A belt with a similar design that of his brooch clung tightly around his waist. Ebony clothing wrapped around his tanned chest and legs, covering the steel chainmail and greaves that protected his form. Although he'll forever utter that it's to complete the set, not for protection. A sword with a golden hilt and ruby pommel rested within a black diamond encrusted scabbard, gleaming menacingly. Then there was the true weapon of this man's arsenal; an golden double axe inlaid with several ancient runes that stood two feet taller than the user. Numerous gems were encrusted within the axe during its making, and they too supply the awesome power this axe promised. Between the blades was the shape of a spear that was long enough to impale his enemies. When one looks at the royally garbed being long enough, they could still see he had the visage of an arrogant child, with a permanent scowl on his face. Golden locks of waist length hair had the pleasure of turning into a long ponytail that laid peacefully upon his shoulder. Many remarked on how those piercing, golden eyes was so terrifying as well calculating to the trained eye. The slender form of this mysterious king was fitting for someone who wore such tight garments. Everything else: anime. He was a young man that abdicated the throne at the ripe age of ten, and he killed his father to obtain the title of Potentate of the Void. Since then his kingdom has prospered for four years, beloved by his people yet hated by the old fogeys who were used to the archaic system. He has attracted the ire of many influential people, including the Evil Eye. Nobody knew what his true name was, but many have called him the Scourge of the System and Wielder of Dahngrest, the axe that was fastened on his back. Several have feared to call him by even his alias. Before the child king was a creature that was a amalgamation of different parts of animals. The head of a horse, with two mismatched horns: a blue goat horn and a deer antler. A long, devious fang accentuated the devious grin he wore. What always made the potentate look twice at the creature known as Falronn was not the horns, nor the mismatched pair of horns nor palms, but those differently sized red irises of his. He didn't bother with the rest of his pieces, aware that it was a serious mess. He always reminded him of madman's science experiment gone wrong. He may have been terribly weird, but his insane antics did entertain him. But today was something important, so there was no time to fool around. "Falronn. HA! Haven't heard that name in centuries!" he shouted with a sneer, disappearing instantly before appearing beside the king just as quick. He wrapped his lion's arm around the back of his neck, smiling deviously. "It's always good to see you, my partner in crime! Tell me, to what do I owe this lovely visit?" It seems Falronn was full of energy as usual. He wouldn't have it any other way, but today was not the time to play around. And he made that very clear. "Sorry Discord, but today we can't screw around. I've come here for information on one of the residents here." Falronn clapped his hands like an excited schoolgirl at the mention of information. Quickly he vanished and appeared right on his chaise longue, laying on it lazily. "Ooh, so you came here for juicy gossip, hm? Maybe on Celestia? Luna? That dreadful Twilight Sparkle? They're really nothing to sneeze at, but I know a few...things that would totally ruin their public appearance. Did y'know that --" The pensive king dismissed him with a wave of his hand, scowling. "Falronn, I care not of a fat immortal, damaged goods or the insane bookworm. Instead, I need information on the bumbling child who came here a year ago." The chimaera didn't say anything, as he had no idea what his 'partner in crime' was talking about. "Eh, drawing blanks. Be more specific bro." "Ugh. The Protector. Will that suffice?" "Ahh, you mean that weird dragon that's living crystal? Reminds me of a draconic golem who cries and flails too much." The king had to laugh at that. "Indeed. To think that kid has thwarted my plans for years sends a flame of utter despair and humiliation in my heart." "Sounds like indigestion." "Hmph. Only this problem can go away," quipped the royal. Falronn chuckled at that remark, "So what do you want to know? Wait, let me guess." He rubbed around his eyelids slowly while making a humming noise that annoyed the king to no end. The mad science experiment suddenly snapped his fingers, winking at him with a grin plastered on his face. "Aha! You want to know what's he been doing since he's been in Equestria. The whole story of course." A nodding king shrugged his shoulders, grinning all the while. "Not impressed, Falronn. But yes, tell me everything. Even during your imprisonment you were obviously watching him. If not, well," behind him his axe vibrated at that exact moment, brimming with a malicious aura, "You already know." "Now now, need to threaten. I'll tell you everything, your shadowy grace." One forgot to mention that the proud king lacked a physical form, so he was now a shadowy soul that clung desperately to the Omniverse much like a lost spirit. But the people that believed him dead didn't know he still commanded power. "I'll soon have a body to turn to, once you tell me everything." Falronn merely shrugged, sighing dramatically, "I don't know HOW talking about that kid will help, but alright." "Splendid." "So I bet everyone is wondering, "what the hell is this all about?"" The aforementioned demented man was now drinking a glass of red wine, calmly turning the pages of the massive tome laying on his lap. Reading through some passages elicits some form of laughter that was too twisted to put into the words. The flickering of the light bulb on the lamp next to him sitting on a ebony end table didn't bother him none. For this certain breed of man preferred reading in the darkness. The only reason why the fireplace was on full blast is because it was a little nippy in the room. That's what happens when you build stone walls. "Maybe you're wondering, "It's Falronn trying to deceive us!" Or, "This story has been done before!" "Well of course it is, you blithering nincompoop! Nothing is original anymore! These lives that I hold in my hands lived journeys that are so cliche it makes the internet vomit on itself! But that doesn't mean it won't be interesting. Oh no. It's so interesting your eyes will be dried as a husk from the intense feels of this sad, sad boy." Turning yet another page, a lone finger tapped at the middle of the right page. In an instant inky writing began to inscribe itself upon the endless pages, written in an language that was foreign to all save for certain individuals. Much like magic it was esoteric, as this certain type of style could only be learned by few beings in this infinite Omniverse. This man was proud to be one of the few creatures of this era that knew of its secrets, and is the reason he is able to read the story now. "Now sit back and the enjoy a life of monotony. Such is the way of beginnings – but maybe this will be intriguing after all. Hmhmhm." Author's Note The Prologue! I know it is not usually accepted, but I feel to establish just a teeny bit of mythology it's necessary. I hope you enjoy it! //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 1 - Welcome to Equestria! //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 1 - Welcome to Equestria! The Darkness. Why did it feel like such a common welcome to arrive in its abode? To embrace the deep with wide eyes and a smile of depressing intent. Its velvet tendrils coiling around the still body of a young child, penetrating through the deepest recesses of the mind and plaguing it with its terrible power. For a moment, the seemingly sleeping boy felt at peace. Then a second later, dread wracked his shivering body as the tendrils lifted him in the air. By that time he passed out, unable to see the snapping ivory jaws that were close to devouring him. Would they extinguish the flame of life that dwelled within his heart, or were they another fear to be conquered? Unfortunately, he wouldn't know this, for the boy has luck that stinks like a pile of manure. Close to retrieving their prize, the jaws suddenly stopped, teeth chattering as if a terrible cold rattled the inky void. Magenta light burst through the crevices of those monstrous teeth, burning them away, as well as the darkness, that was now turning into a melting, bubbling pile. A hiss reverberated within the dark corridor, the tendrils dropping its victim into the inky abyss. He would have fallen into the bubbling sea of choking darkness if not for the light embracing his form, hoisting him up upon a massive sun of the purest light. He awoke just for a slight moment to see its shining grace, this beautiful sun that saved him. Or maybe it was another enemy. Whatever it was, he accepted the good graces of the holy light. Maybe, just maybe, he'll be lucky... The sunlight that pierced through the window rested upon a figure with several patches and burn marks. A cast concealed a shimmering blue arm that sparkled in the light, belonging to the one who laid in the hospital bed. His body was bathed in sunlight, although he was unaware of this development. The incessant beeping of the heart monitor made the being stir slightly, before rising from his deep slumber. The awakening was sudden however, jerking somewhat roughly while placing a flat palm upon his beating heart. It came as another surprise that he couldn't move his left arm, and when he tried pain lanced through him. It felt like his arm was crushed by a large boulder As his body began to relax, he slowly remembered the dream he had. Who was the one that saved him? He was certain that the darkness had been ready to devour the last of himself that made, well - himself. It was obvious through this equipment that was attached to him, that his savior was close by. At least, he hoped so. He needed to thank that wonderful person for their kindness. But why did he want to thank this person? Something strange inside of him felt that it was pointless and unnecessary, but another familiar feeling wanted to do everything possible to be grateful. It was an internal turmoil that brought upon a ear splitting headache. After the initial pain went away, he needed to analyze the current situation, his surroundings and himself. Right now he was in a room of marble and gold, although it was quite simple in terms of furniture. The only thing that seemed out of place was the medical equipment, which he assumed was helping him in some way. It was a very comfortable bed, meant for one person. Two square windows, pierced by the warm sunlight, were inlaid with gold. Gold and white seemed to be a theme there. Speaking of the light, why was he glowing so? He couldn't move away to diminish the effect, but it gave him a warm, fuzzy feeling inside his stomach. There were a few potted plants here and there on polished wooden end tables. The carpet, not unlike the rest of the room, was white, could tell it was fine and soft. He didn’t have strong opinions when it came to construction and decoration, but it was pretty nice in there. It was like a guest room for royalty. Royalty... wait, what?! The being that could have saved must have been some form of nobility or high order. There was this horrible feeling that suddenly rose in the pit of his stomach. No reason could be give as to why he felt uneasy being in the iron clad grip of the prestige. But whatever it was, he needed to leave as soon as possible! Apparently that wasn't going to happen, as he could feel a slight vibration and the smell of ozone. He didn't know what this meant, but the doorknob was opening from the other side. He didn't know what to expect, but even if tried to escape, it would be pointless with his arm and leg in such a damaged state. All he could do was lie down and watch. And what he saw was a surprise. He had never seen a white horse with wings and a horn. Or...any equine for that matter. It was a beautiful creature that gave off a motherly aura, an aura that felt very comforting and bereft of evil intent. He felt compelled to relax in her presence. Perhaps this was his savior? He could feel something welling inside the horse's very being. A power that was strong enough to rival a sun and then some. This didn't scare him, oh no. It only intrigued him. Especially that lovely, billowing mane of hers. The consistency reminded him of cotton candy. Before he could respond, the white horse spoke with a voice that was like a sweet melody in the wind. "I'm glad you're finally awake. You gave us quite a scare." Wincing slightly, he looked at his broken arm before sighing. As he spoke one could notice that he sounded very childlike and energetic. Unfortunately these qualities were diminished due to his condition. "Are my injuries serious? This is...uncomfortable, to say the least." The cast was seriously itchy. She shook her head, squinting her eyes ever so seriously. Her long horn was embraced by a magenta aura, casting a spell of levitation on some sort of papers. Reading them over quietly, she