When Princess Twilight Sparkle became a Princess of Equestria, she started pushing for reforms that would've drastically altered everything that had been the way Equestria worked for millennia, thus costing various nobles their power and influence. It was for that very reason that someone hired five members of the Royal Guard to kill her in her sleep.

Unfortunately for the assassins, while the hit was successful, their escape was not, for they were quickly attacked by a man wearing tactical gear and a mask, both of which were comprised of an unknown material, and who was armed with enough weapons to outfit a squad of soldiers. Although this man had captured the assassins, he himself was captured not long afterwards and interrogated by Princesses Celestia and Luna themselves, who enlist his aid in hunting down and eliminating the Traditionalists responsible for ordering Twilight's death, in exchange the funds, supplies and resources he needs to complete his task. Quickly realizing that Twilight was like a daughter to Celestia and a sister to Luna, the man swears on his life that he'll hunt down those responsible for Twilight's murder and make them wish they'd never been born.
