Season 1 Episode 2: The Winter Spirit Part 2
Soarin’s P.O.V
I haven’t gotten any sleep for the past week. My hands are tightly clasped together as I inhaled ever so deeply. My chest and stomach, both maneuvering back and forth, yet for all, my palms are sweaty. The hospital was full of Indian nurses travelling back and forth, in their gray and white uniforms.
Hundreds of people were being rushed into emergency rooms due to the plane crash. Others were just piling in the hospital to gather blankets and warm supplies for the winter blast that occured in India a few days ago. While the loud buzz of children crying, adults running around, announcements being made, the rest of us sitting here, including Dashie’s parents, were waiting to hear from Dash and her surgery.
I was traumatized over Rainbow Dash’s condition, and I still am today. At the corner of my eye, I happen to spot Sunset Shimmer, sitting by the window, all by herself. I walked over to her because I know she felt pretty devastated and embarrassed by all that was going on. As I sat on the chair next to her, she turned her posture away from me.
“Look, I know you’re hurting right now, and so am I,” I stated before reaching my hands over to her shoulder. “But, I know Rainbow Dash, and so do you. She never backs down from a fight.”
“How can you be so optimistic?” Sunset asked while choking on her words, wincing away from me. “Your girlfriend that you haven’t seen in like, almost a year has been in a coma for the past week, and you’re somehow okay with all of this?!”
“Just because I am not weeping my eyes out like most people will do in this situation doesn’t mean that I am not hurting,”
Sunset pondered for a moment then she bit her lip so hard, her lips started turning a bright shade of scarlet. Her baconed hair locks bounced to the side as she puffed out some air from between her lips.
“Perhaps you're right,” She softly sniffled, wiping away her tears from her eyes. “Maybe I'm just remembering all the times where I was so vain that I turned into a monster.”
I cocked my head over to the right side because I never seen Sunset turn into a monster. The only monster I've seen her turn into is the times where she would be on her period. And trust me, you don't want to be the witness of that. Makes me wonder how Twilight as her girlfriend must go through a process as crazy as that.
“Sunset, you're not a monster,”
“You weren't there when I turned into one, but back when I was a total bully at Canterlot High, I turned into a she-demon, and trust me, I thought I was gaining all the power in the world. But I wasn't. I was only looking at the peaks of my objective without even thinking about anyone else. Until Twilight showed me another way, and that was friendship,”
Seeing Sunset actually tell me her background story really burned my heart. And here, I thought I had personal insecurities that I couldn't fully control.
“I didn't know Twilight was going to give me that second chance to redeem myself, but apparently she did,” She contemplated on her last words while looked at her hands.
They were shaking rapidly and so was her whole body. I rested my hand over her shoulders and plastered a smile on my face.
“Maybe she saw the same potential I see in you,”
Sunset's brows flummoxed but her eyes widened once I placed my index and middle finger across her heart.
“You have a very hard potential that only you can be able to reach. I see a strong determined warrior that will do nothing but strive for greatness. After all Amaani did give you the medal of Affinity, didn't she not?”
“Y-yes, but-”
“Yes, because she saw that same potential that Twilight saw in you. And we all see it as well. Sunset you're not a monster and I am sure if Twilight didn't think so, she wouldn't have dated you,”
I don't know what I said but Sunset just burst into a series of laughter. I guess we both had that same energy because I ended up laughing as well. Other people who were waiting in the waiting area started giving us glares but that didn't stop us from having the laugh of our lives. Even if there's a lot going on in our lives at the very moment, it's always good to reminisce on the funny stuff from the past.
“I was talking about Princess Twilight,” She snorted while clutching onto her stomach and continued laughing.
It took me a while to comprehend on what Sunset just told me. So, there happens to be another Twilight? From where, when, how, and of course why?
“Wait what?!” I hollered as she started laughing even more than before.
Soon, the rest of the girls forwarded their eyes in our corner and shrugged their shoulders at us. I couldn't tell them what was happening but I mouthed the words “We're just having a chat” and they totally understood.
“Haha, I'll leave that story for another time okay?” She responded while wiping the happy tears from her eyes. It felt nice seeing the happy laughing side of Sunset. I nodded my head in reply to her question then all of a sudden she gently punched my arm.
