The Starlight Saint
Saints Row: Finish Line
Previous ChapterNext ChapterWith the Rollerz just about ready to throw in the towel, there seemed to be enough breathing room to get in another favor from one of Julius' contacts. This one was a strip club owner named Jack. He was found seated at one of the tables counting his cash. "Glad you two could make it," he said when saw Playa and Starlight, "Julius tells me you've done the sort of work I need before. Here's the thing, some of my more prominent clients often want a little more than a lap dance, which I don't mind if the girls are comfortable with the john in question. A little extra cash, a private VIP room, and they can bust their nut all they like."
"But it doesn't always happen that way, does it?," Starlight guessed. "Glad to see you understand what my favor entails," Jack said with a nod, "Some of the clients have weird fetishes you just can't satisfy in a classy joint like mine. So we hook 'em up with a girl in a private limo with tinted windows and have someone drive 'em around. And that's were you come in. Just make sure the johns get their privacy as you drive them around, and I'll slide you some major cash for your trouble." Keeping away from the news vans proved easier with the wide open airport nearby, and soon enough all eight johns left happy.
That night the duo joined the rest of the Saints at the church. "Sharp's death monopolized the evening news," Julius said, "This'll provide a blow to Alderman Hughes' campaign, not that it matters to us so long as Stilwater's safe from gang violence." "And we've pushed back the Rollerz to a single territory," Starlight noted, "We could probably wipe them out with one final push." "We'll have to take a rain-check on that," Troy said as he came in, "Our scouts just spotted Price getting the Rollerz fired up for an attack on the Row. He's planning on all-out war."
"Guess he's done sitting there while we fuck up his boys," Lin quipped. "His mental state can't be good with Donnie off the radar and Sharp dead," Julius noted, "Troy, get as many of our boys on intercept points to stop Price's war band. I'll go after him personally and try to stop his assault. Starlight, Playa, I could use some back-up." "Count on me," Starlight agreed, and Playa nodded in confirmation. The three of them got into Julius' car, with Starlight driving, and headed for the suburbs.
It didn't take long to spot the convoy racing down the freeway. Starlight put her driving skills to work while Playa blasted the vehicles from medium range with the RPG, he and Julius breaking out the submachine guns to take out the drivers directly if they got within that target range. Eleven cars were taken out this way, until only Price was left. "I can see Price," Starlight said, "Get ready." Julius and Playa leveled their guns, but Price caught Starlight off-guard with a side-swipe, sending Playa flying out of the car and causing Starlight to pull over.
Bruised but otherwise unhurt, Playa got up and dusted himself off, spotting Price driving away, though it was clear he was giving up on the Row for the time being. "That's why you always buckle up, even in a drive by," Julius said with an amused tone, "Shame Price got away, but we'll get another chance. We took out his convoy so we have some breathing room to plan a counter-attack." "Why don't we take some time to finish Miguel's list?," Starlight suggested, "The more things we can check off, the more we can focus on the real fight." Playa nodded. They proceeded to grab a Destiny, Slingshot, Bootlegger, and La Fuerza to finish off the list.
The next morning, Lin got in contact with Starlight. 'We need to make sure Price can't pull this sort of stunt on us again. Luckily, I happen to know when his favorite car is at his mansion, and where he keeps his keys. Steal the car for yourself, and we'll send him a clear message. This'll be his last chance to back out, or we take him out.' The mansion turned out to be crawling with more Rollerz, which Playa and Starlight had to take out as they went after the key. But from there it was easy to swipe the car, hit a Forgive and Forget to lose the heat, and claim Misty Lane for the Saints as a result of their actions.
As the day wore on, Playa and Starlight performed a few more tasks to tick off the boxes. There were a couple more hit list targets, Bill in the factories with a molotov and John with a McManus sniper rifle. The latter one was a helicopter pilot in the police, so Playa had to go on another rampage to draw him out. They also an FBI, a type of police van, for Sampson. They capped off the recreation time by grabbing some tags and CDs in Black Bottom and Stoughton.
As they finished up, Troy gave Playa a call. 'Word just reached us. Price is calling you and Starlight out. You're to meet at the Foreign Power dealership in Misty Lane. Me and Lin are on our way to back you up, just in case he pulls any tricks.' This turned out to be a good idea, as the first thing Price tried was running over the Saints in a Goliath semi towing a car carrier. "Shit!," Lin called out, "Let's get after him, this could be our only chance to take him out!"
As they pulled up to the semi, Troy called out, "Starlight, can you throw that thing aside or cause it to skid? Anything to slow it down." "I've gotten up to lifting military-grade vehicles," Starlight confirmed, "But a semi-truck with carrier bed is a little above my weight class." "How about the individual cars?," Lin suggested, "That should lower the mass enough." Starlight nodded. "Sure, but they'd need to be cut loose first."
