Twilight's Curiosity
Twilight Sparkle, Princess of Friendship, looked down upon the stallion who had stood proud and strong before her a moment before. She shook her head in confusion as she saw him just slump to the ground unconscious.
She frowned in thought as she observed his form from the top of the hill and she voiced one thought in particular that was bugging her,"What the hay just happened?!"
Pinkie's hair was at about half of its normal poofiness as she looked down at the unconscious stallion nervously,"I don't know Twilight. But that was really scary even for me and that's saying something."
Twilight nodded absently at her friend's response to lost in her own thoughts at the moment. Her horn glowed its brilliant magenta as it pulled a notepad and quill from her saddlebags. She started down the hill as she turned her head to Pinkie Pie for a moment,"I don't think he or it or whatever it is can hurt us right now. It should be safer to get closer for the moment."
"Are you sure Twilight? I mean its all icky and gross and smells bad!" Pinkie's nose scrunching up as the offending odor of blood and death penetrating her nostrils. She stayed up at the top of the hill for the moment looking ready to go get help at a moment's notice.
Twilight had to scrunch up her own nose at the smell as she got closer and replied firmly,"Yes Pinkie. I'm sure it's safe to get closer for the moment."
Her horn glowed as she concentrated on a spell that would hopefully cancel out the smell near her for the moment. With a small flash of light from her horn, the spell triggered and a small breeze carried the scent away from her so she wouldn't have to smell it. Bringing her notepad and quill beside her, she trotted closer to the unconcious being before stopping right next to him.
Pinkie observed Twilight and the being for a moment and when nothing happened moved down to stand beside Twilight,"I guess your right Twilight. He's out cold."
"Of course it's out cold. It used a massive amount of magic during that fight that it must have suffered magical backlash and exhaustion." Her quill making a note of it on her pad as she moved even closer to the being.
"Pinkie I'm going to need you to remain quiet while I study it. Its going to require concentration and quiet for me to learn everything I can about this creature." Twilight quietly said.
"Okie Dokie Lokie,"Pinkie replied a little more cheerfully as a bit of her mane's poofiness returned,"I'm going to go get someone to come help." With that she dashed off before Twilight could make a reply or try to stop her. All she left behind was a cloud of dust shaped like her that looked like it was waving. Then the cloud dissipated leaving behind a befuddled Twilight.
Twilight stared at the cloud for a few seconds while saying,"What?" She shook her head and sternly told herself,"No don't think about it. Its not important." And with that she went back to looking at the unconscious being.
Going into full Twilight research mode she started to dictate to herself as she observed it. "Subject appears to be a unicorn pony wearing some sort of strange armor I've never seen before. I will now perform a spell to determine if the subject is indeed a unicorn."
Her horn glowed magenta yet again as she focused on the spell she wanted to cast setting the matrixes into place in her head. Firing off the spell, a soft glow enveloped the unconscious figure as her spell scanned it. It fed the information right back into her head through her horn as she continued her dictation with a surprised tone in her voice,"Subject is indeed a unicorn but with a strong magical field around him unlike anything I've ever seen before. I will observe the magical field in a moment after I determine what type of metal the armor is made of."
Reaching out with a hoof, she touched the cold black armor on of the spots not covered in the now dry green ichor. Concentrating on another spell designed to analyze the armor, she cast it on the armor. Only the armor itself this time was scanned and a lot of information was relayed to Twilight.
Continuing her dictation in a curious voice,"The armor appears to be composed of some kind of alloy unknown to ponykind. Its nothing like the iron or steel tools we can make for ourselves. According to my findings the armor's alloy is twenty times stronger than steel and 10 times as light which is why the stallion can wear it so easily. The armor also appears to have its own magical field separate yet connected to the stallion's magical field."
She cast yet another analyzing spell on the armor as beads of sweat appeared on her forehead due to all the magic she had been using. This spell ended up scanning the magical field of the armor.
Awe entering her voice she continued,"The magical field is designed to make this armor accessible to the wearer by constantly feeding a steady flow of magic from the user's mana pools to a sort of pocket dimension of some sort. At least it appears to be some sort of pocket dimension but there has to be more to it."
Fear entered her voice mixing with the awe,"There also appears to be some sort of intelligence to the armor. As if a soul of some kind is trapped in it yet is content to be there instead of trying to get out. I'm also detecting necromantic magic of some sort."
Continuing to concentrate on the scanning spell while dictating her horn ended up with a thin layer of overglow,"It would appear that this necromantic magic is not harmful to the user or corruptive like normal necromancy magic would be. The question is how is that possible?"
