Luna stood atop Canterlot, on the balcony of one of its highest towers. As she focused her energies on the rising moon, night fell. The light of the stars began to peek through the void of the sky, and darkness completely overtook the day. Far below her perch, all of Equestria's ponies began to retire from their daily activities. She watched as the lights of the homes below began to go out, one by one. Luna smiled grimly. Even though she joyfully embraced her new life of ruling over Equestria alongside her beloved sister, she still felt shards of neglect pierce her heart when she raised the moon. Her ponies were still ignorant of the night's beauty, even after a millennia of her isolation at her sister's hoof. At this, Luna felt the embers of hate burn within her heart as she recalled her sister's decision to banish her to the moon.
She had suffered a thousand years of complete loneliness. Nopony was there for her. Nopony in Equestria had tried to save her from her silent torture. They had seen her tale as a mere story, a story to use during Nightmare Night or the bedtimes of disobedient foals. They could never hope to understand what she went through.
It made Luna so sick. So tired of it all. She sometimes wondered how she managed to put aside her hate in favor of making amends with her sister. The sister who had turned her back on her.
Luna heard the sound of hooves behind her. She knew the noise well, as she always heard those hooves behind her, no matter where she went. They belonged to a strong stallion that followed her tirelessly, and would do so even if it meant walking to the ends of the earth. At least for the time being, her melancholia would be gone.
She turned around, an expectant smile on her face. She wasn't disappointed. It was him. The lowly guard who somehow made all of her sadness go away. His silver armor gleamed in the moonlight, just like the gray of his coat. The steel that adorned him was sturdy and strong, just like every stallion who wore it. Except the stallion that stood before Luna right now had feelings. Deep, sympathetic feelings that cradled Luna in the times of her greatest distress. She opened up to him far more than she had with anypony else in her ancient life, her older sister being no exception.
Celestia didn't know what they had, but she didn't have to. Unlike her, he had always been there for Luna in the few years that she knew him. He was always there to comfort her. He made her feel as though she were no longer alone in this world.
That was how he captured Luna's heart.
"My love..." Luna whispered. "Thou hast finally arrived." She always felt like a schoolfilly whenever she greeted him. It was a very nice change of pace.
"Just like I said I would, Your Majesty," he replied. Luna frowned at him. "Er, I mean, Luna."
She giggled. He was a talkative soldier, which had been the cause of quite a few reprimands from his superiors in the past. Guards were supposed to be strictly disciplined and unwaveringly stoic. He was the polar opposite. Luna definitely didn't mind, however.
She trotted over to him, and planted a kiss on his lips as they embraced. His somewhat smaller size presented no difficulty. It always felt as if electricity was coursing through her body whenever her lips made contact with his. She loved the sensation, utterly. They fell on to her bed, cuddling.
They broke their kiss. Luna always wondered what Celestia would do if she found out about these secret meetings. She had a feeling that it wouldn't sit well with her, but that made it all the more thrilling. A blush covered Luna's cheeks. The kisses made her feel fulfilled. But something wasn't right. She could tell. Her stallion's face had turned to a mask of sadness. His sea-green eyes were clouded with worry.
"...My love, art thou well?" she asked, concerned. She felt a distinct feeling of trepidation.
"Luna, there's... well..." he was visibly uneasy.
"Tell me."
"...You know of Princess Celestia's plans to send ambassadors overseas, right? To establish trading agreements with the other nations?"
Luna's heart skipped a beat. She knew this was going to be bad news.
"Yes. What of them?" she asked, trying to sound calm.
"I-I've been chosen to accompany them, just like every other pony in my legion. We're leaving Equestria in a week," his expression grew even gloomier. "I'll be leaving with the others for the harbor tomorrow morning."
In that instant, Luna's world shattered. Once again, her sister's actions lead to her isolation. She found it completely impossible to accept.
"...No," she whispered.
"I'm sorry," he answered, his face turning slightly pale. "And I've heard that we... won't be back for years, depending on how well negotiations go."
Luna felt her anger surge within her. Celestia seemed to have a knack for causing her misery. She still couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her love was being taken away from her.
"So..." she began, tears beginning to well up in her eyes. "So I shall... never see thou again?"
His expression lightened up a bit, though not by much. "Not true. Princess Celestia made it clear to us that we would return. It could just be..." his face darkened. "...any number of years."
Luna began to cry, her tears flowing freely. Her beloved stallion began to stroke her mane as he held her tight. He was used to the sound of her sobs. In fact, he was the one who stopped the crying most of the time, but this he could not help. His heart was just as heavy as Luna's. They, two lovers, were about to be separated for who knows how long. It wasn't fair, but it couldn't be helped. Celestia's authority far surpassed Luna's.