started talking. "A head injury. Broken arm and leg. You came in with internal bleeding too. There's also something wrong with the way you distribute magic, but neither the doctors or I understand what that exactly means. Until all is clear, you must stay here and recover." He didn't understand. What happened to him that caused all these injuries in the first place? When he attempted to remember, he could feel another headache coming in. “Why am I like this? I can’t remember anything,” he said, concerned. "I...don't know. You came crashing into the throne room, berserk. Wailing in pain. I was able to sedate you, but not before you harmed some of my little ponies..." She said this as if she was hurt herself. Clearly these ponies were very important to her, which brought another question to mind: why did she spare him? "Their injuries were not severe, so do not worry. Our scans show you were temporarily possessed. I cannot blame a victim, which is why you're been resting here now. It's been five days since that day." Five days?! Was her magic that powerful enough to keep him sleeping for so long? Whatever it was, he was relieved no one was severely hurt. Now that she mentioned it, he remembered crashing into something. That was another question that needed answered. And she was courteous enough to give an answer with a smile. "You crashed into the mountain that the castle is built on. You made a sizeable hole near the peak and my throne room." All he could do was apologize, but in return he was given a stern look. "Now is the time that I ask you some questions. What are you?" That was a good question. Not even he could recall who or what he was, although he was able to retain two important details about himself. The last one gave him another headache that continued to bother him as he thought about it. Luckily the first one should have been the most important to remember: an identity. "I...don't know. My name is Icetra, that much is clear. But I haven't the faintest idea of what I am," he said with a frown. For a moment, she too frowned, but the frown was quickly replaced by a smile. Walking over to him, she rubbed a tender hoof upon his head, obviously spotting his inner pain. "Now now, don't think too hard on it. You still need to relax." "I can't help it. Everything has fallen into obscurity. All I can find are the shadows that have devoured the very soul of my being. I feel so – so empty." He was on the brink of tears until he was consoled by the kind being, her gentle touch quietly soothing him. "Do not worry. Wherever you have fallen from, you have arrived in a good place with kind ponies. Your memories will return to you in time, but for now you must rest. But oh my, I seem to have forgotten my introduction." She stepped back slightly to do a small bow, spreading her beautiful, snow white wings. "My name is Celestia, Solar Diarch of Equestria. Welcome to our humble world, traveler." He thanked her once more for the introduction and the generosity that she had displayed. She told him that he needed more rest. When she turned around to leave the room, she was stopped in her tracks by his small voice behind her. "There is something else I feel I need to mention..." Maybe it was just her imagination, but the mention of this piece of news made her shiver slightly. After hearing what slipped out from his thin lips, all made sense. She could feel her eyes widen in shock, as she stood slack jawed before him. What was told to her shouldn't be possible, but there was no reason for the child to lie to her, especially in his current state. "I'm the Protector." Celestia noticeably winced from hearing his answer, but she hastily smiled to reassure him. She began walking away near the door, taking one last look to the amnesiac child. She didn't dare show any negative emotions. "Do not let it concern you. Everything will come to you in time," she said, staring at him. "I only hope soon." With that she left the room, mumbling to herself. Giving the poor child more questions, there was nothing he could do but think.. His mysterious arrival on this new planet, his berserk mindset when entering this world, and the loss of his memory. So many details desired to be put in place, but nothing revealed itself. There was also this - empty feeling that made him feel hollow inside, like there was something missing, but he couldn't place what it could be. It was like he was living a life that shouldn't have existed. At least he was coherent enough to speak. But nothing came to when dealing with his origin, his species, or even his fate. Everything was nothing more than a huge blank, as if the darkness devoured all that existed within him.Was this what amnesiacs felt like? It was a horrible experience, that's for sure. Yet it felt...familiar. How bizarre. It was a fruitless endeavor to continue this, so it was back to hopefully a peaceful slumber. Through continuous fluffing his pillows and turning about constantly, he was eventually able to fall asleep. His lustrous form dimmed down somewhat, the iridescent glow moving calmly like billowing waves. ...And as soon as he fell into a slumber he arrived within a room bereft of furniture and decoration. It was a place that contained only sterile, blank walls that extended a massive distance, maybe even endless. Slightly stunned by this new environment, he searched around the room to find, well...anything that would seem out of place. He couldn't make out what this place exactly was, but he intended to find out. After what felt like hours of travel did he finally find something. Facing him was a lantern that emitted a red light, sitting atop a mahogany end table. Alongside it was a polished wooden armoire with an ebony recliner that held a mysterious figure. He obviously didn't know who or what it was, but before he could say anything, the room echoed with an ear-piercing voice. "You have finally arrived, foreign inhabitant of this land. Now a loner, wandering the sands of obscurity, trying to search for what was lost. Unaware that it is a pointless action." This made Icetra frown, and he felt his face burn in tact with his rising anger. He scoffed at the voice with obvious frustration. "Then tell me, what I should do. Maybe prance around in a tutu to discover I'm a ballerina?" "Nothing so feminine, though you certainly have the frame. No, telling you what you should do doesn't mean it is the right course of action. You have the choice to create your own destiny, to weave the threads of fate on your own. A dangerous power in the hands of a child." Icetra chuckled at the voice's silly words, plopping down unceremoniously. "I may have an empty mind, but I have sense to know that we're all bound by fate. Nothing in the Omniverse can change that." The voice let out a hearty laugh, shaking the very foundation of the endless unknown. It was at this time that the man who was sitting down now began to rise. Icetra could make out bountiful locks of straight, black hair that spilled down to the male's waist. Once the stranger turned around to face Icetra, he noticed the chocolate complexion of the man that stood before him. He was wearing a blank stare that was unreadable. What was creepy about this man was the lack of pupils in his eyes. All that existed was a sea of milky white. Garments of flowing silk and ruby adorned his body, alongside a scarf that reached down to his knees. Silk gloves wrapped around slender fingers, a golden ring was wrapped snugly around his ring finger. White leggings with black laces and steel-toed shoes met the sterile ground slowly but confident and proud. A belt with a ruby center was worn tightly around his waist, as well a black bowtie that fastened the silk together. As the man walked towards him, he could hear the clinking of metal hitting against the floor, and from the sound of it, he was heavily armored. The wizard stopped in his tracks, about five metres away from the confused amnesiac. He could only smile from such a display, arrogant as it might be. His voice should have been fitting for a wizard that produced such a volume of magic, although it was youthful; soft, yet somewhat deep. "I am someone from a past you cannot recall in your current mindset. It is impossible to acquire through rest and time, only in adventure and battle will you find what you seek." The idea of battle scared the timid teenager for obvious reasons. It summoned a fear that shook his foundation, knowing in his heart that fighting was a bad idea. But if what this man said was true, he wouldn’t be able to retrieve his memories without getting his hands dirty. So he needed to buck up and face this mysterious fear with all the strength that he had. He straightened up with a determined expression, ready to face the dangers of the world. "Unfortunately, you will not be facing any danger until you realize what you truly are. The land of Equestria should help with the first task. If you cannot do this, then you will fall into the darkness once more." Whew. For a moment he thought he had to head straight into battle! That was a load off. Recovering first did seem to be the best option, and he didn’t have a choice in the matter. But what did he mean by 'fall into the darkness'? He'd done it before? Maybe he was referring to that dream he had. He was about to ask the question, until he was silenced by the wizard's risen hand. "Fret not about your worries. All will come into place if you allow it to. But I have wasted enough time, and must be elsewhere." A circle of intricate designs and runes was summoned beneath the wizard's feet. In a shower of light, the man dematerialized into orbs of light. "We shall meet again once your first trial is over. I wish you luck, Icetra." By the time he finished talking time he had already dispersed into light, absorbed by the dissipating spell. In that moment, a bright light engulfed the blank surroundings, drinking in everything in it's path. Ah, the start of a new day just waiting to be explored. Icetra rose up from his bed, aimlessly looking around with heavy, drowsy eyelids. A yawn escaped from his mouth, inadvertently causing him to stretch his arms upward, long and wide. Placing two fingers each on both eyes, he rubbed them carefully so as to not stick himself while relieving his eyes of the sandman's dust. Once more a loud yawn stretched open his mouth so wide it revealed his sharp teeth. The windows were beaming with precious sunlight, bathing the room in natural light. There was no need of electricity when the sun could supply him with all the joys that he desired. Tilting his head slightly, he could see through the window that it was a pleasant day. Puffy, delicious white clouds were painted on a picturesque blue sky. A perfect day to explore and run wild into the verdant fields of green outside Canterlot Castle. That was, if a certain boy could use his legs. The injury was a serious hindrance. There was no certainty that he was a man of adventure, but the craving of going outside to do something adventurous was screaming at him like a wailing ghost, pushing him onward to explore the depths of this new world. But there was nothing he could, for his handicap limited him to a simple wheelchair that stood next to the bed. He stared at it with a fiery glint in his pupils. He wanted to dismantle, annihilate and destroy that humiliating and awkward device, but he couldn't punch it with his good arm even if he could. For reasons unknown, those vivid dreams seriously drained much of his strength, and at this current moment it was a miracle that he could even move. Everything felt so natural, from waking up to yawning; even stretching had felt natural. After realizing this crucial fact the soreness rapidly came in. It was as if he had really experienced all of those events, while the source of trauma coming from them were just transferred to his body. Yet, while the rest gave him a mixture of pain, terrifying thoughts and a quivering lower lip, he quickly perked up after imagining that last dream. It was so sad, yet there was a feeling of longing for that strange woman he encountered. As if she was a great source of inspiration that was now gone from his life. It left him with a feeling of deepening sadness that that felt like he could have practically drowned on it, but something told him, in the recesses of his mind, that everything would be alright. He was sure that he'd meet this woman again. If time would allow it. Positioning the wheelchair so that the seat was right behind him. He dragged himself across the bed until his bottom plopped right onto the cushion, causing him to slightly wince from a small sting of pain. If he had the upper body strength he could merely hoist himself to the wheelchair, but his frame told many people that he was built for agility, not strength. He decided that he should evaluate himself once more. Icetra possessed a thin, lithe form that was dotted with miniature clusters of ice and crystal around the sides of his neck, the bottom of the cheeks and scattered around the rest of his body. In the sunlight, he knew that his aquamarine-like body changed, as if they were moving currents of clear water. He