Hunger
Hunger
Hunger
His name is forgotten, all he remembers that he use to serve the third reich. Many people believed that a dead body will decompose within a few weeks, but that's not the case for a this poor soul. He died a few weeks ago, but why isn't his body deteriorating? He doesn't know, all he knows that he is incredibly hungry for something that sickens him terribly. Flesh, human flesh to be exact. He doesn't know why it tastes so good but it does.
The helmet that he wore reflected off the moon's light as the wind blew through him, his tattered standard infantry lagged behind him.
The Fire of Paderborn raged through the night as he walked down the its burnt streets. He notice how the bodies wasn't rising from the ground, there can only be one explanation for that. The monster that releases the chemical gas that gives life to the dead is ultimately dead. But why isn't he dead, why is he still alive? The monster is dead, why not him? Those questions plagued what's left of his mind, he thought he would die if the monster dies, but seeing that he's alive and still hungry, he's having second thoughts.
He groan in frustration as he pasted a nearby burnt alleyway that was in complete shambles. Turning the corner, he found a few bodies that looked fresh. His stomach grumbles in attention, indicating that he needs to feed. Getting on the dirt ground, he started to dig into the slightly burnt skin, grabbing as much sweet tendered meat and stuffing it into his mouth. He moaned happily from his meal that not only feed him, but also satisfied his deepen hunger for awhile.
After his most pleasant meal, he started to wonder off to not only get away from the small town but to get away from any humans that will eventually kill him. He slowly had his way into the forest, pasting a few trees on the way. After a few minutes of slowly dragging his cold feet against the foundation of dirt, he stopped abruptly, listening for a second. He honestly thought that he was being followed. He heard a quick snap of a swig behind him, hoping it was a meaty meal, he slowly turned his head to the direction of the noise to only find nothing there. Now sadden from his effortless belief, he let out a quite annoyed groan before wonder deeper into the darken forest.
What felt like hours to him, he finally manage to get out of that accursed forest and into a clear grassy field. The moon reflected off of the most dark greenest grass that he ever seen in his life. But he doesn't really care about the scenery, all he care for is food and right now, he's getting pretty desperate for some meat, he doesn't care if it off of a cow, deer, or anything.
Letting out a grunt, he pasted a few mossy stones and before he knew it, he smell something that completely made his change his mood. The smell of rotten flesh. Once he smelt it, he knew that a corpse is nearby and he knew what that meant. Food, meat, and it smelt fresh too and he does love his meat fresh.
Turning his head to the direction of the savoring smell, he couldn't believe his eyes. A group of dead rabbits was laying on the ground in a perfect pile. Practically drooling over the sight, he didn't waste a one single second as he walked over to the pile, moaning happily for the meal he's about to eat. Grabbing a hold of a leg, he began to dig into the foul smelling corpse, enjoying the taste, he notice how the rabbit was stripped of fur. How can a rabbit survive without their fur, then it hit him like a stone, hardy, wall. There is hunters nearby, most likely human hunters.
He wanted to smile, but all he can is groan but at least he can get some of the tastiest meat he can eat, human meat, just thinking about it makes him charged with undoubtedly hunger.
He glanced around for the human hunter who's responsible for this, but only found the silent wind that hit his rotten face. The only thing that was heard was the growls of his untended stomach that craved for some meat. The hunter will eventually come back for his rabbits and when he returns, he or she will be his next meal.
A group of griffons was flying their way towards the camp that their recent hunt was laying on the ground. As they flew, one of the griffons began to talk about their near distant hunts that he took. Of course they listen, because If they don't he won't stop talking about it and If he won't stop talking about it then the boss will get angry, and If the boss is angry, well kiss their flanks goodbye.
"So, then the deer looked at me and guess what?" Asked Feather Glide, looking at the obliviously annoyed fellow hunters.
"What....." Said Lucky Scar, rolling his now redden eyes from the mid-night hunt. He was honestly on the verge of tearing Glide a new flank if he keeps this up. He dealt with a lot of idiotic griffons but this one, this one is one of the most idiotic, nothing but a waste of space griffon.
"He didn't see me," He answered letting out a chuckle. "Can you believe it, heh stupi-"
Lucky rushed to him, covering his beak, now silencing his irritating voice. The only thing that came out of his mouth was the muffles as he tried to speak.
