The Sight Of A Blind Pony.
“Sonar, wake up.”
I slowly woke up to the call of my eldest sister, Limestone.
“Limestone, what time is it?” I asked groggily.
“It’s almost time to start work, Mom just made breakfast.” She informed.
I rubbed my eyes and stood up on my bed, feeling the cold wood under my feet. I stood up and walked in the direction of the door and bumped into a counter.
“Be careful Sonar, you just woke up, you still need to get familiar with the layout of the place.” Limestone warned, concern clear in her voice, “Here, take my hand.” She offers.
I look up, although nothing came to sight, and grabbed Limestone’s hand.
She gripped it tightly and slowly led me towards the door and out into the hallway where I was greeted by Marble Pie, the next youngest after me.
“Hey Sonar, you had a good night sleep?” She greeted me.
I turned to her and nodded, “It was better than expected.” I admitted.
I hear her giggle and feel her rap her arm around me, “Yeah, that’s what it usually feels like when we get a day off.” She commented as my two sisters helped me downstairs.
With every step down the stairs, I could feel the stairs of my sisters, watching my every move with every little detail. Although I couldn’t see them. At least not in the normal sense that is.
Once I got to the bottom of the stairs and planted my feet on the ground, I got an immediate map-out of the place. There was a two couches resting in the living room. A door to my left that led outside, an opening to the right of me that led to the dining room and the kitchen where three figures.
I was a little puzzled by the third pony standing there, in the opening. Usually there’s only me, Limestone, Marble, Dad, and Mom at the rock farm. So this third pony threw me off, just a little.
Until it hit me.
“Maud?” I questioned.
The pony nodded, telling me that it was Maud, “Your skills are dulling, it never took you that long to recognize me.” She criticized as she slowly walked over to us. Every single step I felt.
I looked at Maud as she stood in front of me.
“I chalk it up as you being away from home for too long.” I replied.
She chuckles and takes my hand, “Come on, Dad has an important announcement.” She says, pulling me to the dining hall where I take my seat, directly parallel to my Dad’s.
I felt Mom lean in and give me a kiss on the cheek, “You had a good night sleep?” She asked.
I nodded, “Yes mother.” I responded.
She pats my shoulder, “Good, because you’ll need it for today.” She advises before taking her seat right of Dad.
Not a minute later, Dad knocks on the table to get everyone’s attention, “I hate to tell you all that we got burglars hiding in our mines again.” He announces.
None of us gave a surprised reaction because we’re quite used to burglars trying to steal our minerals.
Dad didn’t waste anytime assigning tasks, “Maud, Marble, and Sonar, you three are responsible for scouting the area…” He began, “Sonar, you will use your sensory abilities to pinpoint their exact location.” He instructed I nodded, “You three will enter through the southern entrance while me, Limestone, and Cloudy will block the other three entrances so they can’t escape.” He finished, they all nodded.
So this is why mom said that I needed the good night.
After breakfast, we all got dressed and were outside. The moment I set foot outside of the house, I immediately get a scope of the rock farm, every vibration that was made by animals and rocks falling from their piles, I felt it all. Even with boots on.
I turned to Maud beside me and nodded, “Let’s get this done.” I said.
She nods and I turn to Marble who also nods. I nodded and we began walking towards the southern entrance to our mine.
Once I stepped inside the mine, I once again got an immediate map-out of the southern mine. And in this mine, I felt many vibrations, the vibration of footsteps, many footsteps.
I turned to my sisters and beckoned them to follow me. They nodded and we started walking in the direction the footsteps was generating.
An hour into the mine and I could tell Marble was feeling a little off, I could feel her heartbeat increasing.
“Marble, is something bothering you?” I asked.
“Mhm.” She responded.
“What’s bothering you specifically?” I asked, prying for more detail.
“It feels like the we’re walking in circles.” She clarifies, “It almost as if the rooms are closing and opening on each other.” She explains.
I nodded, “Maud, anything seem odd to you?” I asked.
“The rocks do seem to be moving.” She responded.
