“Y’all sure ‘bout this?” asked Applejack.
Rainbow Dash nodded firmly, never more sure about anything in her life. She was absolutely positive that she wanted to die. Not that she was depressed or anything. She had been expecting this, and had laid out this plan years ago, in the event that she ever severely injured herself. She didn’t even know Applejack then. All those years ago, when Rainbow Dash planned out her own death (her retirement, she liked to call it), the details of the who and the where and the how were incredibly vague. She’s since had time to think things through, which took her goal and turned it into a more solid plan.
Rainbow Dash watched as Applejack dumped chimney after chimney of hot coals into the trough of her family’s massive oven. It was ten feet by five feet, typically used for baking a large amount of pies at once during the busier times of year. But, after a few modifications to remove the roof, it became perfect for their purposes on this day.
“Want some help?” Rainbow offered. Applejack shook her head as she dumped the last bit of red-hot coals into the trough. She picked up a poker in her mouth and used it to even out the burning coals as best as she could, to ensure that the heat was consistent across the entire trough.
“I don’t want you doin’ a thing,” grunted Applejack, wiping sweat from her brow. “Yer last moments shouldn’t be spent helping me set this thing up.”
“But you’re only doing this for me. The least I can do is—”
“You sit tight and take it easy. That’s an order.” Applejack smiled a watery smile to the love of her life, a smile that Rainbow Dash matched.
“Yes, ma’am,” she said quietly. Applejack chuckled, then leaned in to give Rainbow a kiss. When the two broke apart, Applejack trotted around the oven to retrieve her cooking spit from where it lay, along with the various other tools she would need for the process. It had taken her months of searching to find one suitable for the day’s tasks. If it weren’t for Zecora and her strange zebra magick, Applejack may have never been able to find a sufficiently enchanted spit. Luckily for the two, zebras were no strangers to stranger cooking rituals and a spit that would keep the dish alive for as long as possible wasn’t beyond the realm of possibility.
“Hold on, wait a second,” said Rainbow Dash. “Shouldn’t we… Like, shave me or wax me or something?”
“Burnt hair probably ain’t too pleasant, yeah,” agreed Applejack. “Just sit tight, I’ve got some shears we use for the sheep some place. I’ll just be a minute.”
Rainbow Dash watched her wife walk away, contemplating what she was about to do. Though her plan of how she would end her life used to be very vague, the steps leading up to that were always very specific.
She needed to perform as a Wonderbolt first. That was her only real goal in life, and she decided that she would do anything to achieve it. Thankfully, she managed to prove herself as one of the greatest young fliers in Equestrian history, smashing records at an age when some of her predecessors were only getting out of flight school. She had done pretty much everything she wanted to in life. Flew with the best. Went on more than her fair-share of adventures. Became a national hero. Got the girl. Fell in love. That helped ease the pain of her injuries, from when a particularly bad crash resulted in her losing her wing and her leg being given a permanent limp. She’d never fly again. Never even run again. That’s all Rainbow Dash had. And so, with the help of the the mare she loves, Rainbow decided she would end her own life.
It took a bit to convince Applejack, but Rainbow managed to explain her situation enough that her wife came on board. It helped that Applejack knew how stubborn Rainbow Dash could be. Once she got her mind set on something, there was no deterring her. Furthermore, Applejack had known Rainbow for years. She knew how important flight was to her. So, when that was taken away, there wasn’t much left for her in life. Applejack understood and respected this, so she didn’t take it personally when Rainbow planned to leave her behind in this mortal coil.
Convincing AJ to let her go was relatively easy, when you compare it to how hard it was for Rainbow Dash to convince her to participate.
Rainbow Dash didn’t want to die normally. The very idea of an average, run-of-the-mill demise made her stomach turn. She wanted her death to be unique. Something that went down in history. Before, she imagined, perhaps even fantasized, about going hoof-to-hoof with some powerful beast, giving it a damn good fight before finally kicking the bucket. But, with only one wing and three good legs, Rainbow knew this wasn’t an option. So, she defaulted to her back-up plan, which, besides being far more unorthodox, also required a fair bit of help.
That’s where Applejack comes in. That’s what brought them both here, out behind the barn of Sweet Apple Acres. The Apple family was away, staying with cousins in Appleloosa in order to give Applejack and Rainbow the space they needed to grieve and heal. Of course, the Apples had no clue what Rainbow Dash had plans, or they surely wouldn’t have left them alone.
