The Past Life of Lyra
The Guild
Load Full StoryPonyville had dawned and ponies were already exiting their homes to go to work. Fillies and colts were headed to school and some ponies had some time off, lucky them, right? Two best friends decided to take the day off and tell each other a few secrets the other had yet to know about. This had all started in Bon Bon's place.
"Alright, Lyra, I told you my secret identity. Now you tell me yours," Bon Bon said, eagerly awaiting her response, "Remember our deal."
I sighed, "I... don't think you should know about my secret past-"
"Secret past!?" Bon Bon shouted in excitement.
I hushed her immediately, quieting Bon Bon onto her rump, "Alright, tell me," Bon Bon began, "What is this 'secret past' you got. Is it about your childhood? Did you have a bad one? Or is it about," She looked around, trying to find anypony in sight, "Your love life?" She teased sultry-like.
"Oh shut it, Bon Bon," I playfully shoved my friend, "Besides, it's not that. It's...," I paused, "Remember The Murders of 2015?"
"Well, duh! Everypony saw it on papers everywhere! Wait... you are the scientist that helped the murder kill the other scientists?!" She gasped, "No w-"
"No, Bon Bon, listen! I wasn't the scientist that helped assassinate those scientists."
"Assassinate? So it wasn't a murderer?" She questioned, "Hold on, how did you know it was an assassin that killed the scientists?"
Silence filled the Bon Bon's small abode, "Because," I paused, "I killed them."
Bon Bon, seven seconds late of responding, began to bounce around her home energetically after hearing that her friend was the murderer of some famous scientists. I, however, stayed idle and watched my friend wreak havoc in her own interior. In my surprise, Bon Bon wasn't screaming or even bolting out of the room - she was just overjoyed somehow.
"Aren't you even terrified that you found out that I murdered some of the most well-known ponies?" Lyra asked, genuinely anxious.
Bon Bon had finally ceased her joyful hops and skips, "Nope. In fact, I'm actually amazed, surprised and... well a bit confused."
Lyra raised a brow, "Amazed, surprised and confused? Okay, I'm more interested in the 'confused' part than anything else but do explain."
"Alright. I'm amazed because you are an assassin! I mean, that's so cool! Surprised, because you actually managed to hide your identity when so many guards were searching for you. And finally, I'm confused of why you caused those murders. Heck, I don't even know if you're telling the truth. Better go to Applejack-"
"No!" Lyra yelled thoughtlessly.
"Hey, come on, it was a joke, and I promise to not to tell anypony - unless they interrogate me." She chuckled.
"Bon Bon.."
"Just another joke, Lyra. Don't take everything so literally." Bon Bon playfully punched her shoulder, "But if this is true, you've got to tell me the whole thing."
"The whole story?" She asked rhetorically, "It's pretty long though and we'd probably pass several days for the story to be finished."
"Alright fine, just the ins and outs. Is that fine by you? I'm really invested in your life story now." Bon Bon laid down on the wooden boards, hooves under her chin.
Lyra hesitated, "Ah.. alright," She paused, reminiscing about her first time joining the guild, "It all began in a small cottage in Canterlot."
"Welcome, Lyra Heartstrings, we were expecting you to come," A mysterious voice spoke from the darkness, "We sense that you want to join our guild.
"Really?" I asked, "There was seriously a letter in my box saying, Lyra Heartstrings, go to the cottage in 132 Lavender St. in Canterlot. We will be meeting you there. and your signature was just a blob, not an actual signature."
The voice sighed in defeat, "Well, we weren't very good at letters," He came out from the darkness revealing a tall, chocolate-brown stallion with a dark robe, "We just know how to assassinate those we believe who deceive other ponies."
More ponies came out before me. A short, thistle mare with a white robe stood out, an average-height dark orange stallion accompanied with an ochre red robe and finally, a young, yellow filly (probably the age of 13) crept out of the darkness with a navy blue robe.
"I'm Dusk Night, the 27th leader of this whole guild," the brown stallion introduced himself with a deep voice, "That mare over there is Widow's Peak, master at potions and poisons."
"I'm Dusty Hooves, best at weaponry and this little gal is-"
"Spring Bloom, distractions are my strong suits." The little filly announced proudly.
