Mending Shadows
"Well...that could've gone a bit better." Lily muttered, her wings ruffling off the snow on them by the fireplace as she warmed herself and soon as she had appeared in the house.
"It wasn't too bad. Aside from running into that Yeti and nearly getting buried in an avalanche." Tempest Shadow, Lily's marefriend (I know...shocker right?) was getting a pot of water on for tea. It had been several months since Tempest had tried to conquer Equestria at the behest of the Storm King. His false promise to restore her horn guided her ambition...until he had gotten what he needed and was through with her. After his defeat, Tempest remained with Princess Twilight and her friends before deciding to see what Equestria had to offer for herself. A few months into her travels, she came across Lily and the two became close - and Tempest didn't question why Lily was an alicorn. And since neither were into the cliche mushiness that comes with relationships, they kept their feelings casual. In their latest travels, they explored some of the Frozen North, which was surprisingly not all unmanageable terrain. "Besides all that, the Crystal Empire was beautiful. I'm surprised Princess Cadence, after what I've done, didn't outright bar me entering."
Lily flicked her tail and looked at the kitchen before trotting in. The home in question was Lily's home. It was modest enough to suit her tastes: a simple kitchen, a large bedroom (which was the largest room in the house), windows that showed various locations throughout Equestria, and living room which doubled as a den-library since 3/4 walls were filled with books. Lily initially had no door to her home since it was in an alternate space or reality. But upon Tempest coming to live with her, Lily created a door that could be summoned by her wherever they may be and could open up to any destination they desired - as a way to make thing normal.
Lily stood by Tempest, seeing a twinge of sadness behind her brave facade. She wrapped her wing around the smaller mare and stared out a window that overlooked the Luna Bay. "You need to stop beating yourself up about that. You were deceived by the Storm King. And he got what was coming to him," she said in a slight harsh tone, "and you came out a better pony from that experience."
"Even if I did't get the prize I wanted." Tempest looked up at her broken horn and light sparks came from it.
"Horn or no horn, you're still an amazingly powerful pony. Didn't Princess Twilight tell you that herself?"
"She did, but even after all these years, I don't feel complete without it." The kettle started to whistle and Tempest turned off the stove. Lily's horn emitted a violet-blue aura as she grabbed two cups from the shelf. Once they were filled with water, Lily placed a teabag in each - peach for Tempest and Earl Grey for Lily - and they went to sit by the fire. "Wonder if there is even a way to restore it."
"I'm sure Princess Celestia and Princess Luna might know something. Maybe Princess Twilight, as well read as she is, could find something eventually." Lily took a sip of her tea and stared at the fire. "I bet if she does, it might require all four Princesses."
"But you are an alicorn as well. Can't you do something? And I am curious as to how you're an alicorn with more royal status." Tempest pointed out, causing Lily to give a throaty chuckle.
"Well because I am simply the dark desires of my former self, to which I can disguise myself as if we are in public. A simple illusionary spend and other ponies see a unicorn mare while you see me as I am." Lily placed another log on the fire, glancing at the smaller mare (Lily is about as tall as Celestia), her catlike irises practically glistening from the fire's glow.
The two silently sipped their tea. Tempest was thinking about where to go next. She had been to many places on the map: Canterlot (after it was restored), the Crystal Empire, Las Pegasus, Ponyville, Manehatten, Trottingham, and more. And ever since staying with Lily, these places take less time to travel to and are more accessible than before. She had even gone back to her former home for a few days and reconnect with the friends she had before. As they sat by the fire, Tempest started feeling warmer than she should have.
"You put something in my tea...didn't you?" She mumbled, standing to only find her legs were a bit wobbly. Wobbly enough that she simply plopped back down on her rump with a light the on the floor.
"Oh? So it kicked in? I was wondering when it would." Lily's wings ruffled as she stood. "I just want you to feel comfortable as much as possible." She purred, lifting Tempest's chin with her hoof.
Tempest Shadow stared up at Lily and tried looking brave. "What did you put in my tea?" She demanded with a shaky bravado.
"Only a small amount of aphrodisiac to loosen you up. I didn't want to, I honestly had been hoping we could take this slow and work around to it eventually.