"Can you hear that?" Placing his talons on his ears, hearing nothing but the silent wind. "That, my boy is silence. Learn it."
He let go of Glide before getting back to the rest of the griffons. Now that he silenced Glide, he can now fly to the camp in peace, or so he thinks. Glide steadily floated towards the group and before they knew it. He started to talk about more of his profoundly, annoying stories. Letting out a sigh, he headed towards their camp to at least get some form of sleep.
As the group arrive in the camp to get some sleep, little did they know, a monstrous creature was waiting in the dark shadows for them. A Monster that is capable to kill anything that seems delicious to him. This creature is nothing that the griffon hunters has ever seen before, are they able to kill such a thing or will they die like pitiful cowards. Only time will tell for they will face a threat that hungers for their flesh.
Scar let out a tiring sigh as he lay his sore head against the soft ground, looking at the beautiful scenary that was above him. The stars was divine, its twinkles always make him peculiarly calm, he doesn't know why but every time he looks at them, it reminds him of his mother that recently pasted away. He wants to believe that his mom is watching him from the stars and he does, sometimes when no ponies is around, he'll pray to his mother. He knows that his mother is listening, when a leaf pasts by him, that his mother dropping by for a visit, when he feels the wind past through him, that is his mother giving him a hug, and when its rains that his mother giving him a kiss.
He looked at his fellow hunters as they huddle around the warm fire that they started not a moments notice, they started laughing due to Glide's recent mistake that involves a stick and a handful of marshmallow, lets just say that he burnt the stick more then the marshmallows.
Letting out a small chuckle, he notice something rather odd. The rabbit meat that he personally placed out was missing a few bits and pieces, like some pony or something took a bite or two. Then a thought of a wild animal like a timberwolf or a manticore could be around the camp jumped through his mind. This seemed to trouble his mind greatly, the thought of a manticore or timberwolf snooping around the camp is frighting. What would happen if it or them come back, they will get hurt or worse killed.
He shook these terrible thoughts aside as he walked towards the scene, crouching down to get a better look of the bites. The bites seemed to have a curtain feature to it, its almost pony-like, but that is impossible the ponies haven't eaten any meat in decades, actually to think about it they haven't ate any meat at all. But then what could've done this? The only meat eaters are the griffons like himself and the dragons, this bite is too small for a dragon.
He glanced around the treeline, staring into the darkness. Whatever did this is gone, but will it return to finish what it started, will they become its next meal?
Chapter 2: Power of the Undead
He waited in the shadows as he hears the sound of voices grew nearer to him. The Hunters are close, finally after a few hours of restlessly waiting for them, now he has them within his grasp. He can't wait until they arrive so he can get a taste of them, to tear through their skins and eat their tender meat. Sure he'll have to break a few bones to get the sweetest parts, but it won't matter for you see, it takes great efforts to get your most disireable reward.
He stood stillest as the voices began to become more apprehend. The voices grew to a stop as he hears the sound of footsteps that shuffle against the grass until he finally saw the source of the voices and what he found was astonishing. A group of winged humanoid creatures was seen settling down as one of them started to make a fire. All of them had a beak that resembles a bird and feathers of a hawk. They seemed to not notice his appearance as they strangely laughed with each other, making him tilt his head in question.
What really got to him is the fact that not all of them was armed, only one or two was armed with a bow or a sword that made his odds of dying less accurate. The sword actually looked dull like a butter knife and the bow is not the most effective weapon to kill him but it still poses as a moderate threat against him. It's most likely that he could kill only one of them and if the rest tried to retaliate then they might stand a chance against him. But as like all of the species, mostly humans, will rather run away.
These bird-like humans does look like they have meat on them, which is good for him but bad for them. They will be easy pickings if they don't attack him, but seeing that they can build a fire that means that they are sapient, which means that can think. They might attack him, if one of them gets eaten, but like humans, they know fear and If they know fear, they know not approach danger without a plan.
He found movement from the right, a lone bird-like humanoid was laying down on the grass, staring up at the stars as If he was in a deep trance. This one was different from the others, he seemed to be more focus on the surrounds. His features was way off from the others, instead of a white head, it was color of a sleek black that resembles the darkness itself. Also he seemed to have a scar on his beak.
