Starlight raised her hand above the door, poised to knock.
“Oooh come on knock already!” Pinkie said with excitement.
Starlight let out a sigh, her breath condensing in the cool fall air. “Pinkie, this is your family’s house. Why can’t you knock?”
“Ooh come on Starlight! All of our other friends have already met my family! You’re the only one who hasn’t yet! Please would you knock?” Pinkie clasped her gloved hands together, and gave her best puppy dog eyes.
Starlight giggled. “Alright, Pinkie, alright.”
Starlight knocked on the door. After waiting a few seconds she knocked again, after a few more seconds she moved her hand to the door bell. At that moment the door opened slightly. A gray skinned girl stared out at them.
“Oh, hi, Pinkie,” Maud said.
“Oh, Maud, I-” Starlight started to say, Pinkie pushed her inside the house past Maud, and into the living room. The other Pie sisters sat on the couch, with Mr and Mrs Pie sitting in their own respective chairs.
“Oooh Starlight, you already met Maud! Let me introduce you to my other sisters!” Pinkie disappeared from behind and Starlight and reappeared behind Marble and Limestone, who were sitting on the couch. Marble dropped the book she was reading, Limestone rolled her eyes and grumbled.
“Starlight this is Limestone!” Pinkie said, shaking Limestone, and wrapping her arms around her older sister. Starlight moved towards her, holding out her hand, which Limestone reluctantly shook.
“Starlight meet Marble!” Pinkie yelled as she wrapped her arms around her sister from behind. Marble blushed, her cheeks becoming very red as her sister hugged her. “Marble is my younger sister, Limestone is my older sister! Ahhh!”
Starlight reached her hand out towards Marble, the other girl looked away shyly, her face still blushing. Reluctantly she held out her hand, which Starlight gently took hold of, smiling at the girl all the while, which just made Marble blush even harder.
Pinkie still had her arms wrapped around Marble, which made it difficult for the younger girl too look up, but she did manage to make eye contact with Starlight, who smiled in return. Marble blushed, the left side of her face was obscured by her hair. Pinkie giggled as she let go of her sister, Starlight and Marble shook hands for just a little bit longer, before releasing their grip on each others hands.
“Oooh, Starlight, this is mom, this dad!” Pinkie ushered Starlight past her sisters, Maud stood off to the side watching her excited younger sister. Mr.Pie grunted as he shook Starlight’s hand, and Mrs.Pie simply smiled at the purple skinned girl.
After that Pinkie ushered Starlight into a seat directly across from Marble, which made the other girl blush once again. Starlight smiled at this, she whispered into Pinkie’s ear, “Your younger sister is pretty shy huh?”
Pinkie smiled. “Yeah, but she’s really sweet. I think you might actually get along with her. You already like Maud, and Marble talks even less than her! Why don’t you try talking to her? She really doesn’t have that many friends, and I think she likes you.”
“Well okay. . .” Starlight blushed.
Mr and Mrs Pie went to make dinner, with Pinkie and Limestone in tow. Maud sat at one end of the couch, examining one of her rocks. Marble had a small smile on her face as she continued to read her book. Starlight drummed her fingers on the side of her chair.
“Um, so Maud, what are you looking at?” Starlight asked.
Marble almost dropped her book, a blush spread across her face as she saw Starlight sitting across from her. Starlight smiled in response.
Maud looked up. “A rock.”
“Well, uh, yeah, I know that. . .”
Maud continued to examine her rock. Starlight looked around the room briefly, before settling her eyes on Marble. Marble continued to read her book, she had pulled her legs up to her chest, and did her best to hide her face with her book.
Starlight cleared her throat. “So, Marble, what book are you reading?”
Marble shrank behind her book, her cheeks becoming even redder than before. She mumbled something.
“What was that?” Starlight asked.
“She said she’s reading IT.” Maud briefly looked up from her rock too answer, before returning her attention too her examination.
“Oh, really? Do you like horror?” Starlight smiled.
Marble mumbled something again, louder this time, but still not loud enough for Starlight to hear.
“She said it depends on the book,” Maud said.
“Oh, I understand that. Huh, I actually like reading books as well. Well, I guess I might read some more technical science books, and history books. . .Eh heh. . .” Starlight said.
“I like those books as well, though I guess I don’t understand the information sometimes. . .” Marble mumbled, barely above a whisper, Starlight strained her ears too her the other girl.
“Uh hey, I actually heard you that time. And that’s fine if you don’t understand them. Most of those books are pretty technical anyways. Actually one book you might want to check out is A Short History of Nearly Everythingby Bill Bryson. And besides, you’ll probably understand it better than Pinkie.” Starlight chuckled at the last part. Marble giggled lightly as well, Maud raised an eyebrow at Starlight.
“Uh well, I didn’t mean it meanly. . .” Starlight said, blushing under Maud’s gaze.
“Hmmmm,” Maud said as she turned back to her rock.
“Thank you, I’ll check that book out.” Marble let a small smile cross her lips.
Starlight smiled in response. “No problem. Are you enjoying that book?”
“So far yes. I’m not very far into it though, only forty pages in, but I’m still really enjoying it so far.” Marble made eye contact with Starlight, which caused her to turn away, a blush spreading across her cheeks.
“You’re pretty shy huh? My other friend Fluttershy is pretty shy as well. She even has it in her name,” Starlight said. Marble giggled at the last part.
“Marble,” Starlight continued, “It’s okay if you’re shy. But, if it’s okay with you, I’d still like to talk with you.”
Marble blushed even harder, but a small smile slipped across her lips. “I’d like that.”