Hmmm. They must be using illusions, no matter, illusions are useless against me.
“Maud Marble, huddle closer to me, they’re using an illusion.” I demanded.
They both huddled behind me without a word. Good, now they have a lesser chance of getting ambushed.
Our search went pretty much uninterrupted, until I heard the thud of a body followed by Marble’s ear piercing shriek of terror.
“AAAAHHHHH!!!”
I turned to Marble to see her huddled over Maud.
“Marble, what happened?!” I asked her.
But she could not answer, she was too petrified. I could guess why. But Maud was not dead, I could tell, her heartbeat was still apparent.
“Marble, get up, she’s not dea-UNH!” My sentence was stopped short as I had to get up and pull out my sword to block an incoming right hand swing from a pony hiding in the shadows.
He recovered from his shock and continued to try and attack me, while I stayed in the same spot, blocking, dodging, and parrying every attack he threw at me.
He showed his growing frustration by continuously growling, “How’re you still standing?!” He asked.
I answered by throwing the lanturn I had in my hand at his face ignited his face on fire. I followed by cleanly slicing his head off.
His departure from the living world was followed by many more attacks attempted from his companions, I dodged and slashed the ponies that attacked me.
One tried a right side slash that I dodged, dropped my swords, and dug my hands in his chest, grabbed two ribs, and tore them out of his chest.
I felt his blood run down my arm as I turned around and stabbed the ribs in one of the thugs eyes before throwing him towards a female companion which they both fell.
I felt the mare’s head cave in once my foot made contact with it. I felt her skull, brains, and blood cover my leg.
I took my leg out her head and swung it against another criminal. The force was so powerful, that I felt his skull shatter to pieces and his blood splattered all over the floor and my leg.
One criminal tried to hit me with his sword, I dodged and brung my hand down and his head caved in and made way for my hand. His head split like a watermelon.
Now with those guys out of the way, I made my way towards Marble.
“Come on Marble, we need to get Maud out of here.” I commanded.
She looks at me, tears still in her eyes, and lets out another ear piercing shriek.
Blood flies as my hand was cut from catching the last criminal’s blade.
I sighed and stood up on my feet, I felt the burglars heart beat race.
“How the hell did you catch me, you didn’t even know I was coming?” He asked.
I turned my head towards him, eyes completely open. I hear him gasp in shock, “Y-y-you’re blind?” He questioned, “Then how?”
I responded by applying force to his hand, hearing every his hand snap in break in every way, “There is a reason we are called Earth Ponies…” I started, “We have a special connection to the earth, we can sense the vibrations of the earth to get a scope of the land around. But me, I have raised my skill to a degree where I can feel every move your muscle makes, every your heartbeat increase and decrease, I can scope out an entire mine.” I explained.
“But, that is not all Earth Ponies can do…” I trailed off, letting go of the blade and giving the stallion three solid punches to the gut, immobilizing him in pain, “We can also drain the raw magic from the earth itself, enhancing our already increased physical and magical strength.” I continued, “And this is the second strongest physical attack.” I opened my fist into a palm and thrust it against the criminals stomach.
“KASSEIKEN!” And the criminal was sent flying towards the wall.
I stood up straight and returned to Marble’s side, “C’mon Marble, that’s the last of them, the effects of the illusion will be in effect for 24 hours.” I informed.
She nods and picks Maud up from her left shoulder, and I follow with her right shoulder.
Once we had her stabilized, we began walking towards the southern exit where I felt the rest of our family’s presence, waiting for us.
On the way, I could tell Marble was shaken up from the fight I just had, “Sorry Marble, I guess I was a little too violent.” I apologized.
I feel her heartbeat lessen and she looked at me with a smile, “No, it’s okay, you were just protecting me.” She assured, “It’s me who should be apologizing, I just stood there hopeless.” She admitted.
I smiled and nodded, “I guess we both owe each other an apology.” I guessed.
She looks at me and starts chuckling, “I guess we do.” She agreed.
I only smiled, didn’t say anything afterwards as the silence spoke enough for the both of us.