wasn't sure what caused it, but he was very sure it had to been a particular time in the sunlight, because right now the effect wasn't active. Puzzled by this, he shook his head before continuing to analyze himself. Noting his hands, they were both crystallized with this strange substance that was cool to the touch, and he was pretty sure if held long enough, it would turn chilly to the other recipient. He couldn't feel it himself due to his affiliation with the element of ice, so that was cool. The only thing to note now was his feet, which only had three long toes and a hind-claw on the back. It reminded him of feet that a beast would have, but it was possible he was some kind of feral creature. Then why was the rest of his body so different from his feet? Maybe he should find some bandages, wrap them up and hide these ghastly extremities from the rest of the world. Yeah, that sounds about right. It was then he felt through the strands of sapphire hair. It was spiky and long enough to form bangs, but straightened and short enough that it only grew to his neck. Feeling through it he could tell the texture was soft, yet slightly matted and rough. He’d need to remember to find some way to take a shower, lest it'll be damaged. Oh, he couldn't forgot his attire, which consisted of a flowing light green gown. Mainly used for the patients, it was a piece of clothing that felt more free than what he left with. From the looks of his old attire that he could barely remember it appeared to be, well – constricting. Ah well, he'll find out what it feels like soon. Maybe he'll luck out and it'll be enchanted! Now to check my stats. Whatever that means. By just thinking about it, numbers and letters popped up to form equations and mathematical problems that formed and created his current stats, a 'list' that is important for anyone alive to keep track of. Questioning as to how he obtained this knowledge was - questionable. He was shocked at the results. Level 1 – Amnesiac Wonder HP: 18 ATK: 12 DEF: 9 SPD: 21 INT: 19 RES:24 Weapon Mastery: Sword, Emblem, Staff. Armsphere(s): Dextrous Intelligence – Increase SPD & INT by 50%. Empty (8) So many empty spaces. Probably because of my amnesia. And what's with the title and level? Ugh! I'm pathetic. So I have no choice but to grind. Whatever that means. Now that that was out of the way, it was time to find some bandages to cover these disgusting toes. But he considered the problem of the ponies accepting his request, since it was selfish and a bit unorthodox. But still it couldn't hurt to ask. Right? Doubt ready in his mind, he released a pensive sigh and took one last look at his feet, turning away hastily in disgust. Grabbing both wheels he pushed them slightly until he gained little momentum. He wheeled himself until he reached the door, where he leaned upwards to turn the golden knob and open the door. After that it was back to moving these oversized wheels. If he couldn't explore the outside world, then he sure as well was going to explore this gargantuan of a castle! Through the beginnings of his adventure he felt that someone was going to impede his path, but so far after wheeling through the red velvet carpet, so far nothing had happened. This brought a silly smile on his face that was reminiscent of a drunkard whose partied and had too much. And why wouldn't he? Exploring was so exciting! For this unknown reason he had the strongest feeling to just search through every nook and cranny, discover every secret, and chart out new and strange lands. But for now he'll have to settle with the castle. It was certain that today's adventure wouldn't be long, for the castle was just...too much to bear. The themes of marble and gold were ever present in the carved walls. Shades of purple was also apparent, as well the banners of the Equestrian nation which also took the royal hue of purple, blue and gold. He wasn't sure on the design, but it was pretty cool. Giant windows as far as the eye could see extended from the long corridor that appeared to be endless. Bally blue blazes, there was no end to this hallway! By the time he could really kick start his adventure his arms are going to be sore and tired! That didn't sit well with the sighing boy, who looked like he was on the razor thin edges of boredom. For two minutes he prevailed and conquered the long hallway, and looked back with a smirk on his face, yelling, "I beat you!" His voice echoed throughout the empty corridors, his triumphant call apparent to anyone that was in there. Alas, no one was in there to experience his well deserved victory, so he turned back and began wheeling himself deeper into the castle. But no matter what he did, all he saw was corridors, crossroads, more rooms, and the occasional staff who would look back twice like they were seeing things. What was so off about a aquamarine-skinned boy that was in a wheelchair? Maybe it was because of the events that unfolded yesterday when he crashed into the throne room. It should have been known to Icetra that the people would have already known everything that transpired that fateful day. Ah well. There was no point griping about it. There was some excitement exploring the endless corridors that was a constant friend to the doughy eyed 'traveler'. He couldn't really explain how, but it was the only way to make this exploration something fun. After all, this was all he could until his legs recovered. There was no way he could walk up the stairs unless he had some of assistance. And who knows how long that will be? It may take days, weeks, months, years -- By the stars. I'm doomed. No -- no. He wasn't going to cry. That wouldn't be very manly, now would it? No, he needed to stay positive in this terrible storm of weakness. Now was time to stay strong and persevere through every that life throws him! It was time to be inspirational! To be profound! To be – well, the idea is simple to understand. Icetra was rightly pumped as heck, and had the energy to wheel himself even faster than before. Maybe a little bit too fast, because he was leaving behind a dust cloud that rattled the confused minds of the working staff. The onlooking staff members just shrugged and continue to do their business, assuming that it was more crazy nonsense that they shouldn't get involved in. He came to a screeching halt when he passed by a large purple wooden door that towered over him by three times his height. There was a red cross surrounded by a circle of white, something of which Icetra didn't recognize. Interested in what was inside this room, he placed his fingers between the cracks of the door and whispered out, "Open sesame!" Whenever it was the utterance or his force, it shall be unknown how the door truly opened, but one could see he was giddy. Although when the door opened it was only by a little bit, just enough for a crack to form so that one of his energetic eyes could peer through. Looking inside he spotted several strange equipment and could hear the signs of beeping and wheezing air. Being that he wasn't familiar with medical equipment he couldn't tell that he was inside the hospital. Although it was the length and width of a nurse's office, it still held the equipment necessary to treat patients. But all that he could guess that he was peering through some strange room that carried strange, intricate machinery that could have done anything, such is the naivety of Icetra. Growing curious he opened the door fully, creaking at his forceful touch. The only ones inside the room was a couple of nurses and some filled beds that carried the sick and injured, but from what Icetra could it was nothing too serious. Turning his head around he spotted a chocolate brown pegasus and a Earth pony with a purple coat and a emerald mane, conversing with each other. His ears perked up at the sounds of voices, outwardly stretching slightly so that he could get a better 'signal', all the while wheeling over to the desk. "For the last time Lindt, you're not sick," said the emerald-maned pony matter-of-factly. "B-But I have these chest pains, a-and a massive headache that's keeping me from writing!" The chocolate pony known as Lindt blurted out hastily, a strand of nervousness wracking his form. "As I've said time and time again, I could not find nothing serious. It must be your overactive imagination again," said the purple pony, mindlessly searching through the pages on her clipboard. "Oh c'mon Emmy," uttered the nervous Lindt, "you have to believe me!" "It's hard to accept that every time you come here you complain about a sickness, and even more difficult to believe it's some silly prediction." "But it's true," blurting it out as if it were fact, "the chest pains means that something baaaaad is going to happen!" "Listen --" Before Icetra could catch those last words, he bumped into the desk abruptly, drawing the attention of the creamy Earth pony who bore a blazing red mane. She looked about him with small amounts of confusion that only began to increase, trying to recall who or what this...'thing' was. Sparing a few short glaces, it appeared to be a bipedaled being that had blue skin. It was bizzare to the bewildered pony, who couldn't stop looking at him. "Um...are you alright?" Icetra questioned, the confusion in the pony's face evident to the surprised boy. "W-What are you?" she asked this with fear beginning to bubble onto the surface. "That's a strange question, don't you think?" He said with a devilish grin on his face, flashing those dangerous canines of his which probably didn't help the situation. "It's always best to give out your name if you desire mine." He uttered this with oozing confidence pouring out of every word. "M-My name is Ember..." "I thank you, madam. Please, know me as Icetra, if you will." "O-okay," said a slowly blushing mare. Placing a bent arm onto the desk, he leaned over close to gaze into those precious eyes of fiery red, smiling wryly, "Are you scared of me Ember?" She wanted to nod her head, but for consideration to the 'gentleman', she shook her head sheepishly. Looking downward to face her hooves, she spoke in a manner that quite cute but was obviously she was terrified of his presence. "Um...n-no." Icetra could sense and see that she was terrified of his presence, which only brought the heavy weight of sadness upon his beating heart. He was determined to ease the soul of this pony, as she may very well be the one that'll have the honor of being his first friend. He talked in a gentle manner, much like one does to a scared animal, but poured as much kindness and honesty into his words as humanly possible. "It's obvious that you're terrified of me because of yesterday, right?" Ember didn't say anything at first, keeping her head down. After a few seconds she muttered something that was almost incomprehensible, which made Icetra question her once more. Finally she responded in a way that made some sense, but it was quiet and shy. "Y-Yes..." Icetra shook his head, forming a pleasant smile. Ruffling up his hair sheepishly, he chuckled sheepishly, tiling his head north westward just to face a light bulb hanging on the ceiling. "Your Princess Celestia is a honest, good mare who would never jeopardize the livelihoods of her people. Wouldn't that mean that by not banishing me to reaches unknown, she has placed her trust in someone that is confident he shall not harm her precious citizens?" Her ears flattened, backing away a little bit in shock. But then after she began to think about his words, her ears jolted upward before slowly flattening back. She closed her eyes and sighed, slowing nodding in agreement to Icetra's speech. A smile began to form on Ember's face, revealed to the strange visitor. This only brought Icetra's smile to widen considerably, to the point that it seemed almost inhuman. "Yeah, I guess you're right. I'm sorry I just assumed you were some monster. But it happened all so suddenly," she said shyly. Mission Accomplished! Or maybe he would regret thinking those words prematurely, although he was quite sure the problem was rectified. But maybe for those two other ponies it was too late, for they were already long gone during the conversation. Sighing, he directed his full attention back to the adorable Ember, who was doing yet another quick analyses toward the smiling boy. But this time it wasn't out of fear, but of undiluted curiosity. "So really...w-what are you?" Icetra tapped a lone finger upon his chin, trying to come up with an answer that was relevant to the question. But no matter how hard he thought of it, there was no way that question could be answered so easily if his memories were truly gone. Regrettably he responded back with a sad undertone in his voice, shrugging his shoulders with a frown on his face. "Sorry...but I can't really answer that. Amnesia is a brutal customer." Ember frowned, placing a conforting hoof upon his shoulder while patting it calmly. " Oh, you poor thing. It must be hard." Icetra once more shrugged his shoulders, not seemingly caring much about his 'dire' fate. "It bothered me at first, but now I'm just taking life in strides. If something happens, it happens. All I can do is live