Chapter the first: Suddenly foal.
Act 1: Discovery
I sat in my living room, undisguised. No point in it really. My home was locked tight and my walls were warded against scrying spells.
I take a look around the I’m sitting in. Same old drapes, same old couch, same old walls, and the same old fireplace that once captivated my wife’s eyes.
She was beautiful, her coat was a royal blue, her hair a wondrous silver, a long horn protruded from her head and would glimmer as she lifted her teacup. I watch her eyes glisten in the firelight, two amber orbs glowing fiery in the darkness. Her supple lips touch her cup as she takes a sip and I smell the brew she made. Lavender.
I look away to the wall of our pictures and find it-empty... I look back to the fireplace and I see nothing but cold bricks and a mantle, a mantle with an urn sitting delicately on top.
I sigh and look away, I could never start a fire without her. She loved to watch me as I fired off the green sparks from my horn to give us warmth.
As I look away I notice something that was never in our... My house. A quivering mess of fur in the corner, twin pools of emerald staring into my red, compound looking eyes.
It was small, a filly? How long has she been here? How did she get in here?!
I jump up and in a flash of green fire, I’m in my disguise but the damage has been done. The quivering mess is still, dead or fainted. I walk up and look at her, as it clearly was female. A pure black coat with small wings protruding from her sides. her mane just as jet black as her fur.
I make a survey of my house, trying to find out how she got in. Once I completed a full circuit of the house I double check. Nothing was open, no holes, no magic. This filly just seemed to have appeared out of thin air.
I pick her up and set her on my couch, pulling a blanket over her I think about what I need to do with her. Obviously I need to talk to the authorities about this but after that... I suppose I’ll get to that tomorrow. I am simply too tired tonight after the slight scare she gave me.
Act 2: The first dawn
I awoke the next morning, refreshed and ready to start the day. I knew what would be happening today and while I dreaded it, I knew she had to be taken care of.
I walk into the living room to check on my guest and find her sitting up, quivering on her hooves and stumbling everywhere, mumbling and almost shouting incoherent gibberish.
I move over to her and pick her up in my magic, which I soon find to be a mistake as she freezes for a few seconds and starts struggling and screeching with gibberish.
I drop her and cover my ears with my hooves, all I can hear is ringing for a moment as silence reigns in the room. I look over to her, fearing I dropped her too hard and hurt her but she simply stares at my horn, mouth slightly agape.
I look at her confused before picking her up in my magic again, hoping that her surprise will allow me to place her on my back. She struggles a little bit as I set her on my back, it seems she has calmed down enough and is simply laying on my back. I look back at her to see her still... Dazed I suppose.
I make my way to my door, not bothering with breakfast since eating out would probably be the far better choice in this matter, to see if I can run into her parents are guardians out and about.
I unlock the door and make my way out, locking back up before I move down the quaint, cobbled street.
It took about an hour to make my way to the town hall, not really knowing where else to ask about a missing foal speaking gibberish.
As I enter, the front desk clerk, a lovely mare even in my eyes, greets me. I move up to the desk and ask my question and she points me to an office near the back of the establishment. Seems like missing foals isn't as common as one would think in a society where foals can run amuck where'er they please.
I enter the room and an old, crotchety looking stallion is waiting for me. White coat, white mane, piercing red eyes. You don't see many albino ponies about, especially ones this old as most succumb to the sun and die of cancer.
I set the foal down on a chair and sit down in the one next to it. The stallion in front of us glares at us both for a moment and before he can speak, the foal screeches at him and tries to lunge at him.
The stallion catches the foal in his magic and sets her down on the chair, keeping her in place with his blood red magic.
"Fiesty one, isn't she" He says, without any inflection or emotion in his voice. In fact I couldn't even sense any emotion coming from him. Must be hard working with heartbroken foals I suppose, one learns to not get attached.
"Yes" I reply "And all she's done so far has been suddenly showing up in my house and screaming in either another language or just gibberish" It wasn't any language I knew, and I knew quite a few.
"Well," The stallion starts "I suppose we should start looking to see if she has a family or not, should be fairly simple considering her coat is rather... Unique." After he says that he starts rifling through his desk.
"The fact she's also foreign also helps narrow the search" He mumbles, looking through his filing cabinet "That's strange.." He suddenly states
"What is?" I ask, fearing the worst with how the foal came to be in my possession in the first place.
"It seems she's not even a citizen of Equestria... I can't find anything in my records about her place of origin or even her" The way he said that seems... off to me, but I don't question it right now. Right now I have an unknown filly on my hooves and I don't know what to do with her.
"Well what can we do about her?" I ask, hoping for the best for the lost filly.
"Well we could let the childcare system take care of her, though I know from experience that isn't a very good thing to grow up with" The stallion says, something seems off about him the more he talks, I can't seem to put my finger on it.
"What we can do is sign you as her legal guardian, as you were the one who found her, and the fact she was in your house. I think that would be the best course of action here" The stallion then pulls out a sheet of paper, a contract.
I look at it, thinking hard about it.
I then take the pen, and sign the paper
And let me say a few things, read the fine print, and never make a deal with anyone who goes by the name of an urban legend.
Author's Note
Like I said in the description, not sure if this is going to go anywhere. gave it the opportunity, not sure if I'll take it though.
Comments are VERY helpful, please don't hesitate to rip me a new one if it's really that bad.