"If you need us," Dusk resumed, "Just call upon the holy bird in the sky, name's Owlowiscious. We usually attack at night so it makes sense."
"Speaking of attacking," I tagged them on, "I'd like to attack a few famous scientists. You game?"
"We have to train you first."
"Wait, what?" I began, "Train!? I know nothing about murdering other ponies! You're never going to train me in time. Can't you just kill them yourselves? That's what you're known for, right?"
Dusk laughed, "No, no, we do contracts for other ponies but this time, from all the experience we've got, we know we can make you into an assassin. And known for killing? Definitely not! No ponies have documented us nor have been suspicious of our doings. They rarely even get to see us because we're too busy hiding in the shadows."
"Oh no."
"Alright, first we have to start off with how to use a weapon. Your magic could have many possibilities but this weapon will assure that you'll have silent, quick kills. I've named it The Silent Stab but everypony else calls it the Hidden Knife. You can choose what to call it, I don't care much but how you use it is simple," Dusty explained, "It uses a simple mechanism; bend your hoof to the right and outwards to open, and left and inwards to close. If don't incorrectly, like in a chase, you could break the blade or stab yourself. And please don't ask how I made it. It took me a very long time to plan, create and.. you know the rest."
I had a try of the mechanism and I began to poke childishly at a filled sack.
"Alrighty, here's another weapon you'll need to defend yourself when you're in trouble," He took out a shiny sword from his workbench, "Just plop this into your sheathe and bring it out using your magic. You'll blade will be tested with Dusk. And finally," Dust handed a small, rectangular pack to me," There's your knifes. You can throw them, stab deceivers with them, do whatever but DO NOT use them against the common folk. DO NOT use any other weapons against them. You hear?"
I nodded swiftly, thinking that he'd bite my whole head off.
"Alrighty, now go on to Widow, she'll tell you all about potions. Oh yes, and take this."
He threw to me a turquoise robe, "Thanks," I paused, "For doing this."
"Don't mention it," He waved a hoof, "Now go see the potions master."
I trotted sluggishly to the next room, seeing the little, yellow filly train on a nearly chopped-up sack of powder. My focus broke when I cantered into Widow, spilling the contents of a caramel-coloured potion.
"Oh Celestia, sorry, Widow, I didn't mean to mess up your potion or poison mi-" My apology was interrupted by a cute chuckle from Widow's Peak.
"Don't worry, Lyra. That was just tea - I can make more. I don't make potions all the time. It's my strongest but it's not my lifetime job."
"Haha," I laughed sarcastically, "You know, I thought you'd be really mean. You know, since you're all assassins and you kill ponies and-"
"Yea, we get that a lot when someone enters the room. They often throw to us a letter, we decide whether it's worthy of a good kills and then we execute the job. However, when we're all here, we're all technically family. You see, all of us have a bad past. My husband got tortured by a great leader until I joined the guild and we teamed to kill him. Dusty Hooves's is pretty dark. His whole family died in a blaze set by none other than Struck Flare and his left back hoof got burned off until he forged a hoof himself. Dusk Night's is pretty bad too. When he was a poor, young colt, he got foal-napped and got taken away to a factory. We never found out why he was needed, there was way more fortunate foals but he was special, in a way. He heard from the foal-nappers that they were going to extract something from him, something about colour. Anyways, when they stopped from being ransacked from bandits, Dusk attempted an escape, ended up here in Canterlot and has been living here ever since."
"And the young filly?" I asked, awaiting a short story.
"Oh, we don't know her story. She was actually delivered to us, don't know how or why. We saw the note left. It just said, Take care of our little Spring Bloom. Please. They probably thought this cottage was an orphanage." Widow shrugged, beginning to make her way to her room, "Anyways, about potions.."
It had taken around thrity minutes to a full hour for Widow to explain the arts of potion brewing. In a few minutes, I managed to mix up a paralysis poison - made from water, a pinch of electrabuzz dust, a drop of honey and finally a speck of lead. After I hugged a 'see you soon' to Widow, I decided to pay a visit to Spring Bloom.
"Hi Spring!" I said excitedly, "Can you teach me a little something?"
The young filly was silent until I heard her breathe slowly, "Yep!" She spun herself, revealing a joyful pony, "I can teach you all about how to use your weapons!"
