The Cobra Of Canterlot High
All my life, I wanted a Ford Mustang, but this is not what I had in mind. I looked down upon my rusted and ancient Mustang Boss 429 and sighed.
"At least it's a Mustang, be grateful for what you're given Platinum." Today wasn't exactly one of my good days, either. I did not think she shut would me down that hard but...I should have seen it coming. Applejack is, well was, the most cute and sporty girl a zero like me could ask for. Tomorrow night is the Fall Formal and I asked her out. All she could have said was "no" or "sorry I can't" instead, she answered with,
"Sorry but I ain't exactly lookin' for somebody to date. " At least she was honest, bluntly honest. And to make matters worse, her brother, Big Macintosh caught wind of it and verbally laid into me for "Coming onto his sister." At least Applejack didn't curse at me like other girls would usually do. Evidently, Thunder Lane asked her out right after and she fell head over heels for him, for someone who is quote unquote "terrible at lying", she played that like a movie actor. No surprise there, I was never good with women. Pulling the keys out of my pocket, I opened the door as it slowly swung open with a creak to rival the mediocre door squeak used in horror movies.
"I used 50 dollars worth of WD40 on that door and it still makes that damned noise." I whined, annoyed as I sat down in the torn and tattered drivers seat. Pushing the clutch in, I stick the keys into the ignition and turned. The old pony started up, pushing out a deadly cloud of exhaust. SMOG? Never heard of it! After I let the black plume of death dissipate, I put the car in reverse and made my way out of the student parking lot. On the way home, I saw a couple of guys in some serious rides. Chargers, Challengers, Camaros, Corvettes, Turbodiesel F-150s, A few Toyota Supras, 2 Nissan 370zs. This had street race all over it. A guy in a lift kit F-150 pulls up next to me, the strange thing was that I swore I had seen him before,
"Hey, nice ride. Rust aside, she looks mean. Wanna tag along?"
I had a full tank and my parents weren't home for the week.
Plus, I could finally put some money into getting this thing restored. My mind was made.
"Sure, I got time."
"Good, follow us." I obliged, trailing behind them until they stopped on an empty street. One of the guys in the F-150s jumped out and started lighting flares on the street. Then, he turned around the corner of the street disappearing, a few minutes later, he returned. The guy that invited me to the race called out from his truck,
"Alright guys, this is the Canterlot Circuit! Whoever takes 1st gets 60k, second gets 30k, and third gets 15k! We're starting here at Starswirl Boulevard, all the way down to 50th Avenue! You know the rules, no ramming! Now that you all are briefed, Let's do this!"
When he finishes informing us all, engines were roaring, tires were squealing from burnouts and exhausts were backfiring. Watching the street light go from red, I breathed in, closed my eyes and cleared my head. I rubbed the dashboard,
"Don't let me down baby. We can do this." Reopening my eyes, I looked up at the light and...Green. I slammed my gas pedal peeling out. I was in the lead for about a few seconds, but a 370z overtook me. We were approaching the first turn and the 370z drifted around the corner, following him, I pulled my handbrake, getting sideways. When the Mustang straightened out, I was knocked around slightly but I was still in control. The 370z was overtaken by a black Hellcat Charger and man was it fast. Almost immediately, all I could see was taillights and this was not the only person to overtake me, a burgundy Supra flew past me like a flash of light.
"C'mon Baby!" I shouted and I shifted into 6th, gradually, I pulled ahead of the Hellcat and now the Supra was getting closer to me.
"There we go darling, There we go!" I said hitting the last turn, I could see the green flare, the Supra and I were neck to neck and. Then she downshifted to try and get in and out of 5th gear. Just as I thought, she shifted back into 6th. But little did she know, muscle cars excell on the strip, or just when it comes to driving in a straight line. And inches by inches, I overtook her, I had done it, I beat her. Hello 60,000!
"YES!" I screamed. The other racers passed the green flare. The guy in the F-150 jumped out and patted me on the back. He had a muscular build, slick and shiny black hair with a cream skin tone and orange eyes.
"That was some damn fine driving, dude. What's your name bro?"
"Platinum Cobra." He held out his hand and I shook it.
"The name's Gage. Hey, don't you go to CHS?"
"Yeah."
"No way, I do also." Gage looks over at my Boss 429. She was smoking, but she pushed herself and won. Needless to say, I was proud and for the first time, I was happy to look at her. "Looks your ride ain't in driving condition, Platinum." Walking to his truck's bed, he gets a chain and hooks it up to my ride. "Lucky for you I just bought a hitch. Hop in, the prize money's in the truck with me."
"Sur-" Before I could finish my response, a guy in a yellow 370z yells,
"COPS!" Gage and I break away to to his F-150, getting inside.
"Quick, everyone get to the safehouse!" He yells, I heard sirens and the bubblegum flashes got closer to us. Gage stabbed the gas pedal and nearly tore the transmission out of the pickup. We were on our way to this "safehouse".
*Minutes Later*
We all sat in the safehouse (or warehouse to be exact) and conversed among each other,
"Ooh man, this Applejack chick sounds as cold as ice." Gage winced,
"Yeah totally. " That was Slipstream, she had a lean muscular build, royal purple hair and eyes, with an indigo skin tone. She went to CHS too and she was the girl in the Toyota Supra that I had the "photo finish" with.
"Well, now I know." Gage slaps me on the back with his big meaty hand,
"Hey cheer up man, there are way more sexy chicks out there."
"Like me." Slipstream said as she struck a pose. My eyes went as wide a dinner plate.
"Uuuum. Ain't that rushing it a tie quickly." She walked up to me and put her arms around my shoulders.
"C'mon I mean, you did need a date for the Fall Formal right? And from what I've heard, the ladies never even think about you don't they? You even beat me and there's nothing more sexier than a man in a manual muscle car." Hearing her mention my car, I looked over at my Boss 429, Gage sees my face, walks to his pickup and reaches inside, drops a small sports bag full of money and says,
"Don't sweat the ride bro, you can use the money you won for a restoration. I'll have one of my boys tow the" Big Boss" down there." I shot him a questioned look,
"Big Boss?"
"Well yeah, I mean it fits you. (Metal Gear Solid reference incoming) Since your name is Platinum Cobra, you seem like a pretty solid snake and that makes the Boss you drive the Big Boss."
"Oh thanks. For restoring my ride I mean."
"No problem Platinum. Also, if you don't mind me asking, would you like like to join us?"
"Yeah, where are we going?" Slipstream laughed and said,
"He means joining the crew." For a payout like that, I'd be stupid to turn this down.
"Definitely." Slipstream kisses my forehead,
"Cool, see you later." She turns around, hitting me in the face with her hair and walks to her car. Involuntarily, I was drawn to Slipstream's magnificent pirate's booty, she looks back at me and wiggles her eyebrows. Gage destroys the lewd thought process that was going on in my head by nudging me with an elbow.
"Like I said, sexier fishes in the sea."
"Damn, right."
"Hey, you need a ride back to your house? We could go get something to eat on the way there."
"Tacos?"
"My man, you are psychic."
And here I was thinking that I would always be a nobody...