“C’mon, AJ,” huffed Rainbow, her bad leg trembling from pain and anticipation. She just wanted to hurry up and do this. The weight of her impending doom was the ultimate thrill to adrenaline junkie Rainbow Dash. This was it. No going back now. Not that Dash had any regrets, quite the opposite, in fact. She was looking forward to it, in more ways than one. The thought of what was coming next was causing her pussy to drool down her thighs.
“Sorry for the wait. Took me a minute to find em,” said Applejack as she returned, a pair of shears in tow. She approached Rainbow, looking her over one last time. This would be her last opportunity to see Rainbow Dash the way she wanted to remember her. Applejack let out a sigh, then kissed Rainbow on the cheek.
“You know where you want me to start?” asked Applejack. Rainbow Dash nodded. She had thought this out, too.
“Start with the legs. Do my mane and tail last,” said Rainbow Dash. Applejack nodded and, with practiced hooves, brought the shears to Rainbow’s leg. She clipped a hunk of cyan fur from Rainbow’s body, exposing a patch of pinkish flesh. The wind against Rainbow’s bare skin was odd, but exhilarating. She struggled to sit still as Applejack clipped off another patch of Rainbow’s fur. The shears were designed for sheep, who had wool that was significantly longer and thicker than the average pony’s coat, so Applejack had to move slowly in order to avoid cutting into Rainbow’s flesh. It took her approximately fifteen minutes, but Applejack eventually managed to entirely shear Rainbow’s body clean of its blue hair. Rainbow trembled for a bit, the cool breeze a bit shocking on her bare skin, but soon gave the okay for Applejack to work on her wing.
Applejack stroked Rainbow’s smooth, shiny feathers in a gentle act that brought with it pleasant memories of lazy nights in. Nights of the two snuggling in bed while Applejack preened her little Dashie before an important day of flying. Both Applejack and Rainbow relished in the normalcy of the memory even as one was being prepared to be roasted alive. But, soon enough, the tender thoughts of days past came to an end, and Applejack firmly plucked a feather from Rainbow’s wing. Rainbow winced as Applejack ripped out feather after feather, until her wing was as bare as her body. Applejack retrieved her shears and then turned her attention to the last bit of hair on Rainbow’s body.
Rainbow had always been proud of her mane. She had never seen another pony with quite as many colors. It made her unique, identifiable, and she loved it. It was difficult to see Applejack snip it off in big hunks that she let drift to the floor. Rainbow was never quite as obsessive about fashion as, say Rarity (who treated manestyles more like a religion), but even she felt it was almost a waste for all of her hair to just be brushed away. She felt her heart flutter as Applejack scooped up a rainbow-colored lock and slipped it beneath her hat.
“Just a lil something to remember you by,” muttered Applejack. She snipped off the last of Rainbow’s hair, leaving her bald and totally nude. Rainbow’s tail was the easiest bit to clear; just a quick snip at the base had the long plume of rainbow tail hair floating to the ground. Applejack picked up the cooking spit again, this time with more conviction. “I’m gonna stick ya now, okay? Zecora said it might sting a bit, but the the spell she put on it will stop it hurtin’ too much.”
“Alright. Let’s do it,” said Rainbow. Applejack brought the spit close, positioned it as close to the center of Rainbow’s chest as she could, and pushed in. The magic of the spit displaced Rainbow’s flesh without impaling her, but the process still hurt quite a bit. It felt like she had just been kicked in the chest, and the pain soon passed along her body to her torso until, finally, the spit poked out of the other end. Rainbow stumbled in pain for a moment before Applejack steadied her.
“I don’t imagine this is gonna feel too good, either,” warned Applejack. She slipped her head under Rainbow’s middle and hefted her up onto her back before carrying her over to the Apple’s modified oven. She placed the spit (and, by extension, Rainbow Dash) onto the rack above the burning coals. A light, but noticeable, heat emanated from the coals and bathed Rainbow Dash. It was almost soothing, in a way. Rainbow wanted to enjoy this gentle heat on her legs and belly while she could, because she knew that Applejack would soon have to start spinning her. It was the only way to cook Rainbow Dash evenly.