Lin and Playa popped out of the windows just enough to start shooting at the locks holding the cars in place. Once Starlight saw a car come loose, she tossed it aside, trying to aim for the tops of buildings. Once the carrier was empty, Troy pulled up alongside it and started shooting at the coupling. Once it started to come loose, Starlight finished the job, then hit the semi hard enough to pop the tires. The resulting skidding caused the semi to crash and explode, killing Price. Shortly thereafter, Julius showed up.
"You could see and hear that explosion all the way from the Row," he noted, "Bit excessive, but it got the job done. What's left of the Rollerz are dropping their flags or taking up ours. They're finished. But there's one thing that still bugs me... Those buyers Sharp was talking about." "Oh yeah," Starlight realized, "We never did figure that out, did we?" "Donnie said it had something to do with Sharp's deal with the Alderman," Lin admitted, "But he doesn't know any more than that. Price and Sharp must've kept him outta the loop." Troy nodded. "Considering his loose lips helped us take out the Rollerz, I'd say it was justified."
"Clearly there's a bigger picture here," Julius noted, "And we don't have enough pieces to put it together yet. For now let's redouble our efforts against the Carnales and Vice Kings. With the revenue from the Rollerz chop shops we have more resources to work with, but it's still only a third of Stilwater. You doing okay, Playa?" "I nearly got run over by a semi!," Playa replied incredulously, "How do you think I'm doing!?" "Pretty poorly if that's your attitude," Julius said with a shrug, "I'll head back to the church. Swing by when have time. This fight is only beginning."
With Price's mansion now under Playa's ownership, he was able to plan out the side tasks he and Starlight had to do more efficiently. First up was a club owner named Reno. The man had already been told the famous duo was stopping by, so the doorman man showed them in. "Glad to see you could make it on short notice," Reno said, "Here's the deal. There's a new cop just transferred into the Stilwater PD." Starlight nodded. "The sort who doesn't get how the city works, right?" "That's the type," Reno agreed, "He's been in here and giving me all kinds of lip, saying how he plans to run me outta business."
"So where's our part in this?," Starlight asked. "It's simple," Reno explained, "I got a little ace in the hole the Uncle Tom don't know about. A few cops on a personal payroll. They've already told me when he plans to raid the joint. What I need you to do is go out and cause as much damage as possible to distract the cop while I hide anything he can use against me in a more private location." "We getting hazard pay?," Playa asked. "Absolutely," Reno replied, "After all, it's a dangerous job I'm having you do. It'd wreck my reputation if I didn't compensate ya."
After the cops were sufficiently distracted by all the mayhem, Starlight and Playa moved on to meet a dealer named Tobias who lived on Fox Drive. When they found him he was angrily shooting a man prone on the floor, who from the looks of it had already died several shots ago. "YOU THINK YOU CAN STEAL FROM ME!?," Tobias was asking in an angry tone, "YOU THINK YOU CAN ROB ME!? YOU STUPID! FUCKING! BACKSTABBING! PIECE OF SHIT!" Each exclamation was emphasized with another shot.
Tobias spotted the duo and calmed down immediately. "Sorry for the mess." "And the tantrum?," Starlight asked. Tobias nodded. "I'm usually a lot more calm cause of all the weed I work around but Billy here thought it'd be a good idea to skim off the top, and well..." He shot the corpse again to prove his point. "Let's just say he was wrong." "You even have ammo left in that gun?," Starlight wondered. Curious himself, Tobias turned on the gun's safety and pulled out the clip. "Doesn't look like it. Guess I was more mad than I thought. Anyway, about the job."
He walked over to his van. "I need someone to watch my back while I'm doing my deals around the area. As you might expect, the Carnales aren't exactly thrilled about small business competition. The job used to be Billy's but..." He looked back at the corpse. "I doubt he's gonna make it in today. If you can keep me alive until I finish all my deals, I'll cut you both in on the action." Tobias' assertions regarding the Carnales was an understatement, but they still managed to finish all the deals without too much trouble.
Looking to cap off her city racing career, Starlight went to Brighton to check the races there, Playa following along. They met up with Ty, who was orchestrating the races, and seemed to be having trouble as he talked on the phone. "Hey Starlight. Your rep proceeds you, which could be good for me. See, last week one of the racers took out some kid on a turn." Starlight winced. "They both okay?" "Kid's still in the hospital," Ty admitted, "The racer got off by paying the bills, but no one's seen him since and it's getting everyone worried. I need one last racer for this set to go down. Think you're up for it?"
Starlight nodded with a smirk and got in her car. Soon enough, it wasn't long before she won all eight races, officially naming her as the street racing queen of Stilwater. The Saints were bragging about it back at the church. "Nice racing out there," Julius said, "Best part, it's getting our name on the streets. We keep this up, and we'll have the Carnales and even the Vice Kings running scared." He would have loved to see the look on Ben King's face when they started in on that tussle, but Playa and Starlight seemed eager to take on the Carnales next. 'No matter. I've waited this long to settle things with Ben. Another week or two won't kill me.