He looked over and found his handy work, the pieces off of the dead rabbits that he took. He followed his gaze as he approached the scene. He tilted his head as If he was confused and before he knew it, a terrified look printed on his face as he looked to his direction. He notice that the creature was sweating as he switched his gaze to the others. Now is the time to strike before he warns the others of his presence.
He jumped behind from the bush and into the opening, letting out a low growl as he swiftly charged the group. One of them seemed to notice as he was about to let out a scream of warning but it was too late. He grabbed one of them by the neck as he bit down as hard as he could, blood soaked his mouth and as he predicted, they scrambled from the scene. It wasn't too long before his victim started to die from his blood spiting wound. The taste was some what great, it wasn't good as human meat, but it was great.
As he dig into his fine meal, he couldn't help but notice that the forest was quiet, no grasshoppers chirping, not even the sound of the wind. The only sound was the sound of wood, crisping from the fire. It was odd indeed but he doesn't care, all he cares about is the meaty food in front of him. That until he heard a low whisper that got his attention.
"Liking the food are we?"
He turned his head to the sound of the dark voice but to find nothing there, slowly getting up, he started to glance around to find the source of the voice.
"Having problems seeing me." The voice stated before chuckling darkly. "Only a few can hear me, but to see me, you got to to earn that privilege."
He tilted his head, slightly as he let out a low groan. Their was a lot of confusion going through his mind, like why can't he see him or how can he only hear him?
"You come from a world of pain and to find yourself here." The Voice let out another devious chuckle. "I'm impressed. But enough complements, I got a assignment for you."
He stood tall as a green cloud began to engulf his entire being. His body began to react to the gas cloud as he felt more stronger, more hungry then before. It was like a jolt to energy, sending his brain cells a ton of messages. It was information about this area, he knows what they are. This creature that lays before him was a griffon. He wasn't on earth anymore that is for sure, he was in a different land, a strange world of magic.
As he process this new information, he notice that this world was free of terror, there was no war, no violence, nothing corrupted at all. How can a world without war or terror coexist? There must be a conflicts to shape a world, but no, nothing at all. Its strange for him, it almost disgust him, all his life, probably even before he died and became this hideous form, he experience the full potential of life, but this, this isn't life, this is just cheating on life. If they will ever experience the potential of life, they got to experience terror, pain, and most of all fear. He will show them the way, the way of true terror.
"You see what this world became..." The Dark voice spoke softly as the Info about this world flows through his head. "This world.....this pitiful world have mourn for blood, the blood of the innocents have turned this world into its own joyful playground. In your own term, its almost cheating as your kind would say."
He nodded slowly as he felt a deep pressure against his chest. Glancing down, a hole could be seen as the same gas that was around him was being sucked into that hole.
"I want you to teach them a lesson. A...how can I say painful lesson. "The Voice stated coldly as the hole began to close. "Teach them that not all life is about friendship and peace. That true peace will have to be earned by the blood of the world itself.
"I want you to remake this world into your image, where peace is crushed by conflict and friends and family will be taken by the dead. It is time for war, it its the time for the dead to rise."
The gas began to leak out as he walked to the body of the griffon as It lied stillest, the body began to shake uncontrollably as it began to rise from the ground, staring blindly at the sky. Fire began to erupt from his beak as his eyes glowed molten lava red. His eyes swiftly at him as he let out a low groan of attention. He raised his arm up in the air, straightening his hand remembering the old salute correctly that is. The undead griffin saluted back as he putted his hand down.
"Yes, excellent." He chuckle darkly. "This is your first step of teaching this world a lesson. You can make the dead as your own puppets, your tools of destruction."
If he could smile, he would, but seeing that he lacks the willpower of moving his mouth, he can't. But he does wields the power to control the dead like the monster that brought him life, he can hardly believe it. Then again this is a world of magic, where practically nothing is impossible.
"I expect much effort in your conquest. I must be leaving, apparently two goddess is curious our 'chat'. So expect some resistance."
The wind started to pick back up as he glanced around curiously. The only thing was the undead griffin that he turned into his puppet. He needs to keep growing his army if he will stand against the local militia, time will tell if that will come, but he know curtain that with the power over the dead, he will plunge this world into a everlasting terror.