“And thanks for cheering me up,”
“Hey, no problem at all, it's always a pleasure!”
“Now I can see why Rainbow Dash loves your presence so much, haha,”
I couldn't help but smile at the thought of Sunset's words, and see how my relationship with Dashie can bring out the best in others. Twilight happened to walk over to our little corner, and that's when Sunset ran to her, hugging her ever so tightly.
The both of them plopped onto the ground and Twilight was just as nice, to gently pat her back. She ended up wiping the tears from Sunset's eyes and placing her hands over Sunset's face cheeks as Sunset placed her hands over Twilight's wrists.
“Those better be tears of joy,” Twilight added before Sunset started giggling to herself.
“Yeah, those are happy tears all right!”
As the romantic scene was taking place in the hospital waiting room, a small Indian nurse, with long jet black hair, a light mocha skin complexion, and her gray and white uniform walked towards us. Her dark brown eyes were maneuvering all around her clipboard.
She seemed like an intern even though on her medical card, it stated that she had her PhD. The purple inked pen that she was using before to write, was stuck in between her bun. She looked up from her clipboard and stared at us for a while. Pinkie immediately ran towards the nurse, almost giving her a heart attack.
“Hi, are you Dashie’s nurse? Even if, how is she? Is she breathing? Is she okay? Is she even awake? Can we talk to her? When will she wake up from her coma?!”
Applejack ended up pulling Pinkie Pie away from the nurse, while the nurse clutched onto her chest. Next thing you know, Rainbow Dash’s father strolled into the conversation and wanted to know what's up with his daughter.
“Excuse me Niña, but is there any status data on my daughter?”
“Well yes, there has been some modificational changes with her surgery but once she wakes up, we try our best to supplement her chang-”
“MODIFICATIONAL CHANGES?!??!” The king hollered in the waiting room.
Sunset’s P.O.V
The nurse couldn’t really say a word but she was very very nervous. Everyone stared in our area and the king was utterly furious. Phyra tried her hardest to calm him down but he was just boiling in fury.
“You decided to have some modificational changes for Rainbow Dash when you specifically didn't ask for my permission?!”
“Please your highness, lower your voice, the other patients need to rest,” She reassured him but that only made him even worse.
“Other patients?! Do you think I really care about the other patients?! What about my daughter? She's been technically resting for a whole week! And you’re busy worrying about other patients who are nowhere near my daughter’s condition?!”
Seeing the king getting so riled up about not hearing a word about his daughter really hit to home. I could totally understand why he was acting the way he was. He was pretty much of an asshole towards her, and let’s not forget being a major douche towards Soarin as well.
I am sure what he wanted to do was apologize for this actions, but none of us would even dream of being stuck in this situation. Before the king’s anger grew out of proportion, he simply walked away and sat in one of the waiting area chairs, pulling his soft rainbow hair out of his scalp.
Applejack and I made eye contact knowing that this whole catastrophe with Rainbow Dash hasn’t been the best of both worlds. Soarin, standing in the corner, was shaking his head while staring into his palms.
“Your highness, before you flew off the handle, I was going to say that your daughter is in wonderful condition and that she will be able to wake up any moment now. The modificational changes were beneficial for your daughter’s future, so there’s no need to worry,”
“Since she is still in her coma, is it alright if visitors will be welcome?” Fluttershy asked softly before the nurse nodded her head.
“Affirmative! All visitors can be able to see the princess, but only one person can see her right now.”
Everyone started pondering to themselves and my vision suddenly drew right back to Soarin. His emerald eyes were swelling up with tears, but from far away, it seemed as though he was trying to shake it off, but that didn’t stop me from coming up with a well secure plan.
“I think it’s best for Soarin to see Rainbow Dash,” I spoke up which made everyone’s eyes dart towards me with consideration.
“Soarin hasn’t even seen Rainbow Dash in almost a year, and I know the parents of Dash are dying to see her as well, but Soarin has been waiting for this day longer than Dash herself. I could only imagine the pain Soarin is going through at the very moment, and Soarin is a guy that doesn’t express emotion too much. So, I would like for Soarin to go see his girlfriend!”