my life and prosper under its firm grace." Ember smiled serenely at his uplifting response. "What a positive way to look at life. I'm rooting for you all the way!" "Thank you! It's nice to know I have a friend backing me up!" Ember looked confused, tilting her head rightward while gazing towards Icetra. "F-Friend?" Icetra blinked outwardly, scrunching up his face slightly as he clapped his hands together excitedly. "Yes! Is that a problem?" "W-Well, isn't that a little too soon? I just met you." "Oh please!" he said loud enough to rouse up some of the sleeping patients. "It's never a bad thing to have alot of friends, even if it a first meeting. After all, a good friend is what you need to perk you up on any sad day!" Ember talked in a hushed voice, placing a hoof on her mouth as she tried to shush him. "Shh! You'll wake up the patients." Icetra nervously laughed, scratching the corner of his mouth sheepishly while bearing a goofy smile. "Ehehe...sorry. But you get what I mean, right?" Ember nodded, although she still wasn't exactly sure that it was a good idea to make friends with this mysterious being so suddenly. Although maybe it wouldn't be so bad, since she can study him more closely. Her eyes turned into fiery flames at this thought, although it was a phenom that wasn't noticeable to Icetra. It would have kept on if she didn't keep her composure, lightly breathing before responding back to the eternal smiling boy. "W-Well...we would have to spend more time together. Getting to know each other." Icetra pondered this for a moment, and couldn't agree with her more! Nodding vigorously he kept up that smiling, joyous expression while responding happily to the mare. "I couldn't agree with you more. Let's make a date of it, shall we?" Ember blushed profusely, grabbing her burning face with her forelegs while wearing a bashful smile. "W-W-What?!" Icetra just blinked at her, pratically raising a question mark above his head. Planting a fingertip upon his soft cheek, he merely stared at her. "Huh? All I'm asking is that we just spend some time together so we can be friends." Ember grasped her chest and released a heavy breath, relieving herself of that embarrassing moment. "O-Oh, I see. Yes, let's," she said with a gentle smile. "What's a good time for you?" asked Icetra Ember paused for a moment, but then responded back, albeit quiet. "Oh, uh how about Tuesday at five-thirty PM?" "I kinda don't have a calendar." "It's in four more days," she said casually. "Oh. Well, I shall be free. On any day really." "Good to hear," she said with a wink and a smile. Icetra visibly blushed, beginning to laugh sheepishly. Ember too began to laugh in the same manner, and they would continue to do this if not for the single thought that intruded in Icetra's mind. Interrupting the laughter he asked her a question that he was unsure of asking, but, well, he did it anyway. "Do you have any bandages?" And so the bandage clad 'warrior' came out from the room, his feet wrapped around with white strips of cloth that effortlessly concealed his disgusting feet. At first Icetra had to explain the reason as to why he needed them, because Ember was surprised that he needed those bandages. She was afraid that he was wounded, or something that concerned bloody appendages and other foul things that was directly linked to blood. But no, it was just to cover his feet. She responded with the blankest stare Icetra has possibly seen, maybe even before he obtained amnesia. With some sweet talking and a little bit of explanation on the fact that his feet were ugly and ghoulish, she procured him some strips to help him with his trouble. This was to be sure his great efforts of convincing the lady to become friends with him, which explained why he wore his cocky grin. Now he needed to decide what to do next. There was the chance to explore the castle again, but he'll have to face the onslaught of corridors and the infinite doors that peppered the hallways. He could always try to find the library, but he wouldn't know where to start. But if he could find it should give him a helping chance to study this new world. Learning new legends, seeing different types of flora and fauna, experiencing the riveting tales of several literature lining the bookshelves. Ah, books were so wonderful. Icetra was pratically drooling from the very thought of exploring those 'papery' depths. "Wait. I could just always ask Ember." Well that was a solution that was easily. Opening the doors once more he wheeled over to Ember and asked her where the library was. With some directions and bit of explaining pertaining to navigating the castle, he now has precise information that'll lead to his treasure trove of knowledge. But before he had the chance to leave, Ember called out to him which caused him to turn his head over to the mare's direction. "Maybe you should ask the princess for a pass. The librarian is really funny on who she lends books to." "Hm. Good to know. Where could I find the princess?" "Right now she's in Day Court. Just take a left and then a right when you arrive at the library, then go all the wait straight until you see a line. That's where the throne room is." "Day Court?" "Celestia lets the citizens discuss their problems and appeals to her, and depending on the situation she tends to it. It's the same for our Princess Luna, only that's Night Court." Luna? That was a new face of royalty he assumed he was going to eventually meet, so he didn't even bother asking who she was. Instead he thanked her for those lovely answers, and left the large nurse's office. But first he needed to head back to his room and find a quill and paper so that he can chart down these directions. If it wasn't clear enough, his memory was piss poor, so having those directions is going to be immensely helpful with his 'quest'. Opening the door to his room he instantly spotted a bottle of ink and a quill laying there on the end table. He was able to find some paper in the mahogany desk beside the window, though it was scattered with other junk such as hard candies and change. Grabbing at least two pieces of paper, he jotted down some rough directions and a little map that he surmised that'll be filled out as he goes along. After writing down the proper instructions that led to the library, he grabbed the pieces of paper, refilled the quill with ink, and placed them on his lap. After that it was time to head off to the library. Left, left, right, left, right... Following those set of commands along with a few twists and turns here and there led him to the entrance to the library. This door was smaller than the others, bearing a light purple coloring on the wood. Emblazoned on the door was golden letters simply saying, "Library," right on the top of the door. The doorknob was also richly prominent, appearing to be made entirely out either diamond or crystal. Here lies a room that was rich with unknown knowledges and key elements that should be of a great help to his future endeavors. He wasn't going to stay here forever after all, and there will come a time when he'll explore this land to its fullest. But for that to work he'll need all the intellect and knowledge he could receive by learning as much as he could about this strange magical world. Placing a wrapped hand around the fancy doorknob, he would twist and turn it until he remembered the vital words of a certain nurse. With a frown he released his grip, nodding solemnly. Before he could do anything he'll need to talk to the princess for a pass. After that this little trial will be over. First he had to write down the necessary scribble scrabble so that he can remember where he needed to go as well as lead him back to his room. He still couldn't understand why his room was so far away from what he considered the main attractions of the castle. It was almost infuriating if he was capable of performing that angry emotion. Jotting down, "Left, right, straight down until you see a line," he was now prepared to wheel himself to the throne room. He had no troubles traveling through the corridors, although the few dirty looks he received from some of the staff was enough to somewhat diminish his mood. Not enough for depression, but it was strong enough to dull down his initial excitement. Now he wore a expression of serious intent, ready to accomplish this little mission and bury himself in his precious books. Assuming that a few minutes had passed, lo and behold there was a long line of crowded ponies. Each of them wore expressions of different qualities, though most of them presented themselves sour or angry. Some were garbed in fanciful attire that Icetra could tell from first glance they were nobles. Quietly pushing the wheels he shifted through the crowd and wheeled on over to the end of the line, ignoring the shady looks of the ponies. None of them said anything, but one noble in particular was hyperventilating from his very appearance. He soon ran off screaming in the distance, which made Icetra wince. Was his appearance that off putting? He didn't exactly look fearsome. Maybe these ponies were very skittish? That could happen in a world where peace reigns and chaos is lacking. He wasn't going to let this keep him down. No sir! Without the approval of the princess he couldn't retreat to his beloved books, so there was no way he was going to let these ponies scare him off in a once in a lifetime chance! With a silent fist pump, he steeled himself for the long duration of time that would soon pass. That caused a few glances. He didn't dare try to talk to one of the ponies. No matter how much he wanted to, he knew that these ponies may be a different cut than Ember. He couldn't explain why, but there was a aura of keen consideration when talking to the demure mare. Something about her enveloped warmness around his heart, easing all the troubles that burdened him. But these ponies were absolutely terrified of him, their hearts fluttering with fear and turmoil. Some were even shaking, but that didn't seem to daunt them. Was Day Court that much of a big deal here? He didn't understand why the line was so long if this court was only for emergencies. After waiting in line for what felt like twenty minutes, he could finally get a good look at Celestia. But despite the close distance she still didn't notice him. It could have done with the heated argument between her and a noble. It was something complicated about land and some placed called Ponyville. Apparently the stallion wanted to bulldoze the land to benefit the 'stability of the rich'. Bah. Just another rich jerk that wants to bring trouble to decent, hard working folk. Then he caught the mention of an 'atrocious beast', which made Icetra listen. But his ears quivered and sunk slightly after hearing the barrage of insults toward him, and the dirty looks that the stallion shot to him. This drew Celestia's attention to look up slightly so that her eye can catch the saddened visage of Icetra. She audibly tsked, looking back to the stallion with the same motherly look. "You have come here time and time again, making this offer. But I cannot allow myself to endanger the good folks of Ponyville just to help your profits. Good day, Laphir." The stallion known as Laphir audibly mumbled something incoherent, but he still considered his manners and bowed before the princess. He trotted out of the throne room, but not before spitting out a dirty word that maaaaybe the narrator should not mention. Icetra didn't look too surprised, nor was his anger flaring up. Instead he took the word like a man should and wheeled himself over to the throne. Sitting upon a raised dais, a pond was located underneath where the majestic throne sat, pouring out crystal clear water. Throughout the entire time waiting, Icetra appreciated the length of this throne and the beauty it presented, and he still did. Stained windows depicting the cycles of the sun and moon bloomed beautifully in the sunlight. Red carpet extended until it stopped at the entranced, embroidered with gold. Two golden flat pots held two purple flowers that looked absolutely breathtaking. Behind the throne were the Equestria banners. One depicted the sun beaming down upon a lone tree, while the other, well, he was uncertain but he was sure it had something to do with the moon. "It is good to see you again, Icetra. Are you faring well?" "Yes. That embarrassing moment yesterday was a moment of weakness, but I'm sure I'm fine now. Well," he looking himself over while laughing, "if you can call it that." "Unfortunately we are not sure when you'll recover. As I said our magic is being rejected into your body, so we cannot recover the damaged wounds. All we can rely on is time." "Ugh. Waiting? So booooring!" He uttered this in a childish manner, under the throes of a temper tantrum fit for a spoiled kid. "I am aware of that, but that's all we can do. Now," she said while changing the subject, "what can I do for you?" "Oh, uh," he said while calming down. "I need a library pass." "Simple enough." Her horn glittered with magic, the princesses focusing just a little bit. In moment a puff of smoke revealed a library pass with Icetra's