"What if we were to run away, together?" Luna asked, frantically. She was hoping she would hear him agree, but he shook his head, smiling sadly.
She was nearing hysterics. "What? Why not?"
"You're royalty, Luna, and an alicorn to boot. Everypony everywhere would know who you are. And I know you don't think this, but Princess Celestia loves you. She truly does. We wouldn't make it if she decided to chase us down. Plus, you've got your duty to mind."
Luna could feel her heart breaking.
"T-Then... what if thou resigneth? Or what if I do?"
"Luna, those aren't even viable options. Guards serve for life, remember? And Princess Celestia would never allow you to leave the palace."
Luna's heart broke. He was completely right. She couldn't think of any way out.
"Then what do we do?" she asked quietly, trails of tears staining her face.
"...I don't know," he replied, solemnly.
Luna's fury and depression were rising. None of this was fair. She cursed her status, and cursed her sister. She always knew that all of her happiness would end one day, even though it would only be a temporary end. A separation that would be years. She couldn't wait years.
The future she had hoped for was in ruins. All because of politics.
But perhaps she could turn the future into the present?
"Give me a foal."
His eyebrows shot up his forehead. "W-What?"
"Give me a foal. Give me a child to remember thou by. A strong Earth pony, just like its father."
She could tell that he was dumbstruck. "But..."
"Please," she whispered. "Please. I... I wish to give birth to a life, so that it may experience this world. I wish to help it through its hardships, and praise its successes..." she kissed him. "And... I want it to be ours. Not just mine. One we may raise... " her voice broke. "...together."
Luna watched his face closely. His brow was furrowed, and he was obviously considering it. She could feel her heart beating away in her chest. They both knew they wanted this future. It would be delayed, but if he said yes, it would only be a matter of time...
He spoke, uncertainty evident in his voice. "But I'm just a guard. You're a Princess. They're going to know that you're pregnant. They're going to ask questions, and then what? It would be a huge scandal."
"If Celestia loves me, she will protect me. She will have to understand. I no longer care about anything other than what we have," she placed a hoof on his cheek, caressing it. "My love, please..."
He took a deep breath and looked away. Luna knew that there would be many unforeseen consequences if she were to be made pregnant by this stallion, but she didn't care. She knew that he didn't either, even though this was a rather hasty decision.
"...Okay," he said finally, the corners of his mouth going upwards. "We'll have ourselves a foal."
Luna gave a small, girlish squeal and kissed him, planting her hooves on his armored chest as she suddenly straddled him. Even though she was, chronologically, a very old mare, she had never experienced sex before. She was also too shy to discuss it with anypony, even her sister. But she would try her best tonight. She unclasped his armor and levitated it from his body, then tossed the pieces aside. She took in the sight of his muscular, well-groomed form. She never saw him without his armor, but she sure loved the view.
"You're excited, aren't you?" he asked, a surprised edge in his voice. He hadn't expected her to be so spontaneous.
"Of course I am," she laughed. Her tone grew somber. "This will be our last night together... For a few years at least..."
Her lover's grim smile returned, though he spoke with confidence. "Then let's make this a night to remember."
Luna gasped as he planted a kiss of his own on her lips. Her blush grew heavier when she felt his tongue probe past her teeth and meet her own tongue. Their tongues began to twist around each other as they switched positions, him going topside. Luna almost didn't notice the rigid length that poked into her belly. She eyed it eagerly, but was somewhat unnerved by the size. It was larger than she expected.
"...That... That is going to be inside of me?" she asked, in a hushed voice. Her partner sensed her fear, easily.
"We don't have to do this if you don't want to, Luna."
"No no, I want this. I've just never seen one before. It's really quite... large."
She saw his face turn flushed. "Erm," he said uneasily. "Thanks..."
"Heh heh heh," Luna chuckled at his embarrassment. "But could thou please get off? I wish to move."
He obliged, and watched her roll over, back onto her stomach. He grew silent when she lifted her tail, flashing her marehood at him. He could tell that she was quite ready.
Luna looked over at him and giggled at the stunned look at his face. "Thou look as if thou hast seen the Heavens." She was rather surprised at her own boldness. If only Celestia could see her now!
"I've seen something far more beautiful," he replied, as he drew near Luna. They were both getting excited by this raunchy talk, as archaic as it was. Luna moaned softly as he mounted her, his member positioned right in front of her virgin entrance. She could feel the flared tip.
"Please be gentle..." she begged. She was about to lose her virginity, a part of her which she had dutifully maintained along with her sister. "I've never... ever been with a stallion before."
"And I've never been with a mare before," she heard him say. She smiled, relieved. She had been wanting to ask him, but did not want to sound like a busybody. He continued. "Are you ready?"
"Yes, yes," she breathed, her arousal overtaking her. "Make love to me."