The frown on Soarin’s face slowly disappeared and transformed into a sheepish smile while his face burned from embarrassment. Soarin ended up talking to the nurse and headed off into the room. I folded my arms and puffed out my chest with pride! I felt as though I did something wonderful, well for the first time in a very long time that is….
Soarin’s P.O.V
“Just note that she is still in her coma, but she can still hear your voice, so be careful on what you say,” Niña whispered in my ear softly.
I nodded my head in reply, while she walked away from my current position. My fingers gently touched the doorknob to the room, and I securely hoped for the best. I took a deep breath and shortly after a while, I walked inside the hospital bedroom and there I saw, Rainbow Dash.
She was hooked up to multiple machines, some on her arms, nose, and of course her legs. Her left leg was bandaged up together in a cast, and her hair was wrapped up in a messy bun. Her eyes were clamped shut and the only thing I could do at the very moment was cry to myself.
I shook my head to shake off this hurtful feeling, because I had to be, no, I NEEDED to be strong for Rainbow Dash. As I was strolling alongside next to her, something told me to not cry, but if you were in my shoes and saw your girlfriend, severely injured and was in a coma for four days, I am guessing you would do the same. My cold cyan hands gently stroked passed her hair making a rainbow stream against the white pillow her head was resting on.
“H-hey Dashie…” was all I could say at the very moment, in a very shaky tone.
“I wasn’t expecting us to be here, but here we are anyway. I haven’t seen you in almost a year now, and seeing you in this condition makes me feel very weak, but I know you. You’re a fighter, you’re determined, and you are going to make it, but for now, take life one step at a time,”
My wrist felt a splash of water pouring into the souls of my hand, and I realized that my tears were overflowing nonstop. I forcefully clenched my hands around her soft hands, and I didn’t want to let go of this feeling. I bent over the bed she was resting on, and kissed the same hand I was holding.
“I love you sweetheart,” I sobbed while giving her hand more kisses. “I always had.”
There was a sudden knock on the door, and there I saw, Sunset’s head peeking out, smiling extremely hard. Her smile then forwarded into a depressing frown once of the sight of seeing Rainbow Dash.
“You really miss her, huh?”
I couldn’t bare to respond but the tears kept coming and coming. Sunset walked behind me and started rubbing my shoulders up and down, which did comfort me somehow.
“T-thanks Sunset,”
“Anytime Soarin,” She smiled as she started wiping my tears with one of the tissues in a tissue box she found inside the hospital room. “Trust me, I know exactly what you’re going through, this is only the first step. We just have to wait until she wakes up.”
“But what if she doesn’t?” I asked before Sunset gave a ninety degree head turn, then folded her arms extra tight, while giving me a glare.
“I’m sorry what was that? That low confidence bullshit don’t fly with me, understood?!”
My eyes sophisticatedly widened hearing the choice of diction that came out of Sunset's lips. Her stern glare transformed into an automatic giggle, which made her punch my shoulder lightly.
“Just kidding with you, but seriously I don't accept that shit, ya feel me?”
“Yeah, I feel you,”
We both stared at Rainbow Dash with concern hoping that her eyes will eventually open. Just remembering all those times she's been such a wonderful girlfriend. Even her father has changed his mind about me three weeks before her arrival. I just hope that he doesn't change his mind due to her condition. I really hope she doesn't lose her memory in all of this.
I began to shake rapidly once again but this time, I started breathing heavily. My eyes were runny, itchy, and also blurry in my vision. Sunset tried her best to calm me down but it was no use. I didn't know what I was feeling or what was happening, but I felt depressed. I felt alone. Sunsets grabbed onto my hands firmly while rubbing my back as well. This of course didn't help me whatsoever.
“S-she's gone….there's no use….I can't take this anymore…”
“Woah, Soarin, calm down, I am sure Dash is going to be fine,” Sunset's voice ended up being as soft and gentle as a lullaby. “Look, they are serving some soup in the hospital's cafeteria, maybe some warm soup will do you some good.”
“Oh yeah? Well, what type of soup do they have?”
“Oh, there's this one called Rasam and this other one called multi, m-multi, mulligana, millywana-”
Sunset struggled so hard to try to pronounce the name of the soup, and seeing her struggling made me chuckle softly. The other girls and Sunset are going to have to try to get used to this new Indian environment, including myself because of Dash’s new condition.
