"Wonderful. Hello, everyone, I'm Octavia Genera Crescendo." a brown-grey mare with light purple eyes says. Another mare, a white unicorn with piercing red eyes walks into the frame of the small, expensive camera. A pair of headphones are around her neck, and she holds a guitar the same color as her eyes in one of her hoofs. The other hoof holds a pair of purple sunglasses.
"And I'm Vinyl Scratch, although most of you know me as DJ-P0N3. We wanted to tell you guys how we met and how we became roommates." she says, setting the glasses on the table the camera is sitting on.
"But first, we'd like to clear up some misconceptions many of you have about us. First off, yes, me and Vinyl have known each other for many years." Octavia says, sitting on the couch behind her and twirling a small bow with the words 'Jam On' written on it.
"Nine, in fact. Second, no, we are not related. How would that even work, I'm a unicorn and she's an earth pony." Vinyl says, also sitting on the couch.
"Anyway, third, yes, we are roommates. We've actually lived together for nine years, thanks to our college." Octavia says. She continues spinning the bow, and Vinyl stares at her for a moment.
"How the hay do you do that?" Vinyl asks, trying to follow the pattern. Octavia smiles.
"Practice, baby, practice." she says, rather informally.
"Okay, and lastly, the one thing that pissed us both off to no end. No, we are not lovers." Vinyl says. A disgusted look runs across her face.
"Indeed we are not. I like stallions, so I can't even fathom that kind of relationship with her. Besides, she's my best friend." Octavia says, looking at Vinyl.
"I, on the other hoof, like mares and stallions, and can fathom that kind of relationship. Whatever that means." Vinyl says. She looks at Octavia, and sees the angry look on her face. She quickly adds, "But I still wouldn't date her because she's my best friend."
"Honestly, dear, I can't understand how you can sleep with other mares."
"And I can't understand why you can't get laid." Vinyl retorts.
Octavia opens her mouth to respond, but can't think of anything clever to say. "Touché." she finally says.
Vinyl chuckles. "Seriously, Octy, you're a fine piece of work. If I was a stallion, I'd be honored to fu-" Vinyl tries to say but is stopped by a hoof to the lips.
"Stop. Just... Stop. I don't need that image in my head." Octavia says, a shudder rocking her body.
"If you got laid, you could have good shudders." Vinyl says when Octavia removes her hoof from her mouth.
"Oh, goddamn you. Now I'm picturing you as a stallion..." Octavia says, rubbing her temples.
"And?"
"You're super-fricking hot. Like... Words can't describe how hot you are as a stallion."
"Please stop thinking about it, I don't want to throw away this couch because you started imagining having sex with a male version of me."
"Okay, I'm done. I'll just keep that out of my head... At least until you go to work."
"What?"
"Nothing. Should we tell them our story now?" Octavia asks, knowing the answer already.
"Of course! It all began nine years ago at Equestria Academy. Stupid name, but hey. Anyway, I had already taken my first year of my scholarship in Electronics, Music, Psychology, and Biochemistry. And on the first day of my second year..."
"I walked into my dorm after my classes to find a grey-brown mare sitting in my bean bag chair."
"Hey, who are you?" Vinyl asks, dropping her bags onto her bed.
"Oh, you must be Vinyl! I'm Octavia, I'm your roommate for the school year! I am pleased to make your acquaintance." the smaller mare says, rising from the red bean bag. She extends her hoof. Vinyl looks first at her, then at her hoof. She puts a small bag on her foreleg.
"Can you put this in that desk there?" Vinyl asks, sitting on the bed. She stretches out.
Octavia stands there, dumbfounded, for several seconds. She finally snaps out of it. "No, I can't. You put it in the desk, you rude bitch." she says. She covers her mouth. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be. I've been called worse. And I can't either. You were given two keys, right?"
"Yes, why?"
"One goes to that desk. I lost my key to that desk over the summer, so I can't put it in the desk. So, I'm sorry I acted so rude. Now then, I'm going to relax. Wake me up in two hours."
"Why two?"
"So we can go out to a bar. Need to get to know each other, and a bar would be perfect."
"But..." Octavia tries to say, but Vinyl's snoring interrupts her. "Wow, that was fast." She opens the desk and puts the bag inside. She closes the door and locks the desk back. She sits down on her bed, on the other side of the room, and pulls out her small violin. She plays a gentle lullaby. Vinyl smiles, the music making her dreams much more calming. Octavia continues playing for an hour, then pulls out a book. 'The Hunger Games'. She had bought it several hours before at a small store in the town. She had gotten to the training scenes. She starts reading. Every few paragraphs, she's interrupted by Vinyl's snoring. It sounded somewhat like music, with an odd rhythm. Octavia stopped reading and listened to Vinyl's snoring. "Like a symphony..." she thinks. She listens for the next hour, then goes to wake up Vinyl.
"Yeah?" Vinyl mumbles, her head covered by a pillow.
"Let's go. You said we were going to a bar."
"Yep, and I'm buying." Vinyl says. She gets up and takes off her glasses. Octavia notices her eyes.
"Your eyes are very nice."
"Are you hitting on me?"
Octavia reacts in a panicked way. "No! No, I'm not hitting on you!"
"Shame. You're really pretty." Vinyl responds. She blows a kiss at Octavia and walks out the door.
Octavia looks around, confused. "Oh, sweet lord, I'm rooming with a filly-fooler." she thinks, walking out the door.