name, picture, and other information. It floated towards Icetra until he grabbed it hastily, practically drooling at the sight of it. Now he can enter the library! Oh, happy day! "I see someone is excited about learning," Celestia said while smirking. Icetra smiled bashfully, rubbing the back of his head softly. "Ehehe. Yeah, I am." "Good. Maybe reading those books may assist you with your little predicament." "That's what I'm betting on. Oh, before I forget --" "Yes?" Icetra looked around, trying to see if there was anyone else in the throne room. But currently it was just them conversing. Ensured that it was empty he directed his attention back to Celestia. " Why was it so crowded?" Celestia released a heavy sigh, sitting up from the throne. She walked towards Icetra but then halted after she passed the dais. Her face tensed up and made this expression that appeared so serious, enough that it gave Icetra goosebumps. "All those complaints were about the massive hole, and the one who made it." "Hole?" he questioned as he looked around. Before his eyes above was a massive, gaping hole that was five times the size of himself. To think that he created a hole of this magnitude was so baffling that he was lost for words. But he beated himself up even more for not noticing it earlier. "It's not everyday the seat of power is invaded. Naturally the citizens should be worried. But I am afraid they're beginning to be possessed by the temptation of violence. They know that you're here, Icetra, and they're enraged that I have kept you here under my good graces." "Listen princess, if you want to punish me --" "I have no intention of harming an innocent. My people must deal with this reality." "...But I do deserve some sort of penance. I'm no criminal, but if I've placed fear in the hearts of the people, it is my desire to help replace it with calmness." "I cannot see how you can do this, but I see you are honest." She said this before pausing, placing a hoof upon her chin. It fell back into place as she walked over to place a hoof right on Icetra's shoulder. The smiling visage of the princess was truly a comforting sight. "I will think of a way to help. Please, give me time." "I shall princess. And thank you," he said as he bowed his upper body. "You're too much of a good natured person, you know." "That's my style!" She giggled at his excitement, patting him on the shoulder. "Now, maybe you should go to the library?" "Oh, I almost forgot! Gah, how could I?!" He said loudly as he turned around and began wheeling himself toward the entrance of the throne room. But not before waving to her and saying the words, "See ya later princess!" He soon left the throne room, and began his pursuit toward the library. Meanwhile Celestia wore a serene smile, sighing contently as she trotted over back to the throne room. Plopping her bottom back in place, she sat on the throne while closing her eyes. Under the throes of thinking she looked up back to the spot where Icetra was. "I only hope it's nothing terrible," she said, downhearted. Deep inside the thickness of the Everfree Forest slept some of the greatest, most feared creatures in existence. Challenging the fabled cockatrice would spell certain imprisonment, or facing the chimera meant one's death would be slow and painful as that challenger is devoured. Facing just a single beast is one thing, but a hoard was something else. To face even one of these beings was a fight that would be to the death, and by feeding on the invisible magic in the air it's no wonder why these beasts have triumphed over every fight their way. A hoard of these species laid dead, clumps of blood staining the blades of dark green. Somehow a sharp beak was embedded on the bark of one of the trees, and the splattering of crimson was prevalent around the large proximity of the battle. There was even a strange tendril shaped as a phallus, continuing to wiggle about while leaking a viscous fluid. It soon was bereft of life, much to the satisfaction of the warrior that killed them all. In the shadows of the Everfree it was impossible to make out who or what the warrior was, but it was simply to see that flashing cheshire grin that gleamed in the darkness, full of devious and wicked intent. The clumps and splatters of blood was now beginning to be drawn from their locations, swirling around as if dancing with each other. The performance formed a sphere of blood that bubbled occasionally, floating alongside the warrior. It then went toward the open palm of the mysterious being, floating upward before this mad person. While one would expect the cliche cackles of a demented being, nothing came to. Four spell circles surrounded the sphere of blood and teleported it in a flash of holy lightning. This satisfied the entity, causing him to shift his arm aloft. Holding a staff of alabaster decorated with blessed wings, it summoned a great bolt of lightning that engulfed the form of the caster. It then disappeared as quick as it came, leaving behind the scorched remains of the beasts' corpses and the bloodless battlefield. Author's Note The first chapter of the story! Looking at it, I am reminded of someone who once attempted to edit this story. Needless to say it didn't go well. I took the criticism to heart, but I'm not sure if I made any improvements since then. As the reader, what do you think? If you have any criticisms whatsoever please, shoot! I'll welcome them in open arms! //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 2 - Slow Recovery //-------------------------------------------------------// Chapter 2 - Slow Recovery Recovering is always a terrible bore, no matter who or what you are. This was apparent with the amnesiac visitor, who looked so down and spiritless that yawning was a constant guest. His entire body told him to go out and exercise, to experience the fresh air blowing against his skin while running miles and miles into the horizon. But with a broken arm and leg, as well the nurses constant whining over him resting, there was nothing he could do. When he had time to think about it(and it was constantly), he was very lucky to obtain these small injuries when considering the impact and fall he made. More than just his arm should've been shattered, even if he was a magical being. Then again, if what they said was true, then he couldn't properly distribute magic within his body. Maybe that could be the empty feeling he's been getting lately? After all, if something that’s a part of you was severed from your very being, it wouldn't exactly be a field trip. It's been a week since that fateful day. Right now the full moon was out tonight, its starry blessings peppering the sky above. Whenever he looked out at the window to take a few glances, or even just a momentary pause, he felt content and happy that he could see it. Like it was a great honor to be watching something so magnificent and perfect, that it helped him ignore the pain that lanced through his arm. There was something about it as well that gave him just a little bit of strength. Nothing to sneeze at, but enough to feel somewhat better if you have a cold. Icetra turned his head to spot a few books stacked together on the end table. They were novelizations of bestiaries of the native flora and fauna in their indigenous locations. One was even a romance novel that he described as 'light reading'. He grabbed a bestiary, titled "Monsters, Beasts, and Legendary Creatures: The Flora and Fauna of Equestria. Vol. 1." Written in in gold text, several clasps and straps were attached to the brown parchment book. It was written by someone named Leonardo M. Yolvin, a member of a guild named Silvaria in a faraway galaxy. The book was old and worn, either from constant use or it was so old and possibly the only copy. He wouldn't be surprised if someone kept reading it. From what he could see it was quite the interesting read, and in a few hours he would analyze and contain the information of many of the flora and fauna in the Everfree Forest, a place of chaotic reign after the spread of Harmony. This book gave more than just information on monsters. Learning about weaknesses and what they eat is one thing, but having lists of strategies is another! He wouldn't know when he'll utilize these strategies properly, but from his impending adventure this could be very useful in his endeavors. He'll need to remind himself to ask Celestia if he can keeps these books just a little longer. He may have the information now, but he can easily forget if his memories are still jumbled around. As he read through the thick pages, he didn't realize that someone entered the room. It didn't dawn on him to be distracted from such a lovely read, so he didn't even acknowledge hooves tapping in perfect rhythm. "We see you are a lover of literature," the visitor said slyly. Icetra jumped at the sound of noise, quickly turning around to face who this intruder was. Well it wasn't another nurse, but an additional Alicorn. This must be Celestia's sister, Princess Luna. From the time he's been here they never encountered each other, so it was surely a surprise until he remembered that this was royalty he was dealing with. Celestia was kind and loving, but he always felt tense around someone with such a high status, especially with the damage he's caused. "It is a fine night to read. And with my crestfallen condition I don't have much of a choice, Lady of the Night." Titles always did seem to do the trick when it came to impressing folks. And indeed she smiled, quite happily in fact. "Such a smooth talker for one so young. Tell us, dost – do you really enjoy our night?" "There's something about the moon that gives me strength. It's as if it's trying to draw out a wellspring of primal power that's locked and hidden away within myself. So yes, I do enjoy your night." Those compliments about her night made the alicorn mare smile. That someone believed that the night was so sacred, so beautiful sitting before her, was truly something. Something to remember in the future, she thought. She walked over to peer at the book he was reading, perking an eyebrow curiously. "This has never appeared in this book before. How did you encounter it?" Referring to the chapter title which read: "Undocumented: Essentia Devouratrix". Icetra had no idea how he was able to locate it, explaining that he mindlessly explored the book's pages. Strong curiosity was apparent in the air as they both read the section with a mix of suspicion and wonder. The pages told of monstrosities that devoured on a power called 'Essence', leaving behind a path of barren death as they ate. Mistakes of a noted goddess, they live within the streams of time as well as using them as a means of travel to attack unsuspecting worlds. They stopped once everything turned blank, save for two sentences in the middle that read: "The true character of Balance has shifted. Beware intrepid Guardian." The two had looks of bewilderment, Icetra flipping the pages hastily. Once he couldn't find anything he sighed, closing the book with hesitance. "Well...that was odd." "Indeed it was. These pages have never appeared before, and what we discovered is shocking at best." "Essentia Devouratrix. That strange warning...the two must be connection in some way. Have you seen these creatures before?" "None. It has never crossed our official bestiaries." Icetra frowned languidly, scratching at the tip of his temple. "Why do I feel this is familiar," he questioned. Trying to make an attempt to think about caused a headache that rattled his mind. Grasping his forehead he hollered out something that was incoherent, bringing forth concern to the dark blue alicorn. After a few moments it quickly went away, but already beads of sweat began to form around his body, and such a terrible shiver that gave him goosebumps. Luna looked worried, placing a hoof upon his shoulder. "You shouldn't overthink it - for now. We will show this to our sister," she said as she casted a levitation spell on the book. "She will be interested in this." Icetra simply nodded, knowing that if the two worked together they could make some sense of this. But he couldn't shake the feeling that this was his doing. Was the book under the influence of an identity spell that once the designated target touched the pages it would reveal hidden contents? That would be the only purpose of the writer, but why him? Why was he destined as some great hero who saves everyone? It didn't sound bad, mind, but something prodding in his head continued to tell him that this was too dangerous. If he's the only one to do this, then what choice does he have? "Very well. I think for now I'll rest. I'm feeling a little sleepy," he said groggily. "Of course. We shall take our leave, Icetra." In moments he was alone in the lofty room, laying down on the comfy bed that will soon draw him into a deep sleep. Unfortunately he did not sleep well, for dreams of the fragmented past continued to haunt his resting moments. Two allies facing against a powerful foe who wore a rictus grin that only heightened his demonic features. A man shaped to be thin; lithe and agile. Red scales adorned his body