“Alright, sugarcube, I know that didn’t feel great,” sighed Applejack. “But this is gonna hurt like a sumbitch. Just giving you a heads up.”
Rainbow didn’t speak, only nodding her understanding as she bit firmly on her lip. She knew what was coming next, but that didn’t make it any easier to prepare herself for. Applejack grabbed a large steel roasting pan, which she placed directly onto the burning coals beneath Rainbow’s belly. Then, Applejack retrieved her kitchen knife from her pile of tools and carefully brought it to Rainbow’s middle. Applejack glanced up at Rainbow to make sure she was ready, then plunged the blade into her flesh.
“F-fuck,” hissed Rainbow. The zebra magick of the spit dulled the pain, but didn’t eliminate it. Rainbow felt the knife enter her skin, just as she felt the blade run from her chest down to her thigh, splitting her skin apart. She screamed a bit as she felt her insides loose themselves from her, her intestines falling into the big roasting pan that Applejack had set beneath her. Applejack was careful to slice out just the organs that weren’t necessary moving forward. She left Dash’s heart, lungs, and stomach right where they were but took anything else that may have fallen out into the pan. Applejack then took several steel pins from her pile and used them to secure Dash’s skin shut until later.
“You okay?” asked Applejack. Rainbow nodded, her head swimming at the strange emptiness she felt. That was about ten pounds of her just gone in an instant. It was strange, to say the least.
“I’m good,” panted Rainbow, tingling all over both from pain and a strange, twisted arousal. “Fuck, this is really happening.”
“I can’t believe you’re getting off on me stabbing you,” said Applejack, shaking her head. Rainbow’s masochistic tendencies had long since baffled the simple, vanilla earth pony, but she figured now was probably a pretty poor time to kink shame. “How do you want me to season you?”
“Just a bit of salt will be fine.” Despite her pain and impending demise, Rainbow managed a laugh. “I mean, this is me we’re talking about. I bet I’ll taste so awesome that I won’t even need anything!”
Applejack chuckled at that. Even with her hours numbered, Rainbow still managed to keep her ego as swelled as ever. It was actually kind of impressive. Applejack smiled at Rainbow Dash’s posturing even as she brought her hooves down into the pan of Rainbow’s innards. She crushed and squished her intestines with her hooves, pulling apart the guts until they were little more than bloody, gory bits. After taking a moment to add requisite salt to the roasting pan, she gave the stuffing a stir with a large wooden spoon and then took a seat near Rainbow’s face while it cooked.
“Holding up okay?” asked Applejack.
“AJ, the point of this is to kill me, remember?” snorted Rainbow. “I don’t think you can really fuck that up, so why don’t you calm down and try to enjoy yourself?”
“You’re right. Sorry. We ain't got much time left together. Shouldn’t spend it fretting.” Applejack pecked Rainbow on the cheek again. “It’s gonna be weird when you’re gone.”
“You think you’ll ever remarry?” asked Rainbow.
“Can’t nopony replace you, Dashie.”
“That’s not what I asked you.”
Applejack really had to sit and think for a moment before she answered. She hadn’t given much thought to what her life would be like after Rainbow Dash was gone. The two had been together for so long, as both friends and lovers, that it was hard for Applejack to picture a future without her wife by her side.
“I… I don’t know. Maybe if somepony nice comes along,” admitted Applejack. “My heart’ll always belong to you, though. Don’t you worry yourself ‘bout that. You’ll always be my mare.”
“Duh. Anypony you get with after me is gonna be a major downgrade,” laughed Rainbow. “But, you know, I don’t want you just withering away without me. You better not become a shut-in or anything like that. I want you going out and partying twice as hard as you did before. You hear me?”
“I hear you, Dash,” said Applejack, breaking into a grin. “I’ll be drinking for the both of us. You can take my word on that.”
The two chatted as Rainbow cooked, mostly reminiscing about their past. All the struggles they overcame together, all the good times they had. Their relationship hadn’t been perfect, and there were of course bad times to go with the good. Rainbow and Applejack weren’t the sort of ponies to ignore life’s hardships in favor of romanticizing the past, though, so they reminisced on their struggles as well. Their fights, their break ups. Nothing was perfect, but that was just fine by them. If anything, it strengthened their bond.
“What about the girls?” asked Applejack. “What’re we gonna tell em?”