"Hang on, I thought your mastery was distractions."
"Well, yea, but how do you think I made those distractions?" I shrugged childishly, "I make swift attacks, enough to make me hidden in the shadows again, and for the rest of the guild to move up in positions."
"Ah, right," I fit the pieces together, "So how'll we start?"
"Begin by using your long-blade. Attack this one," She gestured at a sack with a wooden armour - helmet, chest-plate, gauntlets and all - also accompanied by a makeshift sword, "I want to test your forehoof first."
"Alright." I unsheathed my blade and sliced at the dummy before me.
I looked back at my tutor and she said, "Go on, I won't stop you. Just go until I say 'stop'."
And so I did. I slashed violently at the test dummy, I swung my blade across its head, I stabbed through its weak armour causing it to break and finally, I finished by dropping my sword and releasing my hidden knife for a stab to the throat. I couldn't believe myself. It felt like something inside me knew what to do.
My thoughts were once again broken my the sound of hooves clopping together, "Well done, Ms. Heartstrings. You did better than me, but you'll have to keep practising. New moves, new opponents, new attacks, new defences, you're going to have to learn them all. Otherwise, you did good for your first try, especially that throat jab - that was divine to look upon."
My breathing slowed as I caught the admiration of the filly, "Thanks, Spring Bloom. I'll keep on practising."
"It'll take a long time though, like weeks or months, maybe even years! You up for it?"
"Definitely."
Seven hours, I was in that room, slashing at the test dummies, attempting new moves to take on my foes. My hidden knife was stabbing sack-by-sack, thinking I was actually stabbing my hated scientists. My proof of humans existing was true. I had built the portal to their realm and rested it in someplace no pony would look, The Crystal Empire. But I knew it would be found, not by me but my other ponies.
"Hey, Lyra. Time to eat," Widow gazed at the destruction I created, "Huh, you've got skill but remember: You are supposed to be hidden. Only use this skill to face off hordes of guards, bandits and what have you. You'll need to learn how to assassinate properly. Meet with Dusk Night tomorrow, alright?"
"Yea, sure," I returned to my normal state, "What's for dinner?"
"Supreme Dandelion Salad."
In an instant, I bolted out of the room to the dining area.
"Great food, Widow, I haven't had dinner like that in a while." I made my way to the exit until somepony stopped me.
"No, not out there," I turned back to see Dusk Night, "You are to rest here but precisely, you'll be accompanied with Spring in her room and, uh, watch out for her belongings - they're sharp and if you hear anything mysterious, alert us."
"Uh, okay, I guess. I mean, I have a home but-" He cut me off.
"No, we cannot allow you to go back home. I know it may seem wrong but we cannot chance a detection of the guild. It's also pretty dark out and we need you to be up and early to be trained. You do want those deceivers gone, correct?"
"Yes, but I just want them to tell the truth. They know humans are real but they don't want to admit it to the public, so I've decided to tell the crowd by force and if not, I'd kill them."
"Then you have the right to assassinate them - now go rest with Spring, you need to begin training early."
"Alright then. Thanks again." I tailed Spring to her room, revealing shiny, sharp weapons on a rack next to her hay bed, her robe resting on the ceiling, parchment paper on her desk accompanied with a few quills and ink and finally, a small lantern creating an eerie atmosphere.
"Your bed is on the right corner, have a good rest, Lyra." Spring wished for me, heading out.
"Hold on, aren't you going to sleep as well?" I asked in worry, "We have training tomorrow morning."
"I know, I just have a contract to do, and tonight's the best and only time to do it."
"Really? How so?" I inquired in interest.
"I have to assassinate a commanding royal guard for two reasons; framed to keep her job and to up her rank. She plans to lie to the soldiers about capturing a town for Princess Celestia, conquering them and slowly building up a revolution against the Canterlot Defence Force and the Princesses themselves. I will be seeing her in a meeting with the royal guards." She explained, Lyra in awe.
"Woah, alright. Hefty. You go do your contract, and hopefully you get out safely."
"I wish the same. I bid thee farewell, Lyra Heartstrings. May our guild guide me."
A few hours had passed and my rest was not disturbed until, "Come on, we have to do this silently damn it, do you want us compromised?" Whispers echoed outside our room.
