Wolfenstein: Shamblers
Chapter 2: Power of the Undead
Previous ChapterHe waited in the shadows as he hears the sound of voices grew nearer to him. The Hunters are close, finally after a few hours of restlessly waiting for them, now he has them within his grasp. He can't wait until they arrive so he can get a taste of them, to tear through their skins and eat their tender meat. Sure he'll have to break a few bones to get the sweetest parts, but it won't matter for you see, it takes great efforts to get your most disireable reward.
He stood stillest as the voices began to become more apprehend. The voices grew to a stop as he hears the sound of footsteps that shuffle against the grass until he finally saw the source of the voices and what he found was astonishing. A group of winged humanoid creatures was seen settling down as one of them started to make a fire. All of them had a beak that resembles a bird and feathers of a hawk. They seemed to not notice his appearance as they strangely laughed with each other, making him tilt his head in question.
What really got to him is the fact that not all of them was armed, only one or two was armed with a bow or a sword that made his odds of dying less accurate. The sword actually looked dull like a butter knife and the bow is not the most effective weapon to kill him but it still poses as a moderate threat against him. It's most likely that he could kill only one of them and if the rest tried to retaliate then they might stand a chance against him. But as like all of the species, mostly humans, will rather run away.
These bird-like humans does look like they have meat on them, which is good for him but bad for them. They will be easy pickings if they don't attack him, but seeing that they can build a fire that means that they are sapient, which means that can think. They might attack him, if one of them gets eaten, but like humans, they know fear and If they know fear, they know not approach danger without a plan.
He found movement from the right, a lone bird-like humanoid was laying down on the grass, staring up at the stars as If he was in a deep trance. This one was different from the others, he seemed to be more focus on the surrounds. His features was way off from the others, instead of a white head, it was color of a sleek black that resembles the darkness itself. Also he seemed to have a scar on his beak.
He looked over and found his handy work, the pieces off of the dead rabbits that he took. He followed his gaze as he approached the scene. He tilted his head as If he was confused and before he knew it, a terrified look printed on his face as he looked to his direction. He notice that the creature was sweating as he switched his gaze to the others. Now is the time to strike before he warns the others of his presence.
He jumped behind from the bush and into the opening, letting out a low growl as he swiftly charged the group. One of them seemed to notice as he was about to let out a scream of warning but it was too late. He grabbed one of them by the neck as he bit down as hard as he could, blood soaked his mouth and as he predicted, they scrambled from the scene. It wasn't too long before his victim started to die from his blood spiting wound. The taste was some what great, it wasn't good as human meat, but it was great.
As he dig into his fine meal, he couldn't help but notice that the forest was quiet, no grasshoppers chirping, not even the sound of the wind. The only sound was the sound of wood, crisping from the fire. It was odd indeed but he doesn't care, all he cares about is the meaty food in front of him. That until he heard a low whisper that got his attention.
"Liking the food are we?"
He turned his head to the sound of the dark voice but to find nothing there, slowly getting up, he started to glance around to find the source of the voice.
"Having problems seeing me." The voice stated before chuckling darkly. "Only a few can hear me, but to see me, you got to to earn that privilege."
He tilted his head, slightly as he let out a low groan. Their was a lot of confusion going through his mind, like why can't he see him or how can he only hear him?
"You come from a world of pain and to find yourself here." The Voice let out another devious chuckle. "I'm impressed. But enough complements, I got a assignment for you."
He stood tall as a green cloud began to engulf his entire being. His body began to react to the gas cloud as he felt more stronger, more hungry then before. It was like a jolt to energy, sending his brain cells a ton of messages. It was information about this area, he knows what they are. This creature that lays before him was a griffon. He wasn't on earth anymore that is for sure, he was in a different land, a strange world of magic.
As he process this new information, he notice that this world was free of terror, there was no war, no violence, nothing corrupted at all. How can a world without war or terror coexist? There must be a conflicts to shape a world, but no, nothing at all. Its strange for him, it almost disgust him, all his life, probably even before he died and became this hideous form, he experience the full potential of life, but this, this isn't life, this is just cheating on life. If they will ever experience the potential of life, they got to experience terror, pain, and most of all fear. He will show them the way, the way of true terror.
"You see what this world became..." The Dark voice spoke softly as the Info about this world flows through his head. "This world.....this pitiful world have mourn for blood, the blood of the innocents have turned this world into its own joyful playground. In your own term, its almost cheating as your kind would say."
He nodded slowly as he felt a deep pressure against his chest. Glancing down, a hole could be seen as the same gas that was around him was being sucked into that hole.
"I want you to teach them a lesson. A...how can I say painful lesson. "The Voice stated coldly as the hole began to close. "Teach them that not all life is about friendship and peace. That true peace will have to be earned by the blood of the world itself.
"I want you to remake this world into your image, where peace is crushed by conflict and friends and family will be taken by the dead. It is time for war, it its the time for the dead to rise."
The gas began to leak out as he walked to the body of the griffon as It lied stillest, the body began to shake uncontrollably as it began to rise from the ground, staring blindly at the sky. Fire began to erupt from his beak as his eyes glowed molten lava red. His eyes swiftly at him as he let out a low groan of attention. He raised his arm up in the air, straightening his hand remembering the old salute correctly that is. The undead griffin saluted back as he putted his hand down.
"Yes, excellent." He chuckle darkly. "This is your first step of teaching this world a lesson. You can make the dead as your own puppets, your tools of destruction."
If he could smile, he would, but seeing that he lacks the willpower of moving his mouth, he can't. But he does wields the power to control the dead like the monster that brought him life, he can hardly believe it. Then again this is a world of magic, where practically nothing is impossible.
"I expect much effort in your conquest. I must be leaving, apparently two goddess is curious our 'chat'. So expect some resistance."
The wind started to pick back up as he glanced around curiously. The only thing was the undead griffin that he turned into his puppet. He needs to keep growing his army if he will stand against the local militia, time will tell if that will come, but he know curtain that with the power over the dead, he will plunge this world into a everlasting terror.