while his tan underbelly was sculpted to perfection. A tail with spikes on the tip slithered quietly on the regal blood rug, thumping in response to the owner's fury. Twelve horns, both curled and straightened, were scattered around his body: two foot horns rising from his head, another two at the back curled downward, and an additional duo attached to the temple, curled downwards than upwards at the tips. The rest were shaped like thin blades around his arms; protruding dangerous spikes ready to skewer his foes. Lizard-like ruby eyes stared at the two with pure malice, clawed extremities massaging the hiltless, curved black blade maliciously. A hiss escaped him as he talked, revealing sharp canines and a serpentine tongue. "Do you really believe you can match me now, after all this time?" The duo looked at each other, nodding in response to whatever was told as sapphire and topaz eyes met. They jumped high in the air and in unison did they attack their enemy. One with a silver blade that was wrapped in wintry wind, and a futuristic plasma gun that shot neon lasers. The halls of the throne room, a demonically twisted room of regal decorations, were filled with the noises of blades clashing and the hail of laser beams that followed. Icetra and the mysterious enemy were now face to face, their blades meeting brutishly like powerful rivals ready to kill each other. Sparks escaped from the magical metals, both beginning to gather frost as the cold wind pulsated gusts in constant intervals. As the two parted and clashed yet again, slashing and hacking like true warriors, his partner tried to get a good shot as he aimed his plasma gun right to his brain(he presumed). Two shots later the demon was knocked back temporarily, vulnerable to the leaping slash of chilling cold that sliced him horizontally and vertically four times. The demon screamed before laughing maniacally, frost gathering around his wounds before it broke from the force that spewed out before them. Essence, the lifeblood of the users that were blessed with the gods gift, was splattering and shooting out in different directions. It was quickly absorbed right back into his body, knitting his wounds while sending a shockwave that blasted the two from their feet. "I am not impressed. Is it not funny that I'm just a simple being amongst a legend? I bet it's hilarious and humiliating - for you!" Two quick jerks with the black curved blade in a X formation sent out two waves of ebony energy, filled with the potent chaotic and lusty foci of the demon that summoned them. Icetra was able to stand up in time to erect a barrier that held its ground, reversing the collided energy with his power and reflecting it back to the original caster. The demon let out a silvery laugh, shrugging his shoulders before literally slapping the X-shaped energy like a pimp. It escaped upwards through the ceiling, blasting it with enough force to send out two miniature shockwaves that ruptured the weakening barrier. Now the two warriors were dodging collapsing boulders and debris while the shooter blasted the rocks into dust. The spiky, blond-haired gunman yelled out to his partner, along the way trying to blast the demon that was charging straight to his friend. "Lucyana shall be here soon! Do not falter until she arrives!" "I know, dammit! But he's too strong," he said as he met with the demon's blade, bursts of black and blue energy hurtling and colliding from the frequency of the blades. In time the two did enough damage to weaken the walls of the throne room, those four mountain carved walls ready to collapse. Leaping into the air, they performed a series of gymnastics that brought their blades to constantly meet each other, releasing large shockwaves as they made the air their playground. It sent and destroyed the skull-embedded throne as well the stained windows, sending glass all around the battlefield. One chunk unfortunately struck the blue-haired warrior's forehead clean, disorienting him. He didn't have enough time to repel the incoming clawed slap that sent him skyrocketing to the archway stone doors. His partner yelled his name, shooting rapidly at the demon who was reflecting every laser that was sent his way with the pimping power of his right hand. Not wasting his time he charged forward and slashed the gunman rapidly in numerous directions before twisting and spinning his body to smack him with his spiked tail. It wouldn't be long before the duo would join together with the same fate, both leaking out different hued Essence correspondent to their innate features: blue and yellow respectively. "This doesn't bode well for us," said the blond individual. "You're telling me. Dumb demons are always cheating." The blue-haired warrior spat at the ground, before coughing and heaving from the pain. "Where's a fairy when you need 'em..." "Hopefully before this moment, because Hasha is casting...something." Indeed he was, as the demon now known as Hasha was casting a spell that was best described as lewd. Sex symbols were instead the runes that aligned and fueled the spell, as this one was created from the bottomless pit of his lust. During the entire time he had this demonic smile that could give anyone the willies, revealing his dangerous, dagger-like canines. As the spell became stronger, surrounding the caster in a black aura that was beginning to grow haywire, he laughed with insane intent, his wide dilated eyes taking the same feature. "Now become what you're fighting for, and suffer from the weight of sin!" The spell appeared ready to explode before it was casted, letting out a loud, sensual womanly moan. "Oh shit," they both said together, unable to move away from the sphere of pure lust. "GAAAAH!" Icetra shot up to sit down, screaming at the top of his lungs. Bally blue blazes! That dream was going fine, too intense, and then to something so horrible that he couldn't describe in words. Even if the dream didn't finish he could tell something terrible did befall himself and the other, who could be described as a 'technomancer' with his strange mechanical attire. Or maybe the shock of it all made him overreact. Whatever it was, it was an unpleasant alarm that woke him during today's sunrise. Since he's arrived in this crippling state he's always had breakfast, lunch and dinner in his room. The food usually consisted of fruits and vegetables that were so fresh and delectable it had to be forbidden. Today would be a little different. He was currently being wheeled by a nurse, who was requested by Icetra to allow him to do it himself. This one was real grumpy but more serious of her job, saying she can't upset the wishes of the princess. He muttered grumpily before reluctantly accepting his lazy fate. A few minutes later he was wheeled in the royal dining room, which was comprised of the same lofty designs, paintings, and the archway that they entered. The round table was smaller than expected, though it was large and wide enough to hold ten people. Upon it were an assortments of fruits, vegetables, tea, and snacks. Scones, cinnamon rolls, buttery biscuits...they were so many delights he couldn't stop drooling. The princesses must go through a tight training regimen to keep their figures from sagging. Before him were the princesses, who continued their daily business until they heard the creaking of the door, an obvious signal that someone has entered the royal dining room. Celestia stopped eating to say good morning to the drooling dragon, humored by his silliness. Luna merely looked up and nodded, returning as quick as she greeted to her pancakes. Celestia was calmly eating a stack of waffles along with orange juice when he came in. And now Icetra would be eyeing the entire menu right in front of him, starting with the warm, flaky cinnamon rolls that were quickly devoured. The icing, the cinnamon, hints of buttery deliciousness - it was truly divine. A simple confection had to be made by a chef of the highest caliber. The trio talked about small, inconsequential things. Some topics were reached about the continent of Equestria, its stability and the citizens that dwelled on the massive piece of land. It was interesting to learn that it was the only major continent of this planet, along with a few archipelagos and islands that dotted the sea. Celestia told a story about why the planet Ether was in this condition, about a horrific war that sunk all the continents into the maw of the perilous sea. Equestria survived merely by a lucky shot, from an ancient barrier that is still erected from the old days. It's why the continent was so peaceful, as it repelled invasions from the Dragons and Griffins as well as strange anomalies that threatened the stability of the land. When Icetra asked as to how he was able to enter Equestria if the barrier was in place, he was simply told that he appeared inside from the barrier. If it were the opposite it was a high possibility that he may be sent straight into the ocean. He couldn't help but thank whatever force out there spared him from that fate. Then again, what if he was just merely sent to the other islands or mountains that houses the Dragons and Griffins? He doubt he would get the same gentleness and courtesies like Equestria, as Luna earlier pointed out in the conversation that they were more vicious and territorial than the ponies. Only ten minutes have passed since that conversation. The rest of the food was devoured by none other than Icetra himself, stomach protruding while he wore a smile of content. He vaguely wondered if this will cause his weight gain to rise exponentially, though he dismissed the thought as he returned to enjoy the feeling of fullness. The two sisters were surprised at first that such a skinny kid could eat so much, nearly surprised that he wasn't already thick. But they accepted it quickly, giggling at his ravenous appetite. Icetra did a long sigh, patting his belly like one would to a drum. He stopped instantly after he felt a little queasy. "After I heal I'm going to need to train. I will not accept being a chubby dragon." Celestia giggled, "It wouldn't be so bad to gain a little weight. You're too," she slowly paused, trying to word it without sounding offensive. "Skinny. Thou – You are shaped like a rail. Unacceptable for a warrior." Icetra placed his hands on his stomach, looking at Luna with a raised eyebrow. "What makes you think I'm a warrior?" "We can feel the fire inside of you. It has a desire to be tempered." Celestia chimed in to agree. "Yes, I can feel it too, though gaining more muscle might ruin your potential. You seem more built for agility rather than brute strength." Luna chimed in, "But you need strength if you ever going to hurt someone. It's impossible to do anything with the strength of a gnat." The white alicorn simply stared at her with a small frown. "Let us not have this argument again, dear sister." Icetra was just sitting there, all quiet like as he watched the two in the boundaries of a potential heated argument. "That's sure a hot topic for you two, huh?" They both blushed before looking at each other, then scoffing while turning back with a 'harumph'. Icetra couldn't help but chuckle at the childish display. They were once more caught up in conversation, slowly drifting to the notes that they found in the bestiary. Celestia was surprised to hear of an additional set of notes about these strange, legendary creatures. She didn't exactly seem too worried, more or less intrigued by such a discovery. Icetra expressed his concern after telling the two that one day these monsters could invade Ether one day. But it was quickly dismissed by a alabaster hoof, as Celestia explained the barrier would protect them from the attack. Although she and her sister will be there if they try to conquer the rest of the world. When Icetra asked if they knew the writer well, all they said was that he was an eccentric feline who wanted nothing more to learn about the indigenous flora and fauna of Ether. He wasn't much for socialization, but reliable in troubling times. It was Leonardo that discovered the cure for Poison Joke, as in the past people suffered from its pranks without anyway to stave off the effects. The trio began to leave the room together, continuing their little chat as the staff ponies walked over to take and clean the dishes. While the sisters were conversing with each other, Icetra took the chance to think of his condition again. He may be thinking about it too hard, but he couldn't help it! Staying trapped like this, along with the confusing mess that is amnesia looming over him was beginning to become a bit too much. He needed excitement! To play in the fields and dance in the sunlight! Or feel the wet touch of the raining heavens under his soles. He looked up to the princesses and expressed this, downhearted through the entire explanation. The princesses looked back and nodded, revealing two smiles. "Worry not, Icetra. While your arm and leg are not currently healing, our latest test show that your body is slowing taking in the magic in the air. Which means good results for your wounds." "Yes, it's quite amazing at the speed it's going. Only Mystics