Spring Bloom wasn't here yet and the voice didn't sound like anyone from our guild, and they didn't want to be discovered. Something wasn't right. I made silent haste for my hidden knife and blade, snatching them with ease and making for the door. I rested my head on the door, attempting to eavesdrop on their doings and I got something. They were planning to place something in the potions room - perhaps a trap, diversion or maybe a malfunction on a mixture. Whatever it was, I had to stop it, however, the other's voice seemed hesitant. No matter, I had to follow Dusk's orders and keep the guild hidden.
Instantly I broke open the door, slashing at a caped stallion, cutting his robe open revealing a few bottles. Swiftly I struck at his partner - a mare wearing a cowl - marking blood and dropping a sack of powder. This powder spilled in the air, blinding my vision. I heard rapid hoofsteps and I had an idea where they were headed - the potion room. Memorising, I made haste to the potion room, however, finding nopony there. I was about to lose them until the trotting continued and a blood trail was in my view. I dashed immediately, tailing them with the mare's blood.
The trail led me to the lobby - where the exit was. I tossed my blade, hitting the mare's hind leg, immobilising her. I rushed towards the escaping stallion and pinned him towards the wall, "State your business!" I yelled out, in hope alerting my guild-mates.
"None of your business, assassin." He reached for his shoulder (with his teeth) to take a dagger. Swiftly, I stabbed his forehoof, making him groan in pain.
"State your business!" I ordered again.
"Never, you little-"
I cut him off, literally, with my hidden knife, spilling blood everywhere - on my face, newly sewn robes and staining the floorboards. I turned to the whimpering mare on the floor, blade still stuck on her hind leg.
"What were you doing here?" I asked her calmly. Knowing she was in pain, I didn't want to torment her anymore. She had realised her mistake.
"He lied to me," She teared and sniffled softly, "He told me that we were going on a ghost expedition, but halfway through he told me he had a deadly mixture in a bottle to kill you. I didn't know about this guild - I just want to be set free now. I won't bother you again, just please let me go."
"Well he's gone now so he won't deceive you anymore. I'm sorry for your loss and your wounds. I will tend to you now." I offered.
"No!"
"It's fine, it's fine," I attempted to calm her, "I didn't know that you were merely a puppet of his show."
Suddenly, Dusk Night burst into the scene, "I heard from Owlowiscious that you were in trouble, what happened?" He stared around at the mess I made, "What happened?"
"That stallion was going to kill us with a deadly poison and this pony was a pawn of his works. She meant no harm. On instinct, I attacked her and now she's severely wounded - I need help, please."
"Yes, sure, of course. Hold on, let me..." He flipped open the stallion's robe, revealing a pendant - a red eye, "White robes, eye pendant - This no doubt is the work of the Overseer Society."
"Who are they?" I asked.
"They're none other than our greatest rivals. There are more of them then us but when they spread word about us, none believe because of their past - They actually used to be news reporters. After the public and even the princesses disagreed, they set out for a 'quest' to end our guild. Now, they lie about us which is why they are our greatest enemy. We strive for honesty - This is why we kill deceivers that lie for their own gain."
"Everypony'll find out about our guild sooner or later, especially if the royal guard search all the houses in Canterlot. We'll be exposed and will be forced to hide. We'll have to get rid of them immediately."
"We're trying - there's just so many of them, and we're doing so as to not compromise the guild."
"Well you're doing a good job. Now, will you please?" I gestured at the slowly dying mare in my forelegs.
"Oh right, sorry."
The sun emerged from the horizon and all the guild members were back in the cottage. The dead stallion of the Overseer Society was still lying on the wall, blood still everywhere. Spring had been cleansing my work for the past hour and I felt bad, but she told me not to - somepony had to do it. The mare, however, was looking fine and dandy as she was back on her hooves in the morning. Good thing we had a potion master who could brew a potion, but obviously we waited for the potion to mix.
"Are you alright, Sugar?" I asked, in worry.
"Yea, I guess, Lyra. Thanks for everything, everypony, but I kind of don't want to leave yet."
"Why not? I mean, you're great company and all but why not?" Widow questioned.