“Mulligatawny?” I chuckled before she nodded her head and placed a “bubble in her mouth” as the people would say.
“Haha, yeah that one! I have no idea what's in it, but that certain soup is running out, seems like an Indian favorite.”
“Yeah, it’s Dashie’s favorite….”
The room drawn closely into silence until Sunset decided to make popping sounds with her mouth. I am guessing she was bored because the popping eventually grew louder and louder, like little “POP”s here and there.
“I am sure some of that soup will fill your heart's content,”
“Would it really?” my nose flared in anger because right now, my hands were clutching onto Dash’s hand as it grew paler and paler by the second. Sunset nibbled on her bottom lip while she glanced over her bed.
“To make you stop thinking about Rainbow Dash’s condition, yes,” She reassured me. “And you didn’t have to answer with an attitude, I don’t have to help you.”
“Then don’t!” I yelped, making my voice crack terribly, eventually squeezing Dashie’s hand at the very moment. The room became silent as the stars in the dark indigo sky. Sunset didn’t say a word, but her pupils dilated. Her mouth was set into a straight line and her knees knobbed.
“I...I think I am going to see how the others are doing……” She forwarded over to the door, looking back at me, but my eyes were never darting in her direction.
“Yeah, you do that.”
I didn’t bother look back at Sunset because I don’t think she understands that I am going through a very hard time. Maybe I was being a little too hard on her as well. Rainbow Dash is her best friend, and I feel as though I was claiming Rainbow Dash as my own, and to be honest, she wasn’t mine completely.
She has her parents, her friends, Monoko, and of course her Gemporian family as well. I felt like a utter bully to Sunset Shimmer, and it wasn’t even her fault. Before I could apologize for my actions, I heard something that interrupted my train of thought.
“Don’t be such a bitch Soarin,”
My eyes widened and my anger boiled even hotter than the last time. I felt as though I was a volcano and I was going to erupt any moment now.
“What did you just call me?!”
“I didn’t say…..anything,” Sunset looked back and shrugged her shoulders as well. She walked back into the room, cocked her head to the side, and looked down at Dashie’s bed.
“I could've sworn you were talking to me,”
“No Soarin, I didn't say anything, I was already out the door.” Sunset threw her hands in the air as a sign of anger which eventually spread onto me, like butter against flat bread. “Maybe you're just hearing things.”
As if things couldn't get any better, I felt someone’s hand touching mine. It felt smooth, but yet for all, they weren't warm. I didn't bother look at the hand but rather I looked out the window, seeing the snow accumulating faster into the streets of Chennai. From hearing the television that was playing, the snow was already at thirty-six inches. I figured Sunset's hands were cold and she wanted some warmth, so I ended up warming her hands for her.
“Look Sunset, if you wanted to hold hands, all you had to do was ask,”
“Dude, I'm all the way by the window.”
Sunset’s right arm was waving rapidly at me, and that's when my breathing started increasing non stop. I looked down from Dashie’s bed only to see her fingers wrapped gently around my wrist on my left hand. Her eyes were still shut but her skin wasn't as pale as before.
Her coughing sounded like a dying horse gasping for air from being in a scorching desert for weeks. I didn't know whether to cry, smile, scream or do anything, but all I did was kiss her lovely fingers.
“R-rainbow Dash?”
“S-s-s-soarin..? Is that...is that you?” She coughed even more as her upper body started shifting slowly in the bed.
“Yes, yes sweetheart, it's me!”
I was able to see her smile once again, which made my heart build up. Sunset started crying tears of joy before she leaned over to the right side of Dashie’s bed.
“So, you're the one who called Soarin a bitch huh?” Sunset smirked at me then looked over to see Dash squirming. Her short rainbow hair was all over her face and pillow, which ended up covering her face.
“Yeah, pretty much,”
She started coughing non stop then she tried to get out from her current position but she couldn’t. Sunset and I stared out the window only to see that the storm was getting worse by the second.
The wind from the outside blizzard suddenly started blowing disastrous debris all over India. The view from the window didn't look pretty at all. The powerful wind gusts were circulating leaves, snow, even broken building parts, and it felt like a tornado.
Then the greatest thing happened! Her bright magenta pupils were sparkled with the stuck of love, and it felt as though a flower first bloomed on a fresh spring day! My heart started thumping loudly once her dazzling eyes were staring right into my own.
