//-------------------------------------------------------// The Life of a guard -by A_Pony_Name- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Day 1 //-------------------------------------------------------// Day 1 "NO" My mom yelled at whoever was at the door. "You know the law ma'am," the guard told her, walking into the house. I looked at the stallion and our eyes locked. He started to approach me, so I looked at my mother who just nodded. "Hello?" I said to him kindly, not knowing what law he was speaking of. "I must request you to come with me." He stated to me, then turned to walk away. I started following him but my mom stopped trying to give me a pendant. The guard quickly intercepted the gift, and it was thrown aside. "Why?" I asked him. "Follow me," he restated and started walking away yet again. My mother then grabbed me and told me to run. I was about to ask 'why' once again, when I felt a tugging sensation at my back hooves, the guard was pulling me. When I was out of my mothers grasp, she yelled,"My baby!" She started crying and was quickly comforted by my sister. I offered a weak wave but she couldn't seem to meet my eyes. I looked around and saw many other colts being led to the same place as me, at least thirty. For those of you who don't know, Equestrias gender population is not skewed one way or another. However, there is a mutation amongst the male population that gives us white fur and a blue mane. This mutation led to a new way of thinking, protection. One must understand that in the very DNA of a 'guard baby', that forces it to protect. This was taken advantage of by many rulers, but more frequently, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. After being taken away from my mother, I was led through town by the same guard that took me. I looked up to the big stallion that I was being led by and asked, "What's your name?" He grunted and said "55762," I looked at him funny and said, "that's a strange name." He looked at me and I caught a glimpse of a smile then continued walking. When we got to the center of town, what I saw I almost couldn't comprehend. Celestia, in all of her glory stood a few meters away from me. When I looked around, I saw similar looks of astonishment on all the colts faces, I even saw a few thestrals around me aswell. When I saw everyone getting in line, I followed my guard and took a place. Getting closer to Celestia, I looked over my shoulder to see all of the town crying. I saw my mother and her friends all bawling, so I waved and tried to say, "I'm okay." I however, was interrupted by a soothing voice saying, "its okay young colt." I turned around to see Celestia right in front of me. "P-p-princess," I said, taking a deep bow. She smiled, then gave me a number and pointed my off to the left. I saw other colts getting off to my right, and some following me. I then noticed we were being funneled into a train cabin. When on, I noticed a distinct lack of seating. When we all got on, I was being crammed in between two other colts. I was about to ask them to move when I noticed everypony was squished. I looked around me, beginning to develop a sweat from all the bodies around. I was never able to complain, the train car door closed and we got moving. I would like to say the heat stopped, but it only got worse. Four colts had passed out and we had only been moving for two hours. Many started crying over not being with families. Three hours in and eight colts passed out, everypony's tears and thoughts were interrupted by a static sound coming from the roof, so naturally, everypony looked up. It was princess Celestia. She looked at all of us from a screen on the roof. She then started talking in a very static voice, "Hello everypony, and wellcome aboard. You are getting ready to become guards." The princess was replaced by a drawing of a guardspony. "You will be being trained with a shield, short sword and a spear." She continued, gesturing to each one as she spoke. I looked down to crack my neck, but when I looked back up, the princess was no longer there. I let my eyes wander around for a while longer, but completely froze when I felt something under my hoof. I looked down and saw that the pony in front of me was taking a shit! I coughed and tried not to gag. When I looked at the stallion, he blushed and stammered out, "S-s-sorry." I just huffed in annoyance and backed up an inch, hitting the back wall. Another hour, and many colts went to sleep, still standing. Still feeling wide awake, I looked down at my number, completely oblivious to what it said until now. Written neatly on this small piece of paper, was the number 87408 I tried committing it to memory, but was interrupted by a screeching. I looked up to see everypony else stirring aswell. When completely stopped, the guards left the sweltering cabin and went outside. The open door created a breeze that was much welcomed. However it was interrupted by the guards yelling at us to get off of the train. I didn't have a problem with it, but heard a few groans from the colts that had been asleep. When we got off I noticed two things, we weren't at Canterlot. And there was a group of colts that looked just like the rest of us approaching the train. I stretched my legs and heard a few satisfying pops, making many colts flinch. Twenty minutes later and we were still outside and the group of colts was getting bigger. I wandered around to see if I could find anypony I knew, or somepony I could make a friend. I trotted up to a colt who wasn't in a group already and asked his name. He seemed to ponder on it for a while before admitting, "I-I don't know, I forgot." He then asked me, "what's yours?" I started to answer, "my name is..." I forgot. I forgot my name... "I d-don't know either." I answer, hanging my head low. "It's ok, I've asked a lot of other colts and they don't know either." He said, looking sad. "Is it what's on this paper?" I asked, curios. "It seems so," he said dryly, "I've got 87558 what do you have?" "87408" I responded, laying my head down. Before I could continue, we were ordered back onto the tight train. I managed to get a spot next to the other colt, 87558, but he didn't talk much. By now it was 8 P.M. and we were starved. We had been on the train for twelve hours and everypony was complaining about the food, or lack thereof. We came to a screeching halt yet again, but this time, instead of letting us out of the unholy heat, they just threw in a few loafs of bread and got speed back up. Being a smaller colt, I was unable to catch any, but my newfound friend, 87558, was a tad bit taller and shared the small amount that he got with me. And thus is the start of my new life.