“I already told Twilight the truth. She’s covering for us,” said Rainbow. “She’s the only one who gets it. The others would just try and stop me. She’s keeping them away and, when we’re all done, she’s gonna fake it to look like I died naturally. I’ll be buried by then, so all she really has to do is fudge some documents. Shouldn’t be hard for Bureaucrat Nerd Princess Twilight Sparkle.”
“Heh. I ‘pose so. You really did think everything out, didn’t ya?”
“Sure did. I’m not really the ‘thinks ahead’ mare, but you can only orchestrate your death once, you know?” said Rainbow. “Wanted things to go as smoothly as possible.” She sniffed the air deeply. “I think the stuffing’s ready.”
Applejack nodded, then turned Rainbow to be upside down. She removed the pins that kept her flaps of stomach skin secured and spread open the cavity that used to house Rainbow’s intestines. With her trusty wooden spoon, Applejack scooped the hot stuffing back into Rainbow Dash, wincing slightly at Rainbow’s pained grunts and hisses.
“Fuck, that burns,” panted Rainbow. “Fucking hell…” Applejack moved quickly, packing Rainbow’s mangled innards back into her body hastily before she re-secured the stomach cavity with the pins. As an added precaution, Applejack quickly knotted her middle with butcher’s twine.
“You always were good with rope. Makes me think back to our honeymoon,” said Rainbow Dash, winking slyly.
“Shut the hell up, you. You’re gonna make me blush,” said Applejack, though her cheeks were already tinged pink. She looked at Rainbow’s belly, which was an angry red from the heat. “I reckon I should start spinning you, okay?”
“Alright. Just… Don’t go too fast. I don’t wanna get dizzy.” Applejack nodded, then rigged up her mechanism. It was a simple device, a motor and a fan belt jerry-rigged to the crank handle of the spit. All Applejack had to do was set the speed and pull on the ripcord to start the thing, which she did now. The motor roared to life, letting out a plume of smoke as it slowly began turning the spit. Rainbow rotated, squeaking slightly in surprise the first few times the spit turned her upside down and her head was brought near the coals.
Applejack returned to her seat, trying to keep eye contact with Rainbow as she spun. The two just looked into each other’s eyes for a bit until Applejack remembered that there was one last step she had to take. She returned to her pile of tools set near the oven and dragged a bucket before Rainbow Dash. Inside the bucket was the results of weeks and weeks of lovemaking between the two. Rainbow, ever the squirter, had insisted that she finished into a bucket so that Applejack could save it for basting later.
Applejack did this now, using her spoon to scoop a bit of Rainbow’s love juice and pour it over the top of the pegasus’ slowly spinning, roasting body. The marecum trickled down Rainbow’s body, some of it dripping down to the coals where it sizzled and smoked. Applejack bathed Rainbow in her own juices, smirking with a touch of anticipation herself. This whole time, Applejack had been just playing along to fulfill her wife’s last wishes, but now… The idea of Rainbow cooking in her own love nectar, taking in the taste of her sexual escapades, it all was very exciting for both Rainbow and Applejack. Now, Applejack waited with anticipation more so than dread for Rainbow to cook. She knew that she had several hours ahead of her before she could even taste her wife’s flesh, but that was okay. She enjoyed being able to talk to her for the last of her time.
“Hold it right there, busters!”
Applejack and Rainbow froze, turning (or attempting to turn, in Rainbow’s case) to see the approach of the four mares that Rainbow had promised would be kept busy. Pinkie Pie led the charge, bouncing towards the two with a frown. Close behind was Rarity, frowning much like Pinkie, and Fluttershy, who seemed mostly concerned. Last in line was Twilight, who looked exceedingly nervous about what was about to unfold.
“Twilight!” growled Rainbow Dash. “You promised you’d keep them away!”
“Sorry! They squeezed the truth out of me,” said Twilight. “I’m sorry!”
“Rainbow Dash! Applejack!” Pinkie leapt forward, front flipping and landing upright on her hind hooves, pointing a forehoof accusingly in the married couple’s direction. “Just what do you think you’re doing?!”
“Listen, Pinkie,” said Applejack. “I get it. You don’t understand why Dashie would want something like this. That’s alright, I didn’t get it myself either. But please, try to understand—”
“Oh, I understand just fine!” said Pinkie. “You think you can just go and roast our Dashie and not share!”