carry such a gift," said the nurse who was pushing the wheelchair. "I know, I know. Time will heal all wounds 'n junk...but I just wish it would be over soon. It may be a big room, but I feel so cramped in there." Celestia patted his shoulder, looking down to him with a warm smile. "Your wish will only intensify if you're patient. Do just that and I assure you you'll enjoy yourself more." She turned her head to face one of the windows, glancing at the gardens below before returning her gaze to Icetra. "Do you wish to go to the gardens with us, Icetra?" "Sure, why not? I need the fresh air." It didn't take as long as before going to gardens, as for this method they were teleported in front of the hedge archway. Icetra remembers fondly of going to this lengthy maze yesterday, having quite a blast yesterday with Ember. He befriended some of the animals that dwelled within, striking some surprise to the last nurse that wheeled him here. Apparently the animals take care of themselves in the gardens, which means they don't interact with many people. Frankly he found it was easy talking to them by just simply talking as if they were normal human beings. He couldn't understand them but they can tell they were happy to see him, and it warmed his heart to witness such emotions from those cuddly animals. It was obvious when they crossed and traveled leisurely through the maze that they met the animals who at first jumped out in surprise, before spotting Icetra. Their attitudes went through a 360 as they hopped, cried, and eeped in excitement. A bunny jumped right straight into Icetra's lap, its beady eyes staring into cerulean. He couldn't help but pet the adorable mess of fur, smiling as he did so. Celestia and Luna awwed at the cute display, grinning widely. Icetra couldn't help but blush, "It's a mystery why they're attached to me, but I'm not complaining," he said through chuckling. They followed suit until they reached the statues, scurrying away from the stone statues. He never knew why they ran away at the sight of these constructs, but apparently some of these troubled souls were locked away for past crimes. One massacred an entire village, while another was an infamous bandit who pillaged and killed for the fun of it. He wasn't aware of the others that covered this section, and he didn't want to know. The one that always confused him was this statue that was an amalgamation of different animals parts. To describe it would take too long to even ponder about it, but its recognizable features were the goat's goatee and mismatched eyes, as well the pony head. He was posed in a cheerful manner, as if he were singing in praise. Imprisonment must have been nothing compared to what he done. Celestia trotted over next to him to eye the statue as if it were an iniquitous light. "This is Discord, the Spirit of Chaos that once ruled Equestria with an iron fist. He pranked this land to submission, crippling and destroying our people's homes, businesses, and the very thing that gives them hope." She told him of what he done. Chocolate rain, cotton candy ponies, turning the ground into peanut brittle...it seemed that this Discord truly loved decadence. Basically what he was doing was probably ruining crops, deteriorating houses, and just plain causing craziness. Celestia explained that Discord was the reason why the unicorns had to navigate the weather, as the influx of chaotic magic made irreversible effects on the environment. What kind of power this mysterious creature wielded to ruin the weather itself? He flinched, a little bit relieved that this being was locked away. "We cannot allow this insane anomaly to escape his prison, else it will spell doom to Equestria." said Luna who look so crossed. Sure, doing those terrible things warrant an arrest, but maybe imprisoning someone with their own thoughts for so long probably wasn't the best for sanity. He almost felt bad for the pompous chimera. From that though he could've sworn the left eye of the statue gleamed maliciously. Must be a trick of the light. "Haven't you thought of rehabilitation for your criminals? Imprisoning them makes sure your people are safe, but if they ever escape again it would only make things worse." "No, Icetra. While it could work for some of our criminals, we cannot risk the safety of our ponies. Discord is far from our reach," Celestia said sternly. It felt like she was lecturing Icetra. Was his kindness misplaced to someone that deserved this fate? Or was it truly unjust to just lock someone away in stone for a thousand years? This was a conflict that would stay with Icetra like heartburn. "The seal is still intact, sister," said Luna. "Good. Icetra, do you want to return to the room?" "Nah. I think I'm in the mood for the library." "Very well. We'll teleport you there and send a nurse to keep an eye on you." Now Icetra was starting to look a little peeved. "Celestia, this is not needed. I can take care of myself." She simply shook her head. "Don't give me that. Until you recover you will be assisted by a nurse. We still have little understanding of your biology, and anything can happen. It is imperative that someone is near when that occurs." Icetra reluctantly agreed, frowning slightly. "...Fine. But I will express my dislike for it." "And while you're doing that we'll teleport you to the library." She smiled while casting a spell. In an instant they were inside the room where thousands of books were housed in monstrous wooden bookshelves. This place always had class when he came into this gigantic room. Celestia was now the one that pushed his wheelchair over to the desk, of which the designated seater felt embarrassed. Of why he did not understand but it may have something to do with royalty taking over a servant's position. These alicorns were too humble. The librarian questioned Icetra as to what books he wanted to check out. That is, until she recognized him and pointed out that he already checked out some books yesterday. Having no desire to check out more, he merely requested where he could locate a list of different books that would expand his knowledge of Equestria. In moments the unicorn teleported a stack that had to been at least thirteen feet tall. "Enjoy your reading, sir." "Oh, I most definitely will," he said with excitement in his voice. Celestia giggled over his joy, remembering a certain unicorn that carried the same enthusiasm. It shouldn't have taken so long for the two to meet, but the two were far away from each other. Now Icetra was starting to follow the same pattern much like her student. Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea for the two to meet one day. "I must leave you, Icetra. I need to open up the court. I'm pretty sure you're sleepy, Luna." "Indeed. Have a good time you two." "A good time in court? Yes, that'll be interesting." Icetra didn't respond to the sisters, already engrossed in the rippling tale of Equestria's Founding. He sighed contently, carrying a dreamy expression from the huge enjoyment of reading his beloved books. "He's just like your student, sister." "Yes, I'm sure they'll get along great one day." Thus they walked away and left the library, leaving behind a studious dragon to his books. Maybe the sister knew he would be here for a while, for the nurse didn't arrive until night. For over thirteen hours he was reading the stack that was now a neat pile, and there was only one book he didn't finish yet. Labeled the 'Mare in the Moon', it was a short pile of pages that from what he read in the beginning, was about a mare who wanted nothing more than for her ponies to enjoy the night. But the ponies played in the day while they slept in the night. Jealous of this, she tried to cast an eternal night upon the land so that all can enjoy it forevermore. It wasn't long before she was sealed in the moon by Celestia, which was discovered through some thinking that this 'Nightmare Moon' was Luna. By asking the night time librarian he discovered that there was a prophecy that would bring Nightmare Moon to return, and that she did appear a year ago. The Elements of Harmony thwarted her attempts at casting an eternal night, and through the prismatic light of the Elements was the darkness of Luna shredded and banished, returning the Princess to them. To think that in the past she harboured so much jealousy in her heart, just because she assumed no one enjoyed her night. While one would usually harbor some form of resentment that Luna could have utterly destroyed everything if the night persisted, Icetra didn’t understand this. Rather, he was almost delighted at the idea of an eternal night. Rational thought casted away by child-like intrigue, Icetra squeed at this concept. But he knew it was never going to happen, and with good reason. Luckily the book was short enough that he was able to buy some time from the nurse before he had to leave the vicinity. Once he was finished, he was being pushed by the nurse back to his room. This was the same one from earlier, and from recognizing her he tried to make conversation. They talked about small, miniscule things that could be applied to everyday life, including her name. He found out her name was Bonnie Crest, a Earth pony that has worked here for two years. The two did get along great, until they arrived at the door. They almost seemed sad that they had to part, until Icetra made a offer for her to come inside with him. "After all, you guys need to keep tabs on me, right? It wouldn't be such a bad idea." Bonnie Crest smiled at him, nodding. "Hmm...okay, I'll join you." After that good times were heading for the chatty duo. Gossip, exchanging recipes and sound advice of a lovely was something Icetra needed. Sure, there was the sister princesses but he always felt constricted when talking to them. It felt nice talking to someone with the same class, even if she was working with the princesses themselves. "One of these days we'll have to get you to try pumpkin pie. It is simply divine." "It sounds delicious. Pie and cake appears to be quite a staple for ponykind." Bonnie Crest nodded in response. "Yes, our princess partakes the usual vanilla, buttercream frosting cake that we serve her." The mention of cake brought him to a thought about Celestia that he noticed when she was trotting. "So is that why --" "Yes." "How did you --" "It comes up naturally," she muttered, giggling along. "Just don't mention it around her." "Do you truly think I'm that wrong?" "Weeeeell, you seem too playful for your own good." "Pshaw, I am quite proper when I'm around the ladies," he said with an exaggerated hand wave. "More like overcompensating for something, you heartbreaker~" For some reason he looked and felt quite offended at that remark, but he didn't understand as to why. Must have been some sort of reflex that wasn't shaken off during his amnesiac condition. He simply shrugged while eyeing at her carefully, chuckling nervously. "I-I don't know what you mean..." "I'm kidding. I'm sure you're fine down there," she said while bumping her hoof at his right thigh. She couldn't help but chuckle at seeing the cute reaction that Icetra made, as well the dim scarlet red flushed on his pale blue cheeks. Icetra was surprised at how bold this mare was, but he surely didn't mind a bit of playfulness. As long the two were laughing and joking along the ride, anything can happen if it wasn't, well, perverse. But the time of playing would soon be over, as a sleepy yawn escaped through his opened mouth, stretching his arms and legs high and wide. Bonnie could obviously see that he was beginning to become restless, so she left the room with a warm goodbye to follow. But before she had the chance to leave Icetra called out to her. "You're the second open minded pony I've met. I must ask, why aren't you scared of me?" Bonnie Crest responded so quickly that Icetra almost didn't have the chance to finish his sentence. "Because the princess trusts you. Some ponies are ignorant to the fact that anyone the princess considers a friend is a friend to all of us." Icetra nodded, wearing a beatific smile. "I'm glad that you think that way, Bonnie." With that Bonnie Crest nodded and left the room, shooting a smile to the already smiling boy. Icetra could feel that today's sleep won't be so bad. He had a good breakfast, went to see the gardens, and read a bunch of books that broadened his considerably small horizons. Not to mention he made a new friend out of it all, though her being a major tease would bother him, if he actually understood what it meant. So now our hero sleeps under the moon's gaze, snoring peacefully under the cool side of the bed. No haunting dreams came to him this time, only ones of soothing calmness and good times. Meanwhile, inside the throne room of Canterlot were two Alicorn sisters caught up in a heated discussion that brought fixed expressions of worry and concern. "Perhaps we could --" "No sister, he is not ready." "But all we would need is his soul to assist me!" "And what if he can't remember how to fight? Muscle memory is nothing if he cannot remember how to hold a blade." "We have seen his scattered dreams, and could tell that he is