Twilight of the Gods

There comes a time in every bird’s life where they must leave the nest. There comes a time in every princess’s life where she must go out and explore other possibilities. None exemplify this the most like Princess Flurry Heart of the Crystal Empire who went to the farthest reaches of the world in order to learn more about this specific culture, the kirins. They were reclusive chimeras that Celestia and Luna knew from their youth. In other words, it has quite literally been hundreds of thousands of years since ponies last saw them.

Flurry Heart sat in a place at seemingly the edge of the known world itself with a kirlin that has a mane and antlers that glowed like fire in the room. In the center of the room was the scapula of an ox and an open fire.

“Okay, princess,” said Yang, “You’re going to try to predict the future.”

“Okay, here I go.” Flurry Heart levitated the scapula and slowly lowered it into the flame. Now, they wait. Yang watched the sun go down after getting bored of staring at a bone in the flames. In fact, he was ready to sleep right then and there.

“It’s cracking!” Flurry Heart yelled to wake Yang up.

“G-good,” Yang huffed, “So, what do you see? What does the bone say?”

“I see … the end of everything.”

From Canterlot Palace, old Celestia sits. Her mane has been riddled with gray streaks for seemingly eons as the rolling hills that once surrounded Canterlot were now covered with towers and roads which only a tenth of which were under mere construction the last time Flurry Heart was there. Even several of the hills and mountains around Old Canterlot have been leveled in order to expand.

This growth and prosperity was not the time for celebration. No, it was much worse. What Flurry Heart saw in her vision were a race of ghost ponies. Yes, the windigos had returned. The Princess of Knowledge looked to the skies and saw that it was between night and day. A great black wolf was swallowing the sun while a great white wolf consumed the moon. Ponies below were fighting each other in the streets over the frozen grasses they had harvested. The vision changed to the trees of Sweet Apple Acres which were being cut down and used as firewood by the Apple Family. A massive blast of energy came from the blackened sky.

The windigos shall return. The wolves will devour the sun and the moon. The world below will grow hungry. Then their hunger shall lead them to destroy themselves. Then Cosmos will be unleashed.

“Who’s Cosmos?” Flurry Heart thought to herself as she saw what was happening. Then the ground shook. The buildings illuminated by the flames fell and it was not from the rioters. It was from an earthquake. The vision jumped around from then on: the cold mountains of the dragons fell, the rivers ran red with dead sea creatures floating to the top, caverns collapsed, and finally the one that scared her the most - Cloudsdale fell from the sky.

Then the light returned, but it was not from her world. An alignment of realms, Convergence, has happened. It was at that moment that the being known as Cosmos arrived. He was an alicorn prince, something that has never been seen in Equestria before today.

Confronting him was a yellow and white-coated pegasus who Flurry Heart had no knowledge of. He pulled out a horn and with all his might, blew into it. It was a sound so great, that even the deaf heard its sorrowful music.

Leon, Celestia’s captain of the guard at this time, sounded the Horn of the Heavens, a force so great that dragons flocked to Canterlot Palace on instinct, kirins joined them, yaks joined them, deer, donkeys, and all sorts of creatures flocked to Canterlot for they knew that the end of days was near, but they weren’t going to die as cowards.

“Celestia believes her army can match mine,” Cosmos chuckled. He took in a deep breath. “Come creatures of all kinds! Bow to your master! Bow to the one worthy of ruling! We shall crush the crumbling, weak-willed Canterlot forces! A new world comes, in fire and blood, and from the ashes of their world, we will build a better one!”

A beam was fired from his horn that connected all the realms as they drifted and forced them together. Monsters from all realms - goat necromancers, yetis, manticores, and a hydra - flocked to the side of Cosmos.

But there was hope. The Elements of Harmony, Starswirl the Bearded, Radiant Hope, griffons, Scorpan, and so many more creatures who were honorable or redeemed came back from death kneeled before their current rulers. Even some creatures that flocked to Cosmos’s side had members that supported the Alliance.

The vision shifted once more to the battlefield where all of them meet. The young princess only saw the duels and smaller brawls that broke in the hills. She knew from the very first fight that no one would survive this.

Discord rode into battle with a legion of flying pigs, a quarter the pegasi that made up the royal guard, and Scorpan right into battle against Tirek who was empowered by Cosmos. All of them died in a massive explosion that lit up the sky.

Ember, using a spear forged by her ancestors in the heart of the strongest volcano, runs it through the sun-eating wolf’s heart and dousing it in her flames, but the flame of a dragon is nothing compared to the heart of a star. She is soon swallowed whole by the wolf who in turn was killed by an unexpected hero, Fluttershy. How did she defeat a being so powerful? Well, she called forth a cockitrace. It took one look, and the wolf was turned to stone. For good measure, she used the flat end of the spear lodged in his chest to smash the head to smithereens.

Celestia and Sombra were locked in a duel, destined to slay each other with crystal and fire. The vision then jumped around more: humans riding pegasi led by Rainbow Dash into battle against a cyclops, Twilight and the Founders of Equestria riding into battle against the hydra and thousands upon thousands of wendigos, Leon fighting and mutually killing Cosmos, Luna falling to Chrysalis and her maulwurf minions and three cragadiles, a third of the field being doused in poison by the hydra, and so many more battles.

But there was only one of importance.

The flaming kirin, the high khan of his or her people, fell to the floor and died. The antlers were the plucked from the creature’s head by a goat sorcerer. Drawing the chaotic energies from the battlefield, the fiery horns turn black before being plunged into the ground, consuming everything in black flames.

Grogar will fling fire in every direction. Equestria, Tartarus, the Changeling Kingdom, and Mt. Aris will become furnaces. All the realms will burn and heroes will die. The Alliance will die. Men, women, and children in the human world will die. Changelings and dragons will die. Other monsters and creatures from Death’s Domain will die. Animals will die. Plants will die. All life will cease to be. The sun will be dark and there will be no stars in the sky.

“Flurry Heart … Flurry Heart! What else do you see?” begged Yang, “Complete the reading or else your mind will be lost!”

“I see … myself, creating a whole new world from the ashes of the old... bit-by-bit, all the realms will rise again.”

Author's Note

Yeah, this is short. I wrote this after reading how cultures around the world represent what is suppose to be the end of all things. The reason why a kirlin is in this is because this was suppose to represent that this originally suppose to be the Chinese apocalypse. Yeah, I can say as an Chinese-American with an English accent that I find China's apocalypse story way less interesting than the Norse Ragnarok story. This is where I get the story from.