“Uh… What?” Rainbow, Applejack, and even Twilight voiced their confusion in perfect unison. Pinkie fell forward onto her belly, then rolled onto her back to get a better look of Rainbow as she cooked.
“When we found out what you were doing, we were aghast that you didn’t think to invite us,” said Rarity, taking a seat beside Pinkie. “I was under the impression that we were all friends here. If I was roasting Pinkie, I would certainly offer you some.”
“But you’re not really gonnna roast me, are you Rare-bear?”
“Of course not, darling, that was just a hypothetical.” Rarity leaned in and kissed Pinkie on the forehead. “If I wanted to eat you, I’d blend you up and drink you like a milkshake.”
“With extra whipped cream?”
“Why, it’s the only way to properly enjoy you, my sweet.”
“Um… I… I wanna be here, too,” said Fluttershy. “Rainbow Dash is my oldest friend. I… I wanna be here to support her during her last moments…”
“Y’all okay with this?” asked Applejack. The girls nodded and hummed their affirmation. “Huh. Okay, then, I guess. I probably wouldn’t have been able to finish her all in one sitting, anyway. Y’all would be a might helpful in dealing with leftovers. But… It ain’t my decision. It’s up to Rainbow.” The mares in attendance looked up to Rainbow Dash, still spinning on her spit and roasting in her own marecum.
“Well… I guess it’s okay,” said Rainbow Dash. “As long as you guys understand and don’t try to stop me, I guess you can stay.”
“Yay!” squealed Pinkie. “We get to stay for Sunday Dinner!” She turned to look away from the girls, as if staring down some sort of camera. “Roll credits!”
The hours spent cooking Rainbow were long, but they were helped along by good company. The six girls shared a close bond, one that couldn’t be broken even by the act of cooking one of their members alive. At some point during the cooking, Applejack handed the spoon and bucket of marecum off to Fluttershy, while Applejack left for a quick grocery run. She returned with plates, chips, and, most importantly, a case of cold, hard cider. She passed out drinks, popping one open for Rainbow Dash (which Twilight helped her drink with her magic).
It was a good time, all things considered. Were it not for what they were actually roasting, it’d be easy for any or all of them to forget that they weren’t at a typical Apple family cookout. They all worked together, taking turns basting Rainbow in order to keep her moist and tender. As the hours went along, Rainbow began browning nicely, her flesh bubbling and crisping as the fat literally melted from her body. Rainbow was always a lean mare with a very quick metabolism, so this slow roasting was a necessity to avoid her meat becoming dry and tough. Luckily, by hour nineteen of cooking, a quick poke to the haunch confirmed that Rainbow’s flesh was as soft and tender as possible. Applejack stopped the motor, then, with the help of Twilight and Rarity’s magic, hoisted Rainbow up and onto a large serving platter. Then, it was time to carve.
“The way I see it,” said Applejack as she hacked off a hunk of Rainbow’s juicy, tender flank. “Dashie should get first taste.” The others chided in their agreement, and the decision was finalized when Applejack plated the first slab of succulent Rainbow Dash and brought it to the mare herself. Rainbow struggled to open her mouth, the roasted skin crispy and dry, but she managed to take a nibble of herself. Her meat was incredibly tender, almost melting into velvety sweetness on her tongue.
“Whoa,” croaked Rainbow, her torched throat relying entirely on the magic of the spit to keep her able to speak. “I taste awesome.”
The girls shared a laugh, and Applejack began serving the rest of the girls. Rainbow was fairly small, so it wasn’t especially difficult to clean her bones of meat among the five hungry ponies. They chatted as they ate, enjoying the almost buttery taste of Rainbow Dash’s meat. Her skin was crispy and delicious, not unlike pork crackling. Applejack claimed the wing, where the meat was slightly more gamey, but also sweeter and more tasty. At some point, Pinkie leapt forward and pulled Rainbow’s leg clean from her body body and gnawed on the bone like a hungry dog.
Rainbow Dash died about halfway through the meal, so quietly that her friends didn’t even notice. They paused, of course, to pay respects to their friend, but soon resumed their meal. That was the point, after all. Rainbow didn’t want her friends to be sad for her passing, nor did she want her death to be for nothing. She wanted her end to bring something, and it did. It brought levity and good memories.
And, most importantly, it brought forth Sunday dinner.