"I probably know what you'll say but," She paused before she hesitated, "I want to join your guild."
Silence was present in the room for a good two minutes until I spoke up, "Dusk, I'd really think she'd be good for our guild. We need all the ponies we could get and you trained me in a couple of days."
"First off, Lyra, we didn't train you. We merely observed you and your passion of vengeance against those scientists wanted you to hack and slash at the sacks. You were just common folk - same as her," Dusk gestured at Sugar Shine, "What is her story - why does she want to join?"
Instantly, she spoke up, "Like you said, you want to get rid of the Overseer Society and you need all you need. I'm wanting to join because of my recent betrayal from them. I'm ready to kill those in their name."
"Well, I see a good reason for her to join." Spring Bloom entered the room, completed cleaning.
"I can't disagree either, Dusk," Dusty responded, "She's got a pretty good argument."
"Alright, fine. I don't mind if another one of common folk join, just make sure she gets some skills and knowledge before handling a contract. For now, you must train and do the chores around our cottage. That hard?"
"No, sir."
"Call me Dusk Night, Sugar Shine."
"Thank you, Dusk Night."
I sighed in defeat. Shortly after a divine lunch, I lead her to Dusty to collect her weaponry, the same I received, and made our way to the training room - still scattered about with powder and torn sacks. This reminded me of last night.
"Hey," I began, "What was in that sack you dropped?"
"Flour from my home." She responded, not knowing why I needed such information.
"Why do you carry flour around?"
"I was on the way to a bakery to drop off some flour until he came along and asked me join him on an 'adventure'. I see where that took him."
"Well anyways, I think we can make a 'smoke-bomb' with that. We can craft them, either throw it at ponies or on the ground, to make a quick escape. Huh, thanks for the idea, Sugar."
"Haha, don't mention it." She waved off a hoof.
"Well, go ahead and slash at the sacks. Show me what you can do." I gestured.
Immediately, she slashed at the sacks at fast pace, no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Like me, she instinctively used the hidden knife at one of the test dummies and began slashing with that - a new technique. In a few minutes, she turned back to her blade and swinging at the dummies again before she bucked after knocking a dummy over, hitting the wall. This mare had some skill.
"What was that?" Dusk yelled out.
"It's Sugar, training!" I shouted back, hearing hoofsteps near the training room.
It had turned out to be Widow, not Dusk, "I'm pretty sure you can train yourself, as well. Show her a few of your moves too."
In an instant, I joined in on the fun, hacking at the sacks as enthusiastic as her. As hours past, we came up with some double-teamed moves we could use against large groups. First, we held each other tight and spun one around, knocking over and spilling a lot of contents from the bags. Second, we threw each other at the dummies to take them down with force - we even tried to do this at the supports on the ceiling. I threw her at one of the dummies and she forced it downwards. Finally, we wanted to try a new gadget.
After training, we decided to create 'powder-bombs' as a new gadget to use. It just needed simple craft as well. Although, not a weapon, we'd use it to assassinate in the mist, blind and even grant an escape method. Dusty agreed with the idea and he decided to create a prototype.
A full year and some weeks have passed ever since Sugar and I have joined the guild. I have learnt how to be patient, learnt new methods of movement and attack - thanks to the powder-bombs and Sugar Shine, and I have been educated of how to sneak up to my opponent or opponents. With the production of powder-bombs, came another idea - double hidden knifes for both hooves and for more silent kills. I still haven't left the cottage ever since, but only to go outside and buy groceries in my usual appearance (without my robe and weapons).
I have also been granted a new title, 'The Spells Master', as for creating a new spell by combining other existing ones. Even the legendary Starswirl the Bearded didn't have any combined spells recorded. By combining, I have created a 'Frost Mist' spell, useful for immobilising opponents and blinding them like they're in a blizzard. Another spell I have discovered is 'Clone', a circle of clones to confuse opponents to strike at those that are fake, and a way to assassinate from any direction, even from above.
Unfortunately, I have yet to discover spells that deal damage but Dusk says to not develop them as they could show signs of our guild. I trusted his word and my spells were only made for confusion and hiding.
Waiting had never been a problem for the past weeks, but this time, everything was about to go rotten.