“Well, I waited all my life for this moment, to see those gorgeous eyes of yours bloom,”
Her face turned from pale blue to a bright rose, as she batted her lashes twice in my direction, while the corners for her mouth quirked up.
“Hey, you feeling okay?” I placed my right hand over her face cheek, then she decided to deeply snuggle into my palm.
“I am now that your warm hand is pressed against my cheek like this,” She planted a warm smile across her face. “I haven’t felt your touch in so long, I missed this…”
A teardrop fell on my index finger as she began to silently sob to herself. I didn’t like to see her in this condition and I knew she was hurt inside. I wanted to hold her, press my lips against her rosy lips, place my arms around her waist, motion my hands around her cheeks and squeeze them tightly, and gently stroke her rainbow locks.
“Shhh, hey hey, I’m here now, and I will never leave your side,”
I softly shifted the rails all the way down until I was able to grab her freezing body to be lightened up with my warm heat. Once my arms were tightly wrapped around her waist, she gently moved up on me, and buried her face in my neck. In my vision, I saw Sunset clutch her heart while smiling really hard at the both of us.
Suddenly, the door started to swing open, and there stood a brolic tall doctor, who had a sliver clipboard in his hands, and wore his blue uniform. Dash stared at him with her bright magenta eyes, which were dazzling into his vision.
“Well your highness, seems as though you have awoken from your coma, which is wonderful news!”
Sunset and I both exchanged elated glances at one another, as Rainbow Dash kept staring at the doctor in shock. Her eyes started gleaming once he said “wonderful news”.
“So, does this mean I can go home now before the storm gets worse?”
“Well, by checking upon your status it seems as though you are stable to go home, but we like to make sure you’re incredibly stabilized to go home,” The doctor stated while checking supplies off his clipboard.
“We’ve already made establishments for you to carry home our very own hospital bed so it’s like you’re at home, but in a more comfortable bed for your condition.”
Rainbow Dash didn’t look excited nor devastated about the situation. She just calmly sat in the bed, sitting up straight, while clutching onto the minty green pillow. Sunset nodded her head, listening to what the doctor had to say about Dash, and I on the other hand was making sure Dash was okay with all of this.
“So, if we want her to get out as quickly as possible, I will come back in a few minutes to sample her data and give her one more check up then send her home with one of our finest nurses in the job!”
And on that note, the doctor went out the door, slamming it not too hard but enough for the door to be sealed shut.
“The good thing is that you can get out of here before the winter storm gets worse,”
Dash didn’t reply, but rather kept the same facial expression on her face for the past five minutes. I don’t know if she was in shock or speechless over the fact that all of this happened to her in such short of time. Without hesitation, the wins started howling like a loud pack of wolves getting ready to hunt as a group. The wind was so strong, the hospital started to rumble gently.
“Do you feel that?” Sunset asked as her head was forming circles all around before Dash herself started nodding her head in agreement.
“Yeah, it feels like the hospital is shaking,”
“Seems like the storm is getting worse, we better get you out of here before something else happens,” I stated while staring at the ceiling with a very close eye.
Suddenly, something caught my attention. The ceiling began to shake vigorously and the wind’s howl sounded as though it can burst through the ceiling in any minute. As though the storm heard my inner thoughts, the ceiling burst open like a huge wrecking ball slammed through a brick wall.
Spirals of snow flurries circulated the room causing everything in the room to get swept up into a blizzard tornado! Sunset and Rainbow Dash both screamed in unison as some of the hospital supplies smashed onto the floor. I couldn’t help but stare at Dash’s cardiac monitor as her heart beat was increasing by the second!
“Rainbow Dash!” I hollered as more of the building’s debris dropped on the ground causing all of her machinery to cave her in. Sunset darted out the room to try to get some help for Dash, but the storm decided to cave her in even more.
“I can’t…..ugh….break ….ugh….free!” She grunted as she tried her best to remove the wires from her body but everytime she plugged out a wire that was connect to her arm, she her facial expression would become weaker and weaker. Suddenly, a huge debris of the building was about to crash down right on top of Rainbow Dash, but something spectacular happened in that very instant!