“Great.” Starlight smiled.
Maud looked up from her rock briefly, she stared at the smile that spread across her younger sister's lips, and the returning smile across Starlight's lips. Turning back to her rock, she smiled briefly, before she continued to examine it.
Starlight shivered as the cold wind blew snow past her. It was late in the afternoon and Pinkie hadn't picked her up. She tried calling her pink haired friend to see where she was, only to find that her cell phone battery had died some time ago.
Looking at a street sign she was able to get her bearings, she wasn't far from Pinkie’s house. She hadn’t wanted to be picked up anyways, as she found it a bit embarrassing that as a twenty one year old woman she still had to be picked up by her friends.
Trudging Through the foot thick snow she made her way too Pinkie’s house. It was cold out, even with her winter coat on and pants Starlight had trouble staying warm. The loose gloves she wore were barely enough to warm her hands.
She couldn’t see that far in front of her in the on coming flurry of snow, she cold flakes pressed against the exposed skin of her face, stinging her. After some more walking she banged her knee against one of the steps on Pinkie’s front porch.
Only a few weeks had passed since the last time she visited. And only a few more weeks would pass until Pinkie had invited her over for Christmas dinner. Starlight made her way up the steps, truding through the thick layer of snow.
She reached a shaky hand out too the door bell, pressing the button, and immediately pulled her hand back to her chest. Shortly afterwards, Marble came to open the door. She blushed as she let the purple haired girl inside, and then locked the door.
“Th-thank you, Marble,” Starlight mumbled.
“You’re welcome. I’ll go make some hot chocolate for you,” Marble said as she walked into the kitchen. Starlight took off her cold wet clothes, letting them drop into a pile near the front door, she kicked off her boots and then laid down on the couch, still shivering. After that Marble brought Starlight some hot cocoa, and wrapped a blanket around her.
“We-were your family?” Starlight asked.
“Mom, dad, and Limestone went to get more food. Pinkie went out with her boyfriend, Fallout. And Maud left last week to go back to college,” Marble replied. Starlight still felt odd talking too the younger girl, Marble was eighteen but she was still just a senior in high school.
“Oh okay,” Starlight managed to get out.
Marble knelt down next to Starlight, getting more blankets occasionally and hot chocolate when Starlight asked for it. After a while Starlight stopped shivering and she began to warm up.
“Thank you.” Starlight's smiled.
“Of course.” Marble blushed. Both girls had stayed in contact with each other after their encounter a few weeks prior.
Marble got up too leave, Starlight grabbed her wrist. “Marble, do you think you could stay with me?”
Marble blushed, but turned back too Starlight. “Of course. Would you like me to read to you?”
Starlight smiled, the lack of a TV in the house hadn’t surprised her the last time she visited. “Yeah, that sounds nice.”
Marble went and got her book, A history of nearly everything by Bill Bryson, and came back too Starlight. She leaned her back against the couch cushion, positions herself too right of Starlight's head on the couch, so that Starlight could still see the pages, and so that Marble would still look back at the other girl.
Marble started reading the book too the other girl. She was quiet, and it was hard for Starlight to hear her on some parts. But she didn’t interrupt, and she didn’t complain. She just smiled as the other girl continued to read.
Marble felt her heart thumping in her chest the entire time she was reading the book. She blushed when Starlight placed rubbed her hand along her shoulder. After awhile she placed a bookmark inside her book, said she was going to get mork hot cocoa, and went to the kitchen.
She looked at herself in the reflection of one of the kitchen windows, the torrent of snow still falling outside. She bit her lower lip before heading back out too the other girl.
She knelt down once again in front of Starlight. “Starlight, I, I, I don't know, how, to-tell y-you this-”
Starlight moved her lips to meet the other girls. Marble’s eyes went wide as Starlight leaned further into the kiss. Then she closed them, letting Starlight take hold of her, pressing their lips even closer together. Marble’s heart thumped loudly in her chest as she continued to kiss the other girl.
Starlight pulled away, a small blush along her cheeks. Marble stared at Starlight, her jaw agape. Her heart pounded in her chest, her cheeks completely red.
Starlight frowned and looked away. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have done that. . .”
Marble did her best to regain her composure. “I, I wasn’t sure if you felt the same way. I’ve never told another girl how I felt before. I just felt really comfortable around you, and I thought ath even if you didn’t feel the same way, it’d be okay. . .”
Starlight smiled. “You’re a very sweet girl. I didn’t want to say anything, I didn’t want to push you away or force you into a relationship. But, do you want to start dating now?”
Marble giggled. “I guess that makes you my first girlfriend?”
“That sounds nice,” Starlight said, leaning in for another kiss. This time Marble made contact with her lips. Both girls leaned into each other, not noticing when the front door clicked open.
“Ooooh you two are so cute!” Pinkie cooed as she walked in on her younger sister. Marble pulled away from Starlight, obscuring her face with her hair as she blushed furiously
Starlight wrapped her arms around the other girl, pulling her in close.
Fallout walked into the room. “Hey, Pinkie, I was-” He saw the two girls snuggling. “Giggity giggity.”
Starlight giggled. “Hey, that’s my girlfriend you’re talking to!”
Pinkie clapped her hands together as she ran over to the two girls, wrapping her arm around Starlight and Marble. “Oooh you two are going to make the best couple!”
Marble looked at Starlight, a small smile spreading across her lips. Starlight smiled in response, the cold winter winds continued their torrent of flurrying snow. Marble and Starlight kissed one last time, Pinkie smiled as she saw her younger sister blush. This was her first girlfriend after all.