"Lyra, you have been assigned to scope out the scientists. We've been informed by Spring that the scientists, you plan to assassinate, are having a meeting on 78 Grove Road. Don't be seen by anypony and try to find out what they plan - maybe to deceive the public again." Dusk ordered and I gladly accepted.
On the cottage's slanted rooftop, I awaited on my rump until Luna's post was clear. This was when I made my move.
I hid my face with a cowl and I leaped for a rooftop, towards the scientists' position. I hopped and dashed furiously but carefully as to not wake or alarm any ponies. I scanned the tops of buildings to find something - an owl.
I stared at the moon's direction, nothing. At the castle, nothing. Before I could even look right, I was tagged by Owlowiscious hovering above me. He gestured at the moon - signalling my destination.
I nodded in thanks and I sped off with Owlowiscious as my aerial scout and navigator. Taking consistent glances at my trusty companion, he showed me where to go. This was until he stopped and hovered over a building with an observatory-like top. There it was.
Swiftly, I made my way towards the building. The only obstacle was climbing. This building was higher than the common houses surrounding it and there were rarely any places you could hoist on to. My attempts at climbing were failing and I needed another way in - through a window.
The closest window was perfect - only two guards and stairs leading upwards. I smashed the window two floors below my designated area, alerting a guard. I grasped the window sill tightly until I felt the presence of the guard. Instantly, I stabbed the blade into him and I hopped in, tossing a sack at the other guard, pouncing onto him, piercing his neck.
Immediately, I was silenced to hear hoofsteps - nothing. I was good. Just another floor and then I can eavesdrop on the scientists. I was probably missing out on all the imperative information so I needed to be quick.
In haste, I made my way upstairs - throwing over a sack just as I reached the stairs. I heard three guards grunt in pain of the flour. I sped upstairs, forcing my long-blade into one, stabbing one with my hidden knife and throwing a dagger at the other impaling his eye.
I pulled out the dagger, spilling blood everywhere. It wasn't a terrifying sight but it was profoundly disgusting and messy. Before I tried to hear out for hoofsteps, I heard one of the fallen guards whispering.
"P-Please. End. Me," One of the guards said, the one with my long-blade, blood trickling down his wound and mouth, "And quick." He coughed, decorating me with more red.
"If you wish." I replied, heeding his request by stomping on his skull, bones cracking and his blood turning into a lake. At least he got what he wanted.
"What was that?" One of the scientists was alarmed.
Immediately, I hurried for a hiding place until I heard, "Nothing, just our guards dealing with those assassins - probably giving them a good stab or something."
I let out a breath of relief until I realised what he said.
They knew about us? How? This was something I needed to know.
I continued to eavesdrop on their conversation while disposing all the bodies, especially the broken skull.
They planned to get rid of me and my whole guild - they knew there were only five of us, but they didn't know where we were. Turns out one of the scientists will go to the market and gather a crowd to try and lure out the princesses. The other will go to Canterlot Castle and retrieve my mirror to the human dimension and the other will deceive the ponies that they found out humans are real. They're taking my theory, no, proof about humans for their own. They will tell the public on Canterlot's main stage that I will try to build up a human army to take over Equestria, in hope of being royal scientists for the Princesses. They'll use this rank to get close and murder the princesses. This is happening the next day. This is my time to strike - kill all at once. I had also taken a peek at what they looked like.
I had passed the information and their appearances to Dusk Night and he accepted to help out as well as my whole guild. Spring volunteered to scout out for the scientists near the market, Dusk and Dusty wanted to go to hide the market to act as the crowd, Widow decided to sneak into Canterlot Castle to protect the mirror and Sugar and I were under the stage were they planned to suggest their theories. We had also arranged for Owlowiscious to give word when to strike. I had also wanted to have a clone of me in the crowd to confuse the scientists.
Celestia's sun had rose to be ten in the morning - the time they were to gather the citizens of Canterlot.
"Hear thee, hear thee!" A scientist with a white coat appeared from the darkness, accompanied with another wearing the exact same clothing, "My colleague and I have made a terrifying but useful discovery!" He continued while Dusty and Dusk were mimicking the crowd.
"We have discovered that a pony named Lyra Heartstrings is using a portal to enslave an army of humans to rule over Equestria. We must stop her!" Resumed the scientist, while Spring hopped from roof-to-roof, in place for an assassination near the stage in case one escapes.
