The Wedding of Loyal Kindness
Nervous?
Load Full StoryNext ChapterRainbow Dash paced nervously around her cloud home, mumbling softly to herself. Twilight, who was sitting on the nearby couch, had just about had enough of Rainbow's useless panicking,"Alright Rainbow, you've been at this for half an hour, you've still got until tomorrow to prepare for this, but pacing around your living room isn't going to help." Twilight said while rolling her eyes.
"Oh please! You're the one to talk?! You pace and freak out over stupid tests! This is an entirely different ball game! What if she isn't ready? Or rejects me?! Or dumpsme because she realizes that I'm not good enough for her!" Rainbow yelled, trying to hold back tears that were threatening to escape her eyes. After a moment, Twilight's surprise wore off as the princess began to laugh, making the pegasi's eyes widen,"Are you laughing at me!?" She yelled.
"Oh, I'm sorry Rainbow," Twilight giggled, finally calming herself down,"It's just, you of all ponies should know that Fluttershy would never leave you, especially just because you proposed to her! Worst case scenario, she tells you she isn't ready for marriage, but she won't 'dump' you!" After comprehending her friend's words, Rainbow began to calm down.
"Yeah, you're right. How do you always have the best advice?" Rainbow asked, making the alicorn once again giggle.
"Because I went through the same thing with Pinkie." Twilight giggled, thinking about the day she had proposed to Pinkie and their wedding day, the memories made me her smile.
"You did?" Rainbow asked, intrigued to hear her friend's experience, hoping that it would help ease her conscious.
"Yep," Twilight responded, using her magic to lift the golden wedding ring and band that was held around her neck by a silver chain,"The day I proposed to her, I was just as nervous as you are now, I paced around the castle for nearly an hour, but Starlight told me exactly what I just told you. That Pinkie would never leave me for asking that question, that if she just wasn't ready for marriage, she would tell me so. Luckily for me though, she was ready, and we were married three months later, and have been happy ever since." As she reminisced, a few tears of joy rolled down the alicorn's cheek before she wiped them away with her hoof," Sorry. Anyway, the point is, you don't have any reason to be nervous! Just go for it, and I'm sure you'll get a happy outcome."
"Thanks, Twilight," Rainbow said as she walked over to the princess and hugged her,"You're a great friend." She added before looking at the clock on her wall,"Crap! Our date starts in five minutes! I'm supposed to pick her up at her cottage!"
Twilight giggled,"Well you better get flying then! I need to get back to the castle before Pinkie gets worried, you know how that pony is," Twilight said as the two left the cloud mansion,"Good luck Rainbow Dash!" Twilight said as she took her the small, velvet box from Rainbow's saddle bag and placed it in the pegasi's coat pocket. Rainbow smiled before taking off in flight, leaving a rainbow trail behind her. Smiling, the princess flew down to the ground and began to trot home, only to be tackled by a familiar pink earth pony.
"Hey, Twily! There you are! I've been searching all over!" Pinkie exclaimed, before letting out a giggle as Twilight placed a kiss on her wife's cheek.
"Just giving Rainbow a pep talk, she's preparing to pop the question to Fluttershy today." Twilight explained, making Pinkie gasp.
"REALLY!? We gotta prepare an engagement party!"
"We don't even know if she'll accept Pinkie."
"Twilight, they have been dating for three years, I have a feeling she will accept. Now come on!!" Pinkie ran down the road as fast as her legs would carry her, while Twilight only rolled her eyes and laughed as she followed her wife back to the castle.
Rainbow had been standing in front of Fluttershy's door for nearly three minutes, silently giving herself a final pep talk as she worked up the courage to knock on the door. After about another minute, she raised her hoof, and lightly tapped the door a few times,"Just a second!" A soft and familiar voice called almost instantly, and seconds later, hoofsteps approached the door and it opened. Rainbow instantly went slack-jawed,"Hey Dashie! Do I look okay?" The pegasus was wearing a plain deep-blue dress that was made of silk. It had a small train that just barely touched the ground but was long enough to hide her tail. The gown was lined with silver sequins and was topped off with golden earrings and one of Rainbow's feathers, that was weaved into her mane, which was braided over her shoulder.
"Wow Flutters, you look amazing!" Rainbow complimented, making the pegasus blush.
"Thanks, you look great too," Fluttershy replied. Rainbow herself was wearing a simple black tux, and her mane was just in its normal style,"So what do you have planned that needs us to dress up?"