By this time Pinkie had returned with another pony to come help with the stallion but they couldn't get to close at the moment because of Twilight. Pinkie had been trying to get Twilight's attention for the past 10 minutes with all sorts of things including a pair of symbols. However nothing was breaking Twilight's concentration.
Pinkie turned to the friend she had brought with her observing a beautiful white unicorn with a gorgeously styled purple mane,"I can't get through to her Rarity. What do we do?"
The aforementioned Rarity replied calmly,"We should let her be for the moment darling. I don't fancy getting between her and her studies at the moment."
Pinkie frowned,"But what if something bad happens?"
Rarity replied,"Pish Posh darling. Twilight knows how to handle herself in magical situations. She will be fine."
With that the two of them went quiet again as they watched Twilight go about her research with the unconscious stallion. An hour had passed since the research had begun and the sun was high in the sky.
Twilight had hit a dead end trying to analyze the magical field of the armor. And it frustrated her to know end as her need for knowledge pressed down upon her. Her quill had been inscribing her notes frantically onto the notepad and had almost filled the whole thing up by now. Twilight had already levitated a second notepad out of her saddlebags as she turned to scanning the unicorn's magical field.
After casting yet another scanning spell she continued her dictation,"The subject appear's to have abnormally sized mana pools which are still being drained at the moment to maintain the armor. They are almost completely drained even the the subject himself is not casting any magic or spell. It seems to be a passive spell of some sort that is attached to the armor after the initial casting. Subject appears to have suffered magical burnout due to the initial casting."
Realizing that the stallion was in danger a frantic note entered her voice,"I will be attempting to cut off the magical flow so the subject does not die." She cast one more spell using an invasive spell to enter the mana stream and attempting to cut off the flow of magic entirely. However the magical flow fought back and her horn gained a tremendous overglow as she fought against it.
Rarity watched Twilight continue with her research before noticing the overglow and the intense effort and concentration she was pouring into a spell. She frowned when she realized it was draining Twilight considerably and she might suffer magical burnout as a result.
Calmly speaking to Pinkie she said,"Stay here darling. I have to help Twilight with a matter." She trotted forwards over to Twilight and stood beside the struggling unicorn. Her horn glowing a brilliant white she added her own mana pool to Twilight's after synchronizing with her. With the additional magic Twilight should be able to safely use her spell.
Sweat was running down Twilight's face now getting into her eyes as she continued with her spell. She was close to suffering burnout when she felt another source of magic link with her own and knew another unicorn was helping her. With the additional magic she put more mana into her spell and successfully cut off the unicorn stallion's mana flow.
With a flash of light, the armor and mask disappeared leaving behind the unconscious unicorn stallion. Twilight panted in exhaustion as the sweat beaded at the tip of her muzzle before falling onto the ground. Sweat was running down her whole body after such an intense effort and even Rarity who had helped only for a little bit was sweating a bit herself.
Twilight turned to Rarity and between pants gratefully said,"Thank you for the help Rarity. Without you I might have been in big trouble."
Replying a little out of breath Rarity said,"Think nothing of it Darling. That's what friends are for."
Twilight nodded after panting again and then looked back at the now unconscious stallion. What she saw was a ice blue unicorn with a frosty mane with sweat rolling down his body as he shook with cold.
"We need to get him to the castle for now. I don't think taking him to the hospital right now would be a good idea."
Her fellow unicorn sighed but relented,"If that's what you think is best Twilight." With that she waved Pinkie Pie over while saying,"Pinkie dear. We need you to help carry this poor stallion to the castle where Twilight can look after him."
Pinkie bounced her way over with a,"Okie Dokie." Rarity then carefully levitated the unconscious stallion onto Pinkie's back only then noticing the strange device and the satchel that was laying on the ground nearby. "Twilight please get the satchel. And after we get back to the castle you might want to look at this thing on his foreleg."
Twilight nodded and enveloped the satchel with her magic only to yelp,"ouch." and step back as the satchel flashed for a moment. After the glowing of the satchel disappeared she frowned and enveloped the satchel in her magic again only to get no reaction this time. Curious about what could have happened she brought the satchel over to her and looked inside.
Just as she peered inside one of the blank chips gained an image of her face smiling happily back at the onlooker. And titled underneath the picture in small hoof writing was,"Twilight Sparkle, Warrior of magic."