Dusk made his way to the left side of the stage to ensure no pony gets away and Dusty stayed at the back to be disguise by the crowd in case the scientists escape that way. Everypony was in place and the scientists reached the stage. One of them standing behind and the other in front of a lectern giving a speech, luring out the princesses as expected.
"We have evidence of this action, here! A mirror acting as a portal to the dimension!" He yelled, the portal being revealed. Widow's Peak was nowhere to be seen. Something had gone wrong.
"Thank you, brother." The scientist silently said. Brother?
"That's not all, ponies!" He continued, "She has also joined a guild to try and assassinate us! She could be among the crowd right now!" Ponies began murmuring anxiously.
"Yes! She's even right there!" He pointed to a clone of me, I summoned for the act, "Guards, kill her!"
And so they did, not realising it was a fake, "Now you are safe, Canterlot!"
That's when we heard it, a screech from Owlowiscious.
"Now!" I yelled to Sugar, cutting an opening under the two scientists, stabbing them in the process.
Startled, the first scientist fled by teleporting. We had no visual on him until another screech was heard from Owlowiscious. I stared up and found him gesturing near the air-docks, he was attempting to flee.
I yelled out to my guild, "He's headed for the air-docks! Stop him, we can't let him escape!"
My guild members nodded and bolted towards their destination. Dusk, Spring and I were on the rooftops, and Sugar and Dusty forced through the rampaging crowd. Owlowiscious was still in the sky navigating us where to go.
Everypony spotted him nearing the air-docks but before he could get on, a very bloody Widow's Peak tackled him and the airship left without him. I blade was held to his face and she waited until all of us had reached her.
"What happened, Widow?" I asked, still aware of our surroundings.
"The mirror had already been retrieved and I had been ambushed - they knew I was coming. I managed to escape though and I spotted our guild so I followed, sooner realising that we were tailing our target." She explained, still bleeding to death.
"Spring, help her out. I'll deal with the scientist." I ordered, Spring caring for Widow and our guild on-guard.
I unsheathed my hidden knife and placed it next to his neck, "You're done. Tell me what your intentions were."
He chortled, "I was merely a diversion. The real scientists are on the way to Manehattan. I did a good job, huh?"
"What in the- Tell me what they plan to do!" I demanded, the blade touching his skin.
"I don't know! All they told me was to be a distraction! What else do you want to know!? Just don't kill me!" He panicked.
"Why did you do this?"
"So you won't succeed. We will take over Equestria - just one step at a time." A sly grin appeared on his face.
"Very well," I sheathed my blade, "Dusty, kill him."
His pupils became the size of pulps, "Wait, what? I thought you said-"
I chuckled, "You said for me not to kill you, not anypony else."
"Smart-fla-" Before he could finish, his head was torn from his body, painting the pathway.
I removed his coat, revealing another pendant from the Overseer Society, "I thought so."
A battalion of guards rushed towards our position and we were trapped. Owlowiscious let out a cry, showing a way - dive from the air-docks.
"Follow me and show no fear!" Dusk yelled, heading for the air-docks, with everypony trailing behind him, "Jump, into the lake." He ordered.
Simultaneously, we all performed a swan dive into the lake past the air-docks. It wasn't far but it was the most frightening and best thing I've ever experienced.
We still had unfinished work to do.
"Woah," Bon Bon was in awe, "An assassin sounds really cool. Seems those historians were writing fakes - going to kill them too?"
"No, I don't feel like it - plus that past is behind me. We didn't even kill the scientists, the last I heard." I replied.
"Seriously? Well then, I think you and your guild can help me with something - I think we're both facing the same problem. The Overseer Society, eh? Better tell Corporal Button." Confusion struck my mind.
Bon Bon activated a secret switch revealing a young colt on a screen, Button Mash, "Corporal Button, I think we've found out who those white-robed ponies are."
Author's Note
Another week, another chapter.
Longer than my previous chapters I've written, I've tried to make these short books to have more story in them so readers don't sit for five minutes and wait another week for a chapter.
Also, please understand that I still prioritise school studies than writing books so I may be late of posting another chapter.
Thanks for understand and enjoy reading!