"Oh, you'll see," Rainbow replied with a giggle, before offering her hoof to Fluttershy, who gladly accepted with a small laugh, as the couple slowly took off in flight to a location only known to Rainbow Dash.
"Alright Fluttershy, close your eyes," Rainbow said suddenly as they approached their destination.
"But what if I fly into something? I don't wanna get hurt and ruin our date!" Fluttershy said, her eyes wide with fear.
"Just keep ahold of my hoof, I'll guide you and make sure you don't get hurt."
"Promise?"
"Of course! Don't you trust me?" Rainbow gave Fluttershy a slightly concerned look.
"Yes, of course, I do." The yellow pegasus responded, before closing her eyes with a small smile as she took Rainbow'so hood, letting her guide her the rest of the way.
"Can I open them yet?" Fluttershy asked after a few minutes.
"Not yet," Rainbow replied as she landed in front of the date she had set up, with the help of Rarity,"Okay...now!" After slowly opening her eyes, before letting out a gasp of surprise, a large smile forming on her face.
"Oh Rainbow, this is beautiful!" Rainbow had taken her to a hillside just outside of town, where both Rarity and herself had set up a romantic, candlelit picnic under a tree that was on top of a hill that overlooked Ponyville, and also had an amazing view of the upcoming sunset.
"Glad you like it, I figured a nice picnic in nature would be your cup of tea, and give us a bit of privacy," Rainbow said with a small smirk as she wrapped a wing around her pegasus, and kissed her neck for a few seconds, making Fluttershy blush a deep red and begin to laugh.
"Rainbow! S-stop it!" She giggled, quickly wiggling free of Rainbow's grasp and flying over to the picnic blanket and sitting down. Rainbow herself blushed a little as she joined her fillyfriend.
The date went beautifully, by the time the two had finished eating, the sun had pretty much set, and Rainbow had pulled Fluttershy against her, and the two were snuggling under the tree, only carrying a light conversation on the side that was mostly Rainbow flirting, in an attempt to set the perfect mood,"This was really nice Rainbow," Fluttershy commented after a small set of silence,"It's been a while since we've just laid around and watched the stars together."
"Well, your eyes shine more beautifully than any star I've seen up there tonight so I just haven't seen a point too," Rainbow replied, bringing a blush to Fluttershy's cheeks.
"What did I ever do to deserve you Dashie?"
"I could ask you the same thing," Rainbow responded, shifting slightly nervously, biting her lip as she felt the box move in her coat pocket, she was running out of time to ask her, but she was just so scared, even though she didn't really have a reason to be. Rainbow just didn't take rejection well, and the small thought of that happening shot her brain every time she thought she was ready to ask,"You know I love you, right?" Rainbow asked suddenly, sitting up. What was she doing? It was like she couldn't control herself. She just had to ask her, and she had to do it right then and there! No matter what her brain told her.
"Of course I do, why would you question that?" Fluttershy asked, looking at her marefriend, confusion lighting up her face more than the stars were. Man, her eyes did sparkle like the stars. Rainbow smiled at the thought.
"I'm not, it's just that...I love you, more than anything or, anypony else in the world, and no matter what happens I want to be there for you to take care of you, and love you for the rest of our days," The words were pouring out of Rainbow Dash like water flowing from a broken faucet,"Fluttershy, you're the reason that I wake up every morning, you are the reason that I actually try to make something of myself, you make me feel like I have a purpose in this world, like my exsistence means something."
"Rainbow..." Fluttershy breathed, tearing up, was Rainbow going to do what she was thinking she was going to do?
"Fluttershy, I want to spend the rest of my life with you," Rainbow used her wing and reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a small velvet box.
"Rainbow, are you..." Fluttershy suddenly lost her voice.
"Will you marry me?" Rainbow asked, opening the box, revealing a pure silver ring, with two small diamonds on it, one was blue, the other pink. A silver chain was going through the ring. Tears were streaming down both pegasi's cheeks at this point, and all Fluttershy could do, was give a nod.
"Y...Yes! Of course I will!" She blurted, tackling Rainbow in a hug, before puling her into a passionate kiss, which the other gladly returned. When they pulled away for air, Rainbow pulled the ring out of the box and placed the necklace around her neck,"Best day of my life." Fluttershy whispered, before the two fell into another kiss.