Rainbow Dash’s P.O.V
As the huge block of gray debris almost collapsed on top of my head, my eyes clenched up together because I felt that there was nowhere for me to go at this point! All of a sudden, the huge ice spectacles that I’ve seen hit the side of the plane, appeared once more and split completely through the huge block of cement. My eyes sparkled with relief as the icicles started forming into a human figure that looked so familiar. Her figure turns towards me with a bright genuine smile, and I knew that bright smile anywhere!
Her long white and blue hair gently flowed with the wind, her beige complexion clashed with the snowy scenery, her bright sky blue eyes scrutinized right into me, and her warm winter outfit, which contributed to a short white leopard skirt, black thick stockings, a cream turtleneck, a navy jacket, and black boots with heels. Just seeing her once again, made the corners of my mouth quirk up.
“Sorry I took so long to get here, this storm is being such a huge bully to us,” The calm soothing voice reassured me.
“Amaranthine!!! What are you doing here?”
“Here to save you and the Indian people of course!” She chirped softly before bowing. “It’s wonderful to see you again my lovely goddess. Oh, and you too Soarin.”
Soarin gently waved back as the snow and wind started to pick up more acceleration. Seeing Amaranthine once again really made my heart warm and fuzzy. She stepped closer to me, and gently picked up one of the wires that was connected to me, then pondered for a moment.
“Why are you strapped into a hospital bed?” She asked as she cocked her head to the side.
“It's a very long story, but there was a plane crash and-”
“Yes yes, I know,” She interrupted before she laid her hand on my shoulder. “I thought my ice particles stopped the plane from being destroyed.”
That's when it hit me! I was wondering where those ice particles came from! As I was trying to stop the plane, those icicles smashed right into the plane and turned it over into the Bay of Bengal. Amaranthine was trying to help us this entire time but she couldn't!
“Wait, so those icicles that made the plane circulate, that was-”
“Yup, that was me! I was trying to help, but it seems as though I made situations worse,” She let out a sigh and dropped her sword to the ground in dismay.
“Hey hey, don't put yourself down, all you did was try to help, and gladly no one died, it was just me who ended up getting a broken leg.” I shrugged my shoulders as I decided to take off more of the wires from my arms.
“It looks more than broken to me,” Amary softly replied before the snow started rushing into the room. Soarin and Sunset were both out of the room, leaving Amaranthine and myself in there alone.
“Well, let me get you out of there before you get even more sick!”
Amaranthine quickly helped me off the hospital bed but due to my surgery, my left leg was wrapped up into a cast, and of course, I completely forgot all about my condition, until I officially fell off the pain, trying hard not to squeal in pain.
“Oh gosh!” She exclaimed as she swiftly grabbed my right arm, before I started collapsing once again.
Amaranthine was simply generous enough to grab a nearby wheelchair, strap me up, and started pushing me down the hallway. Multiple of people started speeding down the hallway to find the nearest exit.
I was able to see Rarity and Twilight giving out necessities like warm blankets, hats, scarfs, and coats to the patients so they can go to their homes and stay safe before the hospital comes crashing down.
“Hurry up everyone, before the storm gets worse,” Twilight shouted as more and more people started piling out of the hospital. “According to my calculations, the storm's winds are thrusting about eighty miles per hour, so we need to get a move on!”
“You heard my girlfriend, let's go people! Stay safe in your homes.”
More people started piling out of the hospital, once the wind started howling, causing the walls to start rumbling back and forth. It felt like an earthquake started erupting and we were on the epicenter. Amaranthine quickly started speeding down the hallway to be able to make me reach my friends.
After Amaranthine helped me to reach to the door, my friends were crowding around me, asking me if I was hurt. As their sympathetic words of encouragement flooding my broken heart, pieces of the wall started crumbling over people and we could feel the strong gusts of wind, circulating the room. The cold air started making me feel drowsy, and of course Amaranthine saw this and sprung into action.
“Gemporian Heroes! I have a way to get us out of here, but you have to hold onto me-”
Pinkie Pie didn't even let Amaranthine finish her sentence. Pinkie forcefully clutched onto Amaranthine’s leg, without hesitation. As more particles started falling over us, we all held hands with Amaranthine, and once we did, a whiff of ice crystals began to spiral around us, and the next thing we knew, we were teleported~