She frowned only seeing the blank SD cards and the one bearing her picture. She shrugged deciding to study the satchel and its contents more later and turned back to Rarity and Pinkie Pie still shaking a bit from exhaustion. "Come on girls, let's go."
With that she led them into the distance towards her castle as the girl's replied an affirmative to her.
Once at the castle Rarity carefully levitated the still unconscious stallion onto a bed in one of the guest rooms. Turning to Twilight with concern in her voice she asked,"Twilight just how long will the poor thing be unconscious?"
Twilight sighed as she turned to Rarity and replied,"I don't know Rarity. It could be anywhere from another couple of hours to even a couple of days. I hope he'll be okay but I can't say for sure until he wakes up."
Rarity nodded and gracefully turned to the door and walked towards it as she called back,"I have to get back to my shop. I have orders to fill. I'll be by later to check up on you and the poor dear."
Pinkie bounded to stand by Rarity as she spoke up in a much happier voice with most of her mane back to how it should be,"I have to get back to the Cakes. They need me to watch the twins for a couple of hours. Then I'll stop by to see how you are doing Twilight."
Twilight nodded to them both with a small smile gracing her muzzle,"Thanks you two. I couldn't have done this without you." She gave them a small wave goodbye as they waved too. They left after that without saying another word to her as they talked among themselves about the mysterious stallion.
Ten minutes after her friend's left Twilight turned back to the stallion with a frown as her curiosity grew yet again. She levitated a fresh notepad to herself as she decided to continue her magical research. The quill hovering beside the pad with a bottle of ink. She fired off a low powered scanning spell which would give her basic information and with that she continued her research.
"The subject's magical field has no taint from any necromantic magic at all. It seems that the subject's magical field exudes a type of magic I've never seen before that overrides the corrupting influence of the necromancy magic he used. So he can safely use it without becoming evil." The spell winked out as he magic she fed to it was cut off and she turned to look at the satchel.
"The subject has a satchel of some sort filled with some kind of small blank mechanical objects. One of these small objects has somehow obtained an image of me and i can feel my magic pulsing through it and oddly enough it feels like a bit of my soul has become lodged in the object. My magic can't pull the piece of my soul back into me and resists all attempts when I try it. I theorize that it obtained the piece of my soul when my magic touched it the first time."
Turning back to the stallion and his foreleg with her curiosity burning bright with even more questions as some of her unasked question's were answered she continued in her research mode.
"The subject has some sort of mechanical device on his leg that cannot be removed by magic or with just my hooves. The device appear's to have a screen of some sort that my hoof and magic slide's across easily. There are 6 slots to the side of the screen arranged in a circle. One of the slots appears to be occupied by one of the small mechanical devices from the satchel."
Reaching out with her telekinetic magic she tugged on the device within the slot but it refused to budge. She tugged a bit harder and then experienced a harder shock then the time she'd picked up the satchel. Reaching up with a hoof, she rubbed her horn and muttered,"The small object refuses to come out so I will have to move on. Within the circle of slots there are three buttons all different colors. The middle button is green while the button to the left is red and the one on the right is black."
She frowned and pressed on the red button with her magic and with a click it pressed down. There was yet another click and then the SD card in the device popped up halfway. She then tugged on the card and pulled it out of the machine the rest of the way and held it before her. It bore the image of a creature she had never seen before.
"I have managed to pull the small device out of the bigger device by pressing the red button on the bigger device. This small device bears the image of some kind of creature I've never seen before. I'll have to do some additional research to see if I can determine what kind of creature it is. My scanning spell reveal's that what seemed like a soul in the armor is definitely a soul after all. And that soul is stored in this small device of some kind. I'm getting a feeling of contentment from the soul so its not unhappy or displeased to be in the device. But that just bear's the question how did it get in here and how did a piece of my own soul get stuck in the other device."
She set the SD card chip down into the satchel and frowned as she got up off her seat and sighed as she finished her research for now. It would be best for her to go find spike and ask him to stash her notes away for now. She decided she'd also ask him to cook a meal for herself and maybe the stallion when he woke up. With that she trotted out of the room.
Unknowingly for her it was right at that moment when the stallion's body twitched and his eyes opened slightly as he let out a small groan. Hos eyes closed again and he slipped back into a restful sleep this time.
The SD card with the image of BlackWarGreymon glowed a bit as the soul residing within said audibly,"Hmm well this will be interesting. I wonder what the other's will think when they appear." And it went silent as the glow on the card subsided.
Meanwhile 3 more of the SD cards glowed as magic filled the and images started to appear on each of them.
