A handful of weeks passed and Rarity was in the final week of her pregnancy as she had carried her baby full term which she was not expecting so since she knew she was to give birth soon her friends planned a baby shower for her, the only problem she had with the baby shower was the rule that kids usually weren't invited to baby showers as Sweetie Belle wanted to be there to see the possible crib.
Rarity debated with her wife Rainbow Dash and her friends debated over letting Sweetie Belle attend as she was related to Rarity herself and not some random kid being baby sat or someone's bratty child, she was well behaved and she even promised Rarity that she would behave at the baby shower.
Rarity talked it over with her friends for an extended period of time and they finally agreed to let Sweetie Belle come as long as she behaved and got stuff for herself which she agreed to. At the baby shower Rarity and her friends talked about the baby and that was when they asked if Rarity wanted them to be at the hospital and that was when Rarity made a surprise announcement.
"I forgot to tell you this girls...I've been very quiet about this because I know this option has its risks but...I decided to do....water birth." Rarity said. That was when her Applejack freaked out.
"Rarity don't you know that water birth is extremely risky! I thought you were going to be smart about this and do the delivery in Ponyville General! Water birthing has caused drownings for Celestia's sake! Do it the traditional way!" Applejack ranted.
"I don't think that's up to you to decide Applejack, she's the one carrying the baby she can decide how she wants to deliver it. I hate it when people are ignorant about this subject, water birthing provides more oxygenation for the uterine muscles and its no less risky to the baby than weed is risky for patients. Plus water birthing lowers anxiety. As long as they get the child out of the water and clear its airways it's fine." Twilight stated as she took Rarity's side on the issue. Rainbow Dash spoke up.
"I stand with Rarity on this since I'm her wife, you don't have the right to criticize her on how she delivers our baby if you have a problem with the way we are going to deliver the baby then you have no right to be here and you must leave right now if you keep it up! Rainbow Dash ranted. Applejack became quiet after Rainbow Dash told her that.
There was an awkward silence that passed by them but Applejack spoke up.
"Your right...I shouldn't have criticized you two, I'm really sorry Rarity that wasn't cool of me and I apologize if I crossed the line." Applejack said. Rarity shrugged.
"Apology accepted, I'm not mad and I understand your concern, I know that this must be making Rainbow Dash mad because I didn't tell her before hand until now but I was scared to tell her." She said as she looked at Rainbow Dash shook her head no.
"I'm not mad, a little discussion about your choice would have been nice but I can now realize that you were afraid to bring it up so I don't mind, if you told me this before though I would have gotten a birthing pool. I'll get one tomorrow." Rainbow Dash said.
"Thank you. I appreciate that." Rarity said. Sweetie Belle spoke up and they all turned their heads to look at her.
"I thought we were going to the hospital if your water broke...."Sweetie Belle said. Rarity shrugged.
"I'm sorry. I forgot that I didn't tell you. No I'll deliver at home. I've taken medical classes on this subject. All's I need is a my family and you girls if you want to be there of coarse but if it happens suddenly and I'm unprepared I'll deliver the baby myself." Rarity said.
"Are you sure you can deliver the baby at home? Isn't that risky? What if something goes wrong?" Sweetie Belle asked, Rarity smiled.
"Sweetie Belle what did we just talk about a few seconds ago? I can handle this, you have to trust me on this okay. If you want you can call for a doctor if any complications arise then I'll call one but Rainbow Dash and you will be there I don't really think anything bad is going to happen." Rarity said with confidence. Rainbow Dash shrugged.
"I have to agree with Rarity here, the fetus has been reported as healthy by her doctors and I'm pretty sure we both can handle it as a family..." Rainbow Dash said. Sweetie Belle finally nodded as she trusted her sister in what she was doing. Rarity looked at Twilight.
"What's wrong?" Twilight asked.
"Maybe it would be best if you are there with me. Please Twilight? You have extensive medical knowledge on pregnancy. Would you assist us if you need to?" Rarity asked. Rarity hoped that Twilight wouldn't be annoyed by dropping her own duties just to help her but Twilight surprised her by putting her hand on her shoulder.
"Sure! I'll assist you. That's most I can do for you friend just call me if your water breaks. I'm only a a few minutes away and if I'm doing something I'll drop everything that I'm doing just to help you, Spike can take care of the library." Twilight suggested.
"Thanks I would appreciate that. Now since that's over with let's get to the presents if that's alright with everybody." Rarity suggested. They all nodded with anticipation, Applejack gave her a huge box to unwrap. Rarity smiled as she raised an eyebrow.
"Open it up Sugarcube. I'm so proud of myself for doing this for you, I saved my money up just to buy this for you!" Applejack stated, Rarity opened it and saw that it was a disassembled crib that had to be assembled of coarse.
"Well?!" Applejack asked, Rarity hugged her and said thanks repeatedly, she let go and looked it over.
"You didn't have to do that darling I was going to buy one myself but I truly appreciate this, thank you I'm glad you got it for me sooner than I was going to buy one myself. Thanks." Rarity told her. Applejack tipped her hat and Twilight grinned as she handed her an envelope. Rarity smiled as she looked at her with a skeptic look. Rarity opened it up and saw a check for ten thousand dollars signed to her.
"Wait what?! Where did you get this type of money!? Did you rob a bank!? What did you do exactly." Rarity asked her. Twilight chuckled.
"I won in a game of poker I'm giving you half of my money, it was fairly easy, the person I was playing against was two sticks short of a bundle, I had a royal flush and to be honest it was the shortest poker game I ever played." Twilight said as she shrugged. Rarity laughed.
"Thank you Twilight! Now I have enough money for a years worth of baby supplies and if I run out I have money made from my dresses and I can make more money so thanks. And I can save some of this money for store bought formula because I'm going to breastfeed my baby the first few weeks." Rarity stated. Twilight smiled as she nodded her head.
Pinkie Pie giggled as she shook the present in her hands excitedly, Rarity smiled as Pinkie Pie gave her the present, she opened it up and found that Pinkie Pie had bought a dozen baby bottles. Rarity smiled as she hugged Pinkie Pie.
"Now you don't have to buy any after you give birth, if you lose one or if one is dirty you have a spare." Pinkie Pie exclaimed.
"Thanks Pinkie your awesome." Rarity said. Pinkie Pie giggled.
"Nah I'm just doing something for the mother to be." Pinkie Pie giggled. Rarity smiled and put them aside for now. Fluttershy handed her a gift, Rarity didn't think that Fluttershy was going to get her something.
"I couldn't afford much....and I didn't want to come empty handed as I wanted to give you something that will help you at least for a bit so..." Fluttershy said as she trailed off, Rarity smiled at her friend and ripped the package open to reveal a guide book on medical care for babies and a guide book for parenting as well.
"Fluttershy it's a great gift, I truly appreciate you trying to help me. Thank you!" Rarity said. Rarity hugged Fluttershy and she noticed that those were all the gifts, she put the gifts away in the appropriate spots and assembled the crib with Applejack's help, they set up a room for the baby as well.
Once they got everything set up for Rarity, they bought a birthing pool for her so they can be prepared to deliver the baby when her water broke. Rarity hung out with her friends for a bit more as they talked to Sweetie Belle and eachother and then they all left, Rarity decided to get Twilight stay over at her place so they could be prepared which Twilight agreed with.
She was prepared for the arrival of her baby she was nervous but she knew that Rainbow Dash, her sister and Twilight would comfort and help her through the birth process.