They both groaned as he entered her. Luna bit her lower lip and winced as she felt him penetrate her barrier. She would be lying if she said it wasn't painful.
He sensed her discomfort. "Are you alright? Should we stop?"
His voice soothed her. "No, the pain is quickly leaving. Go on. Do not worry."
She heard him grunt as he resumed pushing his member into her. She felt him inside, between her hind legs. It was a warm, and rather foreign sensation, but it was definitely welcome. He went on to push further unto her, until he reached the hilt. By now, both were beginning to experience pure bliss. Luna was happy now. She was engaging in this sacred act with her true love, and he was certainly enjoying it as well.
"C-Can I... thrust now?" he asked, panting.
"Of course. Oh, do not tarry..." she said back, sounding breathless.
He pulled back until only his remained inside her, then gently pushed himself within her again. The action sent electric sensations throughout Luna's body. He repeated his thrust, earning him another moan from the alicorn. But she was beginning to grow hungry for him, and after a few more thrusts, she told him.
"Mmm... Go faster," she ordered.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, now do it!" she reiterated, desire creeping into her voice.
With that, he began to pump himself into her, steadily. His hips slapped against hers and the sound echoed throughout the room. Both of the lovers were moaning and gasping loudly now. Luna struggled to maintain her senses, but it was a losing battle. Her mind turned hazy, with both lust and love. The minutes felt like hours, and they flew by quickly as her stallion made love to her. Luna felt him poke his muzzle into her starry blue mane. He breathed in her divine scent, desperate to imprint every part of his princess into his mind. Sweat covered both coats, one silvery-gray, the other midnight blue.
After what felt like an eternity, Luna felt the pressure between her legs grow. She was taking deep, rapid breaths now. She was almost finished. He began to speak, and his words were clear, dazed as she was.
"I'm close. Really close."
Luna braced herself. Her dazed look fell away and her eyes sparkled with anticipation. She was nearing the finish as well. She had been waiting for this. "I-Inside, mmf! Inside!" she gasped.
She felt him quicken his pace as the climax drew close. He had been working her tirelessly up until now, and Luna wanted him to let his burdens loose. She grew silent, wanting to savor the feel of his flesh within hers in the last moments, while he began to grunt even louder, his short black mane beaded with sweat, his eyes shut tight in intense focus. He yelled as he finally came.
Luna yelped as she felt his erection swell, then release warm spurts of his essence inside her. The sudden stimulation pushed her over the edge. She could almost feel her muscles clench around his member in these waning moments of their union, and her fluids flowed from where they joined. He held her tight as they climaxed together, filling her full of his seed, while she screamed his name.
Gradually, the moment passed. They never wanted it to end, because they knew that they would have to part soon. He remained mounted upon her, slowly going soft within her folds. Both Luna's heart and her insides felt full. She giggled tiredly as he playfully nibbled on her ear. The smell of sweat and other fluids permeated the room.
Quietly, he withdrew from her. She turned, and pecked him on the lips. They silently lay there, together. The silent world below did not matter to either of them. Only this moment did. They caressed each other. They wanted to drift off to sleep together, in each other's hooves. But they couldn't. Their commitments were in the way. The night was darkening.
"...I have to go now. I need to be at my post," he reminded, sadness evident in his voice. Luna stiffened. Everything had been so perfect. She had briefly forgotten all of their problems.
She still felt his body against hers. It kept her gloom bottled up. Then, she felt him reluctantly tear himself away. She felt cold, suddenly.
"...Goodbye..." she whispered.
He turned to her, his helmet back on his head. She gazed into his beautiful green eyes. She saw tears in them. He saw tears in hers. She closed her eyes.
"...G-Goodbye, m-my love..." her voice cracked, just like her heart. Her slender frame quivered.
She felt him embrace her again, and lay another kiss on her lips. He was silent at first, seemingly considering what to say. He finally whispered in her ear.
"Will you be here when I return?"
She hugged him back. "Of course," she choked. "Always."
She saw him smile, though pain was etched upon his face. She continued.
"A-Always, and forever."
He kissed her again. She lost herself in this one, as she knew it would be their last. He moved away from her, still looking into her eyes.
She silently watched as he redressed, then left the room without another word.
Luna sobbed into her sheets as she heard the door close. She was alone once again. It was only her, and her moon now. She wept as she lamented. She felt as though the world was opposed to her once more.
Her crying ceased as she remembered something blatantly obvious. She looked down, at her currently firm and fit abdomen. She gently stroked it with her hoof. She calmed. Their last moments together replayed in her mind. Her sad frown disappeared, replaced by a smile.
Her melodious laugh echoed throughout the night. The moon was never this radiant.
She wasn't alone. Part of him was still here.
Forming within her.
