The First Reactions

Twilight cried. And cried. And cried some more. Spike didn't know what happened and he couldn't help her. Her best friends didn't understand, because Twilight couldn't bring herself to tell them. It was too sickening. She wished she'd had known. If Twilight knew maybe she could save Luna. Her head turned in disgust at her papers. All those months of hard work, wasted. She wasn't even showing gratitude to Spike, when he wouldn't ask her about it and make her breakfast, even when she yelled at him.

"I tried too hard," she whispered. "Way too hard."

The door opened.

"Darling, I know you're upset, but you've spent a week holing up in your room. Please just tell us why," begged Rarity, desperate to get some kind of reaction from one of her best friends.

"It's ok sugarcube, it'll be fine, you'll see."

Applejack. Trying her best to comfort.

"Ok, ok, I'll tell you. I owe you that."

"Thanks Twilight," said Fluttershy.

"You know when I went to Canterlot? To show Luna my plan?" she started. "Well, the door was open and I saw Celestia, so I waited patiently by the side of the door. And then Celestia started reading and- and..." Twilight broke down sobbing.

"Ye? Yes? Please tell us, Two we can't help you if you don't!" said RD.

"Take a deep breath darling, a deep breath," advised Rarity.

"Whoooo. Ok, Celestia started reading. And she was reading Luna's suicide note! And it revealed all sorts of secrets. And they're true, they are! I swear."

"What are they? What are they?" cried Pinkie Pie.

"Well, Luna lost her wing when she was three, she was born a Pegasus but later ascended to alicornhood, it was agony on the moon, so we can guess that Discord, Chrysalis and Sombra also had to bear this, Celestia turned ponies into stone for inadequate reasons, Luna freed many, though not all and Luna's dead," she said it in a matter of fact voice bit there were tears running down Twilight's cheeks fit to rival Niagara Falls.

The mane five started talking all at once, until Applejack yelled at them to stop.

"What should we do? Should we spread the secrets? Or should we just tell everyone Luna's dead?"

"Just inform ponies that their princess has died," said Fluttershy half-heartedly.

And that's what they did, they went round to each house telling ponies the news. At first ponies were worried it Princess Celestia so they started crying, but when they were told it was Luna suddenly all the children's faces crumpled in sadness, not worry on who would raise the sun.

Fluttershy was assigned to the task of telling Discord.

"Come on, Fluttershy, you're not one to joke about death," he said at their next tea party. He pulled the funniest death face, beyond comparable.

Fluttershy didn't laugh.

"It's true. Her funerals tomorrow."

Discord didn't reply. It was too much of a shock. He had spent month planning when and where and how and what to do when he eventually asked her out. He couldn't get mad at Luna, not when life was such a struggle. She didn't have friends the way he had. She couldn't act the way normal ponies acted. He doubted she could breath the way the other ponies breathed.

It was her fault.

Not Luna's, but Celestia's. What couldn't Celestia be a better sister to Luna? But then again, why hadn't Discord stepped in and made her feel better? Why had he just waited at the sideline? WHY DIDN'T HE HELP HER?? Discord felt a bad feeling that Luna's demise was his fault. All his fault. He was to blame for Luna's death.

No, of course it wasn't. He merely played a teensy weensy part in the matter. But it wasn't just a "matter". This was scary death. He didn't want to think about it. Be wondered how she'd killed herself. Probably in some crazy way, like jumping into a volcano.

"I just remembered. I have to go somewhere," he said shakily. "I'd best be going."

"Bye," said Fluttershy softly.

As soon as Discord was away from everpony safely in his home he started crying. It felt like hell. He wasn't sure if anypony really cared.

Discord decided to teleport to Twilight's library to grab a book and distract himself. It would be easier to pretend Luna didn't exist. This included not showing up at the funeral.
Twilight was crying when the door opened. She'd hardly done anything else.

"Hey Discord," she said lifelessly.

"Hi," he replied.

"Do you miss Luna too?" She asked unexpectedly.

"Yeah. Is Spike here?"

"No, he's at Applejack's."

"I thought he liked Rarity."

"Rarity likes Fancy Pants. Spike's a trooper. He didn't take it to heart."

"Good for him. What are those for?" Discord asked.

"Nothing," replied Twilight.

"They're not nothing. They're plans arent they," said Discord suspiciously.

"Yes, fine, they're procedures, expositions, explanations, narratives and recounts. They're plans for if I could convince Luna to live in Ponyville. I really want to be her friend, because, you know, she's awesome. I really need a book buddy," snapped Twilight.

"Ok, Ok, I get it. For your information, I had plans too."

"Like what?"

"Well, I wanted to ask her out," Discord replied looking embarrassed.

"Oh, OK. She would have said yes."

"Really?"

"Yeah, for sure."

"I hate Celestia."

"Me too. She was the one who should've helped Luna."

"Lets send her a 'its all your fault' note."

"We'll show her up for the monster she is."

Twilight stood up, walked over to Discord and sat down beside him.

"You know what I think? I think that you're the only pony who understands. Who actually cared about Luna, the real her."

"Same here," Twilight confided.

"Could we do time-travel?"

"No we'd end up in a very messy time loop."

"Thats frustrating," said Discord, frustrated.

"Ponies are going to keep telling us to move on."

"I know."

"I'm not going to listen. I spent over four years working on this. I'm going to shod her this plan of its the last thing I do," yelled Twilight, her voice getting shakier and shakier.

"Wait, wait, wait. You can't do that. What about your best friends? What about everyone in Ponyville? What about your family?" Asked Discord.

"Strikes me funny how you mentioned my family last," but as soon as Twilight said this, she burst out crying.

Her crying set Discord off too.

After a few minutes of painful grieving, they shut up.

"I should be going now it's..."

"Wait, I could swear it was the 21st, not the 20," said Twilight a little tearfully.

"Luna's still alive."

"She is," agreed Twilight. "I know this spell! You will only remember that Lunas in the woods and needs help. I will only remember that I will have guests over."

"Ok, I'm going! Yes, I can ask Luna out. She can move to Ponyville! Everything's going to end happily ever after!"

It was.