a magic knight of sorts. He has many tricks up his sleeve..." "...That he cannot remember. I'm sorry, but until he can recover his abilities the Protector cannot engage in combat." "It's because of HIM that we're in this predicament! Haven't the legends always said, "Come once, come twice, doth the Protector bring and cleave down evil, to revival and destruction?" "Of course. But what can he do in his situation? We can only hope for the best, and that is for him to have a speedy recovery. But memory isn't something that just comes along..." Luna was ready to explode, unable to accept the fact that she must leave the Dreamscape in this dreadful condition. No, the boy must be able to help. He has to! Or else the ponies will never have a restful sleep. If they simply waited for Icetra to feel better it could take weeks before that happens. Appearing to look defeated, she agreed with Celestia with the condition that he'll get his needed rest until his recovery. But it would be nothing more than a lie. A lie that could very well save thousands of dreams. Celestia walked to the massive marble doors that were now being opened by her magic, and left them that way for Night Court. She looked at her sister once before turning and walking away, concern still prevalent in her mind. "Don't do anything you'll regret, Luna..." It is now the afternoon time of the next day, a setting where the sun was high in the sky. The clouds were white and puffy, the birds sang even in this monstrosity of a city, and hustle and bustle of Canterlot was loud as one would expect in a capital city. Right now Icetra was amongst the people of the city, receiving stares and glares that were a mixture of curiosity and despicable behavior. Which is likely due to his own mysterious being, especially when he practically just crashed into the seat of power like he was some kind of missile. Instead of bickering and complaining about the stares, he took them like a man and continued to be wheeled by the lovely but shy Ember to the proper destination: a old-fashioned diner with a circular white wooden sign above that read Curly Joe’s. Entering the building a ring called out as they opened the door. Icetra presumed it was some kind of communicator that alerted others. But there was no one here currently, so he guessed that this lunch would be pleasant without the scrutinous stares bombarding him. Ember took a seat to the opposite direction of where Icetra sat. He moved one of the chairs out of the way so he can make himself comfy. Although relaxing was one thing he couldn’t do just yet, as the proprietor (he assumed due to the size of the business) and the only cook manned in the back ran over to them. Icetra jerked his head to see that the brown coated, black maned stallion left behind a dust cloud from where he earlier stood, eliciting a chuckle on Icetra’s end. “Welcome to Curly Joe’s, where ponies leave with full bellies! How can I - ah!” He took one look at Icetra and nearly jumped out from his spot, his bottom lip quivering either in fear or - something else. “Y-You’re that guy who crashed into the mountain!” Icetra merely sighed, forcing himself to smile wide without looking too mischievous. “I am. You have my sincere apologies for entering this beautiful city in such a fashion,” he said while bending his upper half, promptly bowing, “there will be a punishment for such a crime, but for now your princess has allowed me an reprieve. Please, just serve us, and will we be out of your hair.” Ember was quite nervous, prepared to explain the situation if it was about to get out of hand. After all, it was her idea that Icetra should spend some time at this place, and that meant going out in Canterlot. She didn’t want this day to be ruined because of that. “Now now, no need to get so formal,” the proprietor said, his tone less shaky and nervous than before. He straightened himself up while dusting off his clothes, looking at Icetra with a look of small concern. “You don’t exactly look bad, so I’d be willing to serve ya without any trouble!” he exclaimed while smiling. Icetra responded in the same way, fixing his posture as he nodded to the owner of the store. The stallion introduced himself as Curly Joe, which confirmed our hero’s earlier suspicions. Eventually they were given menus to peruse through. It didn’t take long for the duo to order their respective food items. The dishes came in surprisingly quick, which made Icetra skeptical at first. But smelling what lies before him casted away any doubt. He quickly gobbled up the plate of piled hay fries, not even wasting time to savour the taste. No, food was meant to be eaten, and that was going to happen! Recall a certain saiyan child and you can get a good idea of what’s going on. "How can you eat so much and still stay thin?" questioned Ember, who looked flabbergasted to say the least. He raised a pointed finger near his right cheek to signal he had a stuffed mouth. After a couple moments of chewing and swallowing, he audibly "aahed". After that satisfied moment he looked back at Ember with a confused expression. "I-I don't eat that much..." "Celestia tells me things, you know. You eat more than the princess!" Icetra just blinked while shrugging, this time eating one fry at a time while he talked, trying his hardest not to spit any food at his lovely date. "Whaddaya know. She gossips. I should've expected that." Ember giggled at his response, raising an eyebrow. "Soooo." "What?" "What's your secret?" "Oh, uh," he blurted, resisting once more the temptation to devour these fries. He continued to take it slow, but it was really tearing him apart. "I don't know...fast metabolism? Freakish things like that happen to people." "Do you know how lucky you are?" she questioned, exclaiming. "You have a gift that so many mares dream of!" "I don't think it's all that big of a deal," he said while chewing. He once more raised a finger while chewing and swallowing, repeating the same action that earlier occurred. "I mean, it's nice to stay thin 'n all, but I do wish I had more meat on my bones." "When you put it like that, yeah. But think about it. Eating anything you want without the cost of gained weight? Now that's a dream." Icetra simply nodded, looking at Ember with a curious glint in his eye. "You seem very serious about your figure, Emmy." "Of course I am!" she said in a raised voice, smiling all the while. "I've worked hard to achieve the figure that I wanted for so long, but it's so hard not to mess up my regimen." All Icetra did was nod, calm in the situation of a woman who was obsessed with her figure. But he couldn't help but take a few glances at the toned mare. He had to agree, she looked good. "I don't think you have much to worry about. Unless you go crazy on cake or something." "I did that once," she paused, grimacing, "I gained four pounds that day. It took so long to lose all that weight." "It happens to all of us in the face of temptation. The key is to focus on the goal at mind so that you never lose your determination. But that's easier said than done," he muttered under his breathing, sighing. "People can be so weak sometimes." "Yes, I'm still like that. It's – It's so hard to just keep up my exercise. Sometimes I wish I could just give up and just lay on the couch." Icetra frowned slightly, facing downward as began his crestfallen mood. "I'm sorry if I offended." "No...you're right. I need to stop beating myself up. I need to work 1100% all the way!" "N-Now now, there's such a thing called too much effort," he said while chuckling. She chuckled at his comment, beaming a beautiful smile while she did so. Delicately drinking down the glass of water, she placed it back on the table with a resounding thump. "You're really something, you know that?" "What do you mean?" Icetra questioned. "You're just...so fascinating to be around. The raw energy, the influential aura. You're so gregarious." "Grega – what?" he questioned, baffled. "It means being friendly silly." She leaned over and thrusted a playful hoof upon his shoulder blade, giggling. "You're awesome to be around too, y'know," he said nervously. "Me? I'm nothing special." "Don't kid yourself! You're a good nurse, a sweet talker and one rockin' body." "Oh, Icetra," she slowly began to blush, placing both of her hooves onto her cheeks. "You can be a real casanova." Icetra couldn't help but release a hearty laugh at the compliment. "I just speak the truth. That's my secret." "You should keep sticking to it." While she said this Icetra was already guzzling down the glass of water placed near him. Cautiously planting the glass back on the table, he flashed a smile of serenity directed to the creamy mare. "Maybe once I'm recovered we should exercise together." "Not a bad idea, Icey," she said, her blushing face visibly intensifying. "Oh, I like that nickname." "Good, 'cause I'm sticking with it," she said in a singsong voice. Icetra chuckled, winking at her while flashing those canines of his. This time it didn't frighten Ember, but it did increase the intensity of her blush. Icetra didn't know it was even possible to blush that far, but it sure was a cute look for her. "Where do you wanna go next?" he asked Ember. "How about the royal garden?" "Oooh...how romantic," he said as he leaned against the table, "are you trying to seduce me?" Ember giggled profusely, smashing her hooves against her cheeks, looking heavily bashful. "N-No! I-I-I just want to, you know, g-g to a beautiful place with a f-friend!" "Oh? So you consider me a friend?" Despite the situation he was calm and smiling, reveling from the embarrassed pony. "That didn't take long." "To be honest, I...I already considered you a friend when we met. The way you convinced me made me feel bad, as I should have realized that anyone Celestia trusts can't be evil or monstrous." Her blushing began to wane away, taking a more serious stance this time. "So this was my way of saying sorry." "Well I had a lovely time. I believe your attempt succeeded swimmingly," he said loudly and excitedly. Icetra was acting quite animated after that little speech of her's, happy that she already considered him a friend. That was two down! But it wasn't enough. Oh no, it wasn't far enough. He wouldn't rest until he had an army of friends that can topple down an empire! "But you know, I already forgiven you." "W-What?" "Fear is natural against the face of the unknown. My appearance is something that has never been seen in Equestria, I assume, and that shook the peaceful stability of this land. I've been lucky to have met with two opened minded individuals, but it'll be a long path to true acceptance." "Why – Why must you say things like that? You're so...positive!" Icetra merely shrugged, continuing his smiling and peaceful visage. "As I recall, you are the one that enjoys some positivity." "I – I do. But you practically ooze it. So much has happened to you and yet you continue to still think like this. Many of our patients that used to have amnesia fell into a pit of despair, not act like it's all sunshine and rainbows! But you're – you're different." "Does that not satisfy you?" "Of course not! But as a nurse, I must ask again. How can you manage while your mind is a complete mess?" Icetra couldn't help but release a deep sigh, sliding his left opened hand upon his face, planting it right on his cheek. "Trust me, it is hard. But what can you do? If I fall into depression because of this, I'll never get better. It's best to have a positive outlook on life despite the danger presented. If you lose an arm, you keep fighting. If you lose all of them, you use your legs. Even if you're legs are gone there's always your teeth. Basically, keep trekkin' on and live life to its fullest, even if life is keeping you from enjoying it." Ember was quiet for a moment. Then it extended to something much more longer. She kept her eyes closed, rubbing one of her temples as she fought her own thoughts. Icetra was about to say something until she raised her head to face him right and clear. A beaming smile was presented on her face, shooting it straight to Icetra's vision. "You're really – really something, you know that?" Icetra didn't say anything at first, but he did turn his wheelchair around so that he could face the door's entrance. Beginning to wheel himself he looked back toward the confused mare and flashed the biggest, more profusely made smile he could muster. "Let's go to the gardens, Ember. I'm looking forward to it." All she did was nod, shifting her form as she left the table and grabbed the handles of the wheelchair. In moments she was pushing the chair, the duo leaving the eatery. But not before throwing away the trash that they almost left behind. Author's Note Sometimes you just gotta have a positive outlook in life. Since surviving from depression and currently battling schizophrenia, I have always believed what Icetra has said. My character is a representation of my own thoughts, so it is natural for mm to say that. Unfortunately I know having a sunny smile can be hard in times of turmoil and destruction. What do you think of Icetra's words? Send me your criticisms and/or opinions! :D
